Sail Date: May 2005

DH and I took a 3-day cruise on the Sun Princess on May 6. The itinerary was Vancouver, Seattle, Victoria, Vancouver - just the Canadian equivalent of a Baja cruise from LA. We had taken the Diamond LA-Vancouver repo earlier in the week, and had a blast, and were looking forward to trying a Sun Class ship for the first time (our 5th cruise on Princess, 12th cruise overall).

I have to say that we were disappointed in the Sun. The ship was packed with partygoers (more on that below), which made for a boisterous cruise. There was apparently a large crew turnover in Vancouver, and it showed in slow service and attitudes that ranged from indifferent to downright surly, which some notable exceptions. We will sail Princess again, but will choose our itineraries and ships more carefully.

Embarkation was a long, slow process. We arrived at about noon, and stood in line for about an hour to get through security. US customs only took about 5 minutes, and then we were able to check in for the cruise itself. We were eligible for Platinum check in because we had booked a full suite, but the regular Caribe Deck line had nobody in it, so we opted for that. Princess does not provide an escort to your cabin, but we knew where we were from viewing the layout online, so we found our room easily.
