  3. Coral Princess
This was our 4th cruise and our 3rd with Princess. Overall, this cruise was wonderful. Our most memorable cruise by far has been Alaska on the Dawn Princess. We flew down to Ft. Lauderdale the night before and stayed at Hampton Inn Airport North. We never travel on the embarkation day. We can sleep in a little and enjoy the complementary breakfast, take it easy till time to head to the port. We arrived at Port Everglades a little after 11am and had to wait for the embarkation to start. When they opened the lines at about 11:45, we headed for the Caribe Deck Express check in. We were on the boat at noon. Embarkation process was super. However, we're very familiar with the process and had our cruise tickets, passports and credit card ready. Once on board we went straight to our balcony stateroom on deck 10. Those that cruise should become very familiar with the deck layout well in advance. That way you won't need help finding your room We placed our carry on bags in our room and headed for the buffet lunch. After lunch we walked the entire ship to become familiar with its layout. The Coral Princess is a beautiful ship. Very spacious inside and well decorated. This is our favorite ship so far. The stateroom is typical for Princess. Our only complaint would be the size of the shower stall. Everything else is just fine. The public spaces are wonderful. Lots of seating and very comfortable. The Universe Lounge at the back of the ship is fantastic. A great high tech theater for shows, dances, games, etc.. The main public corridors are beautiful and enjoyable just to walk through. We did not attend either of the specialty dining places but they were very beautiful. The Explorer's and Wheelhouse lounges were nice places for music and dancing. Our only complaint with the ship was the bar at the entrance to the Explorer's Lounge. There's smoking at the bar and the you have to walk right by the bar to enter the lounge. The main public corridor also passes right by the bar, and you have to walk through a cloud of smoke to either enter the lounge or pass by the lounge. Poor planning on the designers part. Possibly a heady duty air filter right above the bar would help. On the deck the Lido pool area was great. Usually plenty of lounge chairs. However, it will be busy on sea days. Next door there's the Lotus pool for adults only. Great place to get away from kids, wind or intense heat. There's a retractable ceiling that can be closed during bad weather. Very well decorated and the pool water is heated. Great place to relax and catch some Z's. The Horizon court buffet is toward the front of the ship which is great for looking out the front of the ship while you're eating. We were a little surprised at the cost of a soft drink pass. $39.50 plus 15% gratuity for the 10 night cruise. We passed on the soft drink pass. It was much less on a 7 night cruise. You have to drink a lot of Coke to pay for that. Our suggestion to Princess has been to offer another beverage other than tea and water like Carnival and RC. Something like lemonade or fruit punch. The other suggestion we've made to Princess was to extend either free or discounted soft drink passes to Circle members. That would be a great perk to repeat customers. In Jamaica, we did the Dunn's River Falls and Dolphin's Cover excursion. Climbing up the falls was great. However, once you start you can get off till you're about half way up the falls. Keep that in mind in case you're not sure. Dolphin's cove was a disappointment. We stayed there all of 30 minutes before heading back. The Panama Canal experience was beyond words. A must do cruise! Once in the lake, we got off and did the Panama Railway excursion to the Pacific side. A great trip and I highly recommend it. Costa Rica was a beautiful country. We did the Country side-eco trip. A bus ride through the country, a boat ride on the canal in the rain forest, and a train ride also through the country and a banana plantation. We saw howler monkey's from the train which was a highlight. This too was a great excursion. Wonderful guides on both. Grand Cayman was good too. A more modern place to visit. The water is great for snorkeling. We did not do any excursions in Costa Maya. The water is beautiful there. The activities on board were your usual stuff but fun if you participated. Stay up for the champagne waterfall on the second formal night. Its a lot of fun. The entertainment was very good. One of the highlights was a woman named Clair Gobin (?) from the UK, who played the violin. Absolutely fabulous! A comedian named Sarge was hilarious. The Princess singers and dancers did a wonderful job too. Service on board was wonderful. Our waiter in the Provence dining room at night was terrific. His name was Joseph and he did a great job taking care of us. We got to know a few of the bar stewards and they were all very pleasant and courteous. Disembarkation was easy. We didn't have to hurry and got off the ship within 10 minutes of the published time. Overall, this was a fantastic cruise on a beautiful ship. We had a great time once again on Princess.
