Norwegian Epic Cruise Review by ozscotart
- Sail Date: April 2012
- Destination: Western Mediterranean
- Cabin Type: Mid-Ship Inside
Firstly the positives :
Embarkation : extremely efficient at Barcelona, a modern cruise terminal. I would certainly cruise from Barcelona again.
Entertainment : this included the best show I have seen at sea, the Blue Man Group. All the shows and music acts we saw were excellent.
Food : pretty good for such a large ship, simple, (we didn't eat in any of the paid establishments, being on such a short cruise) but good quality dining.
Disembarkation : we did self-disembarkation, again very efficient and no trouble.
Deck areas : if you have good weather (definitely not certain in the Med in April) there seemed to be plenty of deck space on deck 15 and above for sun worshippers. For the kids there was a climbing wall, slides and such like. Pools were small and crowded. And noisy.
pretty well everything else !
Cabins : ours was so small (inside) it didn't even have a separate bathroom, the shower was in one corner, the loo in another and the wash hand basin on the vanity unit. There was a curtain that separated them from the beds, so your room mate wouldn't see you shower, but of course they abutted the entry door so if anyone came to the cabin they would see into the shower (through frosted glass). No chair or sofa.
Noise : it was noisy everywhere : no quiet places to sit at all, no lounge with a view of the sea at all ! The spaces are taken up with areas to separate you from your cash. Horrible.
Unfriendly : the size doesn't encourage any sort of friendliness or courtesy with other passengers, you are essentially in some sort of competition with them for food in the buffet, for lifts, for the few comfy seats in bars, and there are so many people aboard you will never see them again, it was just so unfriendly.
The buffet : like some sort of loathsome cafeteria : very noisy, packed most of the time so very hard to get a seat, and virtually the only inside space with a sea view. Good selection of food, if you can mange to get a seat and get your food and drink to your seat (they don't provide trays either). I did have a very helpful stewardess carry my coffee to my distant seat on one occasion but most of the time I had to make a number of trips to get my breakfast or lunch.
Activities : these were of the bingo variety, there were no port lectures, no lectures of any description, no concerts or plays, the library was a few books, when someone came along to try and borrow there was no one there to assist. It was frankly boring.
