The captain changed the itinerary to avoid rain and stormy weather

I was on the same cruise as "huge world wide traveler" and had an entirely different experience. It was TERRIFIC !! The captain altered the itinerary to avoid rain and stormy weather. Instead of sailing north right away he headed south for 4 of the 12 days. This was an extreme amount of work and resulted in several night sails (for the crew) to travel that far south and then again backtracking ...

This was my 2nd cruise with Island Windjammers. I'll be going on my third in a couple of months. The crew was absolutely amazing, Captain Alexis, Luis, Leah, Romaine, Stephen, Robert, Ponchoo, Frederick, Lennox and last but by no means least, Steelo! Getting to know your crew the way you can on Island Windjammer ships is a unique and brilliant opportunity. The passengers were the nicest group ...

Unforgettable Barefoot Sail

Review for a Caribbean - Southern Cruise on Vela

It has been a many-decades long dream of mine to sail the Caribbean. I never quite got around to it when I was young enough to captain my own sailboat. As we are all aware, such fantasies are rarely matched by the reality of the eventual trip. So as a 70 year old, reasonably fit traveler, off I went, and I can report that this trip, in all ways, exceeded my long help tropical sail dream. ...

A casual cruise with crew that made you feel at home.

A casual cruise experience with a small crew and passenger count. Our ship was 24 passenger with 9 crew. All the crew was very interactive with the passengers and made you feel completely comfortable. The food was incredible - fresh fish and produce bought at the local island markets. All crew were very knowledgeable and were happy to interact and answer questions. The small ship gave a very ...

This was perfect for our family. The grandsons were totally all about using the rope swing off the side of the ship, paddle boarding, snorkeling, kayaking, night time swimming with the underwater lights, visiting different islands, and just having fun. They felt comfortable with the crew, interacting with them, and loved the popcorn machine. Since they were so involved, the adults, could ...

This was our third trip on the Diamant and our first with our two 14 year old girls. We have had nothing but unbelievable trips with Island Windjammers but we were a bit nervous with our girls since there isn’t a lot to do while sailing. Our anxiety disappeared even before we left port. All of the crew and our shipmates (another family of 5 with older children) made the trip unforgettable for our ...

Wonderful ship, amazing staff, new friends!

For my 60th birthday I decided I would go on a trip I had always wanted to try - I decided one week before that birthday and the support staff of IW could not have been more helpful. The trip itself was just truly amazing - the ship is a perfect size - we had 16 guests and yet it felt at times you were all alone and then there were times when you had many new friends. The cabins were small as ...

Our 10th anniversary was coming up. We didn't want to sit on a beach because we live near one. We didn't want to visit a floating city either, but we wanted to see the Caribbean. I remember the Barefoot Cruise days that I dreamed about doing. A quick internet search took me to Island Windjammers. I was sold and so was my hubby. We've just arrived home yesterday from the excursion of a ...

An adventure I will never forget

Review for a Caribbean - Eastern Cruise on Vela

We chose the cruise because of the more intimate nature of a smaller ship. The Vela is a beautiful sailing ship and is approximately 156 feet long. We were able to access ports that larger ships could not. Chef Lenny prepared excellent meals and the service on board was outstanding. Chef Lenny took particular pride in going to local markets to provide the freshest fish, fruits and vegetables for ...
