Splendour of the Seas Cruise Review by KNEL23
- Sail Date: January 2006
- Destination: Western Caribbean
- Cabin Type: Superior Ocean View Stateroom with Balcony
Embarkation was a breeze. We arrived about 1 pm and only spent a short time on line before we boarded. Our balcony stateroom was quite roomy with enough space for all our things. Our cabin attendant Jose was quite attentive and did a great job. Meals in the dining room were all great. Our waiter did a fine job of recommending particular dishes and we were never disappointed with these choices. Food in the Windjammer Cafe is typical buffet style fare - nothing exciting but adequate when you are in a hurry or just want to be more casual. The midnight buffet was worth staying up for -- even if just to see the display. They served shrimp, caviar, decadent desserts and pastries, etc. Shows in the evening were fine -- not Broadway caliber but entertaining. During the day there was always something to do (cooking class, bingo, poolside games, etc.)
The ship is 10 years old so there are signs of age, but nothing that detracted from the experience. The center atrium and general layout of the ship is beautiful. Easy to find your way around.
Cozumel was our only port and it was disappointing. It still shows signs of devastation from Hurricane Wilma and it will be a while before the lush tropical foliage is back to where it should be. We didn't have great weather during the entire trip so that hampered things a bit too.
Overall, we had a fine experience on RC and would cruise with this line again. It was a great value for a long getaway weekend. We waited til the last minute and were able to get a great deal on a balcony cabin. If your dates and times are flexible, there are good deals out there.
