Freedom of the Seas Cruise Review by Eriksgarden
- Sail Date: April 2013
- Destination: Eastern Caribbean
- Cabin Type: Superior Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony
This cruise was PERFECT in all respects!
A few highlights:
The ship is gorgeous and well-kept. My only complaint is that the windows could have been cleaner. Seriously, that is all I can say. Our cabin, the public areas, restaurants, the Promenade...Everything appeared like New. And I get paid for having an eye for detail!
Service was great, especially in the Main Dining Room, Chops Grill, Portofinos, and Johnny Rockets. My partner says the best steak anywhere is at Chops Grill on an RCI ship. Specialty Dining is worth every penny extra! We ate at Chops two nights and Portofino once. Both were outstanding!
The shows were excellent! RCI is top-notch when it comes to entertainment. We pre-booked all shows online, but they only checked tickets for the ice show. The headliner was some hokey ABBA band, but even that was good.
The Main Pool gets busy on Sea Days, so get there early. We had no problem getting a table and adjoining lounges at 10ish.
The ship stopped at CocoCay, St. Thomas, and St. Maarten. The shopping area at CocoCay has grown alot since we were last there in 2005. We went Parasailing and LOVED it. Anyone can do this and it does not require strength to do. On St. Thomas, we took the cablecar to Paradise Point. It is under construction up there and dumpy, but the view is awesome. They have OK burgers and Bushwackers. Again, it is dumpy, but do it anyway. On St. Maarten, we took a cab to Marigot on the French side ($8 per person each way). There is a cute open market by the water. Buy spices from the Spice Lady, then enjoy drinking a fresh coconut, then go back to Philipsburg. Walk around, swim, and eat (avoid the little place on the beach...Waited an hour for a burger. Good thing we were on vacation! :-D).
Fellow passengers were super nice!
Enjoy Freedom of the Seas!

The buffet was disorganized and not good. People did not know where to line up and hot dog buns were hard as a rock. Beach BBQ? Blech!
We went parasailing. This was phenomenal. The people who run it are awesome!

St. MaartenWe took a cab to Marigot on the French side ($8 per person each way). There is a cute open market there and a lady who sells spices (best souvenirs we found anywhere!). After a short walk around, we headed back to Philipsburg.View All 4,132 St. Maarten Cruise Port Reviews
The street/boardwalk/beach in Philipsburg is amazing. Loved it!

We took the cablecar to Paradise Point. They are undergoing construction and it is very dumpy there. Had a decent burger (no other menu options other than a fish sandwich). Despite it, it was worth it for the view.
