Norwegian Star - Alaska

Sail Date: August 2005
Destination: Alaska
Embarkation: Seattle
This was our very first trip on a cruise liner so picking our cruise was made through the internet. Our excursions were booked directly through NCL, which was paid in full and vouchers were sent back to us through mail which made this easy for choosing such excursions.

Flew into Seattle the nite before found a hotel close to the airport, that was nice. With continental breakfast. Hotel front desk made arrangements for pick up at the hotel to the pier at about 12:00 p.m. cause ck in time is about 1:00 p.m. This was Seattle's weekend when the Blue Angels were flying around and also races at Lake Washington with formula boats. Seattle town was busy that weekend loved it.

Got to the pier and proceeded ck in which took about an hour showing passports and state id or birth certificates. Checked in bags and onto the gangway onboard the ship. On the ship 2 BALLS was in front of us, had no clue what it was but found out it was hand wash that was filled with alcohol solution More to stop viruses such as safety is a common factor on this ship. which was put out through out the ships restaurants, casino  public areas. This is a great idea!

As entering the ship we swiped on with our key/id/charge card which becomes our source of barter for the next 7 days . Then posed for the photographer for our group pic. Note: if you know you had a great smile that day for heavens sake buy the picture you won't regret it 'cause you're on vacation!

Found our rooms! actually we had 2 so we went to both of them, inside state room was nice and the other one with a porthole was a bigger cabinet:) as Keiren the cruise director would say. Everyone was impressed on the condition of the room which was well kept. Thank you to the cabin stewards who really made a our stay a great one.

We went the option for freestyle dining first of all we had a great time at SOHO restaurant, the staff there was absolutely great. Ginza restaurant loved the the lobster that complimented the wine that we had gotten. Sushi Ba , chefs were very fast in making sushi. We also had breakfast and lunch at Versailles food was excellent. .We decided to try Aqua found some delicious menus that executive Chef Jorge should be commended for ,note came to our table introduce himself found he worked in Hawaii for a while and had travel considerably, honing his skills. Maitre d' at Aqua made everyone feel at home and I would like to mention our waiters and waiter assistants, GREAT Service! Market place has a fast service if you need to eat on the go.

As for bars there all over the place, Cafe espresso is also a great place to sip mocha, which is the central lobby of the ship. There is also other specialty restaurants Le Bistro, Cagneys, Tex Mexican also available.

Clubs -- Spinnaker lounge , Stardust great shows!loved every nite of it go see the magic show and comedian made me laugh till I cried! Of course the dance, musical talent and Chinese acrobat, and also go see that lovely chocolate lady which will make you smile 'cause at the end YOU PAID FOR IT! (you'll know what i'm talking about}.

During the day play bingo, play krakit and win! Enjoy the hostess and host guide you through your day, then wager the casino during the nite. Also enjoyed the Spa and walks around the boat meeting many different people.

Excursions at each port should be done through your own preference, #1 that I really liked was the crab fishing at Ketchikan, great narration on the boat , most of all dungeonese crabs were awesome eating at the lodge. As for all the ports of call we loved it and it was sunny all week.

Oh yeah when you get to the glacier park listen to the sound of that Bang! when the ice cracks off the glacier, just thinking couldn't get closer than that.

My overall rating of my Cruise is that it topped off all my expectations, money well spent and enjoyed every single day! Norwegian Cruise line especially the Staff of the Norwegian Star We say thank you you did an excellent job made our vacation one to remember, hope to be on another NCL cruise soon! Less
