We were the first passengers to board the Viking Aegir's maiden voyage. Check-in was easy, the cabin (even though it was the lowest category because I got the last cabin available when I signed up) was excellent. The ship had the smell of brand new carpet and they vacuumed about three times a day because of new-carpet-fuzzbunnies. The staff was absolutely fabulous. Cabin stewardess, wait staff, front desk staff, everyone was great and really seemed happy and enthusiastic about their jobs.
The Captain, being the leader of the crew, obviously provided a great work environment for the staff. The Cruise Director, Feliz, was born for her job. She truly enjoyed it and was always available from early morning to late evening. The food was EXCEPTIONAL every meal and the service was impeccable. The off-boat excursions were meticulously planned and came off without any major hitches. The personal audio devices in every cabin were a great ammenity and when one did not work a staff member was always nearby with assistance.
Having a staff member on each excursion was excellent because they were a "touch of home" in that they were someone to talk to if you missed something the guide said. All of the guides were top quality too. Overall the Aegir was a great vessel with a great itinerary and a GREAT staff. I have been recommending it to everyone who wants a great cruise.
Cabin was excellent though below the water line. The window was too high for short people but that can't be helped when you live in the basement:)
