Easter Cruise on NCL Spirit

Sail Date: March 2013
Destination: Canary Islands
Embarkation: Barcelona
We haven't been on NCL for a few years so we were hoping NCL would still be as we remembered - freestyle cruising with good activities and facilities on board.

NSC Spirit is a one off ship and she is very nice. The atrium was airy and nice. The glass elevators provided views, showing off the decor. The ship seemed in good standard, very clean and tidy.

We were on deck ten aft, which was perfect for us. Two decks up for buffet and two floor down to Charlie's for quizzes. The entertainment crew were good, Hector, Anastatia and Oly. They did a very funny Mr and Missus show in Galaxy of the Stars.

The entertainment on board was good, particularly the comedian/juggler.

And as with all cruises, food is the hot topic. We dined in Shogun's once and enjoyed our meal very much. To be honest, with the quality and selection in Raffles- we didn't' need to formal dining.
We didn't use the Blue Lagoon, seating is a smaller than on previous ships we sailed on More with NCL.

We didn't have any issue with the dread Norvo virus and there where not precautions taken whilst on the cruise. There was a lovely lady outside Raffles, reminding everyone to "Washy Washy".

We booked a balcony cabin and it was lovely. Francis was very attentive to our needs and daily surprise towel animals were found returning after dinner. The balcony had been said to be small however we did enjoy using it a few times during our cruise.

Crew - Captain Lars daily update had my Mother-in-Law in stitches and he is very nice in person.
Armando Da Silva, hotel director, was very nice and made our holiday a joy as well.
Bruno was also very helpful in arranging our Cruise Critic event on board.

We had a bit of a bumpy ride down to the Canaries however this is not anyone fault. The ship is mid ship and this sea can be rough. We were fine however others did find the motion a bit too much.
Once the Spirit is changing the itinerary to be based in the Med, I am sure there will be no issues.

Would we sail NCL again - YES.
I would recommend this to anyone that wants a cruise without formality, families are well catered for as well. Less

Port and Shore Excursions

THIS IS FOR MALAGA - not on the list of ports We loved Malaga - took the shuttle to be dropped near the centre and walked to the Roman fort then up to the castle at the top. You can see the bull ring and all of Malaga from this point. Cathedral was very impressive as well. This was our surprise of the cruise as we have flown into Malaga but never looked around.

We took the free shuttle to the centre and walked around the Promenade. Visited a fort on the sea front as well before heading back.

We have been to Funchal before, for those that have not the basket ride is a must. It is about a 20-30 minute walk from dock to Cable Car. We did a combo that included Monte, Botanical Gardens and cable car.

Didn't leave the ship as we have been around the island before. Shuttle bus was only for disabled at this port.
