Amsterdam Cruise Review by SunLakesBob
- Sail Date: June 2012
- Destination: Alaska
- Cabin Type: Neptune Suite with Verandah
Cruise - We were concerned about taking our granddaughters (11 & 14) on a Holland cruise. We were pleasantly surprised. The cruise went out of their way to assure the girls had everything they needed or wanted. The girls enjoyed theirselves so well, they want to know when the next cruise with us is!
Cabin - We normally stay in a balcony, but upgraded to a suite to accomondate the girls. Service was excellent. The Neptune Lounge added to the fun/food for all of us. The free laundry was a great feature.
Food - We ate breakfast in the Lido every morning, since we are early risers. No other location open. One recommendation that Holland could address, since a majority of their guests get up early, is to have an alternative to the Lido. We ate most of the dinners in the main dining room. Food was good, service was excellent.
Specialty Dining - We tried the Italian and Steak specialty dining. The Italian was okay, nothing special. Main dining was better. The highly acclaimed steak dining was a disappointment. Service was slow, the waiter was abrubt, sent the steak back twice because they were not cooked correctly. The third time was still incorrect, but decided to eat it. Talked to the manager who said he will let the chief know, then he disappeared. Never went back.As one wise person once told me, you can always find something wrong with a cruise. Don't let it bother you - move on! We did. We put the steak experience behind us and we had a great cruise.
Icy Point - this is where we did different tours the zipline and the whale watching cruise. Both exceeded our expectations
Disembarkation - We selected the VIP luggage service. For a fee, our luggage was taken from our stateroom and was delivered to our house. A great service if you can get it. Leaving the ship was too easy and too quick.
In closing we are disappointed that this is the last year that Holland is doing the 14 day Alaska cruise. As far as we know there are no others - how sad!
