We had vouchers that had to be used by Oct. so reluctantly I booked another cruise on Royal Caribbean, which I said I would not do again after we went to the Baltics on Jewel of the Sea. This was our 50th wedding anniv. and my husband's 70th birthday.

When I walked into our cabin it looked like cannon balls had dropped on our mattresses. They were deplorable, sunken, all worn out. There is NO reason why those mattresses should not have been changed out a year or TWO ago, they were that bad. (looking in cabins near us I saw the same thing--- mattresses that had caved). The drawers in the vanity had leftover hair and debris from the last occupants and there was a pink streak running down the cream colored bathroom door. (It seems they never change the bedspreads because they were not fresh or stain free.) I was totally grumpy the whole first day. Our cabin steward said there were no new mattresses but he could put old ones on top of ours. He did clean the drawers so I could unpack and clean the stain off the door, which proves he never touched either. The double decker old mattresses on our beds proved just as unsatisfactory since I woke up with my shoulders, neck and hips hurting.

I was totally grumpy the 2nd day and did not know how I could cope 7 more without a comfortable sleep. It seems there was an unused convention center near the ice rink that we saw filled with new mattresses (and the old ones!!!) Yes, we did get new mattresses but after being very aggressive. So was the beginning, albeit 3 days late, for a very very nice cruise.
