lovely mediterranean cruise

Sail Date: June 2012
Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean
Embarkation: Barcelona
Sailing dates: 16 Jun - 28 Jun Embarkation: Swift - arrived at port around 2pm straight through a very quick line and on the ship in 20 min

Ship: Lovely decorated. Maybe some areas could be utilised better

Stateroom: Aqua class mid-ship. Ship motion was never uncomfortable. A bit of excessive overhang. Excellent facilities. Was missing some mentioned perks like aromatheraphy which was non existent and flowers were nearly dead. We did have an extra bottle of sparkling wine probably to cover for these minor deficiencies.

Blu restaurant: EXCELLENT! great food, excellent portions and great staff with particular mention to the polish lady sommelier (name was too difficult to remember) who despite my wife and myself being both of the drinks package she took excellent care of ourselves and delivered a service way beyond any expectations. My wife drinks champaign, prosecco, brut, cava...anything that is bubbly and everytime she made sure every glass was to our More liking. Another special mention goes to the assitant waitress from Croatia (Anita?). I am a director in a hotel and I wish any of our most senior staff delivered the level of personal service and attention that she did. Excellent personality. Excellent for bfast as well but very limited timeframe when at port and too early when at sea.

Murano: Good but given the price I somehow expected something more. Probably with Blu exceeding expectations it was hard to do much more better...if at all. Atmosphere a bit dull.

Silk Harvest: Excellent Sushi and service. Filled up ourselves with a sushi platter (which we love) and didnt really try anything else but that's only our fault :)

Tuscan Grill: Excellent food and better atmosphere to Murano. I still pity not being able to finish some of the courses but portions are quite large. Had the best creme brulee ever...even though i struggled being really full but could not stop myself from finishing it.

Oceanview: Good for a buffet. Varied but repeated menu made it less interesting after a couple of lunches but sushi is a nice touch.

Aqua cafe: just went there to pick up small ahi tuna plates which i love whenever they had it available.

MasterGrill: only grabbed some fries by the pool. Was going to go for a burger a few times but there was too much food.

Room service: excellent for bfast when cruising into some ports like Venice, Kotor, etc.

Drinks package and bars: Had the premium drinks package x 2. Excellent for us but we like to have a few drinks by the pool. My wife drinks mimosas for breakfast and we like to go for a cocktail and a drink after dinner apart from a glass of wine at dinner. Never any concern with staff who always served us promptly. Excellent service and personality by Cranston at the pool bar. Alot of bar options which the best quality cocktails at the molecular bar - excellent service here as well. Try the 'coming up roses' or the 'ginger mohito'.

Entertainment: only went for 2 shows and wished we did the comedy juggler. The Solstice The Show was nice and the magician show was amazing. Apart from the juggler some friends we made on the ship explained the other shows were disappointing. Being assigned in Blue we went for dinner rather late and missed most of the shows also given that the ship was showing the euro 2012 matches and we are great football/soccer fans. The most disappointing point about the ship is the club. Being a relatively young couple in our early 30s I love some nightlife style clubbing. It was always the same 10 people in a club which could have been an excellent spot for a late night out particularly when the next day was a sea day. We knew all the Quasar (nightclub) frequenters by name after the second night meaning it was always the same least they were a GREAT crowd which still made it fun but all of us were hoping for more action each never happened...of course i understand we were on a line known for an elevated average age crowd. Also having a quite a number of bar/lounge options on different floors I guess the crowd got dispersed but the group hopped most of them each night looking for a hot spot.

Pool area: Only thing is that as you would expect it would get crowded on sea days so make sure to get to the deck early. It filled up later than we expected so we always got a good spot.

Shore excursions: Did a few with celebrity and they were excellent...excellent ports helped. Of course you always get the 'late couple' at each tour which made the whole group waste time but this is not celebrity's fault. Ports like Venice and Kotor we did on our own. Excellent to have overnight in Venice cause you did not feel the time pressure on the first day as you could board the ship at any time.

Disembarkation: We asked for late call and got the last call. After our number was called it took not more than 20 min to be off the ship so pretty swift and great to have an airport like setup in Barcelona rather than just luggage left around a drop-off area.

Overall: Excellent Less
