Vancouver BC
My partner and I flew from Chicago to Vancouver, B.C. with American Airlines using frequent flyer miles. We arrived in Vancouver early on Thursday August 21, 2003, and checked into our hotel the St Regis. This hotel was booked through Expedia.com, as was our cruise. It was basic but clean and centrally located. We spent all day Thursday exploring Vancouver, though most of the afternoon was spent on Granville Island, which is reachable from downtown via a bridge using the # 50 bus, $2 Canadian each way. There are lots of art galleries, a brewery, a produce/ fish market, restaurants and a marina. This place is well worth a visit if you are spending any time in Van City. On our return from the cruise we spent a further two nights in Vancouver
Vancouver is a beautiful city: clean and scenic, with friendly and helpful natives. We were blessed with very fine weather, sunny and in the high 70's, unusual for Vancouver to have San Diego weather! In addition to Granville island, we rented bikes and explored Stanley Park, we also toured the Gastown district and on our final day we rented a car and drove the "sea to sky" highway to the ski resort of Whistler. In Vancouver we dined at two quality restaurants: the Pacific Culinary Institute on Granville Island and the Kettle of Fish on Pacific near Howe. Both very worthwhile, especially of you enjoy fresh seafood.
