4 Day Cruise
We arrived at LAX at 8:50am from Phoenix. Since this was a four day cruise we only had a single piece of luggage plus a 2 backpacks.
We decided to get to the ship using public transit. Took the shuttle from the airport terminal to the green line rail station then transferred to the Long Beach train and then the free shuttle from Long Beach transit mall to the Queen Mary. We arrived at the Carnival check in around 11 am. Total cost for 2 seniors $3.00 total. We each had to buy a tap card to load the fares on so that was $2.00 of the fare. Fifty cents each for the light-rail.
This cruise did not have the Faster To Fun package available. We checked in to the Platinum counter and then had to wail until the Coast Guard had finished their inspection before we could board the ship. The ship was cleared for boarding around 11:45am. We were escorted to the main building where we went thou security and were on the ship with 5 minutes.
The rooms were not ready until 12:30, so we had lunch. Our luggage did not arrive at our room for several hours. Not too sure of the reason as we were told by the porter that it would be one of the first to go on. One bag $2 tip, that may have been why.
We had an inside cabin on E deck (7) forward. Our room was under the Paris Showroom. Never had a problem with noise. The room did not have a refrigerator or hair dryer, lots of space for clothing and a nice sized bathroom and shower. The room was cold even with the vent turned down all the way. At night the bedding did keep you warm but during the day if you stayed any time at all in the room you were wearing a jacket or looking for a blanket.
We ate all dinners in the main dining room. We had 8:15 seating. Had requested early and were wait-listed. I did not try to change it. All the evening meals were pretty good and everyone at our table of 8 seemed to enjoy what they ordered. A bar waiter was there to take your bar orders and kept checking for refills.
Breakfast and lunch we stayed with the Lido buffet, deli and burger grill. No complaints with the food or service. Tables were kept clean. The buffet area did have a bar in the back which made it nice to order beer or sodas with you meal.
The ship was clean and showed no signs of bad wear and tear. The photo dept people a tad aggressive in trying to get you to stop and take your picture. We must have been stopped 3 or 4 times walking the inside of the ship each evening.
The atrium looked good at night with its lighting. The casino had plenty of slots and table games to choose from, but was a little smokey.
I did not see much chair hogging even during our one sea day.
Waiter,s both bar and dinning were very friendly and provided excellent service. Our room steward, Ronny, was also very good. Everyone took the time to say hello and smiled whenever they walked by.
We were tag number 1 for disembarkation. Our meeting place was the Paris lounge. They told us to be there by 8:30 and we were off and had our luggage by 9am. Self Assist started to leave around 7:45am.
All in all we had a very good time and will do this cruise again.
