Norwegian Epic Cruise Review by bbqueen
- Sail Date: February 2013
- Destination: Eastern Caribbean
- Cabin Type: Mini-Suite with Balcony
So my review for kids entertainment.....F rating!! Beware if you travel with other families and expect to have some flexibility in the age groups as there is none. Royal Caribbean will bump up or down kids based on their maturity but not Norwegian!! They had no problem letting them in to adult venues like Second City etc where subject matters were questionable.
Adult entertainment was good. Blue Man Group fun and loved the Cirque Du Soleil show. Legends was a fun show as well as the late night magician Jeff Hobson. Cruise director was nowhere near as good as on other cruises....good thing he had a good staff. Bingo game was a money maker for Norwegian and not the players. For one session we figured they took in $6,000 and shared only about $1150 as prize payouts! Beware of bingo!! Also if you play go a 1/2 hour later as the selling process took over an hour to complete.
Food in specialty restaurants was very good...dining room not so good. Buffet was ample and adequate but by the end of the week we would have liked a little more variety.
Staterooms were interesting. Bathroom was crazy. Very uncomfortable as the glass was partially see thru and the noise level amplified.
Ports of call were nice however due to a scheduling error we were not allowed to dock in Nassau so our 3 port trip became two. Strange they could have a scheduling error as they do this every week. We all made the best of it because Norwegian plied everyone with rum punch to help with the disgruntled feelings.
I have been a huge fan of Norwegian and booked this after loving my trips on the Gem and the Jade and last years Oasis but there are big hits and misses on this boat. Was considering the Breakaway next but now not sure.
Port & Shore Excursion Reviews
St. MaartenLovely town and easy to walk to. We walked off the boat and just strolled the town to see the shops. We then rented chairs on the lovely boardwalk beach and just relaxed. Great little restaurants are there for meals with tasty food that is different than what you get on the boat. Don't miss the Yoda Guy if you are a Star Wars fan. Loved this port and would go back there again.View All 4,132 St. Maarten Cruise Port Reviews

St. ThomasIf you want to buy jewelry then this is the place for you...if not there is not much to see. Beware the guys on the street who offer Island tours and take you to "St Thomas's best beach....Sapphire Beach". It is far from the best beach. They take you to a seedy resort where you pay $7 for a beach chair among a debris filled beach at a run down resort with no restaurant and minimal bathroom facilites. We waited online for 25 minutes just to use facilities. They took us for a photo stop of Magen's beach and even said it was one of the most beautiful beaches in the world but the payola stop was not there. Do not be fooled. Go to Magens Beach.View All 4,104 St. Thomas Cruise Port Reviews
