MSC Musica Cruise Review by sporadicritic
- Sail Date: August 2012
- Destination: Eastern Mediterranean
The key requirements were definitely in place: a safe and well managed cruise on an excellent, well maintained and very clean ship, with friendly and courteous staff. Our balcony cabin was very pleasant: well equipped, spacious enough for us, comfortable bed.
There were a lot of different nationalities represented in terms both of passengers and staff. Some passengers were in large family and friend groups, and at times the children were a bit noisy. It's probably inevitable in the main school holiday period, and with apparently free places for children.
Those looking for a more sedate environment might not be too comfortable on the cruise, but certainly our cabin provided the peace and privacy whenever we needed it.
We had our evening meals in the Oleandro dining room; the food was generally good to very good, and the service was efficient and pleasant.
We only bought one excursion - we generally managed to do see what we wanted to without too much of a problem at 30-40% of the shore excursion price. A bit of research on the Internet helps.
Truth to tell, we felt at times that there were too many money-making activities, ranging from hard sell drink packages to expensive shuttle coaches and including expensive photo packages at meals, embarkation, and 'meet the captain' functions. The daily service charge of euros per person, as well as the 15% service charge on drinks purchases, all added up!
We are not particularly extrovert or gregarious people; we might have enjoyed the trip even more if we had felt inclined to join in drinking sessions at bars, casinos, pool entertainments, holiday camp-style competitions, but we were quite happy not to. Every evening there was a well choreographed light entertainment show, designed for an international audience and delivered by an energetic and talented group of singers, dancers, athletes, conjurers and jugglers. Not top class, but innocuous and generally good quality.
We chose the cruise as it was a relaxing way of visiting a number of places we wanted to see - Greek islands and Dubrovnik in particular.
We return with a sense of mission accomplished and a feeling that we would like to cruise again.

Taxi at 20 euros each way was the best method of getting there. Good idea to buy a decent guide book.
