Holland America's Veendam "dam" good cruise! Ship is going into dry dock 1/3/06 for refurbishing and they are adding larger and newer fitness center and improving the children's area. Also, adding a Starbucks and a bigger-up-to-date internet cafe. These changes are due to feedback from comment sheets and web sites such as this one. They do review info found on the internet so sites like this prove very helpful not only to us travelers but to the cruise lines.

I traveled with my husband and we are late 50's. Did find that majority of cruisers were in a late 60s group. Only a few families with children. I do not feel that this ship is yet equipped for many children activities.

Our outside cabin was roomy and clean. Bath big by cruise line standards, even had a tub/shower combo. Hair dryer, shampoos and body lotions provided. Caution- tub narrow and if you use oils or bubble bath it is pretty tricky to try and get back out of tub. LOL. Used the self laundry midway into trip. Great. $2.00 wash that includes the soap and $1.00 for dry. Also provides ironing gear for free. Read more
