Freedom of the Seas Grand Suite

Sail Date: February 2013
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Port Canaveral (Orlando)
We just returned from a week on Freedom of the Seas. We have previously sailed on Windstar Cruise, pre children, Disney Dream, Disney Magic and Celebrity. Because we had such a great experience with Disney we felt RCI had a lot to live up to.

We booked a Grand Suite on the 10th floor because we came across a great deal and well, we wanted the extra amenities. To us, it was worth it. The size of the room/bathroom for a family of five is fabulous. Our concierge, Bertie, was very helpful and super friendly. Our stateroom attendant Brian was awesome.

Our kids did enjoy Adventure Ocean but our oldest did not like that there was only one activity happening at at time. On Disney ships multiple activities take place at once so if you are not interested in one thing, there is always something else. We did have one problem there and it was with another child who was bullying some of the kids. It is in our opinion that the situation was not handled properly. More

Food: We ate in the Windjammer/Jade every evening, skipping out on the dining room simply because we liked being able to choose from a variety of things. The food was overall pretty good, but in no way, compares to that on Disney. Like others have said, the soda package and bottle are a bit of a hassle. It is bulky and when you have to lug them around it does become a nuisance. Perhaps they should just charge more and let everyone have access to non-alcoholic drinks. These types of beverages after all, are the cheapest expense.

Entertainment: We enjoyed all of the shows on the ship. If you can see them, go. Nothing disappointed.

Casino: small and smoky. If you smoke, then you will like it. We are non-smokers and I can smell a cigarette when someone is smoking in the car in front of me. I CAN'T STAND IT! They had one night of non-smoking and someone was still smoking. But, beyond that, the smell is there.

Ports of call: We had been to Grand Cayman before. We do not like it there. Very commercialized and super expensive. Probably the least favorite stop. Though seven mile beach is beautiful.

Labadee, Haiti....very hot!! But, I loved it. The cabanas which are for rent are worth it. The beach we were on was a bit rocky so if you have water shoes, bring them. My husband wanted to zip-line that day but it was too windy. So, be prepared for that.

Falmouth, Jamaica: RC has done a very nice job with port. But, stay inside the gates unless you are on a guided excursion. We walked out of the gates to find a grocery store. It was a bit intimidating. Not sure it was the smartest thing to do. But, we found what we needed and headed back. We did meet a very nice gentleman along the way.

Cozumel: Well, having been there before, we loved it. They seemed to have cleaned it up a bit from last year. We found a great restaurant. The food was awesome and our waiter was very nice. We will be back.

Overall, the trip was great and we will sail with RC again. Less
