We took a 14 day Singapore to Singapore on the Volendam in March. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves. Other than the shuttle bus to town on Langkawi Island, we didn't take any ship's shore excursions. We are active cruisers and have enjoyed many trips on HAL! This was not the HAL we knew and loved.
First, the cutbacks are very obvious: from the food to the tissues, fewer staff, lecturers and quality entertainers. But, more dramatic was the huge number of passengers who refused to wear appropriate dress for the evening/venue and the staff's refusal to do anything about it.
