Costa Serena Cruise Review by patd1948
- Sail Date: September 2012
- Destination: Western Mediterranean
The ship was very clean and the staff was very friendly and made my husband & I feel very welcome.
The food was very good and the the service was excellent. We were ated with other English speaking couples at dinner who were also enjoying the cruise.
The tips are billed at the end of the cruise but we felt the service was so good that we gave an additional tip to the cabin steward and the waiters. We had a balconey cabin on deck 7 & our cabin steward Reina made sure that our cabin was always and & inviting to come back to. If you can afford it the balconey is the way to go! A couple at our dinner table were on deck two and they said they were awakened at 4AM every morning for the staff wake up call.
We are not smokers even though smoking is allowed in the cabins for those that do, there was no odor from any previous smokers. There is no smoking in the eating areas or the lounges and it is enforced.
We were a little disappointed that a few excursions were cancelled due to low sign up. Most of the excursions we went on were pleasant, but unfortunately we did not go on the one that everyone said was fantastic-the excursion to Monaco.
There are mostly Europeans on this cruise so the announcements are in several languages, English being the last. Some staff spoke much better English than others, but all the staff we met spoke enough English to be helpful. Holly is the hostess for the English speaking and is very helpful and readily available if needed (She also has a great singing voice!).
There were 2 formal nights; most men wore suits & not a tux, most women wore evening dresses and a few wore gowns. The shows wee not Broadway quality but were enjoyable, especially the ventriloquist.
There are no washcloths for the shower, I brought a bath sponge which worked out very well. A must to pack is Downey wrinkle releaser-it works fantastic on wrinkled clothes-no need for pressing! There is an outlet in the room that does not need a converter. The hair drier works well enough. Don't forget to pack an umbrella and light raincoat-you never know if you need it. Our weather was beautiful but we did get one day of rain.
Happily, overall it was a great cruise!
