Jewel In Alaska

Sail Date: June 2012
Destination: Alaska
Embarkation: Seattle
We flew into Seattle the day before and stayed at Hyatt Place~downtown~excellent~ highly recommend. We used the nice free breakfast at the hotel and the free 1 mile radius shuttle to take us to our Pier 66.

Embarkation~ A++++++ we were on the ship in less than 20 minutes with checking in 8 people.

We ate at Tzars for our first meal~ it was good and by the time our meal was finished our cabin were ready about 1:30.

Our cabins were 11552 and adjoining 11550 mini~suites and one inside cabin down the hall 11577 for our adult children. The mini~suites were the right size for 3 adults and plenty of storage, the bed and pull out bed was very comfortable-the pull~out would need to be one adult or 2 small people or 2 people who like to cuddle all night.

We ate at Cagney's-excellent ~~ Mama's ~ not so good. Mama's was slow , the food was not very warm~even with a 5:45 reservation we had to tell them to hurry up desert so we could make it to the 7:30 show. More After that night, we always told our server we wanted to make the show and had no more issues. The issues with the dinning in the main dining rooms was the food was not always hot~ usually a lukewarm and slow at times. The buffet was full and busy but always had plenty of food and not so plenty chairs. We had several in our party so we tag~teamed, someone would save seats while others got their food. The kids loved the room service~ no more eggs all day on the room service menu.

Entertainment~~ loved JP~he's funny and puts on a great show. Team Nickelodeon was great~ you don't see the characters very much though. Fire and Ice- she does a great Michael Jackson and Tina Turner~ she is awesome. The Cirque du jour is a neat show to see. The production team team is very good. The comedian David Naster we saw on the Pearl and didn't go see him on this trip.

Ports-- Ketchikan~ lumberjack show bought on my own~ through the Internet sight~ I could pick a later show that way~ we didn't want to get up and be at a show at 8 am-get there early they fill up fast~ FUN show.

Juneau~ bought whale watching tours with Dolphin Tours--excellent tour~we saw 2 humpback whales and about 12 orca whales great tour and much cheaper than the ship. Glacier watching starts in the late afternoon~ a sight to see.

Skagway- train tour with ship- I would buy this tour with the ship as the trains are often late and was the case with our ship and it doesn't cost less to book directly with the WhitePass Train ~ you wouldn't want to risk being left behind.

Victoria BC~ not much just the bus into town and walked around- the beggars and street performers are out in full force.

We had good weather~ no rain and it wasn't too cold. One really bad rocking sea day~ they had barf bags everywhere for the passengers.

Disembarkation~ Would be A+ except for the one nasty lady at customs~ not NCL fault ~ off the ship cabin to curbside with luggage and a great porter who got us a Van big enough for 8 in 20 minutes.

Great entertainment, great for the kid, food could be better and served warm. Less
