Norwegian Sun Cruise Review by bigcity57
- Sail Date: January 2013
- Destination: Southern Caribbean
- Cabin Type: Mid-Ship Inside
Was greeted by a crew member on boarding the ship but was not handed a map of the ship as expected. We always eat when we board and just followed other passengers that knew their way to the Garden Cafe for lunch.
I was glad to see a crew member spraying passengers hands with disinfectant at all entries to eating places.
The size of the Sun was to our liking. We had an inside cabin and it was bigger than expected with lots of closet and drawer space. We were always able to find seats at the Stardust Lounge and many of the other bars and lounges, except around the pool and in Dazzles.
Enjoyed all the entertainment at the Stardust, ie; magician, comedian, singers/dancers, hypnotist and especially the acrobats.
The day after boarding our CC group had a meet and greet in Las Ramblas cafe which was well attended by many of the ships officers. After brief introductions and a game similar to bingo we had a cabin crawl and visited seven different cabins. This is the first time my wife and I participated in a cabin crawl and really enjoyed it. It gave us the opportunity to see cabins we might consider on future cruises.
As CC's we were invited on a galley tour and we really enjoyed having the Executive Chef Orvill as our guide. He had a good sense of humor and was down to earth and didn't miss a beat explaining all the different food preparation stations. My wife also enjoyed his cooking demonstration.
We ate all but four meals in the Seven Seas MDR. The service was excellent and the meals were well presented, prepared and tasty. We enjoyed both Lobster nights and the Paella on deck which included cut up Lobster in addition to other sea food (excellent).
We missed escargot not being on the menu and was told there's a shortest in the market place. Perhaps this is the reason it wasn't offered. This was our first freestyle cruise and we like it. We had our fill with the food but did not gain any weight. I guess it's because of the many activities aboard the ship and the walking we did ashore..
On our first port of call Cartagena, Columbia we booked a 3 1/2 hour city tour with Cartagena tours company. It was an excellent tour in an a/c van with an English speaking guide.
In Oranjestad, Aruba we wanted to go scuba diving and since we having dove in over a year we were unable to dive and booked a snorkeling tour off a catamaran to see a sunken ship and different fishes. The water was choppy and had a lot of plankton because of lots of rain the previous day. We still had a good time dancing to music on board and drinking rum and coke.
In Willemstad, Curacao we booked a city Trolley tour. After the tour we did some shopping prior to returning to the ship.
In St. Maarten we went ashore but didn't book anything because that was our forth trip there.
In St. Thomas we tried to book a tour to St. John's and the ferry to go over there was broken down and the tours were cancelled. We've been to St. Thomas a number times and just walked around.
This 11 night cruise on the NCL Sun was great and we were glad we booked it. The ship is older but will maintained. Our only con is not having a flat screen TV in the cabin. We would highly recommend this cruise ship.

St. ThomasWe tried to book a tour to St. Johns and was notified that the ferry was not in service. This was very disappointing. However we did visit the Butterfly Farm and parrot show on the dock and really enjoyed it. Would recommend them.View All 4,104 St. Thomas Cruise Port Reviews
