Sailed on Reflection January 12th out of Miami. We are a gay couple in our early 40's and this was our 3rd sailing on a Solstice class ship (previously we have sailed on the Eclipse and Solstice). Once again, Celebrity met our expectations. This ship is beautiful, service was excellent, and food was great. Our previous sailings were in Aqua Class, but this time we opted for a deluxe veranda cabin. Cabin was exactly the same as our previous Aqua Cabins minus the special shower head, different spa-like amenities, water and sparkling wine (we did not miss any of these extras). Our reason for sailing Aqua in the past was to have access to Blu restaurant but we can honestly say we did not miss it. Food in the main dining room was excellent. I am a vegan and the menu is clearly labelled with appropriate options. Maitre D provided menu for following day each night so I could preview it and if there was not something I liked the chef prepared something special for me. Staff in main buffet were knowledgeable on food ingredients and were able to let me know what was vegan and what was not.
Aqua Spa on the Reflection is double the size. We purchased a week pass which cost $199 for the two of us. it's good they doubled the size as on Eclipse and Solstice the spa was often crowded - not so on the Reflection. They only sell a certain number of weekly passes so best to get them on embarkation day in case they sell out.
Staff were all very friendly and accommodating. Must say that the captain on this ship was fantastic. He always had a presence around the ship and made daily announcements. He was very personable and you got the impression that he genuinely cared about each and every passengers safety and well being.
We like Celebrity because of their strict non-smoking policies. Smoking is restricted to only a few outside areas on the ship. No smoking is allowed on stateroom balconies. Our neighbours were apparently not aware of this and on embarkation day were smoking on their balconies and it was drifting over to ours. We spoke with the assistant housekeeping manager and she dealt with the situation immediately. From then on we had no issues and the manager checked in with us several times during the week to make sure there were no more issues.
We did feel more movement on this ship than on previous ships. Very rocky on our first few days.
We didn't partake in a lot of the Celebrity life activities but did attend the Captain's presentation on ship navigation which was very interesting and I'd recommend it. Magic show was also very good.
Following our week on the Reflection we sailed a quick 2 nights on the Constellation, which was a completely different experience (see my review in the Constellation review section). We love the Solstice class ships and would recommend them highly. They are definitely not "party" ships, but for us a week of rest and relaxation in 'modern luxury' is exactly what we want, and once again Celebrity did not disappoint.
Cabin 8138 - Deluxe Ocean View. Excellent cabin choice. Very quiet - no noise from above or below. Very close to forward elevators but no issues with noise from elevators. Bed close to balcony.
Took a walk through Old San Juan (go left when you get off ship) and it was very nice. Walk by the wall that surround the city and the "red door" that was once the entrance to the city. Other than this, typical port with lots of shopping, which does not interest us.
Very pretty port. Took a cab to Orient Beach. Water was rough but we had a great time on the beach and in the water. Rented chairs for $5 each at a restaurant called 'Ethnic'. The guy was very friendly - chairs comfortable and we got a drink for $2. You can take a walk down the beach to the clothing optional section. Beyond that there is a 'clothing not optional' section meaning you have to be nude!!!
Weather not great when we were here (rainy and overcast) so our plans to go to the beach were replaced with a trip in to town. Typical Caribbean port town with lots of Diamonds International stores. Not our thing. Found a cute cobble stoned side street with an outside bar so sat and had a few cocktails (sorry, can't remember the name of it). People were very friendly.
