Norwegian Pearl Cruise Review by baywheels
- Sail Date: April 2012
- Destination: Western Caribbean
- Cabin Type: Mid-Ship Balcony
Food and entertainment were definite pluses on the Norwegian Pearl and while we didn't love two of our ports of call most particularly the Norwegian owned, Great Stirrup Cay which looked like a former nuclear testing sight that had been bulldozed into a beach. The ports got better as we went along.
While we thought service in the restaurants was a tad basic we mentioned this to the Hotel Director and there was a massive change in the friendliness and warmth of staff.
Our room steward Cheryl was lovely, couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. Kudos's to the Entertainment director Julie, who managed to mix contemporary entertainment with family fun. But we absolutely loved Harald the head maitre d who went above and beyond to rectify our concerns and was an example of what real service was all about perhaps that's why he has 30 years of service under his belt.
Loved the state of the art gym (disappointed by the detached staff) and it was certainly worth the $120 to access the spa, sauna and steam for the week.
Wouldn't hesitate to go on a Norwegian ship again although the Pearls restaurants looked like they were ready for a refurbishment and please get rid of the plastic flowers.
Our tip is if you are not happy with something don't just put up with it and get off disappointed, you will find staff will make every effort to make it a wonderful experience.
Port & Shore Excursion Reviews
CozumelJumped on a scooter and decided to go round the island, weather was perfect and we had a ball. Three swims in the most beautiful crystal blue water. Stopped at Coconuts for lunch, friendly staff, great food, sensational view and save a pat for Lunar the dog. Jumped on the bike and headed for town, another swim with the locals, a wander round the shops (yes more Diamond Internationals) and then back to the boat. Great Fun.View All 5,718 Cozumel Cruise Port Reviews

Grand CaymanWandered through town, unlike Jamaica you are not accosted. OMG though there are more Diamond International stores (trust us you will be over these stores by the time your trip is finished). Got in a local taxi with June who was a great tour guide, took us to Hell, a rum cake store and the dolphin exhibit (felt very sorry for the dolphins having to lug giant people around). Stopped at a gorgeous beach for a swim. A nice little port.View All 2,845 Grand Cayman Cruise Port Reviews

Great Stirrup CayNot a very pretty island, it looks manufactured and man made. Hundreds of people waiting for food is not a pretty site.View All 827 Great Stirrup Cay Cruise Port Reviews

Ocho RiosWalked through town which was a bit depressing, decided to go to the falls, which we might have thrown ourselves off if it wasn't for the frightening site of hundreds and hundreds of people climbing up them. Cost us $20 to get in and couldn't get out fast enough. Very happy to return to the ship man!!View All 856 Ocho Rios Cruise Port Reviews
