Bahamas Celebration Cruise Review by Funtime60
- Sail Date: April 2012
- Destination: Bahamas
This is an older ship, it's smaller than than the cruise ships you'll find on Norwegian, Carnival or Royal Caribbean, and it offers a limited itinerary. But it isn't meant to be compared to a week-long Caribbean cruise. This is a two-day cruise that provides just enough activity and variety for two days. But what they do, they do extremely well. We had a wonderful time, and will absolutely return.
I mentioned that this was an older ship. Yet you can tell that cleanliness and maintenance are a priority because everywhere you go there is always someone cleaning, sweeping, polishing, etc. We booked an outside cabin which was adequate for our short trip.
Service was outstanding. The staff was most accommodating to our passenger needs. This was a wonderful ship to cruise on!!!
Embarkation was easy and fast. The staff was friendly, most helpful and expedient with all the paperwork, credit card processing, photograph and obtaining your key card.
The Port of West Palm was very easy to access and well marked for new visitors to the area. the directions provided were most explicit. . There is no self-parking at this port, however at $15 a day it is no more expensive to valet park at other launch facilities. It was a GREAT to have someone bring us our car within minutes of passing through customs on our way out.
I found the food to be very good. The dining style in the two main dining areas is a bit unique. The Rio is a buffet with the entree being served at the table but salads and dessert are open to your selection on the buffet bar. The Crystal dining room is very nice upscale dining and the service was fabulous with excellent table service.
It was easy to navigate around the ship. We were able to traverse the whole passenger areas of the ship on decks 3, 4, 7, 8 and 9. Mid ship decks 5 and 6 are restricted to staff only, which means you can't get from the front to the back of the ship on those decks without going up or down one deck. The elevators were are slow so we found it quicker and easier to just use the stairs. You need the exercise as I tend to eat more than I should but the food is always wonderful with new treats to try!!!
There was plenty to do on the boat. The View showroom offered bingo and movies during the day, two shows each evening and then became a disco into the late night hours. The Ocean Breeze Lounge was a sports bar during the day and offered karaoke at night. There was music and a variety of contests and activities going on all day by the pool, including a make-your-own cocktail contest. There was an Internet cafe, a gift shop, a small gym and the spa on deck 3. And Pub 437 on deck 4, where you could play darts and where they had a lounge singer every night.
We stayed at the Our Lucaya which is very comfortable. I would prefer a king size bed to two regular beds but the beds were very comfortable and the rooms are spacious and very well decorated and provide a very nice place to rest when your daytime activities are completed. There are plenty of activities which will meet anyones desires.
This is a great getaway, and I'll definitely plan to do it again.
