Carnival Sensation

Sail Date: February 2013
Destination: Bahamas
Embarkation: Port Canaveral (Orlando)
We have been on numerous cruises with Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and Princess over the years. The atmosphere on the Sensation was very good and reminds you of what cruising on Carnival is all about.
The food was good on this ship. We ate in the main dining room for dinner, and utilized the buffet, rotisserie, and grill for breakfast and lunch. We never had much of a line, if at all, and had numerous selections to choose from.
Service was very good and personalized. Our cabin steward knew our names the first day, and greeted us every day by our names. We had the any-time dining. The waiters in the main dining room always greeted you by your names.
If you attend the shopping lecture, sit up front as various goodies are thrown out to the audience.
There were lots of on-board activities that were free including dance classes, trivia, mask decorating, etc.
The entertainment shows at night were very enjoyable. The comedy club had some good comedians as well.
For an More older ship, it was very well maintained and clean.
Embarkation and Debarkation were very smooth and well organized.
The entire crew seemed to be very engaged in what they are doing and seem like they are enjoying what they do as well. They were very professional and functioned as a team. They were also able to engage the guests.
We had booked a guarantee inside room and ended up getting a handicap accessible room. Whenever you took a shower, the entire bathroom would get flooded, in spite of how many towels you put down to dam the water. A better divider between shower and bathroom is needed. Less

Cabin review: 4A Interior

nice location, downside was bathroom as there wasn't any way to dam the water and each time you took a shower, the entire bathroom flooded. The second person always waded in water to take shower.

At the cruise port, there are a few shops, Senor Frogs, and a small straw market. We took a taxi outside of Senor Frogs to the Port Lucayan Marketplace for $10/person round trip (payable at the drop-off location, ticket given for the return trip). The taxi dropped us off in front of the Treasure Cove Casino across from the Marketplace. At the marketplace, there are numerous shops and 2 straw markets at each end. Prices at the straw market are negotiable. You can also visit a nice public beach which is a short walk from the Marketplace. With the Marketplace to your back, cross the street and turn right. Continue walking and just past the Police Station, turn left to access the beach. There is a sign stating "beach access".

We walked to Fort Charlotte from the cruise terminal. The walk was around 1 mile. There are fantastic views of the cruise port and surrounding areas from the top of Fort Charlotte (whether you go in or not). The entrance fees are $5 for Adults and $3 for seniors. Shopping is within walking distance of the cruise terminal. In previous visits, we walked easily to the Queen steps and Fort Fincastle, Parliament, and the Governor's Place from the cruise terminal. After 5 PM, the Digs at Atlantis are free to the public. A taxi from the cruise terminal to Atlantis costs $4/person (groups of 4 or more, $11 for 2 people) and drops you off outside the lobby of Atlantis. Enter the lobby and walk straight and go down steps to enter the aquariums and the Digs. The aquariums and the Digs are impressive. You can also walk around the grounds outside. You will probably want to visit the Shark aquarium first as this closes at dusk. The taxi back to the cruise terminal is also $4/person (groups of 4 or more). We shared a taxi both ways to get the $4/person price.
