Celebrity Summit Cruise Review by newcruisergal
- Sail Date: January 2013
- Destination: Southern Caribbean
- Cabin Type: Concierge Class 1
We enjoyed the perks of Concierge Class, particularly special embarkation/debarkation areas which made the processes faster. Aft cabin was very nice, slightly smaller than RCCL but with a larger bathroom. Our room steward was fantastic, in fact the service throughout the Summit was the best we've ever had, there was just a genuine sense of warm hospitality no matter where we went.
We had the Premium Beverage Package and would highly recommend it, we were quite happy with the wines available by the glass and it covered all the beers and martinis at the martini bar/crush. Sheldon and Jennifer were the best bartenders, they took such good care of us at the martini bar. Our MDR staff were excellent as well (Vincent, Percy and Jelena). We never wanted for wine service and Vincent steered us towards the best menu choices each night.
Our group of 4 did Qsine and Normandie, we enjoyed Normandie very much as the ambience, food and service were well worth the $40/person charge. Qsine was a fun experience with great service but we were underwhelmed with the food quality. MDR dinners were good to very good, but the breakfast and lunch buffets were truly bad. Most food over cooked, disorganized stations, impossible to get a sandwich in the late afternoon. Room service breakfast a big disappointment as well, wrong food orders and again food quality just not as good as what we've experienced on RCCL. We do not do sweet for breakfast, only savory items, so maybe those items were better but the eggs/potatoes were terrible no matter the venue we tried.
The pool grill burgers/fries and all the offerings at the Aqua Spa Cafe were very good, wish they had expanded hours of operation. We did not care for the onboard guitar and piano players, wish it had been soft acoustic music instead of the loud vocal renditions of Beatles/Elvis they had. Not very appropriate for our Caribbean location, would have preferred a steel drum band. Guitarists playing at the Sunset Bar did very much detract from our enjoyment of our aft balcony at sail-a-way, just way too loud to enjoy sitting out there.
We loved the welcome aboard glass of champagne, the return to ship cold washcloth and cold drinks offered, the use of the beverage package to grab a bottle of water or vitamin water on our way to port..lots of little touches that felt very pampering. Would like to try Aqua Class net time as Blue looked like a nice intimate dining experience.
