I usually do not review cruises but this one cannot be ignored. My husband and I flew to Barcelona with 10 friends to take the MSC Meraviglia cruise that sailed 11-24-17. The itinerary for this cruise was great. But, sadly, that was the only thing that was great. The ship is new and quite beautiful but the acoustics are horrid. It is a very loud ship. The cabins appear roomy but that is because there is limited furniture (no chair), a very small closet with only a few thick wooden hangers that take up a lot of precious room and only two very very small drawers which are located in the small closet. I would suggest bringing hangers and limiting your clothes. Use the extra luggage space to bring water. Only water available in the dining room is what you bring in or buy at 3.25 a bottle. And forget about getting a cup of coffee after dinner. Not available in the dining room. You would not have time to drink it anyway. They start trying to get you to leave about an hour after arriving. Our first night, the Maitre 'D actually asked us to leave. Only time he talked to us the whole 8 day cruise. Our waiter was rude and unsociable. He was rolling his eyes while standing behind you taking your order. I guess he thought we would not see that. The food portions were very small and the quality was mediocre at best. This was the first cruise that I lost weight. There were several nights that we had to go to the buffet after dinner if it was open. The buffet was closed more often then it was open. They shut it down after breakfast for two hours and again from 4PM-7:30PM and again at about 10:00 PM. During those times all that is available is Pizza which was not very good. It's an Italian ship and the pizza was not very good. The poolside grill was cooking hamburgers but would not let you get one. They were wrapping and taking them to the buffet. By the time you got one, took it to the salad bar to put lettuce/tomato on it, it was cold. But, I only ate one because it was terrible meat. Disembarkations for the tours were total chaos. On our tour to Rome the bus turned around 1/2 hour into the trip to come back for 4 people they forgot. They got us back to the ship at tour end late and we missed our appointed dinner seating. They would not seat us and told us to go to the buffet. When we went up there all that was available was pizza. We paid for some fish and chips at a pub and they were tasteless. The buffet served exactly the same food day after day. There were a few desserts that were good but in general it was just mediocre food. The hot chocolate at the specialty shop was great but that is another paid for item. You have to reserve all shows. The cigarette smoke in the casino is terrible. The staff ranged from complacent to rude. I could go on. This was the worst cruise I have been on and I will never sail with MSC again. They began as a cargo hauler and apparently still think that's what they are doing because they are definitely not a cruise line. Read Less

We chose this cruise, despite all the bad reviews, because the price and the itinerary were good. We figured "how bad can it be". Well the reviews were right. The ship is beautiful. Everything else was not. I don't even know where to start. From the minute we set foot on the ship everything was about up selling you. Even at dinner in the main dining room the waiters were trying to sell you dining packages to the paid restaurants. In the dining rooms the food was barely edible, almost laughable, and forget about a glass of water or a cup of coffee with your meal. All extra! That's right. if you wanted a glass of water you had to buy a bottle. If you wanted coffee or tea you had to pay for it. Wine and soda I understand but water? a cup of coffee?. So the alternative to dining is to pay extra to go to one of the restaurants or go to the buffet. Let me tell you; the buffet was even worse. 6,000 people fighting for access to the most poorly laid out buffet I've ever seen. We tried it once for breakfast and once more for lunch. The food was no better. After that We would not set foot near the buffet except in the evening when I needed a cup of hot water to mix some Theraflu for a head cold before bed. Even that was an excruciating experience. Most times there was no hot water available or the urn was empty. There was no flow control at all in the buffet so it was chaos at all times and the staff did nothing to ease the situation. We saw our room steward on the first day..that was it. when you bought anything you signed an electronic pad and never got a physical receipt. forget about trying to reconcile your bill at the end of the cruise. The ship was always noisy. There was not a quiet place anywhere on the ship that you could go to relax or read except the sky lounge up top, but every time we tried to get up there for some quiet conversation or relaxation it was "closed for private event". I could go on and on but there is just too much to say; such as if you wanted to go to a show in the theater you had to make a reservation ahead of time. What ever happened to " I think I'll go and see what the show is after dinner". At the end of the cruise our group of 12 friends could not wait to get off that ship. Up until now our worst cruise experience had been on Carnival. Not anymore! MSC is now #1 for NEVER AGAIN! Read Less

On arrival onboard there is a huge hard sell line of touts that surround you as you walk through calling out to you to buy all their extra packages and shoving their ads in your hands. Very difficult to ignore or say no which is what they want. Market place buffet restaurant is massively overcrowded, noisy, uncivilised and impersonal. Have to push and grab for everything. Should be split into different rooms. No free fruit juice except at breakfast time and extremely sugary! Coffee is terrible. Hard sellers going from table to table touting for their businesses in your face whilst eating your meals. Pushing you to buy extras such as freshly squeezed orange juice which should be free anyway, soft drinks and payable restaurants, etc, etc. They are rude and interrupt you constantly. The alternative free upmarket restaurant also charge you for water plus commission on top! They refuse to offer tap water. Food there is tiny. 3 raviolis for a main meal or a teaspoon size mashed potato as the only veg with a thin piece of meat. Soup size is about 4 tablespoons. No films, documentaries, dramas, tv programmes for English viewers in the cabins. Only payable ones. They only had news channels and CBeebies in English. Cinema is chargeable. Bowling is chargeable. Free show every evening but Cirque du Soleil in another theatre is payable. Buying a wifi package doesn’t even give you access to your emails. You have to upgrade even more to get that. Excursions are much more expensive with MSC. Much much cheaper if you get a taxi or Hop On Hop Off buses. There is always a Tourist Information desk right next to the ship at every port giving you a free map and directions and ways to get about much cheaper than the ship’s. The ship always gives you the impression that their methods are the only ones, such as their own ‘payable’ shuttle bus to city centre a mile away – not true. Money is taken from your account towards UNICEF without your consent during the cruise. Was told this is apparently “in the small print”. The brainteaser quiz session had 90% of questions regarding MSC i.e. “What benefits are there if you book your next cruise now with us”. I think the word ‘benefits’ should be swapped with ‘hidden charges’. And the words of their show one evening was “We work with Love” - or rather “we work with del boys”. Felt like being hauled through a washing machine with the huge push to make you unwittingly spend more and I will never go with MSC again. Sadly, this mindset of hidden charges/hard sell/fees/commission is rife with all cruise companies and is getting worse. Stay away! Read Less

After 30 cruises we decided to try MSC cruise line for our first cruise with MSC and their Flag Ship. This is the first review I have made and feel I must as very disappointed with everything apart from the decor but it is a brand new ship so it should be. Main points Worst food on a ship, no complimentary water, no tea and coffee after dinner Choice of 3 starters, 3 mains and 2 desserts for dinner, no ice cream unles you paid for it. Breakfast awful and basic basic basic After midday room service you pay for! Entertainment awful and worst theatre sound I have heard Cabin lacking cupboard and shelves, small tv for new ship, smallest balcony I have seen. 5700 passengers and only 1500 crew members which is why the crew were overstretched and rude. Ship so noisey with everyone talking loud resulting in you could not even think. On embarkation day out of your cabin 7am latest. This should give you an idea of our last week and it is the first cruise that hat we eat more of ship. Read Less

we are parents of 3 daughters with their families and because of holidays vacations we have selected this cruise which fits our time table. This is our first cruise with MSC cruise line. we have booked 3 cabins with balcony, starting in Barcelona. It was very bad experience for family vacation since the food was the poorest possible, that we ever experienced in ship. we are cruising every year, at least twice a year, and this was our worst experience in food, in the buffet and restaurant. The menu in the restaurant where dinner was served was poor and non tasty at all. The major components of the food were all basics, like pasta, pizza and simple vegetables. No sophistication of food and its seems that no chef was on the ship when we bought our beverage package, we were surprised that the selection of wine was lowest quality and impossible to change it. Same poor service with the coffee package, it took more than one hour to get it. the rooms and the ship installations were good. the circle the soleil show was less enjoyable that it was supposed to be, even when we took their both show on the ship. Circle de soleil in Vegas was rich and enjoyable, but don't get wrong, nothing comparable and you have to add fees for the show. After this bad experience , we will never put our feet in MSC company. The year before our family went on MSC Armonia for our first cruise. The ship was full but it didn't feel crowded and the food wasn't fantastic but we enjoyed it, esp the pizzas. The entertainment was good. Overall we enjoyed it. So when we heard about MSC's new and biggest ship we thought it would be very special and much better than the one we went on so we booked it. We waited for hours to get on board the Meraviglia. It was so disorganised that every 10-15 metres or so a staff would be checking our documents, the same thing that was done 5 times before. We waited for 3-4 hours before getting on board. It was ridiculous. The room was small and cramp. The beddings were inadequate. The duvet they gave us was thick and hot, so we asked for another but we were told that was all they had so we had to use our beach towels as blanket. Even though the ship was brand new, the mattress were sinking in the middle and it was very uncomfortable to sleep on. The room service was poor and the staff generally tried their best to avoid being called: either in the dining room or to make up the rooms. In the dining room there were piles of plates on the table and lots of mess and no one to clear it up. There seemed to be very few staff about and they generally did their best to avoid working which would inundate them. It was really hard to get their attention or even to find one. The worse thing was the food: the buffet opening hours were really limited and there were hardly any food to choose from. It was the same food meals after meals and we felt they simply re-used the leftovers for the next meals. The portions in the restaurants were so tiny that they would have satisfied ants, let alone people. They advertised Cirque De Soleil on sea but they charged a hefty price and the queue was hours long. The only times we had half decent food was in the paid restaurants. The buffets were not fit to serve refugees. We were so glad to get home and was traumatised by the experience and never will we go with any of the MSC fleet again, ever! Read Less

the ports sounded very interesting, and the new ship and our first time on MSC. There were too many children on this line. I felt like I was on a Carnival Cruise x 2. The staff was not trained, and they had sad faces and did not know much of anything. The buffet was a total disaster with the amount of people. Most were very rude, and a lot of pushing and shoving around. The dinner was ok at best.. And the server thought I was from Mars when I asked for a cup of coffee, or a mixed drink. If you offered me a free MSC cruise I would NOT go. This ship is way too big- and MSC cannot handle it. They are just concerned about the bottom line, and dont care about people. When we returned from a tour, the staff was confused or untrained, and did NOT know how to have the passengers reenter the ship... Read Less

If you are American, have cruised before, and are considering MSC... DON'T DO IT!!! We had read the bad reviews but decided to give it a try thinking it couldn't be THAT bad. It was. The Meraviglia is new and spotless. So there's that. The food was AWFUL! EW, just thinking about it turns my stomach. AND...the buffet was the same food... EVERY DAY. If you have cruised Holland America, Celebrity or Royal Caribbean you will be EXTREMELY disappointed. There was not enough space at the buffet lines so most times it was 5 - 6 people deep with no seating in the restaurant. We had to laugh at the FEEDING FRENZY and tried to stay away. People were pushing and shoving as they filled their plates with the same disgusting food every day. You would have sworn it was the last meal ever to be served due to the intense nature at feeding time. We reserved a suite and based on MSCs website we thought we could at least avoid the morning feeding by ordering room service. Room service is available, but there is no hot food (continental breakfast only and cold sandwiches during the day). We ended up eating on shore most days. We also booked the Tryptic dining experience. The Butcher's Cut was marginal (that was the best of the three specialty restaurants). But, you are only offered a very limited menu and have to pay extra if you order anything different. The food at Eately was unpalatable - it still makes me queezy to think about it. The sushi restaurant was equivalent to the sushi you can buy at your local Publix or Kroger. The clientele on the ship were low rent (worse than Carnival) - I watched a woman lift a baby out of a full hot tub and change it's dirty (feces) diaper on the side of the tub, then put the baby back in the tub. She threw the dirty diaper on the deck below. So many rude people... who pushed their way in front of us for the simplest reasons...and treated the crew like dirt. We were stunned at the absurdity. Our cabin was a suite with a hot tub on the deck. It would have been amazing had there not been a 4 inch brown ring around the top from the previous guests filth. We called our cabin steward and he said they didn't use any chemicals or clean the private hot tubs, they simply drained the tub 1/2 way and refilled it for the next guest. Since the tub didn't heat above 35 C (95 F) it was completely unsanitary and therefore unusable. Our wristbands (for cabin purchases) still showed the previous guests for the entire time we were on the ship and we received a notice daily that there were issues with our credit card. We had to go stand in line at customer service 5 times (for ~45 minutes each time) to provide the exact same credit card, which they used to close our account and then reopen it - each time telling us it 'cleared' the problem. It didn't. There were 5,500 guests and only ~1,700 crew who were overworked and not happy. We asked a bartender how his day was going and he flat out said his day was 'crappy' and he 'hated this place'. We did meet a lovely girl from the Philippines (Delilah) - it was her third week on the ship. She said she liked us because we were nice to her. We asked if other people were not nice and she started to cry. It was heartbreaking. We ended up getting off the ship early, changing our return flight and hanging out in Barcelona for a few days. We had street food that was better than any meal on the ship, enjoyed amazing music and atmosphere (even in a city that just experienced horrible terror), and felt immediate relief to be off of that floating Walmart/Motel 6. Save your money. Do ANYTHING else. Read Less

This was cruise number 13 for me and number 4 for my partner all with MSC. We thought because it was a new ship it would be great, no such luck. There were not enough crew for the ratio of passengers hence things were not done as they should have been. for example, long waits for drinks, cold meals, queues to get off and on the ship The staff managed as best they could and were very good but all could see it was tough going for them. There are signs at the casino entrances under 18years not allowed but the parents don't give a toss, there were kids in there every night, not good. This ship is lovely but it is too big, too many kids and not enough staff, it would be nice to have a few areas ADULTS only, every 2nd person we spoke to were very unhappy and said the same as us ", we will not be doing any more cruises with MSC." you really don't care about your loyal passengers. They recently changed it for American market to which water is free. Watch out for $10 a day per person for service charge. They do not tell you unless you asked for the bill. Are you kidding me? Stay away from this cruise line. They also have restaurant to which you can pay for. We tried them as well. The food was marginal at best. The security crew to allow you to get out of the ship and back are not at all friendly. When you get into the ship, you will be harassed with a lot of sales people to sell you drink packages, spa packages, and other. Don't buy it since it is not worth anything. Read Less

This is the 9th cruise trip I had so far. First time with MSC. We tooked NCL, Royal Caribbean, Disney and Princess before this on. The MSC Meraviglia is a brand new ship with maiden voyage in early June, 2017. Though we are extremely disappointed, on the service. I will use the word, Horrible, to describe the experience. 1. Cabin is extremely small. Not enough space for storage even just two persons. Our friend with four family members had a same size cabin. Keep in mind, the crew ration of this new ship is 3.8-3.9. While the other cruise lines keeps crew ration around 2.8-3.0. 2. While they provide a new my MSC smart phone app for most of the information for on-boarder, the front desk always have long line even during the night around 11 pm or midnight. Reason for that is the there are so many issues passengers encountered. a) Over charge the drinking package which supposed to be free as part of the deal. b) No clear communication on the VIP photo access cards they offered so the passengers are confused. c) Food provided in the complementary restaurants tastes really bad. Fish, meat are all over-cooked. Much less variety in buffet for breakfast and lunch compare to other cruise lines. Main dining rooms are not enough so formal dinner has to be served in half of the buffet dining hall. d) In order to get a drink of featured coffee or cocktail, you have to wait for 10 to 15 minutes in the bar until to be served. 3. Front desk personnel are rude and not helpful even in the medical office. a) My kid got cut on the side of ankle, when we visit the medical office the male receptionist was really not patient to offer a band-aid. b) While we tried to get to bed around 11:30 pm on the first night we were on the ship, loud music/drum noise can be clearly heard from upper level lounge. When I called the front desk, they said they will call the bar to lower the volume first. We waited for 15 minutes, nothing changed. We called again, they said they would have someone stopping by to check. Waited another 15 minutes, called again, eventually the guy came and confirm the noise after 10 minutes and promised to change. Nothing happened for another 10 minutes. I had to go to the front desk and waiting on the line for another 10 minutes, the receptionist told me to wait until 1 am when lounge close!!! And promised me it was only for that night. Since it was 12:40 am, We waited and finally got sleep after 1 am. Next night, again, same thing happened!! I went to the front desk to complain and was told to stay in the room for someone to come check again, and confirmed, and asked me to wait for the lounge to be closed by 1 am !!!! We requested to see the manager of the front desk, REFUSED. ..... And eventually the lounge closed at 1:30 am. That was the second night. The third day in the morning, we waited on the long line for the front desk manager reported the issue. Eventually, told to stop by in the evening to provided us another room. Which is extremely small. The bed is queen-size and cannot fit a sofa in the room!!! And have to move back to our old room during the last night of the cruise. 4. The steward for the switch room in 8079 is not a honest person. we missing 90 Euros during the evening dinner-show time on the sea-day. The day before my wallet was missing and eventually found it behind the side table. The next day, the money in the inner side pocket of my bag I left in the room but not in the safe disappear... We reported to the front desk during the disembarkation. [The receptionist said why we hadn't report early?!?!?!] Well, so much to talk about disappointment. But have to giving a thumbs up on the shows it provided. High quality of the shows with top performers including the dancers, singers. Though, they are really overloaded. 5 nights a week and 3 shows each night for the same set of the performers. So, our advise - Stay away from MSC if you want to enjoy a cruise trip. Read Less

If you want to feel welcome on a Cruise Ship then don't choose MSC Meravigila as you never feel in the least bit welcome particularly in the main dining room, on our cruise in was Waves where the staff were the most incompetent, rude, surly waiting staff I have ever come across in any dining establishment that I have been in with a very small exception of them in any way helpful or nice, it was apparent very quickly to me that there are major staff issues onboard this ship but whatever is going on should not be allowed to impact on people's hard earned holiday as it did on ours and others on this cruise, as regards the food I will just say there's massive room for improvement. This ship is suited best for families as MSC has forgotten about couples with no dedicated pool or jacuzzi area for Adults Only despite there been more than enough areas onboard to accommodate children and only one Adult Only lounge which was nice but only had a Jazz Band who were great if you wanted to go asleep, the Meraviglia Lounge had a good dance band but it's very small and it's very difficult to get a seat and is used as a children's playground. It amazes me that MSC have invested so much money in what is a nice new ship only to fall down so badly on the basics and don't expect to be thanked for cruising with MSC or wished a safe onward journey as you leave because nobody cares whether you stay or go. Expect nothing and you'll get just that. I’m a platinum cruiser so I know impressive, satisfying, fair and inferior. So far, in life (experiencing almost all the cruise lines), I have been lucky to be on some awesome cruise ships that offered: great food, entertainment, excursions and an optimal service. But the MSC Meraviglia ship did not hit any of my bells or whistles. The ship, stands large and is a work of art. Beauty by all standards, interior and exterior. It is so pretty that when it sets out on the rising sun, passengers are bewitched. But that’s where the positives end. So, let’s take it all apart: Experience by experience. Arrival Experience. Immediately, I was struck with confusion at check-in. So many travelers ahead of me were in possession of their ship cards. What I found out that meant was that passengers could get on at every port and off at every port. Meaning that there is no set embarkation or disembarkation. You will never experience the welcome party. Friends that you make along the way may be getting off at the next port never to be seen again. This is not only a safety issue but it lacks the welcome experience of getting on taking pictures, meeting the crew and the welcome party the first night. As we went around the corner there was no embarkation photo. We were told that we may have to get that on the next port. This ship travels for 4 months without stopping picking up people at every port and dropping others off. We finally make it on board, we head to our room to freshen up and head to the buffet for a bite to eat. But first, we wanted to see our welcome gift. It was supposed to include drink coupons and fruit basket for each member of my family in the cruise program. We transferred our points from another cruise line. What we got was one fruit basket to share consisting of two bruised apples, one over ripped plum and a brown banana. The drink package was not in the room. We went to the reception and was told that there was no drink package. I requested the manager and was told that I did not have the package. I repaid to purchase two drink packages at $35 Euro’s. After returning to the room that evening, I was delivered a card that stated to come to reception about the drink packages. I arrived back at the desk and received my drink package that I had previously ordered during my reservation. I requested a refund of the package that I had paid for earlier that day and was told that since I got two drinks during lunch that they could not refund the package. That made no since to me because I knew that I had booked the package. But I went ahead and accepted that I would receive no refund for their mistake. Excursion. Usually, you will receive your tickets upon check in or early the first day. But when I hadn’t received my tickets, I thought I surely better go to the desk and find out. I was greeted and told by the clerk that I did not pay for the travel excursion. I explained that I did. She argued. I went back to my room to retrieve my computer copy that I brought with me on board. It clearly showed that I had paid for the excursion in Marseille, France. She then called the manager who (after 15 minutes) said “Oh, we cancelled the excursion and refunded your money.” So, my thought and reply to that was when were you going to tell me that. They answered was like a deer in headlights. So, I had to quickly booked another excursion to have something to do. If this was the only mistake at the excursion desk, I would say cool. But it wasn’t. I had a series of cancellations based on being a US citizen who speaks English. There is only a handful of Americans on board and they have very few translators in English. If they do translate, you have to wait for them to do the other language first (Italian, Germain, Dutch, Turkish). It’s very confusing and very long. Because translating in two or three other languages takes forever and leaves very little time for shopping in the ports. As you arrive on the ship after your tours, you see people in front and behind you with luggage and checking in. Which takes up time to reinter the ship. The excursion desk lacks in courtesy from the passengers as well. Everyone cutting in line as though respect isn’t a universal language. Food. One word: terrible. No flavor and no creative dishes. Other than an Italian menu. Don’t expect anything else. Pasta for days. Breakfast. Bacon and sausage uncooked. Literally, raw. Pork and beans are a common stable for mornings. Eggs runny, fruit over ripped, and the juice machine rarely working. But the croissants are extremely tasty. Lunch. Meat does not exist on the pizza or in the pasta. Ranch dressing. Wait for it – not there ever. In the dining room, you sit wherever. But you are subject to a different waiter each time. Who will take your order only to either not come back with the right stuff or forget about you all together. At one point, I had to leave the restaurant to go to the nearest bar to order a bottle of water to serve my family. Dinner. Restaurant has no variety and substitutions come back wrong. Charges for drinks will have to be removed at reception after you leave the restaurant. And Late night munchies are only pizza and left over burgers/hotdogs from lunch. Things you won’t see: Fried chicken, Mexican food, barbeque, pizza with meat, chicken fried steak, macaroni and cheese, fried shrimp and cookies. Nickle and Diming You. Be ready. Price for elegant night does not include steak or lobster. Be ready to shell out some big money. Price for on-board ice-cream (you know how to use those self-serve machines on board other ships. Price for room service. I bet you thought it was a given to get a free sandwich. Price for washing clothes. Yea usually a price on other cruise ships. But you get to do yourself and you pay for a full load. Here you pay for each piece (panties included). Price for riding the water slide or open ropes course. Just be prepared. Public Restrooms - Cultural. I get it. But grown boys (teens) and men in the women's bathroom makes me very uncomfortable. Especially for my teen girl on board. Shopping on board. If you have grown accustomed to those special shopping days. You know, the 2 for $20, $9.99 or drawings for that diamond that you’ll have to mount later. That won’t happen. I was used to grabbing for watches, bracelets, t shirts, scarfs. But it never happened. Kindness. I rode in the elevator alone for 12 floors with the cruise director. Who never acknowledge or looked up and greeted me. Front desk argues with guest especially the young lady with the pony tail who wears glasses she is rude with all passengers and many people with choosing to get skipped rather than end up with her. The philosophy that the customer is always wrong until proven right is something that is practiced. Safety. Passengers getting on and off at each port. A group of people trying to sneak on. Who would recognize them? On the day of cleaning the windows – the window crew walked through my room and right out the front door only to find out later that they took my balcony door off and even though there was constant calling the reception and going down. My door was not returned for 2 days. People were all over the balcony with our family. No signs for hot tubs. Which allow children to get in without parents and horseplay wrestling and jumping. One pool crew member tried to get out a group of boys who continued to use the F word over and over. Photography. Only about two photographers present each night. You may get an opportunity to have a background. But don’t expect those pictures at each port. Entertainment. The show is not in English. Which is okay. But be prepared to make a reservation to go. No comedy on board. I think they may have one day of trivia. No on-board movies on deck. My initial booking. I can only assume that what I desired in a cruise line was lost in translation on the day that I made my booking. Perhaps my experience will be different from yours. But I thought you should know. So now you ask can I find anything great. Yes the cities we visited are rich in history, beauty and culture. That beauty that exist can never be lost in translation. Read Less

First of all the good news, it s a beautiful ship! Cabins are very nice and quiet. Other positive point is the entertainment team, it s a big team and most of them are really nice, except for the italians...unfortunately, like all the italians on board, they lost their friendly attitude somewhere and they give you the feeling they are far better than the rest of the world. All the negative points : * nobody welcomed us on board, no explanation, we had to find out everything ourselves. * kids club staff very unfriendly * restaurant terribly unfriendly waiter, very slow service and tables are so close to one another that the waiter bumps you like 20 times .. * bar service, same story, slow, and on top of it all...we had an all in package and it happened to me 4 times on a one- week cruise that the drink i ordered was not available. I can assure you, a soft drink can not be the hardest drink to get on board, but one barman discussed with me about it, saying that this is a ship and it s not like on land. I cruised a lot, i never encountered this in any other cruise line. I had to go to another bar to get it....i might as well stayed at home , there i also need to do it myself. * guest service has lines from here to Tokyo. When it was my turn, she picked up the phone 6 times...don t know why ... but the wristwatch we wanted was not available, blablabla. Come back another day was the answer. I did the cruise without wristband cause queing to hear they don t know how to do it, is not really an activity to look forward to. * main pool too busy, and the result of that too dirty. Food, paper...drifting everywhere. * horizon pool and sundeck is to avoid when boat sails out of a harbor. All the soot from the engine flies upon you, clothes are black, skin is black, nothing nice about that.. * another place to avoid is the buffet, unless you want to eat the same pizza, the same ham and the same salad over and over again ... * soft ice..queu is enormous... * parties start at 23.30 or 24.00 at night...really late if you want to do excursions the next day. * ship uses 5 languages to make an announcment...very boring * shore excursions...they don t expect tips and you can tell by the way they act during the excursion, boring, boring, boring .. After sailing with this line, we now know the American lines are 100 % better than this one. If you only find out after 6days that there is a cruise director on board then you did something wrong as cruise director. But then again, he was italian and busy with himself, not with guests... My mother and I turned up to find that we'd been mistakenly allocated a child's bedroom in the middle of a family bedroom. This meant we had a small sofa bed meant for two children, for two adults, with two interconnecting rooms on either side - no furniture in the room, no space, nothing. When we complained to reception they told us that this was the room we had booked and that there were no other cabins and we would have to wait until we set sail to see if there was anything they could do. After I refused to leave the reception desk which had a queue of approximately 2 hours until the issue was resolved, we were reallocated a room which had no furniture in (which happened with many rooms - cabin staff were dragging chairs through to balconies throughout the cruise.) The restaurant service was absolutely terrible - staff had obviously not even eaten in a restaurant let alone served in one or been trained. Sometimes dinner service took 3 hours. We took the holiday some time ago so cannot remember everything, but we were offered £500 off of a cruise on the same ship, which we rejected, or £350 off a different ship. This was completely insufficient considering what we experienced. There was no information provided in cabins and the restaurant booking service didn't work either (had to be done online but the system wasn't working and we weren't given any additional information.) The entertainment was also done through a booking system, which didn't work - advertised shows such as the cirque de soul show was 15 euros. Upon disembarkation, there must have been 1000-1500 people trying to leave the ship at the same time, from one exit. To give you an idea of how many people were there, you couldn't walk through the big main central promenade as it was so jam packed with people. This involved a mixture of guests finishing their holiday and guests trying to disembark for shore excursions mixed together, there was no planning or organisation - people were getting crushed, screaming, crying, and just one hotel manager trying to sort the queue - this is not an exaggeration in the slightest. This resulted in us taking just under 2 hours to get off the ship and almost missing our flights. I've been on about 20 cruises and have loved them all, but this was probably the worse holiday I've ever been on - very very stressful which resulted in my mother crying (I've never seen her cry in my life!) This is NOT an exaggeration at all, it was absolutely one of the worst experiences I've ever had to endure. This is not an isolated experience, just to give you an idea of the scale of the problems on the ship, the queue at the reception ended up being extended up the stairs and there was a 2 hour wait in the queue on the first day. Reception staff would hang up the phone when we called so they didn't have to deal with the problems. I would never, ever cruise with MSC again, even despite the credit off the next holiday they gave me. The only positive is that the ship looks great, but the layout on the whole is also poor, very few lounges for drinking in the evening and the space / size of the ship has been used to accommodate more cabins to fit more people, not improve the public areas. I'd honestly beg you to not book with them - they do not deserve your money and don't let a holiday be ruined, there's a reason they're going so cheap, because no one wants to sail with them!
