Sapphire Princess Cruise Review by goalie1973
- Sail Date: February 2013
- Destination: Mexican Riviera
Food: I am grading this against the Carnival cruises I have been on and one Royal Caribbean.
Good options, but small. A wide variety of desserts.
Other food: B+
The pizza was okay and hamburgers kind of bland, but Alfredo's Pizzeria and the International Cafe were both awesome. Room service was really good too.
Dining rooms: A
We're not picky. The food was really good.
Service: AWESOME. Everywhere we went, from the different dining rooms (we had anytime dining) to the Pizzeria to our cabin steward to room service. All were terrific.
Things to do: The indoor pool on this ship was the bomb. Kids loved it and so did the parents. On the sunny/warm days the outdoor pool was good, but on those windy, colder sea days the indoor pool was great.
The movies under the stars was really cool too. Also the variety of sports activities was a lot of fun - basketball, tennis, shuffleboard, bocce ball, golf, ping pong.
Onboard entertainment - a solid mix for whatever you like. We saw all three production shows and enjoyed them. I especially liked that they were short :)
One of the comedians was excellent and the guy with puppets was pretty funny too. The last musician/comedian combo stunk.
Visited the fitness center 4x, each time it was busy but I could still use the areas and machines/treadmills I wanted.
Overall the cruise was an A+. The days at sea were relaxing and fun, and the ports were all entertaining (Vallarta, Cabo, Ensenada), although we never strayed too far from the ship and we did not do any excursions. The weather in all three ports was sunny and warm, perfect.
What could be done better - we had two cabins and one of them had a toilet issue that had to be fixed twice. Also, I have a suggestion for all cruise ship lines: instead of having the very, very hard to understand Captain give updates from the bridge, have someone do it for him. I enjoy the updates on what's happening with the ship, but the Italian guys are extremely hard to understand.
Disembarkation - also very easy. Princess has the best embark/disembark system of any cruise line we've tried. FAR better than Carnival.
Final verdict: This was our first Princess cruise and we are now BIG fans.

Cabo San LucasCabo is always great. No excursions, just walked around and people watched. A few cervezas and chips/salsa too.View All 1,148 Cabo San Lucas Cruise Port Reviews

EnsenadaEnsenada is simply a tourist trap. If you want some good deals on Mexican stuff, walk into town to the main drag.View All 434 Ensenada Cruise Port Reviews

Puerto VallartaWe stayed very close to the boat, visiting the little shops just off the ship. The little restaurant next to the shops had great beer specials and awesome chips and salsa. The little flea market was fun.View All 832 Puerto Vallarta Cruise Port Reviews
