Celebrity Solstice Cruise Review by TnTravel
- Sail Date: August 2012
- Destination: Western Mediterranean
- Cabin Type: Sky Suite
The ship was lovely, the wait staff attentive, the drinks prices reasonable, our table mates delightful, and the food excellent. We were in a Suite and Captain Club Select so enjoyed many perks.
There was a problem embarking. At the Duty Free Shop we bought two bottles of wine for our room. Two men at ship said we could not take them to our room. The brochure clearly states that we may. They finally let us go but we resented the hassle.
We ate in MDR except for one night in Silk and one in Tuscany. They were both very good, but I am glad we didn't have to pay extra for them. We did have two lunches at the outside grill. Yummy hot dogs, burgers with grilled onions, and the best french fries ever. The Cafe upstairs may have good food but it is a zoo and very confusing.
We attended several shows that were good. Our one complaint was the loudness. Perhaps it was our center front seats, but I heard complaints from others in other areas.
We went to one of the Captain parties but skipped the second. Again, the music was so loud we could not visit with fellow passengers. Many left early for that reason.
The last day we never received a Comment Card. Disembarking went very smoothly.
It is not Celebrity's fault that our flight home out of JFK was cancelled after 3 hrs on runway and we spent the night with skimpy airline blanket and pillow. It just made us hesitant of crossing the sea gain.
Huge with way more storage than needed by two people. Bath large enough with great rain shower. Butler, Chip, was very attentive and quick to help with reservations etc. On his own he brought me melted butter for my morning grits. The steward, Charlie, kept us well supplied and our room clean.
Problem was metal chairs scraping against concrete on the bar above our heads. Our deck was completely covered which was nice, but I don't know that I would choose to be on 12 again.

Wine TourActually docked in Livorno. I had been to Florence and Pisa, and husband not interested, so opted for a delightful winery tour with a generous sampling of the wines and some food. Very leisurely and relaxing.View All 39 Wine Tour Reviews
KotorNever been to Montenegro or Croatia and was stunned by beauty of both places. In Kotor we were on own own again but had a good map from concierge desk. Lunch was outside at Hotel Rendevous where waitress was able to convert prices in to Euros for us. Relaxing day.View All 537 Kotor Cruise Port Reviews

HerculaneumBeen to Pompeii so chose Herculaneum. Fascinating place. Really wished we could have stayed longer and explored more on our own.View All 65 Herculaneum Reviews
Rome (Civitavecchia)Not docked in Rome. Most excursions started very early in day and lasted nine hours. Chose to take train to St. Peter's Station and then walk. Very hot in Rome. Very confusing even with two maps in our hands. After seeing most of the sights, we got a taxi to Termini Station. Be warned that it is two levels and there is no one to help you find your train. Not sure exploring Rome alone is good idea.View All 1,881 Rome (Civitavecchia) Cruise Port Reviews

City TourRained first day so didn't get off ship. Took a boat ride around the islands the second morning. I had spent time in Venice so didn't care about getting in crowds. Loved the view from our aft deck as we entered and left Venice.View All 26 City Tour Reviews
VillefrancheFirst day of cruise so went ashore to explore on our own. Lovely town with small beach. Enjoyed lunch outside at cafe with free wi-fi. There is a small soap factory where we purchased gifts. Felt ike part of the village.View All 288 Villefranche Cruise Port Reviews
