Volendam Cruise Review by Dani83
- Sail Date: August 2012
- Destination: Alaska
- Cabin Type: Large Interior Stateroom
The scenery was incredible! The Inside Passage of British Columbia/Alaska is absolutely stunning! We loved each port: Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan. Very charming places, lots of time in ports to wander around and take excursions if we chose to! Glacier Bay was so beautiful and peaceful! We saw a lot of wildlife on this cruise, from bears to whales.
The Volendam ship was wonderful! Very nice, and it was a good size to walk around (not too big). It never felt crowded on the ship, and there were lots of indoor spaces to relax, and outdoor viewing areas for the lovely scenery! The food was great! The staff were helpful, friendly, and kind!
Another positive experience with HAL, I will definitely cruise with them again! Alaska is incredible....I hope to visit again in the near future!

JuneauWe wandered around the town on our own mostly! Lovely town. The weather was rainy and foggy, so we chose not to go up the Mt Roberts Tram. Instead we took the blue express shuttle bus from the dock, to Mendenhall Glacier....it is a beautiful glacier to see up-close, and the visitor's centre is very informative and worth a visit!View All 1,253 Juneau Cruise Port Reviews

KetchikanThis port was wonderful! Such a beautiful place, and it was a lovely view sailing into port. At the cruise ship dock, we booked a short tour with a local company....they took us around the town a bit, and then on a gorgeous drive to Herring Cove, where we saw many bears and eagles in the area! Afterwards, we wandered around downtown and Creek Street (which was very nice). And then we took the tram from Creek Street up to Cape Fox Lodge, and had lunch at the restaurant up there....it was great! A very nice day in a fantastic town.View All 1,428 Ketchikan Cruise Port Reviews

SkagwayWe booked an excursion through a tour company, not through our ship. We took the 'White Pass and Yukon Railway' all the way to Carcross, in the Yukon (briefly stopping at Fraser and Lake Bennett along the way).....wow! What an incredible and historic journey, lovely scenery everywhere you look! We had plenty of time in port that day, so we were able to wander around the town when we returned to Skagway. What a charming town, beautiful buildings and lovely scenery!View All 905 Skagway Cruise Port Reviews
