Interesting ports to visit. This was my husband and mine first Mediterranian cruise. Excellent, and service all over the ship. The included 3-course dinner was better than we anticipated and personal and fantastic service from our waiter Sardika ⭐️ We had the Premium drinking package, which we recommend. The lifts midship were not working too well, a LOT of waiting. A great variety in breakfast, both hot and cold dishes. A minus for the charges for adventures, for example ten euros for one ride with zipline. An even bigger minus was that smoking was allowed in so many places, including by the pool. The cabin beds were very comfortable. And our cabinstewardess Anna were amazing! Great coffee everywhere. The only place to get a good Beer is in Sports Bar, i.e IPA. The shows onboard were a disapointment, a bit boring although the dancers all were professional. Overall, my husband and I really recommend a cruise onboard this amazing ship. Read Less

We were a family of four traveling for our first Mediterranean cruise with two teenagers. We have taken multiple cruises before on Princess, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian and Carnival, so we thought we would give the relatively new MSC Seaview a try. The price for our family was certainly enticing. In short, here is how we would grade our experience: Price: A Room size and cleanliness: A Food quality: D Entertainment quality: C Itinerary and Time at each port: B If you are looking for a cruise vacation, this is probably not it. If you are looking for a comfortable hotel room and transportation from point A to point B, this cruise would serve you fine. Let be begin with the good. We had a balcony cabin on the 10th floor of the port side. The balcony was great given the weather. We enjoyed sitting on it and watching the sights in and out of the ports. It also gave us extra room which was out of the way while others in our family were getting dressed. The cabin had a queen size bed and a sofa that converted into bunk beds rather than a pull out bed. The bunk beds were a lifesaver with two teenagers and avoided many arguments and complaints. The room was spacious for a cruise ship as was the bathroom and shower. The bathroom had fantastic water pressure which was a great surprise. Our room steward did a great job keeping us supplied with fresh towels and working around our time in the room. The room TV had plenty of stations with maybe 6-7 in each language. However, even the American programming in other languages did not have subtitle capabilities which would have been nice. The English language selections were all 24 hour news stations which included CNN, CNBC and 3-4 European news stations. It is hard to relax and unwind to that before bed. The common area was a bit plain but nice. The elevators utilized a system that directed you to a specific elevator based upon destination. It is meant to speed things up but always resulted in long waits at the elevators. So we ended up going up and down countless flights of stairs each day. The cruise was truly international with what seemed to be a passenger population made up of those speaking Italian, French, Russian, various Asian languages, English, German and Spanish. The staff did a great job being multi lingual, making announcements and communicating fluently in each of those languages. That was impressive. The entertainment encompassed all of those languages which was great. But the shows etc. on board could best be described as “low energy.” If you are doing a Tina Turner tribute show, having dancers and singers dragging through the show with a slow tempo and little smiling just seemed like they were going through the paces. Definitely not Tina Turner like. The other periodic entertainment was excessively campy and seemed like a continual loop of the Gong Show or Sabado Gigante. On our last night, we found a duo playing piano and drums singing in a lounge, and they alternated performance sets with a solo guitarist/vocalist. Both were really good and better than the more featured acts on the ship. I wish we had discovered them earlier... We also walked through a very small casino that was on board. It seemed very sparse and small. It did not have any craps tables which was a first for me in a casino. The cruise itinerary was good and generally allowed sufficient time in each port. There were no dedicated days at sea on this itinerary for which we were grateful. However, at Palma, Mallorca and Barcelona, Spain, the cruise ports were outside of the city so you were forced to take a taxi or a ship provided shuttle at an extra cost to go into the city. If the cruise line chooses to utilize these ports outside of the destination city, then they should provide transportation into the port city without nickel and diming their passengers for the costs of transportation on the cruise line’s shuttles into the city. My biggest concern about this cruise was the food quality. It was terrible. I tried to be very open minded given the multinational nature of the cruise but nothing I had of any cuisine was good. All of the food was edible but not good. The food was often cold and bland. We tried both the sit down dining option and the marketplace buffet. Those were the only options at night unless you paid for the three premium restaurant options which we did not. The same food, the same quality and the same temperature seemed to be served at both venues. The only difference is that the sit down dining had more limited options, and we had slow service with a lot of waiting with a waiter who did not even seem to understand her own menu. For those of you that love Pepsi, you are in luck as all of the soft drinks on board are Pepsi products. For those of us that don’t, there was always beer. In the dining room we were charged for still water. In the marketplace buffet, we were not charged for still water but they only had 1 working water dispenser for all of the passengers. The plastic cups for your water were limited to 6 ounce cups. It is hard to stay hydrated at that rate. The coffee on the cruise was generally above average. Most of the time we paid for premium coffee at the bars which was worth it to us coffee drinkers. The best we found was that made by “Don” at the Venchi Chocolate and Coffee Bar. It was great and worth the extra charge. Finally, the dining themes were ridiculous. Each night was a different theme in name only. The actual theme seemed to be “Sunday night clean out the household refrigerator”. The dishes were a hodge-podge of whatever seemed to be laying around. For example, the Bavarian theme night was the everyday items plus the addition of a roast pork loin and a cold potato salad. That made it Bavarian night. Nothing else Bavarian was served. On Mexican night, the usual items were supplemented by some puréed avocado and some very julienned pieces of beef mixed with julienned strips of peppers. They called that beef fajitas. That was the sum total of what made it Mexican night. I will give the ship credit that their breads and croissants were made well and tasty. But unfortunately my scale is going to reflect that I lived on mostly bread and coffee while onboard. The part that I find most interesting is that for an Italian cruise line, based in the Mediterranean with multinational passengers, the Italian dishes were the worst offerings. The pizza was bland, soggy and doughy; the pasta was over cooked and soaked in bland tomato or a watery white sauce; and the deserts were basic, unimaginative and tasteless. We could not wait to get off the ship each day to eat at a street vendor, market or restaurant. We were never disappointed with any of the food we found on land. In summary, if you are looking for a comfortable place to sleep and transportation from point A to point B, this cruise will serve you well. If you are looking for the whole cruise experience to include great food and entertainment, look elsewhere. Read Less

We sailed on the Seaview out of Barcelona on 1 June 2019 for 7 nights. We were a party of 3 - Me, my wife (both 36) and our 4 year old daughter. My wife and I had cruised before (one Princess to Caribbean and one Celebrity to Central America) but both were pre-child. Prior to the cruise I read the mixed reviews and was a little apprehensive, but thankfully had a very enjoyable cruise. Embarkation was very smooth. We boarded in Barcelona. Our ticket had an embarkation time if 2.30pm, but we turned up at about 11.30am and it was no bother. We stayed in a Fantastica balcony cabin which had a Queen size bed, and the sofa had been converted into a single bed. I ended up in the single bed due to 4 year old 'sleeping issues' but it was actually very comfortable, as was the Queen sized bed according to my wife! The cabin was well laid out, and still had that 'shiny and new' feel to it. The wardrobe space was a bit limited but we got by. My review is limited to the extent that we were in bed most nights by 10pm due to the little one being an early riser, so I am not able to comment on the 'parties' (flower party, white party, space party etc) as these started at 11.30pm. This is in keeping with being a European cruiseline; most things are done later in the evening. In the evenings, we at in the MDR 4 nights, the Pan Asian specialty dining on 1 night, and the buffet on 2 nights (just due to activities earlier in the day). I found the food on the while to be good. The buffet was varied and plentiful. It was only very busy in Rome at breakfast time, when lots of people were leaving the ship early for an excursion or to disembark. The MDR was better than buffet, and I had no complaints at all. Our waiter Suryer was very friendly, and the area supervisor Alex introduced himself to us, and was happy to discuss any issues we had. The quality of the food was not as good as Celebrity, but we were in Aqua class so no wonder to be honest. In my view, the dining experience in the MDR was perfectly acceptable and we looked forward to heading there each evening. Anytime Dining does exist, but only for Aurea and above grades of experience. If you don't have anytime dining, then the dining times are 6pm, 8pm, or 10pm. I did not experience any surly or rude staff that seems to be a repeating theme on some of the negative reviews. In fact, quite the opposite. Many staff made a fuss of my daughter which was very nice. We did not have a drinks package, and just ordered the drinks we wanted to have here and there. Each day, there was a hour of 2 for 1 cocktails in the Wine and Cocktail lounge (normally 5.30pm to 6.30pm), which was great because our dining time was 6pm. The Pan Asian specialty restaurant was delicious. We had a 'dinner and bubbles' package which included 3 courses for 2 adults, and a bottle of Nicolas Feuillatte Reserve champagne for €115. It was a little overpriced on reflection, and I probably would not do it again (the food alone was €39 a person ordering from a set menu). As for entertainment, the evening shows were amazing! We went to 6 of the shows. It's fair to say that the shows each followed a similar theme of singing, dancing, and circus type acts, but they were all very entertaining and had a large production value. The singers were seriously good too. We only went to one of the kids club acts, which was junior MasterChef. The kids club area was large but we were off the ship every day so didn't use it a great deal. In addition, there was a limited proportion of English speaking children on the cruise, and the staff have to communicate in 5 languages which can be difficult for a 4 year old to follow. This is no criticism, it's just something that has to be done on a European cruise. You get used to all public announcements being made 4/5 times (Italian, English, Spanish, German, Portuguese). I would say that English first-language guests account for about 10% of passengers. Fine for me, but if you are a cruiser that likes to strike up conversation with new people then opportunities will be few and far between (unless you can speak other languages of course). As with anything, there are some things that MSC could/should try and do better. The kids splash park is great fun, but there is nowhere around that pool for adults to sit to observe their children. This means children are either unaccompanied, or the adults have to go in too. This could be better designed. Also, the other pools are all 6 feet deep so children cannot use them unless they have floating aids. For a 'family focussed' cruiseline it is not well designed. There does seem to be a real push for upselling on the cruise, and this can grate at times. There are frequently staff seeking to sell specialty dining, lots of photos (although we still bought 10!) Even a one litre plastic bottle of water in the MDR is €3, which is a con. Drinks are overpriced too. These are relatively minor criticisms but could be addressed by MSC for a better cruise experience. Would I cruise with MSC again? Yes, but I would not sail with my child until they are about 10/11, and can appreciate different languages and follow staff going in and out of English. Booked a weeks cruise on the MSC Seaview June 1st -8th around the Mediterranean. We had travelled on MSC as a family of two adults and two children (10, 7) ten years ago and adored it. This time, it was myself and my now 20 year old daughter as a girls treat. Embarkation - Arrived at the Barcelona cruise terminal late morning, embarkation was extremely quick, efficient and we were on board within around twenty minutes of arrival. We had to run the gauntlet of staff trying hard to sell speciality dining and drinks packages on the way in, did not like this, but not sure if this is the same on every cruise. Cabins were not available until 2:30, but a (very) welcome buffet was ready at 12 noon. We did have an all inclusive drinks package, and made use of this while waiting for the cabin, and also spent some time exploring the ship. Ship- Whatever critics may say about MSC, they all agree that the ships are stunning, and the Seaview is no exception. The crystal staircases are a constant photo opportunity, the huge atrium with multiple stages, the light, seating areas, cafes, pools it is all designed beautifully. Not once did we fail to find a seat where we wanted, even beside the pools. Other than a few very rare occasions, we would never have known just how many thousands of people were on the ship because it rarely felt crowded. Cabin - 13126 mid ship balcony cabin on Ionian Sea deck. My daughter is a bit superstitious but 13 is not considered unlucky in Italy, it is the number 17, so there is no deck 17. The cabin was lovely. Lots of storage, great lighting, USB sockets, and a proper shower cubicle. It felt very spacious for two of us, and had a massive sofa. Dining - This is the only issue we had, and unfortunately it is a big deal. As we often holiday in Italy and love the time spent enjoying lovely food, it was a major disappointment to be rushed through dinner in around 90 minutes as there are now 3 settings as opposed to the previous 2. Its a 2 hour window but by the time you are seated and served then they start clearing up for the next sitting, that cuts back the two hours considerably. Dinner also used to be Italian style with lots of smaller courses, this is now 3 courses of very mediocre food. I never have dessert as am always full by then, but in the MDR I was having pudding and then heading up to the midnight buffet as was always hungry after dinner. We spent some nights at the buffet restaurants which were good, but not brilliant and very repetitive, but at least we never left hungry and could take as long as we liked. Breakfast was excellent however, with a wide choice of food and the coffee was really good. We used one of the speciality restaurants midweek, the Teppanyaki, and it was outstanding, though at a cost of 70 euros extra. Our MDR table companions used the Butchers Cut steakhouse, and also said it was fabulous if expensive. Entertainment - lots of live music in bars, all really good, There were a number of party nights (including a White Party) in the atrium which were great fun, with all ages up dancing til the small hours .The entertainment crew were fantastic, encouraging a great atmosphere whatever they were doing. We attended two of the shows and were absolutely blown away. Both nights the audience were on their feet in appreciation. Spa - I bought a Thermal Area spa pass before cruising, which was £82 as opposed to £140 if I bought in on board. This gave me access to the spa area for the duration of the cruise and I loved it. The spa had various saunas, steam baths, special showers and other facilities, including two hot tubs out on the deck for sole use of spa guests. As we didnt go off the boat every day I was often in when it was really quiet and always had the hot tub to myself! I also booked two massages as another treat which were amazing, though admittedly really expensive, although I had a substantial discount on the second. Service - outstanding. All the staff we came across were very pleasant and helpful, with some going above and beyond to make it a great experience. One bar waitress never smiled, clearly loathed cruise customers, so we made it our mission to get a laugh out of her by the end of the week, and my daughter managed it our last night. There is currently some debate about MSC and service charges. I was told it was mandatory by the TA and this is also on the MSC website. I paid ours on board at the cost of 140 euros for both of us. Others were saying it is not mandatory and I should ask for it back and just tip whoever I wanted. I left it on this occasion as I wasn't sure but will need to investigate further. Ports - really good, straightforward and popular. Liked being in port every day as don't like 'at sea' days. Excursions - I can't really comment as I we didn't take any, other than a shuttle transfer into Palma. This was really well organised and cost 25 euros for both. I hadn't done my research on Palma and we found out later that a taxi would have been 10 euros each way, and the local bus stops right at the port and goes into the town at a cost of 1'50 euros! So as with many excursions it was way overpriced. If you want to play it very safe then maybe the extra cost is worth it. We did our own thing on the other days ashore for a fraction of the MSC price. Bars - we had an all inclusive drinks package and I kept a running total of what we were using to work out if it would be worth it next time. It worked out as good value as we had a lot of cocktails, but that was 3/4 a day plus water, soft drinks and coffee. Any less and it would not have been worthwhile. By all accounts everyone I spoke to thought the drinks package compared really favourably with other cruise lines. Other factors - didn't have small children but they looked really well catered for, including the children's splash pool and adventure course. Internet access was ridiculously expensive (£70 weekly for 2.5 MB), my daughter bought this as clearly a 20 year old would wither and die without access to social media 24 hours a day. As data roaming in Europe is included with most phone agreements and there was no issue connecting anywhere we were moored, I thought this would be enough. Apparently not! Brits were very much a small minority on board, which was not an issue for us, but some of our fellow Brit passengers didn't like this. More than one commented on the number of 'foreigners' on board, which we found bemusing as this was an Italian cruise line with the main embarkation in Barcelona! MSC cruises are not designed for British customers. People don't queue, they come in the lift when you are trying to get out, many of the staff speak a few different languages but have limited English. and the main chatter is Italian and Spanish. Overall, an amazing experience let down by poor dining. Not sure if I would book again unless the dining experience changes because to me that was a deal breaker. Read Less

Our experience aboard MSC Seaview was generally very positive and we have excellent memories. However, there were some things we felt fell short. I’ll give you the good and the disappointing bit keep in mind we had a wonderful time. We are experienced American cruisers ha omg been on about 15 Caribbean cruises. We have been to Europe a few times but this was our first cruise. We also brought our 18 year old son and his best friend. We chose the Seaview because it was new, looked interesting and a very good value. Reading reviews here we lowered expectations a little and prepared for some issues. General experience: The ship is gorgeous all around. The vibe is energetic and a bit of a party ship. Maybe it’s the nature of Europeans but it is a late night ship. People are out and about until very late, which we like. Eating late, dancing, packing the 10:30 show...it’s a fun place to be. Service and interactions with staff were friendly and efficient. Typical of any cruise line. Americans must be aware that this is not an American cruise. Because we are not as familiar with MSC you don’t find many fellow Americans. While English is spoken by all of the staff there are heavy accents and it’s not the only language of the ship. We expected this and had no issue with it. Communicating is easy on and off the ship. Itinerary: Extraordinary. Cannes. Such charming street cafes and shops. Walk along the endless 100’-200’ yachts and be amazed. Palma de Mallorca. Toured the former palace of the King of Spain and liked that as well as the enormous adjacent basilica. So many beautiful buildings, such character. Cabin: We had a typical balcony stateroom for us and an inside cabin for the boys. Room was neat and comfortable. However we found the storage lacking. Virtually no shelves and few drawers. Not a big deal. Barcelona. We bikes here and it is a very very busy city. Lots of traffic and pedestrians. It’s a clean city with much to see Loved it. Ajaccio. Liked this stop even though it was quiet as it was a Sunday. Most of the businesses were closed. But we had a nice lunch and walked the city and enjoyed it. Genoa. Heard this wasn’t much to see. How very very wrong. Some of our most memorable moments were waking this gem of a city. We walked a long long way that day but found so many fun places to see, climb and photograph. The character of the buildings was extraordinary. Had a wonderful lunch at a street cafe. La Spezia. Took the boat cruise to 3 adjacent tiny towns built along the mountain side shores. OMG were these extraordinary stops! We just stood there and marveled. Do this one. Dining: As many reviewers have stated the main dining experience is not on the level of other lines. Temperatures were inconsistent, food was of average quality at best and despite their best efforts we were constantly trading plates across the table after being served the wrong plates. We just laughed at that. Our servers were nice and everything was just fine, but don’t expect much here. We found the buffet fine for breakfast. Good eggs, lots of breads and fruits. Plenty of seating. Breakfast is hard to mess up. We don’t go to the buffet beyond that typically. We did purchase the 3 meal special restaurant package for the four of us. We did so because reviews indicated that the dining room was inconsistent. We were glad we did this. It’s a little expensive but the service and food is much better here. Two disappointments however. The package limits you to a certain section of the menu. If you want anything else you have to pay more. We had paid enough. But what we did have was good quality. Maybe not great, but good. The other downer was that there were very few other diners and it made for a quiet ambience. Would we do this again? Yes. Embarkation and debarkation were simple and quick. This trip was different in that fellow cruisers could begin and end their trip anywhere along the cruise so there were not massive crowds at one location. Entertainment. Go to the theater shows. Do it. These were definitely the best shows we have ever scene aboard ship and it’s not close. The talent was strong and deep. The signers were excellent and the dancers and acrobats were marvelous. The crowd was clapping and stamping and one show we gave a standing O. 10 of 10 here. Drink package. Hmmm. A little frustrating. We paid for a package last summer but by the time we boarded things and changed and what we ended up with was pretty low end. The cheapest wine and just Heineken for beer which I don’t like. However...one must make friends. We made a good friend in one of the bartenders and by the second night we were getting better wines, call brands and beers of choice with a wink and a nod. This man was tipped handsomely. But away from that bar we had to feel like cheapskates getting the low end stuff or had to pay for better. Coffee. This gets its own section because it was a frustration. It was there at breakfast but otherwise a little hard to find. Late afternoon they would sometimes be out. And if you wanted coffee with desert, well, they looked at you like you had 2 heads. And late night pizza and coffee? Well you get the pizza. Excursions. We did 2. We did a bike tour in Barcelona with the wonderful Maria and a 3 stop boat tour of Cinca Terre in Le Spezia. Both were winners, I’d suggest both. Both had challenges. If you get seasick you may want to be prepared for Cinca Terre. And the bike tour had my wife a bit nervous as you are in a lot of auto and walking traffic. But the sites were terrific. Worst experience of the cruise. WiFi packages. This is a straight up, out in the open rip off. I had a 500mb plan which should be plenty. The fact is if I used it as I do at home I’d burn that up in 2 days or less aboard ship the way MSC runs things. And when you are done you have to manually turn it off or it still runs even if you have shut the web down. I burned up 2200mb overnight when I didn’t turn it off and no sites were running and had auto updates turned off. I burn no AT&T data overnight at home, what’s burning while I sleep on the ship? I asked for relief and got 500mb. Screw job. My wife had the unlimited for 139.00 and it worked well but that’s a helluva a lot of money. Guest Services. Even in the case of the WiFi complaint the staff there was great. They were well staffed and well trained. I had 3 occasions I had to interact with them and all were handled efficiently. Fellow reviewers. I think people are a bit harsh on these pages. We had a helluva time. If you expect a ship trying to handle 5000 guests to be a 5 Star dining experience then you will be disappointed. We had some things we kindve laughed about, like coffee being like warm or the meat over cooked but we did not experience rage. We are on a Med cruise! Life is good. We would sail Seaview again. We have been loyal NCL cruisers for years and decided to try MSC for a 20th anniversary cruise. We had never been in the Med, and booked a Yacht Club balcony cabin. The ship was BEAUTIFUL, the service was excellent. I loved that you were never presented with a bill or a receipt to sign for drinks etc when we were in the Yacht Club. All of the staff really seemed to go out of their way to make sure we had an amazing experience. Although I wanted to try the main dining rooms, I couldn't break away from the Yacht club and having all the staff know who we were. We ate breakfast a few times in the Yacht Club dining room, but we mostly had continental breakfast in the lounge; the daily snacks there were delightful. I also loved the tranquility of the lounge and pool area. We ate lunch twice at the pool size buffett and the Yacht Club manager--Alex (i.e. like the Hotel Manager but for the Yacht Club) was there and practically waited on us. He was like a dear friend acting as a host! The food on the ship has a heavy European / Continental influence and we are Americans. This was not an issue for us--there was always something we liked--but that may be an issue with some travelers. As an oenophile, the wines by the glass were a bit limited--especially if you prefer California wines, but all the liquor was top shelf, and I enjoyed trying a few new European beers. Honestly, I really liked the vibe of the ship and the travelers we met on board. We booked a Caribbean cruise for the fall of 2020 and will take our kids next time--the family pool, kids club, and zip lining looked awesome!! See you soon, MSC!!! Read Less

I have only been on one other cruise, that was Carnival, so that is the only comparison I have. First, the good thing... The entertainment was great. The people in the show do a wonderful job. Most of the staff are nice enough. The ship is clean and beautiful. There are many nice pools and hot tubs, so they were not crowded (yet they close them all down early which is irritating). The bed was comfortable and the room quiet. The food in the buffet was just okay (deserts were good), better than Carnival, but the food in the dining room was much worse than carnival. And now I move on to the bad things... Eating in the dining room on Carnival was a great experience we looked forward to every night, but on MSC it felt like a punishment. Usually the food was not good and the waiters also made us feel uncomfortable and unwanted. They do not have "anytime dining" like other ships, you have to pick 6 PM, 8 PM or 10 PM. They kick you out after an hour or so to get ready for the next crowd. They are always rushing around in a hurry yet take forever to bring the food. We waited an hour for our first course one time, then had 15 minutes to eat the rest and get out. It is loud and there is constant banging from the dumbwaiter bringing down food. We asked to be switched to a different time and got a better waiter and location after the switch. I cannot believe they charge you for water in the dining room! Water was free on Carnival. Which is my next complaint, they are constantly after more money. They pester you all the time to buy the drink and food packages. The drink package would have cost $700 for the two of us ($40 a day). If you're drinking $700 in alcohol in one week you have a problem. We spent $80 on drinks, that's it. The food package would have cost around $260 for 3 meals for the two of us. That's seems high for mediocre food. The worst experience by far were the excursions! DO NOT book a tour. Have them bus you and walk around on your own. The tour company they use in Italy is a nightmare! We were not given all the things promised in Pisa and Rome. In Rome they lost an elderly man and left him there. Don't know if he ever made it back to the ship. I did not listen to the tour guides speak, they are hard to understand. Our English speaking guide hardly said anything anyway. The guides have deals with shops to take you there so you will buy things, like the "Pearl Factory" they said we needed a ticket to get into. It was a jewelry store! Nothing more, and it is free to go in. They wasted my time with this stuff. I felt very ripped off over the excursions. The internet was poor, and we had a router right outside our room. The zip-line cost $12 a person and is boring. It should be free! The constant up-selling is just a nightmare. This was our first cruise with MSC and we have previously sailed on over 20 cruises with various cruise lines (Princess, Carnival, NCL, Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, Holland America and Oceania). We booked 2 Yacht Club deluxe cabins as my husband and I travelled with his son and daughter (ages 30 and 34). We chose Yacht Club because we wanted to have the privacy and personalized experience of a small ship but still have access to all of the amenities and activities of a larger ship. Pros: Embarkation in Barcelona was smooth. We were escorted by our butler to the Yacht Club lounge. The registration process was very fast and we were escorted to our cabins within 30 minutes. Luggage was delivered immediately. The cabin was beautiful, immaculate, spacious and had plenty of storage. Balcony was large as was the bathroom. Service was very good and staff was friendly but it was not better than what we received on other lines. Yacht Club lounge and dining room are bright with fantastic views as it is located at the front of the ship. The food was average to good but not excellent. I will not compare it to Oceania because they excel in their cuisine however, it was on par with MDR of other lines. If you enjoy fish and seafood, there are plenty of options on the menu daily. We did not try the Yacht Club buffet on deck due to the weather. It was either too cold, windy or raining. The upper deck doesn’t have an enclosed area. We tried the buffets on decks 8 and 16 for a couple of lunches but the food was average to below average in quality. Pizzas are very good. Unfortunately, some passengers aren’t hygienic and were grabbing food with their hands. This is where Holland America and Oceania excel because staff serve the food to passengers at their buffet restaurants to avoid this situation. Entertainment was excellent. We attended all shows and they were of professional quality as well as the entertainers in various lounges. Cons: We purchased 2 shore excursions with MSC in Cinque Terre and in Rome. This is where things didn’t go well. Cinque Terre: We were 45 minutes delayed in leaving for reasons unknown. First stop was a 45 minute stop in Portovenere which was beautiful and then we boarded a ferry to the Cinque Terre. The tour only included a stop in Monterosso however, the ferry service was not direct and therefore, we only had 1 hour to see the town . This was very disappointing because after spending most of the day travelling to get there, we had little time to visit. Rome: The ship was delayed by 2 hours docking in Rome which meant that this impacted the tour. The description of the Grand Tour of Rome is deceptive. Our son and daughter said that they only spent 30 minutes at the Colleseum and didn’t have free time to see St. Peter’s Basilica. They were rushed through most points of interest and were asked to sign a waiver as the tour didn’t have time to go to the Trevi Fountain. Basically, they should have purchased tickets for the hop on hop off bus for a cheaper cost and they may have seen more on their own. The ship stayed in port longer to make up for the delayed arrival therefore, we couldn’t understand why this tour was so rushed. We raised our concerns about both tours with the Yacht Club Concierge and it appeared that they were understanding and stated they would raise the matter with the shore excursions desk. We had asked for a partial credit. The concierge suggested we speak with the shore excursions manager as they were unable to resolve the matter. This is where things declined for us. The assistant manager with shore excursions was very rude and argumentative with us. This resulted in us losing our temper as we were unable to resolve the issue in a calm and respectful manner. In all of our years of cruising, we have never had an employee speak to us in such a rude manner. We walked away and when we walked passed the concierge staff in Yacht Club, everyone avoided eye contact with us. This remained the situation until the last day of our cruise. Bottom Line: in our opinion Yacht Club wasn’t worth the extra cost we paid in comparison to a mid luxury line such as Oceania and we had better food and service on Holland America last year on the Nieuw Amsterdam at an average cost. I was very nervous about cruising with MSC. I had cruised the Med with Norwegian 4 years ago and loved it but this time we were taking our 3 adult children and one son-in-law and I had been reading mixed reviews. My chiropractor here in Atlanta cruises with MSC and RC a couple of times a year and she was the one who recommended MSC. All 6 of us loved this ship and would travel with MSC again. The ship is absolutely gorgeous! We had 3 cabins. One with a balcony and 2 with just windows. The rooms are very spacious as far as cabins go. The embarkation and disembarkation were a breeze. We spent several days in Rome and got on the ship in Civitavecchia. The staff was wonderful. We had 4 adults ranging in age from 24-29 and they had a blast on the ship and attended many of the parties. We all saw several shows and they were great as well. The buffets were very good. If I had to give any negative it would be the food in the dining room. The entrees were just not cooked the way I am used to eating them. I hesitate to say it was bad because we had similar issues in Rome and France. Their seafood is just cooked/seasoned differently. That having been said, every night the buffet had a "thematic experience" and we went to bed stuffed, so there is plenty of good food on the ship! I would not do the specialty restaurants again. The prepaid packages for the specialty restaurants did not allow you to order anything no the menu and I thought this was a little tacky. Again, I was there for the sightseeing, not the food (and we were able to find really good food every night in the buffets). My daughter and son in law said the gym was superb. The ship is very "hi tech" with touchscreens everywhere to get an elevator or book a show. I don't think you will find a better value than MSC and I am already looking to book my next trip with them! The entertainment on the ship is laughable,the shows in theater are just repeating themselves,the shows out in the Atrium are the exact same,different costumes but same head melting dance music! The food is buffet was okay but the system is ridiculous,no lines or queues and people just barging,hated it! Superb embarkation at Barcelona straight onto the ship, this ship like other newer MSC ships is fantastic it has a great feel to it & instantly relaxing. It started badly though due to rough weather we didn’t sail for Ajaccio and spent the night in Barcelona for me the right decision made However the ship during this weather where everyone had to stop inside was a little bit busy but ok when sunny the ship feels empty with 5000 people on board even late at night there are always seats available somewhere and we usually sat at a bar before moving on to the next etc. The bars were excellent with a couple of standout ones that became favourites snacks were given out and depending on which bar gave different snacks ie nachos & dips in sports bar. The entertainment was usual MSC this time there seamed to be a emphasis on jazz which isn’t my favourite kind of music but hey ho ....... there’s plenty of bars. The shows were again MSC singers, acrobats, dancers making a 1/2 hour show theme being greatest showman to be honest the whole week was brilliant & highly entertaining perhaps I’m getting old, I could have easily watched the shows twice. Food wise it was a step up from the usual fare on MSC fro the other 4 cruises with them it was better in the main dining rooms & the buffets the specialty restaurants we only did the pan Asian was amazing & certainly worth paying for we was going to go to butchers cut but I instead had a huge t bone steak in dining room for €20 with a glass of red!! Our cabin again very clean, tidy & decent size was a Seaview at the front of the ship No5038 it was well looked after by the maid I only seen her in the corridor to say hello but she did say if there was anything let her know and she will get it for us I don’t think you can ask anymore than that! Staff gave misinformation all the time, on one occasion, because of desinformation, we had to go theough multiple queues and run around the ship for 90 mins to rent a stroller! The opening hours of the kids club were nonsense and hectic, not plannable! Weird that parents did not have access and insight to the room where we were supposed to leave our kids. Also it was seriously understaffed, there was mayhem and queing all the time. Consequently staff was overwhealmed and RUDE, exacerbated by poor English skills. The ship is nice but totally not child friedly. The buffet restaurants were way too crowded, understaffed and running under capacity, resulting in extremely bad dining experience. Food in the restaurants was variable quality, so not impressed at all. Wines we ordered were repeatedly and constantly out of stock. Bars were understaffed hence service was extremely slow and cumbersome. Despite we had Aurea and all incusive, we ran around thirsty all the time because of the slow service (had to wait up to 30 mins for a coffee etc) Our whole family was very disappointed and we definitely don't plan to come back to any of the MSC ships. Good and Bads: Good: *Ship looks very nice and clean, staffs were friendly *Able to book shows easily, shows are great but some acts are repeated. *Pools and hot tubes are not very crowed especially the kids area. *Kid's water park is great. Bads: *Buffet is terrible and your only choice if you don't want to sit and wait for your food. Breakfast is nice with the usual everyday (same stuff daily). Bacon, eggs, pastry, fruit, milk, tea, coffee, and juice. Juice is only available for breakfast (should be all day long). Youtube information is not correct. Coffee is diner style, water down and tasteless. *Main dinning food is also not very good. Most of the dishes are just like buffet food. You have to pay for plain water. The only thing good is you can have ice cream for desert. If you have time and wait to be serve, it's okay. For my children, they just want to eat the ice cream and go swimming. *Food is terrible unless you pay for it by going to a paying restaurant or paying for coffee. Free stuff which is included with your stay is below par compare to other ships. They are so cheap that only half a slice of cheese is on a cheese burger. Pizza is good, but full of dough like Papa Johns but with virtually no meat of cheese. Kiwi fruit are small and sour. What's the point of having things that no body will eat. They cut the watermelon and leave it in the fridge and won't put it out until late night with there are less people. Cheap food, no shrimp or steak. Everyday is chicken that's well done and dry. Same food everyday, burger, pizza, fries, pasta, and hot dog that looks like it cost them 10 cents to make. *Children program are terrible too. They advertise many things to do like Lego and video games. However, it's all on a schedule. One hour of Lego, if you miss it, you have to wait for the next Lego time. It's more of babysitting than fun. Don't pay for it, save the money and just buy a set of Lego for them. *Water slide, table tennis, and hockey table are run terribly. You have to ask the staff for everything. There is no sign of what to do and where to go. To do the water slide, you have to sign a wavier at the paying center. To get the ball for the hockey table you have to get it from the water slide registration center. We ask the staff and they either don't know or can't communicate well. *Communication is not done well. Elegant night were not promoted well. You have to read the daily news and states elegant photo with the crew staff. No photo taken at dining room. I guess they knew the food is not that good. Overall, it's a below par ship experience. Many youtuber stated that buffet is terrible and it is with the same cheap food everyday. They don't want to make it good, otherwise the restaurant will be empty. Expect to pay for good food or eat like your in a US public school. Entertainment and children's free Aqua Park is very good. Everything else not so. Definitely won't pick MSC again unless it's hundreds of dollar cheaper. Use the hundreds to buy better food and drink. Maybe the MSC Yacht Club is worth it. Hi everybody, First, sorry for my english. I hope it'll be understandable. To make it easy i will highlight some importants points. Embarkation was good, faster than on my first MSC Poesia cruise. Ship is new but its qualities are like "Made in China" ship. The cabin was good, but always cold. I put the hot air at maximum with very poor results, but that was the same thing in all the ship emplacements. You have to wear a jacket or a sweater everywhere in the ship to keep your body temperature. The food was always the same, and the quality is average-low. There is only free water in the buffet restaurants, and you have to pay a 15% tax in all drinks apart from the tips of 70€ per adult and 35€ for kids. If you choose the restaurant included diner there's no free water and you have to pay for all drinks. They charged us 34.95€ for the welcome photo and we never received it and never claimed neither. We have to go to the photo shop to cancel the charge. Spectacles in the theater were awful and usually amateur singers, but that's my personal opinion. Captain invited us to a cocktail for the clients of two or more MSC cruises that consisted in a bunch of chips and nuts and a cup of extra sugary fruit juice (same that in breakfast) and a cup of cheap cider. No animation, no special show, only captain toasting for 1 minute and ciao bambino. The service was poor in general. They forget to clean our room one day, and we called several times to reception with no answer, and so on. Finally i do not recommend this cruise, but is my opinion and my experience. We were cruising with family and had booked 8 cabins at the Yacht Club. Overall, the experience was very dissapointing mainly due to the low level of restaurants and bars, as well as the service at those and the public areas. The positive part was the cabins which are very spacious and well decorated. Also,housekeeping did an overall great job. At the Yacht Club lounge and restaurant the quality of food and drinks was not as good even compared to Royal Carribean MDRs. Moreover, service was slow and often unatentive. On top of those, the shows, shops and public areas are very basic, and many things were not included in the Yacht Club package (such as milkshakes) which felt stupid and cheap given the things included and price paid. That said, if you are not picky with food and drink, or plan on taking a very sunny cruise which will allow you to enjoy the private deck - Yacht Club is definitley better than standard class, but in our opinion not worth it, and you are better off with a balcony cabin at Norwegian or Royal Carribean. My husband and I sailed on the MSC Seaview cruise in the Western Mediterranean from April 17 to 24, 2019. We have enjoyed dozens of cruises around the world on other cruise lines. This was our first time with MSC Cruises, and by far, it was the absolute worst cruise we have ever been on. First, upon walking into our ocean view cabin (#5171) on the first day of the cruise, we were assaulted by the stench of the foulest sewer smell imaginable. The smell was inescapable - it permeated every corner of the room, it was on every piece of furniture, on the bedding, in the carpet, on the towels, it was everywhere. We reported this problem to customer service right away, but we were told there was nothing they could do, the ship was fully booked. We had to live with this stench for the entire length of our cruise. The cabin had no windows or doors that could be opened to bring in fresh air. It became a serious health hazard for me. I developed migraines, I was severely nauseated, I vomited several times. My husband and I could not breathe at night and we could not sleep. Every day we reported this situation to customer service and each time we were told they could not do anything. On the fifth day on our seven-day cruise, a customer service supervisor used a chemical spray in the bathroom, which did nothing to get rid of the sewer stench. It only added a strong chemical smell on top of the awful sewer stench and it worsened my already poor health. Second, MSC Seaview was woefully understaffed. With over five thousand passengers, the ship only had two customer service counters and a maximum of six staffers handling customer service requests. This created unbelievably long queues at the customer service counters and a lot of frustration among the passengers. Third, we have never been on a ship that charged its passengers for drinking water during dinner or forced its passengers to buy bottled water. I understand charging customers for alcoholic drinks, but to treat drinking water like a luxury amenity on a cruise is beyond ridiculous. We have never encountered such a "nickel and dime" company such as MSC Cruises. Fourth, for a ship that bills itself as "one the most innovative cruise ships touring the world," we found the onboard dining experience exceptionally subpar. At every meal, the food seemed to be jumbled together with no thought to presentation or organization. We've had better dining experience at our local McDonald's. The bottom line is, our experience onboard the MSC Seaview was the absolute worst we've ever had on a cruise. We will never recommend MSC Cruises to anyone and we will never take another MSC cruise ever again! Read Less

We embarked in Barcelona for the ships first visit round the med after its transatlantic sailing from Brazil. We arrived into Barcelona the day before so had plenty of time to explore and relax before boarding. MSC had allocated us a 1430-1600 check in time, so we caught the port shuttle to the ship around 1400 and were greeted by 2 of the longest lines. 1st line was for bag drop off, so we were in line around 1415 and we dropped our bag off at around 1510, we were then handed a boarding card and had to join another line to go through security to get into the terminal, once in the terminal luckily our boarding group had already been called, but we saw people hanging around with groups about 10 up from us so that would have been at least another hour. Checked in at 1615 we headed up to the ship for another hour wait to board, eventually on board at around 1730 we dumped our hand baggage and was pleased to see our cases waiting for us outside our cabin. Safety drill was due at around 1700 but as half the ship was yet to board this was delayed we headed to the buffet on deck 8 for some food and grabbed what we could before they pulled the shutters down ready for the drill. It was a long embarkation day, which i guess wouldn't normally be so bad had not the majority of the ship left, and a full ship was trying to board for Easter. The Seaview is an beautiful ship, and being less than a year old everything was still new and worked well. The main stair case is a amazing and great to see. Lifts can be a bit hit and miss sometimes, rather than calling for the lift you select what deck you are heading to and it will allocate you one from the bank. We waited for ages for lifts to come sometimes and when it showed up it was full then you had to go over the process again. We used the interactive screens dotted around the ship to book entertainment which needs to be done a couple of days before. With entertainment the singers/musicians in the main atrium where great to sit and listen to, we then only really bothered with the show in the evening, we booked onto the 2230 show every night and even though this was the 3rd show of the evening it was still full every show. The shows them selves were good mainly singing or variety acts, with little spoken word as would be hard on a ship so multi cultural. Our cabin was good, located on deck 12 mid ship with a balcony, big enough for 2 of us, with a sofa and big wardrobe. Cleanliness wasn't great as we found a bag of rubbish in the wardrobe, hairs on the cushions on the bed and nail clippings on the balcony. Bathroom was nice and modern with no dreaded shower curtain,just nice clean glass. Staff were friendly enough and everyone i spoke with was cheerful and helpful. On other cruises i have been on the cabin attendant will get to know you by name and is good for a chat, on the Seaview i am not sure if it is done differently but i had no idea who was looking after our cabin and saw the odd cleaner down the corridor. As others have said every announcement is done in 5 different languages so can take a while, we didn't hear or see the captain once during the cruise apart from in the theatre on formal night. Food was good majority of the time, we stuck to the main buffets on deck 8 and 16 and could always find something to eat, pizza's are amazing and best on ship pizza's i have had and they bake breakfast goods as needed in a morning which was nice. I did find it weird that the ship would run out of certain items during our cruise and considering we had no days at sea i would have thought it would be easy to source items. But we had no tomatoes on board for the 5 days and they ran out of fanta and sprite by day 2, so were left with non branded versions. We only took one excursion and that was at La Spezia to see the little towns in the hills, which was good value at EUR50 each and was a full day. At the other ports we did our own thing as you could easily pick up an open top bus tour for a fraction of the cost of the ships excursions. Overall i would go back on the Seaview again, we did have a great time and really enjoyed our holiday. Read Less

This was a 7 night cruise and not 5 as stated above. Having been on Royal Caribbean and Princess I was expecting a similar experience on MSC but with more sparkle. The ship was beautifully decorated and very sparkly but I would not choose MSC over other cruise lines again. Embarkation was quite chaotic. It wasn't clear where to drop bags and people were queuing for ages outside in the boiling sun. I was lucky to get in the cruise terminal but had to sit on the floor for 2 hours to await boarding. Our room was a bit smaller than on other cruises we had been on, despite having a balcony, and we were given bunk beds for our children despite stating when we booked these were not suitable. We were told there was nothing that could be done so we made do. Our son was old enough to use the top bunk but to our horror the beds collapsed with him on top and the top bunk fell down. He was very shaken. We were lucky our daughter hadn't climbed in the bottom bunk. We complained but were told there were no other rooms for us. Our only option was for our son to sleep on a mattress on the floor and our daughter slept in our bed. There was no way we were going to use the bunk beds. We discovered later that there was a lock on the side and this had obviously not been put in place. The beds were also left out the whole time so we had no settee to sit on. On other ships the bed settee was always converted back and set up again in the evening. Our room felt very cramped because of this especially for 4 of us. We also had no shower door. Water went everywhere in the bathroom and we had to mop up before our children could go in there every day. We were told it had broken and that a new one would be fitted. This never happened. My brother had no shower door in his room either. On day 3 reception sent for us. We were excited as we thought we would finally get a room with a standard sofa bed. We got to reception only for them to tell us there was nothing they could do. What a waste of our time! We felt that they couldn't have cared less about our grievance. The buffet food was pretty good, if a little repetitive, but the full night buffet didn't open until 7 so before this only pizza, hotdogs, burgers and chips were available. There were often big queues. Afternoon snacks were nice though between 4.30 and 5.30. Cream tea and hot puddings. We only went to the dining room once. The staff were clearly flustered and struggling to cope. I ordered chicken breast. It arrived just stuck on top of some chips. No garnish, sauce or vegetables. For an a la carte restaurant it was a joke. The other dishes weren't great and choice was limited. You couldn't see the menu until you were at your table. We waited ages between courses and despite starting at 6 only just got to the show in time for 8. My daughter's burger arrived with the cheese but without the burger! By this time we were all laughing and thinking of Fawlty Towers. The buffet offers no gluten free options. My brother was told to eat in the restaurant only but obviously this was very inconvenient. My parents complained and the buffet staff miraculously came up with some gluten free rolls. My brother resorted to buying his own food whilst on shore every day as he felt he had no other options. A ridiculous situation when you've paid a lot of money for a cruise. In the buffet you get free water and tea and coffee but not any other squashes like on other cruise lines. In the restaurant you can only buy bottled water. There's no free water. There are also no water machines around the ship other than in the 2 buffet areas. We thought this was very poor. You can have tea and coffee and juice for breakfast but only in the buffet areas. On day 5 after going off the ship for a look around we got back on only to find all our cruise cards had been cancelled so we had to queue at reception for new ones. On day 6 we briefly got stuck in one of the glass lifts at the back of the ship. We also discovered that we were charged €34.99 for our embarkation photo even though we never received it and didn't want it. We had to ask 3 times for it to be taken off our account. Other things we liked on other cruise lines was movies on the big screen at night and free ice cream. None of this with MSC. The basic problem with this ship is that they are just cramming too many people on to cope with. Staff and facilities are stretched. We enjoyed the ports and most of the buffet food. The themed evenings were nice on floor 16 and the entertainment was a better standard than on other ships but our overall impression of MSC is not good. We feel that they only care about how much money they can make from you at every available opportunity and that customer service is very lacking. We are planning on taking the issue of the bunk beds up with MSC as we are very concerned that this can happen so please check that the beds are locked in place if you use them. Read Less

Children were up past when I went to bed. The good: very little feeling of movement on the ship Ports of call were desirable but also very crowded Balcony cabin was good size for two people though the industrial green was a poor color choice Cabin service was pretty good The shows are short, maybe 35 minutes and the singers and dancers are quite skilled. Good costumes. The bad: The shows were uneven. As the week progressed there were some very strange shows including a pole dancer and a number by a contortionist who looked like he was being tortured with electricity. The food was not good in either the dining room, which took forever and was very noisy, or the buffet, which had many of the same tasteless or overlooked dishes every day If you don’t like being overstimulated visually this ship will not make you happy. The casino feels like a funhouse and the central lobby features floor after floor of lit up stairs and mirrored surfaces. Combined with being knocked around by passengers who don’t seem to even notice( forget Excuse me) it felt like an assault on the senses. Embarkation was three hours of waiting in line Tour gatherings were very disorganized in a bar packed with heavy furniture you couldn’t get around Excursions had great tour guides but you were constantly rushing from place to place. This review is for two adults in an Aurea balcony on MSC Seaview. Salvador , Brazil to Barcelona, 11 nights. Our first on MSC... Boarding in Salvador was very quick, we were in our cabin by 12.45. Most passengers started 4 days before us in Santos and reported 5 hour delays getting onboard. We were told the ship only had 3400 passengers out of a possible 5179. The Cabin was clean, amazing bed and pillows, big interactive TV and we had a large balcony with two sunbeds, 2 chairs and a table. Our room steward was friendly and sorted several things we needed straight away. The bathrooms a good size with a roomy shower with three pressure settings. The decor of the room was an awful green and didn't match up to the rest of the ships glitzy interior. The rest of the ship is very nice, its modern but classy. The Swarovski staircases were stunning. The ship is marketed as bringing you closer to the ocean than ever before but i found the opposite. As deck 8 is open air, the rest of the ships built inwards, therefore restaurants were surrounded by decks and chairs not seaview windows, the side panels were very high along the decks, no venue at the front of the ship to look out from, decks 4/5 had little to no windows at all and at the front there is a massively high side wall blocking deck 9 balcony views. Some days there was very loud and deep bags from the waves hitting the hull, you get it on all ships but this was much worse than we have ever experienced. Another passenger we met actually complained and they were told by an officer its the ships design and the speed we were going at the time... The pools are salt water and were not heated. There was more than enough sun beds across the ships which were very comfy with headrests. We found the food to be very good overall. The main buffet had lots of stations and did vary each day. The buffet stopped dinner at 10pm and then pizza was available until 2am and the Pizza is amazing! We found numerous veggie options in all eateries every day. The smaller buffet on 16 has themes each night including tex-mex, BBQ and Indian. They could get crowded so i dread to think what it would be like with over 5000 onboard. The main dining room had lots of options every night, usually 4/5 main courses plus the "always available" menu giving you another 5+ main course options. The service was mostly very good, just the occasional delay between courses. Every third night was also themed in the main dining room. One afternoon we tried lunch in Golden Sands and was seats in the Bella Fantastica area. Our experience was very different, the service was extremely slow and the mains were cold they took that long to come. The waiters had too many tables to serve and it doesn't help them that everyone gets seated at the same time causing a big rush. The tables for 2 were also extremely close and in long rows, you may as well have been on a table for 8/10. If we would have had this experience the entire cruise we would never consider MSC again. We ate at the French Bistro twice and its great value for money at $15pp. Portion sizes are massive. There is lots of nice bars all over the ship and plenty of seating. Seaview lounge is nice with chilled acoustic music, the Garage club seem to just fill a walkway, shine bar is a good spot for listening to any musicians in the atrium and Sunset beach bar was often lively with an afternoon DJ set. A glass of wine started at $3.40 and cocktails were mostly $7.90 upwards. The coffee onboard is very good and they serve is everywhere. Entertainment was the biggest disappointment, the in house shows were shockingly bad, propped up by the odd quality variety act. The shows became boring and the acts were repeated. All of the musical shows include opera, they even worked it into their dire Tina Turner tribute. The shows were only 35 minutes each as there is three a night, 19.45, 21.00 & 22.15. The theatre is small for the size of the ship, so it will be a struggle to get in when the ships full. There was lots of good bands/ singers on across the ship during the day and evening. Daytime activities were average, most being games or chargeable activities. The slides were great fun, especially the surf board one. The zip line was closed when ever its windy, which is a lot of the time on a moving ship... The party's in the atrium had a great atmosphere and went on until the early hours. The two male cruise directors were almost invisible, the only time we saw them was in the dining room or buffet. Clearly employed for their language skills to quickly open the shows then disappear but not much else. We found the MSC for me app really useful, booking everything on it. The wristbands were much easier than carrying your room card and worked for everything including access to your room. Communication onbaord was very poor, PAs were inaudible most of the time and no announcements from the captain, even after a 3 hour delay leaving Salvador and then arriving into Malaga half a day late. As others report with MSC the Pas are made is multiple languages, we counted 7 one night and i have to agree it does become tedious. The main staff were really very good. They went out of their way to help, they were always polite and happy to chat. Our main waiter was great, very chatty and friendly, he would always give us little appetisers before we even ordered. The service overall was very personal for such a large ship. Aurea Experience- With Aurea we had my choice dining so could turn up when we wanted between 6pm and 10.15pm at Golden Sands and select a table we wanted. As we booked a while ago we had the old "classic drinks package" with upto $8 drinks, coffee and gelato. This included the vast majority of every drinks menu across the ship and was a great saving for us. We really liked the chilled top19 deck, lots of sunbeds, 2 Jacuzzi's and nice sofa seating by the bar. It was very quite compared to the main pools and the server said its always quiet up there even when the ships full. We used our massage that was included which was really nice, however as soon as they finished they were trying to sell you more. The free access to the thermal spa was a really nice bonus too, there were about 8 different rooms and the salt room was so relaxing. There was a few nice touches in the cabin too with slippers, robes and a diffuser. You also have priority disembarkation and your bags were ready first in the terminal. We loved Aurea class and would not sail MSC without it because of the flexibility it gives you. Getting on and off at the ports was easy during the cruise but final disembarkation was painful with ques to get off and ques in the terminal. We did not like MSCs disembarkation procedure, giving us times to meet and get off and also taking our bags away the night before. When we went to the meeting point there was no staff or guidance so we just made our own way off after breakfast. Taxis to the airport from the cruise port are 39 euro fixed price. Few Tips for anyone new to MSC or Seaview- - You only get sunbeds on your balcony if you book Aurea on deck 9. But the very forward ones have obstructed views which they don't tell you when booking. Go 9024 or backwards. - Aurea bookings now only give you easy drinks package which is up to $5 and this really reduces your drinks list. You would have a few wines and Skol beer along with the house vodka and gin with mixers. If you like cocktails, proper coffee, branded spirits and shakes its worth upgrading, i believe you can just pay the difference in the package prices. - Bella and Fantastica have set dining times and your not guaranteed a table size or time. Dinner times were 6pm, 8pm & 10pm in Golden Sands, 7pm & 9pm in Silver dolphin. - Book shows the day before if you want to get in. - If you use the spa they have sales during the cruise. Getting on it was 10% off when you booked 4 treatments but a few days later it was 30% each one. - No kettle/ coffee machine in room, take your own as getting one was not easy. Finally comparing MSC to our favourite cruise line NCL. MSC defiantly felt more upmarket because of the look of the ship and our Aurea experience but it was more restrictive. We travelled as a couple on an 11 night transatlantic from Salvador to Barcelona. We primarily travel on Royal Caribbean and this was our first time on MSC. As such this review will be comparing the two. Good Points - Great Cabin Explained in the cabin review - Almost Great Designed Ships The ship was designed beautiful and designed exceptionally with every detail almost thought out. The ship was kept meticulously clean - Great In-house Entertainment The in-house shows were very good although were 35 mins each. Costumes, make up, lighting were superior to RC. - Slightly Cheaper Drinks We don’t drink much so don’t purchase packages. Drinks were about 20% cheaper than RC and tended to be a similar size. Nice touches in the Sports Bar was providing nachos and dips with drinks. The drink alcohol measures also tended to be large. - Always Available Sun Loungers There was sun loungers always available even when very busy - An Affordable Ship Tour At $45 for a three hour tour of behind the scenes of the ship this felt like good value compared to RC price which on Oasis was around $80-90 (which we didn’t take up). Now to the negatives - there is a few: - Some Design Flaws Whilst the ship is beautiful they made some mistakes; The theatre has 934 seats - on a ship with a capacity of 5300. This means that the performers are forced to do 3 x 35 minute performances a night. Whilst these didn’t always sell out (as booking is required) I feel the theatre should have had more capacity to reduce this to two maybe slightly longer performances. The seating is also very tight on leg room. The pools are all 6ft deep with no shallow sections (with the exception of the kids play park) The dinning rooms are too small. This cruise wasn’t full but heard previously of issues with not having enough tables in the restaurant. This results in some very closely configured tables which almost resemble banqueting halls where your almost sharing tables with your neighbour. This didn’t happen to us but it could be pot luck whether you land one of these tables. I’m also not sure if this is down to the table situation but they tend to run 4 dinner sessions 6pm, 7pm, 8pm and 9pm - there is also a my choice dining option. If you aren’t in within 15 minutes of that time then the restaurant closes. This policy leads to everyone arriving in a 15 minute window. Servers maybe with 6 tables or more each then need to take orders, serve drinks, bread and food. Not staggering tables affects quality of service and also I’m sure has an effect on the kitchen staff as well. Very open venues. Many of the entertainment areas aren’t intimate or open and have limited seating - so often what happens is a performer is playing to people who are not there to see the act but people who are just there taking a seat. Often the venues are also corridors to other places which then has the effect of major background noise. - The food was very hit or miss The food in the buffet and main dining at breakfast was to a similar standard to RC although with possibly slightly less choice Lunch in the buffet offered less variety than RC and the one time we had lunch in main dining it was ok. Again they seemed to seat people in one waiters section meaning they had immediately 8 tables to serve in quick time. We had dinner in the main dining each night and it was very hit or miss. Some dishes were surprisingly good others were just ok. Portions tended to be smaller than RC - which I think is a good thing - as often RC portions can vary and tend to be large. We developed a system to ensure we got alright food on MSC - we found they tended to be better at seafood and fish dishes than other meat types. For desserts their ice cream and ice cream sundaes were actually very good. They were also very good at pizza and (crisp) fries at the buffet. - Water At dinner service we were entitled to complimentary bottled water - which seemed to be rationed with one bottle coming out at a time. I’m not sure why they don’t just serve water - I actually would prefer a big jug of iced water from the tap than create more plastic to be recycled. - Sanitisation Whilst cleanliness was very good on board hygenie such as hand sanitisation was more an optional occurrence. There was hand sanitiser stations and even hand washing stations in the buffet but many just didn’t bother. By the end of the cruise a large number of people seemed to have a cough. - Disembarkation at some ports was a nightmare We stopped at Tenerife and Malaga on this trip. Tenerife was actually very smooth. However Malaga was slightly dangerous. Due to three medical evacuations by air and bad weather the disembarkation time was understandably changed to 2:30pm. People queued from 2pm with no staff to manage queues these quickly got out of hand with no real queuing system, people joining the lines as they come down the stairs or out of lifts. Some of the queue were then sent to the crew exit to alleviate this. But that was somewhat a bottleneck > with again people coming down stairs and lifts and joining in a mass. - Lack of Activities On board there was somewhat limited daytime activities. On RC we enjoy attending the trivia which is up to seven times a day. It is a great way to meet people as well as break up sea days. On MSC it tended to be dance classes with only three trivia sessions across 12 days. On one day they had 3 activities scheduled at one time and none for three hours. They also had a guest lecturer on board who we attended several talks and was quite interesting. On speaking to her she stated that she only does the transatlantic cruises - what would they have had if she wasn’t on board. There was a lot of entertainment staff even more than on other lines so felt they weren’t utilised as well as they could be. - Languages It became quite monotonous to hear every thing repeated in 6 languages. MSC is European, and I was shocked how seemingly few US customers were on board which make up a large proportion of RC guests regardless where they sail from. Unsurprisingly the majority were Brazilians meaning Portuguese was the main language. Being from the UK and having a little grasp of a few languages I would have struggled without English which was certainly a minority language on board. I’m not sure there is a solution to this problem. Although perhaps they could announce in one language and display subtitles in other languages on screens in places like the theatre. - Not the best imported shows The shows which are imported tend to be languageless or language light. These were a mime act (x2), singing act (x2) and a Ventriloquist using somewhat common words from multiple languages. In fact the best part of these shows was often the audience participation bits which were only a small part. Overall these certainly were not as good as guests performers on RC. - Service was not as friendly as RC I felt the staff were not as friendly as RC. They all did a good job but didn’t really talk. On RC servers of food and drink tend to be really bubbly, restaurant managers visit our table each night and most other staff great you in the corridors of all ranks. I felt this was in a minority on MSC. The staff were still good at their job and some were really friendly. For example a waitress at the chocolate shop remembered us for the rest of the cruise and greeted us each time we walked by, the maitre’d at main dining was very chatty and always acknowledged guests, deck staff cleaning the deck at 5am even gave out a strong good morning in Portuguese. Some other points; We had 3 air medical evacuations during this cruise and these were handled really professionally - it was good to see that if you need specialist medical help even 500km off the coast that attempts will will be made to get you that help. The Spanish Search & Rescue Service Salvamento Maritimo sent a Puma helicopter and an AirbusHeli plane to evacuate a staff member who was in labour with the baby in the breech position. An unusual announcement came over the tannoy in another language first and I picked up the words gynaecologist or obstetrician as they are very similar. The next day whilst at the buffet they made an announcement of “Mike Echo” over the tannoy and the evacuation was in full progress. MSC was the first cruise line to search my bags getting off at a port. As we were on holiday for 17 days we really needed to wash some clothes. I hadn’t preordered a washing package which were reasonable in advance. But per piece priced onboard. As we had washed clothes before off ship on our last transatlantic we thought we would do the same again. Last year on RC we carried off two rather large stuffed full weekender bags no questions asked. Even Spanish police and didn’t even look as we walked through with them. However MSC security were puzzled why I might be taking a weekender bag off the ship and wanted to know what was in it, scanned it and then did a quick visual search. This vigilance I believe is a good thing although what bag size is too big - I was shocked to have not been at least stopped last year with RC. On MSC others got off with backpacks no questions asked. Beware of the shuttle sale at Malaga. This has been mentioned by others before but MSC somewhat tried to sell a $10 shuttle to the city centre from Malaga cruise terminal stating it’s a 20-25 min bus ride away. In reality it’s about 25 minutes leisurely walk by the marina. A taxi would be about €6 each way, and if you wanted to do specific things may just save you a few minutes. Overall we left feeling we enjoyed a relaxing 11 nights on board. We would sail again with MSC possibly on their smaller ships (which we tend prefer) on itinerary rich sailings negating some of the activity issues although we have another two transatlantic sailings booked with RC for early next year so possibly not anytime soon. We have sailed mostly with RCL previously and was looking forward to sailing with a different cruise liner. This was our first time sailing with MSC. Embarkation process was alright. We embarked from Salvador (Cruise started in Santos, Brazil a couple of days before we embarked) and therefore they only had 2 staff at the check in desk which probably took longer than it should have. As soon as we got on the ship, my first impression was what a stunning ship! There is a lot of mirrors which makes the ship look even bigger. It looks very extravagant. It has a water slide, jungle pool, pools, jacuzzis, zipline, bowling alley, arcade, library, theatre, cinema etc. Our rooms were also ready unlike RCL where you have to wait until 2pm (we were in the ship around 12ish). We had a balcony room and it is very spacious and the bed is comfortable. Also the wardrobe space is adequate. They describe the ship as a smart ship. I recommend purchasing the wrist band (about $5) as you don’t have to worry about your cruise card at all. But you will need your cruise card when you get off the ship. You can use the wrist band to purchase things and for reserving theatre shows if you haven’t done it yet on your TV. There’s about 11 free movies and some of them are quite decent. Live TV channels are also available that caters to different language speakers (we’ll come to that in a moment). You can also check menu from the dining room on your TV and book spa/excursions. I would also recommend downloading the MSC for Me App as you can use it onboard to check for activities and book stuff without having to pay for the internet. You can connect to the ship WiFi and then use the Internet ID that you can find in your cruise card and cabin number to log in. This will not work unless you are connected to the ship WiFi, i.e. will not work outside the ship. Now for the not so good reviews. Food - If you are looking to go on a cruise and worried about gaining weight- this is the cruise for you. The food is not great in the dining room - with the exception of desserts, they’re pretty edible. The buffet isn’t great either. No comparison with RCL on this one - RCL’s food is definitely better! Service - In comparison with RCL, I missed the smiley faces of the crew regardless of who you are. In RCL, they greet you in the corridors with a big smile, everywhere in the ship. In MSC, you’ll be lucky to get one. The staff are pleasant but they don’t go that little bit extra which makes your cruise special. Entertainment - In terms of activities throughout the day - you’ll get bored. There’s nothing fun. This is what the ship lacked - a sense of fun! A waste of a beautiful ship! However, the in-house entertainment is definitely better than RCL. In fact RCL can learn from MSC in delivering a great show. Also the staging and costumes are phenomenal. However, the guest performers on some nights are quite so-so. Language issues - It gets a little bit exhausting when they had to repeat the same thing 7 times in different languages. It’s mostly a Brazilian cruise but dear God, apart from Portuguese, it was translated to English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Polish. So an announcement that should last 30 seconds, lasts about 10 minutes. They need to learn from RCL on this one on how they make it work. Disembarkation - the disembarkation is also an issue. We were delayed in our stop in Malaga due to three medical emergencies during the cruise (one was a pregnant woman who had to be taken off the ship using via an air ambulance). So when we disembarked in Malaga, we had to queue for about an hour before we were let out and there was no queuing system so people started overtaking us. It was a shamble! Overall, I think it’s a nice ship and I would go back only if it is destination heavy. Will never go back on a transatlantic cruise, it was a slow death! Read Less

We are just returning from our 18 day adventure as a family of five ,two adults three children age 7, 13 ,15 we have previously sailed with RCI , NCL ,PRINCESS AND CUNARD and after reading some of the reviews of MSC had very low expectations but they do a loyalty match to our diamond plus level with RCL so we gave it a go and this is honestly the best cruise line we have sailed with happiest ship , friendliest crew , most gorgeous ship and child friendly ship, any child not enjoying this cruise I would say their parents have got real problems because it has everything kids love everything adults love really superb peace and quiet , loud and bouncing and all inbetween . We had a whirlpool suite cabin 14211 ,gorgeous , space,technology ,walk in wardrobe .Erica our room steward was amazing as was lokesh and Anand our anytime dining staff so helpful and obliging,although portion sizes were small in the dining room we were constantly offered more so it was never an issue. We were on the aurea package and used the thermal suite a lot (gorgeous ) we also had our complementary massages (no catch) Ship is very smooth and incredible with technology everywhere, we purchased nearly every package before we boarded and it was cheaper and so easy for f1 simulator, zip line ,4d cinema ,air hockey, waterslides ,bowling ,washing package was great and next cruise I will definitely pack less and have more washed and pressed ,brilliant . Just 1 small complaint MSC what on earth is going on with your embarcation process ???? NOT GOOD stood like sheep in sao Paulo in scorching temperatures appears no organisation or communication it was almost a crush a bit frightening to be honest ,fix this and we have found our perfect cruise line by the way disembarking was a breeze so you can do it Read Less

Modern ship, many open areas from which you can admire the sea. I liked the track with a transparent bottom. The glass was clean and it was clearly visible what was happening below. Lots of fun for kids. There is a water park, rope town, zip-line. There is a pool with a retractable roof, which is very important for me if the trip passes through countries with different climatic conditions. There are soft loungers near the pool. Good organization of stations in the buffet, no queues. Even at peak times it was possible to find a free table. Dirty dishes cleaned quickly. In the restaurant at the beginning the service was very slow. Then it became faster, but the choice of dishes was not very impressive. Desserts were quite good in the buffet and in the restaurant. Loved the assortment of fruit in the buffet. There were mango, papaya, passion fruit, kiwi, pineapple - all I love. Landing in the first port was not organized very well. The exit in the last port was flawless. I really liked the cruise itinerary, the weather was great. Overall, the cruise went well. I can recommend this ship. Read Less
