I have cruised before, but my wife had not, and she was looking for "an over the top" experience". So I began searching for big ships doing the Mediterranean in November. MSC had a lot of ships and the Meraviglia is one of the top 10 largest ships afloat, very new, and the video was amazing. The reviews however, were anything but amazing. Like lukewarm and even negative reviews about our favorite restaurants, I have learned that most negative reviews are more about missed/too lofty expectations than reality. The biggest gripes about the Meraviglia seemed to be food and staff. Since the boat is so high tech and wondrously equipped, no one really complained about the ship. Sure enough, even our tablemates as well as others on board echoed the Cruise Critic complaints. They ranged from now having butter and iced tea (both free, readily available) to non English speaking staff who were "unfriendly". If your attitude is "I am the guest and I expect to be served", you will be disappointed. If you engage the staff with your own smile and understand they work 11 hours a day, even my first time cruising wife was amazed at how every waiter and staff person smiled back.....even when they had to say "no" (like when we were late for dinner and the gatekeeping waiter apologized saying he was not allowed to let anyone in past 7:45, so I asked him to ask for his captain, which he did, and of course, the captain, his boss, let us in). MSC offers the lowest prices afloat for the most interesting itineraries and the newest boats.....but unless you are traveling Yacht Club, you just cant expect white glove service--but you can expect politeness and cleanliness and entertainment and "service". And we got all of this and more. Dinner. We only ate at the standard Waves Restaurant. Three sittings, We were the second. The appetizers and desserts were great, the entrees, though varied were not as good and need improvement. Not to worry though because the astonishing buffet, open 20 hours a day, had stupendous selections of excellent food from simple salads, to homemade pizza, Halal and ethnic specialties, rotisserie *the roast veal carved to order was smashing), plus an on board mozzarella factory (you could see it being made) that ensured great caprese salads and more. And they changed the offerings every day! Housekeeping. In a word, perfect. No goofy doorknob hangers telling staff to clean up the room. Just press a button. Spotless. The Room. We opted for an admidships deck 12 interior cabin because my wife was worried about seasickness. The cabin was huge, with a queen plus bed, great pillows, lighting, etc And the bathroom has the best shower afloat in my experience with infinite hot water! And a blow dryer!. Staff. What a great group of waiters and support staff rom Central America to Ukraine and Africa. Just knocked themselves out to please! It surely helped that we engaged them instead of treating them like servants. Prices: For 5Euros we got any two items delivered free to our room. Drinks were 6Euros. The best ice cream and chocolate (made on the boat) were $1-3Euros. The coffee, water, tea, ice tea, etc. were all free at the buffet. So no complaints about the "extras" The experience: 32 elevators, four pools, an arcade full of shops, sky bars, full size basketball court, full size bowling alleys and a water slide that went OVER the edge of the ship, outstanding singing and dancing "Broadway" type shows and Swarovski glass staircases made onboard life hugely satisfying. The guests. Where were all the seniors? This was the first cruise I have ever been on where there were so many families, disabled people, young honeymooners, babies, kids, etc. from so many different countries. A true multi-cultural experience. Our table mates were from the Dominican Republic (an MD and his wife), honeymooners from Colombia, and a couple from Florida. A great itinerary and all of the above for $1300 for 7 nights? Yup, and we cant wait to go again! Read Less

My husband and I decided to take a Mediterranean cruise for our 20th wedding anniversary. We searched several cruise lines as we have cruised with three other American Cruise lines. We opted to take MSC As the other options were limited during the month of November. Never cruising with this cruise line before, we were a little bit hesitant but we’re excited about the port of calls. Leading up to the date of the cruise I became a little bit weary when reading other reviews. This caused our expectation to be lower than usual. As the other options were limited during the month of November. Never cruising with this cruise line before, we were a little bit hesitant but were excited about the port of calls. Leading up to the date of the cruise I became a little bit weary when reading the reviews. This caused our expectation to be lower than usual. We were pleasantly surprised at how gorgeous the ship was and how accommodating the crewmembers were. Everyone was super friendly and to our surprise the food was wonderful. We ate in various restaurants including one of the Cirque Du Soleil show with dinner. If there is one advice I can give to people that have not cruise with this cruise line before, is that there is a lot of information on the ship but you need to look for the information. Another words, if you opt for one of their experiences that includes unlimited drinks, be sure to ask from the beginning where the unlimited drinks are valid. This information was not readily available, therefore We did not take it vantage of it until the second to last night. The ship was extremely clean, the food was always hot, Unlike some of the prior reviews that we had read. I would recommend this gorgeous ship to anyone! Read Less

My second cruise on Meraviglia and my second time in Yacht club. Based on my two experiences i will never sail MSC outwith Yacht Club. Embarked at Civitavecchia which was a breeze, yacht club butler organised paperwork and bags within a few minutes of arriving and 15 minutes later we onboard and in cabin (bags arrived around 2 hours later). The cabin was well laid out and much more space in Yacht Club than the standard balcony cabins. Plenty of storage space. Bathroom with nice large walk in shower and of course a decent sized balcony. The first perk of Yacht Club onboard was the over the top fruit bowl and sparkling wine. I can summarise my experience in a few words - if i hadn't been in Yacht club i would have hated this cruise. being in yacht club has made me addicted to sailing that way!!! The ship is huge, the crowds are huge. YC has only about 200 people in it so it is always quiet. If you want peace stay in YC if you want to mix with others its only a short stroll to the main promenade. YC benefits are great. All drinks in the YC part of the ship are included as are almost all drinks in the other bars onboard so you can drink what you like when you like without thinking about the price. Mini bar also included and they will replenish as often as you want with as much as you need. Freestyle dining meaning you just go to the YC restaurant whenever you want - no having to be tied to dining at specific times which is great for someone like me who hates routine. Food though is quite average, but plenty of it. Access to the thermal area of the SPA is another great perk. The spa is a really nice space to relax, i went almost every day for at least an hour. I found the staff in YC a bit stuck up! I guess that's how they are trained to be. Outwith YC staff much more relaxed. Particularly good staff in Brass Anchor pub!!! Entertainment generally good. Did all shore excursions on my own which was easy enough as the ship docked pretty closed to town at all stops. Disembarkation process was excellent. All in all an excellent week cruising. Read Less

I am a cruiser of significant experience. I have sailed many days on Crystal, as well as having sailed on Seabourn, Holland America Line, Azamara Club Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, P&O Cruises, Royal Caribbean, Princess as well as the now defunct Transocean Tours' MS Marco Polo and Voyages of Discovery's much missed MV Discovery. I have sailed multiple times in the Mediterranean and Caribbean, as well as the Northwest Passage, Antarctica, South America, Asia, Alaska, Norway and the Baltics. Whenever I do a review, I review the ship against what it A) is pertaining to be, and B) value versus the price paid. In this sense, a Crystal cruise may not receive five stars if the voyage did not meet my high expectations, whilst a 3 night Norwegian Cruise Line voyage may rate higher if my substantially lower expectations were exceeded. In my opinion, the MSC Yacht Club product is the best value in luxury cruising. My wife and I are in our mid 20s, and we appreciated the fact that we had our own enclave aboard, where the crew quickly learnt our names and favourite drinks, but could at will descend into the melee of a mega-ship filled with energy, music, song and dance. The Yacht Club was in essence a haven (pun unintended), a quite, relaxing area, approximately the size of one the older Seabourn triplets, where it was easy to meet passengers and make friends, in a fashion that is usually impossible aboard a ship carrying several thousand passengers. One could then go and enjoy the entertainment and options available on the ship with said friends. The entertainment was of high quality, especially the Cirque de Soleil show. Every night a production show was presented, of which one can get tired of quite quickly, but they were of similar quality to shows I have seen on other mass-market lines. The overall ambiance of the vessel was international, which is something we really enjoyed about MSC, and the Meravilliga's interiors where nothing short of stunning. We did not try any eateries besides the Yacht Club restaurant and the buffet, so cannot comment on the quality of food in the rest of the ship. In the Yacht Club, the pantry always had food available, the drinks where of reasonable quality and weather permitting there was a barbecue or buffet available on the open private decks. The MSC Yacht Club restaurant offered food of a reasonable to high quality, with service that was great if not perfect, missing the finesse of service found on dedicated luxury lines. The butler aboard the Yacht Club was more of a room attendant, although you could always count on the ones serving in the Yacht Club lounge, for all intents a private observation lounge at the forward-most point of the vessel's superstructure. Lines where never a problem as we had dedicated lifts which we could override to give Yacht Club passengers express service, and the butlers where always at hand to walk you out or back on to the ship, skipping the sometimes substantial ques. In a similar fashion, after a very hectic day trying to get to the ship (trains on strike, taking a bus, taxis on strike, having to take several busses, etc.) the glasses of sparkling wine and welcome of the YC crew made our embarkation perfect. I can happily recommend the Meraviglia if you are a guest seeking a large cruise-ship experience in an international environment, with a value-driven luxury product, and for this value are willing to give up the extra refinements and finesse found on 'true' luxury lines. I am sure we will be sailing aboard an MSC vessel in the Yacht Club in the future. Read Less

Only take notice of negative reviews on here if you are looking for an English or US style cruise. If you are cosmopolitan, love a lively atmosphere, enjoy European food and are nice to staff then you will not find fault. The ship is magnificent, the staff were fantastic, the food was good. We took advantage of the all-Inc drinks and enjoyed a 3 dinner package ... Butchers Cut, Eataly and Cirque du Soleil. .. everything was perfect. Our balcony cabin was fantastic ... and yes the bathroom is smaller than on other MSC ships. .. but the shower was actually larger. Disembarkation for ports and day of departure extremely well organised. Much bigger ship than we have been on before and weren't sure if we would like it, we didn't ... We LOVED it. Fabulous entertainment from shows in the theatre to acts in the various bars and especially the animation team staff on the bridge in the Promenade. Only downside is we now need another holiday as we didn't get back to our cabin until the early hours every night! Thanks MSC! See you again soon. Read Less

So Before we went on this cruise I was tempted to change it due to all the negative reviews!!! Haha! I’m glad I didn’t Yes it has faults but it’s also an amazing ship with things to do all day Rude staff Yes they can be a bit grumpy but just talk to them get to know them! You will be amazed how quick they soon love you On our first night a party on deck We used the bar and the main bar man Vitaly was quite abrupt. Next day he apologized and said he was tired. Looked after us the rest of the cruise! Bars were clean and staff were good Brass anchor pub had fab bands on every night and the beer was lovely!!! We changed our restaurant sitting from early till late no problem Restaurant was clean and our waiter was good Like the smaller tables that have been introduced Food was good not massive portions but you could order more if you wanted Buffet was busy yes but we never had a time when we couldn’t get a table Problem is people getting food before getting a seat??? Weird in my book? But hey ! Breakfast was busy but just wait a bit later We bought a restaurant package that was cirque de solie, estaly and butchers cut. Amazing Great food and great value The central plaza is fab Great atmosphere and parties Found the spa to be expensive so give it a miss We liked how you are not set to a routine like on other msc ships The shows ran 3 times a night and you just booked on your msc for me app on your phone! Cabin was larger than normal but hanging space in the wardrobe is less Bathroom is smaller but shower is bigger with the new design And how long do you spend in the bathroom???? Unless your my wife !!! Loads of stuff to do and even on busy days you can still find tables and areas that are quiet. The pool at the back of the ship was empty every time we went to it Getting back on ship was sometimes busy and I don’t think staff should use the same entrance Ship was clean and beautiful All in all Meriviglia is a fab ship A few problems but hey it’s got 6000 people on what do you expect Be happy be respectful and you will love it Be rude be miserable you will hate it Have a good one !!!! What an experience! First ever cruise and what better way to experience cruising than with MSC Meraviglia. This is a trip I will not be forgetting! I want this to be an honest review, so below I’ve listed the positives along with the negatives and also given (I hope) some sound advice if you are thinking of sailing on MSC Meraviglia. The positives:- - The staff! They couldn’t do enough for us. So friendly and approachable. A special thank you to Halik (Waves Restaurant) you were amazing and so attentive. He quickly mastered what our favourite drink was and ensured our glasses were always full! Also to the guys who looked after and cleaned our room and changed the beds everyday. Amazing job! Thank you so much for everything! The standard was impeccable and they work so damn hard. You are all a credit to MSC! - This ship is spotless! Absolutely emaculate. Granted the ship is just over 1 years old but taking into account the shear size of her as well as the amount of passengers on board the ship is ridiculously clean! - The food/drink - Such a vast variety of food and drink on offer. In the evening we ate at our dedicated restaurant (Waves) where we were served a 3 course meal every evening with the night’s menu offering a range of dishes to choose from. Meanwhile, The Market Buffet which serves food (I believe) until 2am always had fresh, delicious food with a big range to choose from. At peak times it gets very busy yet the food just keeps coming out fresh! - You will never get bored whilst on board there is so much to do and places to explore! Now for the negatives (or things to look out for!) - I’m not saying us Brits are perfect, but goodness me some of our European neighbours were incredibly rude! We witnessed people clicking their fingers at staff and speaking to waiters/waitresses in the most patronising of ways. Never saying please or thank you. Absolutely horrific to see! Also, it would appear that certain nationalities do not know basic manners such as knowing how to queue and not push in (so frustrating!!) people would literally push you out of the way, tread on your feet to get to where they want (this 99% of the time happened in The Market Place Buffet where food is available (almost) 24/7. We even witnessed one family take two trays of burgers/hot dogs, leaving none left for anyone else queuing. Disgusting. Learn some damn manners. Excursions: What a rip off. Save your money!! I believe at least 5/7 places we visited during our 7 day cruise had shuttle buses on from the port at the cost of €12.99. They do not tell you this in advance! Allowing passengers to pay €50+ for excursions so they can access / get to the city centre which is completely unnecessary when the shuttle bus serves the exact same purpose! This being said there were of course some excursions which were more than just a coach trip to get you from A to B. But if you are booking trips through MSC just so you can get to the city centre etc do not bother. You’ll get a shuttle bus ticket on your door the night before you arrive at your next destination. (You are welcome!) Embarkation: What a long, long drawn out process. Be prepared for a very long wait!! We flew to Genoa, Italy. I do wonder if other destinations experienced as long a wait. Definitely would recommend avoiding Genoa if and when possible! After a short 1hr 30min flight we were taken straight to the port. The process up until this point was so smooth & fast! We arrive at the port in Genoa and there we waited for HOURS. The process wasn’t explained to us upon our arrival, we literally had to figure it out for ourselves. We were given a number, we soon figured we had to wait for our number to come up on a board. After waiting 2+ hours our number was finally called!! Up the escalator we went only to be met by another queue!!! This came with another 1 hour wait to get checked in. We then had to queue again to go through security when we were finally let on board. A very long process but totally worth it once you are on board the ship. Thankfully disembarkation is a lot quicker! Word of warning: You have to leave your suitcases outside your room the night before you leave. MSC did an amazing job ensuring our luggage was looked after and got to where it needed to be, we experienced no issues. But please know, you will need another form of bag for anything you need that night / the following morning before you fly home. We thankfully had a small case we used as hand luggage which were managed to throw everything into, avoiding any dramas. Additional/hidden charges: Check your bill before you leave!! We experienced double charges (which were later removed) and also a friend was charged €30.00 for a photo he never received! The queues to settle your bill at reception get exceptionally long! So word of warning, allow yourself plenty of time and check your invoice before you leave otherwise you may be in for a shock! There is a daily charity charge of €1 which goes to UNICEF (I believe) which we didn’t mind. However we did mind the daily €10 (per person!) service charge which gets added to your account automatically. (That’s €210 in service charge for us for the week) We decided to have this charge removed and paid out tips to our waiter/room attendants the night before we left, that way we know they’ve got the money. €10 a day per person soon adds up as you can imagine and not know where or who that money goes to concerned us. Other points to mention: Do not pack a hairdryer. It’ll be confiscated / kept away for safe keeping. A hair dryer is provided in the room & works absolutely fine and did the job. No tea/coffee facilities in the room which was a shame, but we understand why. If you buy a drinks package like we did you cannot use it on your day of departure! Also we couldn’t use ours on the day we arrived as it hadn’t been uploaded onto our access cards. All in all, we really enjoyed cruising with MSC. The ship is stunning, the staff are wonderful the inside of the ship is beautifully kept and so spacious. What a beautiful way to see Europe! Read Less

Chose this cruise because the ship was new, despite the negative reviews. We suffered none of the problems reported by the others 1. Check in was super quick, was done in about 10 minutes with zero length queues. You leave your bags at the port, and they show up outside your room in a couple of hours. Check in started at 1PM and the rooms were ready by about 2PM. There is a line for the info to activate your card using cash, however if you choose to do it by credit card there are machines to do so. 2. The cabin is well designed. The toilet is large and comfortable. We had 2 little children, so the sofa became a double bunk bed. There is a lot of space below the bed for the suitcases (we had 4!) and ample space in the cupboard. There are USB ports to charge the phones and large writing table for things and power sockets. The room is very well sound proofed, and the curtains can make the room completely dark. We took the large balcony, which had 2 chairs and a table 3. The Ship is spanking new and very stable. You can barely feel it move except for one day when they had to shut the pools due to the swaying. 4. The Dining was very good most days. For dinner and most lunches you can choose between the buffet and the restaurants that serve the same food. You are allocated a place for dinner and a head waiter, but you could also go to other restaurants. There is a on board mozzarella factory near the buffet. 5. There are 4 paid-for restaurants too. We never used them, but they seem value for money. The tepanyaki started at just Eur29 for instance. 6. The entertainment facilities for children were excellent. The staff are lively and much adored by our kids. We had a tough time getting our kids to return from the kids area on most days. You check them in and specify who could check them out. They have lego, art, craft, gaming, face painting, parades etc. They also take them to the kids area of the buffet for dinner. You can leave your kids there till 11PM. 7. There is an arcade with simulators etc, that is good for one or 2 visits 8. There are 17 bars spread over the ship, almost all of them full in the evenings. 9. The cirque-du-soliel was good, but not as good as the stuff you get at Vegas. We preferred the "Sonora" sound act over the Visual act. 10. The shows at the Broadway theatre were fabulous! We watched nearly each one and loved almost all. The cast is very versatile and pulls off many forms of singing and dancing with practiced ease. Near the theatre the bars have many evening entertainment programs that seem like fun and are staffed by very lively people. 11. The Service was good and the crew by and large friendly . There were a few instances of the opposite, but then other crew members made up for them. E.g. when I went in search for a banana at the buffet for my sick child, one member claimed if I couldnt see it, there probably wasnt a banana available. However member Ravi Bhosale over heard this, and got hold of one from the kitchens. Many thanks. 12. The excursions were horribly over priced. We took just one of them at the north cape and busted our budget. The problem with such a large ship visiting a small town is that the cab and transport facilities are sometimes overwhelmed. Arrange your own in advance if possible. 13. Embarking and disembarking at various ports was easy, except at one port where we had to tender, i.e. use the life boats to go the port. There systems broke down and tempers frayed. There were delays of upto 1.5 hours. 14. We took the fantastica package that had 12 drinks vouchers per head. Wifey obliged by not drinking much of her share, leaving me well hydrated throughout the trip. Some of the drinks are not available against these vouchers. 15. My kids would like you to know that there is no chocolate fountain on the ship, despite the official videos depicting one. They condemn this act of over selling. 16. There are many pools of which just one is heated. They use salt water. There is an unheated section with water slides that we used despite the freezing cold Overall it was great and the kids are already clamoring for another MSC cruise! Read Less

Embarkation in Genoa started off as a nightmare. It was disorganised, none of the staff knew where we had to go and the signage was very confusing. No sign of the Yacht Club tent until we finally got directions from a staff member who actually knew where the Yacht Club check in was. With suitcases, this was very stressful not helped by the fact that 2 ships were in at the same time. Our new butler, Maksim, was amazing. He was there if you needed him but left you alone if you didnt want anything. He was friendly and professional and always had time for a chat. Butlers tend to provide room service but they also serve in the Top Sail lounge and the One Pool Deck this gives a continuity of service as they know how you like drinks, etc. There are 3 places in the Yacht Club where you could get food (apart from room service) the One Pool Deck, the Top Sail lounge and the restaurant. You could also book in to one of the speciality restaurants although we didnt do this as the food was so good in the Yacht Club. Main buffet: We ate in the main buffet twice and we had no problem getting a seat. The button on each table to ask for drinks was a really nice touch and the service was quick and friendly. Food here was nice although there were some strange combinations of food which made it difficult to have a complete meal. However, you could get burgers, hot dogs and pizza here. Yacht Club One Pool Deck: Here you could have casual breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks. We had roast beef, chicken parmigiana and salmon amongst others and the food was generally good but was sometimes a bit lukewarm. This place is great if the weather was good but you couldnt eat up here if it was cold. You also had a full range of drinks including some very nice wines such as Chablis and Pinot Grigio. Top Sail lounge: There was a small buffet of cold snacks such as sandwiches, cakes and nuts. You could also get sushi here and they had canapes before dinner. You could also take high tea here between 4-5pm where you had a 3 tier cake and sandwich stand with a selection of sandwiches, cakes and scones with jam and real clotted cream. If you wanted any other sandwiches, you only needed to ask and they would get you some. They also had a selection of loose leaf teas which were served from the trolley. A very civilised experience. Yacht Club Restaurant: This was open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The first night was really good and Ajay was efficient. However, the second night started out as a disaster, so much so that we tried to walk out. It took an age for the menus to arrive, we didnt get any drinks and the waiter couldnt understand what we wanted. When we walked out, we were stopped by the Restaurant Supervisor Massimo who was very concerned and persuaded us to stay. He seated us in another section of the restaurant and our new waiter, Miljan, was amazing. He served us for the rest of our cruise and we didnt want for anything. He got to know what wines we liked and recommended some new ones which were good to try. He also tailored the dishes and had a really good sense of humour. He knew how to tailor the service based on our personality and attitude. We never had an issue getting a table bar one night (tables were available but not in Miljans section) so we were asked to go to the Top Sail lounge and Massimo came to collect us as soon as a table was ready. He generally got us the same table every night which was nice. Joyce, the Assistant Waiter, was also really good remembering that we liked still water and what type of bread we generally like. Miljan and Massimo really made our cruise special and we were quite emotional when we left the last night. Massimo also organised an anniversary meal for us with a specially cooked dish and a bottle of champagne. The entertainment on board ranged from dire to quite good. It seemed that MSC has spent all the money on Cirque du Soleil on board and not had much left for the other entertainment. We did not go to see Cirque du Soleil as it is not our cup of tea but there were spaces available every night for the shows for both the meal and drink options. Highlights: Yacht Club and the Meraviglia itself is amazing Always loungers available even on the main decks (never busy on the One Deck even on sea days) Service was impeccable Food was of a very good standard with some great wines recommended The butler service was amazing including getting on and off the ship The button on the buffet tables to get a drink worked really well Concierge and room service were excellent Loved the pillow menu. This was our 14th cruise and our first on MSC. As we got closer to our sail date, (April 1), started to get nervous about the poor reviews. Well, those worries left us when we boarded in Genoa. we had a large suite and were in the Yacht Club, so the service is unbelievable. Food, drink, butler service was out of this world. Yes, we were in the Yacht Club, had our own bar, restaurant and pool area, so this review is skewed as we were on a ship within a ship. That being said, we thought the entire ship was beautiful. Ate at Butchers Cut and the Japanese restaurant and were thoroughly impressed. All staff were courteous and the shows were very good. Now, I can see where some people had issues with this cruise. A few times walking around the ship, I was amazed by the amount of people that we saw. Pools, promenade, Jacuzzis seemed to be packed. others that we would have a drink with stated the same observation. Also, be prepared to hear announcements in numerous languages. It will start to wear on you. Excursions: Had a great time on all. The one to Rome was LONG. I think everyone on bus slept on the way back! Others in all ports were good. Best was a private tour out of Genoa to Portofino. BEAUTIFUL Also, the butler takes you on and off the ship at all ports. You by-pass all lines. This includes lines for all shows. This is a great perk of the Yacht Club. Just be prepared for people staring and mumbling under their breath!!) Overall, we loved MSC and in huge part to the yacht club. we will definitely cruise with them again Read Less

The just about 1 year old cruise liner 'MSC Meraviglia' is a great ship with lots of attractions, sights and well designed and elegant interior. She sailed a little bit unstable, reacting more intense to waves, given her size. Strong winds additionally increased the cruise experience with rolling and pitching a little more than other cruise liners of comparable sizes. The weather was like a diva on this cruise, majority of nights were stormy, and there were only 3 more or less sunny and warm days. In the night 4 days before departure of the ship, I received an eMail with a reissue of my cruise ticket, containing an information about a cabin number change, which actually was an upgrade to the 'Yacht Club'. The MSC 'Yacht Club' is a separate area with suites and luxury staterooms. Admission is granted for passengers - called 'Members' - of those staterooms only. The 'Yacht Club' offers to its guests an own reception with concierge, a butler service, the 'Top Sail Lounge', open nearly all day with a bar and delicious snacks, as well as the own sun deck with pool, whirl pool and the 'MSC Yacht Club Pool Buffet', where the guests can eat and drink open air. Regular meals are served in the 'MSC Yacht Club Restaurant', with service at the tables. I prefer buffet restaurants, and if you don't know about the great variety of food in the 'Marketplace Buffet' restaurant, you may miss something, or even a lot. The 'Yacht Club' on 'MSC Meraviglia' spans over 5 decks behind and above the bridge, with 80 balcony suites and 15 smaller interior staterooms, the 'Yacht Club' has its own elevator and stairs in a small atrium. The lounge and the restaurant give a good view over the bow, as well as the sun deck, but there is no glass free outlook to the bow for photography; furthermore, most of the sun deck area is covered with some sort of sun sails. Among the amenities in the 'Yacht Club' are priority at boarding, security and even elevators, free beverages, fruits on the stateroom, a chocolate praliné on the pillow and other things. Embarkation and disembarkation, as well as leaving and boarding the ship for excursions, were always fast without long queues. The security drill in the theater took just 20 minutes and was held in different languages, even Japanese and Mandarin. Orientation on 'MSC Meraviglia' was a little bit more easier than on other ships, with stateroom numbers separated into even on starboard and odd on port side of the ship, with signs in the staircase halls. I noticed longer waiting times at the elevators sometimes, but they were an artwork of mirrors and very fast. The passengers were from many different nations, even lots of people from Asia, very international atmosphere on board, majorities were people from Italy, Spain and Germany. Many kids were on board; I also saw people in wheel chairs and with rollators. The staff was very friendly, caring and attentive, not just in the 'Yacht Club', but everywhere. American way of communication and dealing with things, I was addressed in German language sometimes. The 'Reception Guest Service' on deck 5 was not very frequented most of the time and the ship generally did never appear crowded to me. I am a buffet type of passenger, and I preferably avoid long sessions in the main dining room, I did not eat in the main dining room therefore. The 'Marketplace Buffet' restaurant was open from 06:00am till midnight, guests can stay casual and do not need to dress up. Plastic table ware was used, but the offered food was more than very good, with a great choice and variety, even for breakfast. The quality was excellent, the delicacies from the patisserie extremely good. There was an 'Ethnic Corner' with food from different parts of the world, and genuine Italian pizza was included in the cruise fare as well. Tab water was always complimentary from dispensers, many different beverages for breakfast as well. Other beverages could be ordered at the table, soft drinks were delivered in cans of 330ml each, water in bottles. Mostly, I had no problem of getting a free table, but I repeatedly noticed a scarcity of teaspoons. The nicely done hand wash niches at the entrance were used by very few guests. On the 'Galleria Meraviglia', many shopping opportunities and events. From my observation, the ship is very kid friendly, toys are being offered in the shop, as well as candy, potato chips and chocolate for example, even cheaper than at the airport. There is also a small pharmacy, and the MSC shop offers gifts and clothes at affordable prices even in my size. Also on the 'Galleria Meraviglia', there are some luxury boutiques, the 'Jean-Philippe Chocolate & Coffee' chocolaterie, the 'Brass Anchor' pub, the 'Kaito Sushi Bar' and the 'Eataly Food Market', where guests can taste and learn about Italian food, as well as purchase some of the things. Entertainment for everybody was provided nearly all around the clock at different locations on board, a little bit limited due to the bad weather, that was not allowing pool parties. Many activities were on the 'Daily Program', in the gym and the indoor and outdoor pool areas with some whirlpools, and of course in the 'MSC Aurea Spa' wellness area. I did not book any of the excursions offered in a big variety, all my tours were self organized. Internet access worked very fast only in the few night hours, the system was obviously repeatedly a little bit overloaded during daytime. I usually had to click the 'Start' button twice, to activate the internet access. Sometimes, it was helpful to log out and log in again, when the connection was too slowly. The 'MSC For Me' app is available for guests with smartphone or tablet, the guest can - for example - monitor on-board expense accounting, see deck plans and log in to the internet via WLAN / WiFi, also possible at address 'login.mscwifi.com', using the ID from the Cruise Card, bandwidth usage was shown at log in and log out. Features are offered to guests on the interactive screens in the staircases as well. Thank you 'MSC Cruises', for a wonderful cruise with so good food and your warm Mediterranean hospitality on meravigliosa 'MSC Meraviglia'! Read Less

We are avid cruisers, Platinum on Carnival, Emerld on Royal in addition to other lines with single or double cruises. This was our first time with MSC and probably not the last. We chose this cruise and ship based on itinerary, date and cost. They all fit so we booked it almost a year in advance. I was very concerned reading all the reviews coming in from the beginning to the time we sailed. I know these reviews are just opinions of others and everyone’s expectations are different but I’m really surprised at all the negative comments about this ship. We sailed in the Yacht Club Deluxe suite and the rooms were wonderful. Very similar to the other suites we have done on the other lines but the addition of the coffee maker and stocked refrigerator made this just a step above them. Service and food quality were exceptional throughout the ship. We did see most of the shows at the Broadway Theatre and thought they were all done and produced well. The only slow show was the operetta, but that’s not to say it was bad, Vocally the two opera singers were great It just isn’t our style of entertainment. The ports and excursions were all very interesting. We bought the excustions through MSC beforehand and took advantage of a 15% off sale. Prices were more reasonable than other ships we have been on. We purchased the pre paid picture deal. 100 pictures for $99. We couldn’t have enough pictures taken to fill the order. We left with 90. The problem is we don’t know what we are going to do with all the pictures. But if you want a lot of pictures it is surely a great value. Overall, a cruise is what you make of it. Go in with an open mind and pay no attention to the negative and positive reviews. Make your own opinions based on you own experience. We are already looking for another MSC cruise as we feel they out performed Carnival and Royal for the money. Bon Voyage djp Read Less

Initially I was concerned with some of the reviews that we had read. We decided to continue with the cruise and this was the best decision we could have done. Yes the cruise was different than the US based cruise lines but if you are going to sail with a Eupoean ship, keep an open mind...be willing to experience other types of cruises. The ship was clean and the staff was wonderful. We booked the angled balcony suite with the external jacuzzi. This cabin included the Aurea experience which allowed us to do priority boarding, free choice of dining time, unlimited drinks and two massages (one per two adults). There was so much to do on the ship, so even if you with to skip a port of call, you will not regret it. We really could not understand how some passengers had negative experiences. My suggestion to anyone that chooses to read this review is to understand that everyone is different and therefore expectations are also different. For us, we chose to create our own wonderful memories upon this beautiful vessel! Read Less

After we had booked our cruise many months before sailing we were really worried about the reviews We were very surprised to find that what most had complained about we didn't feel the same Embarkation went really smoothly We found the choice of food in the main restaurant and in the buffet to be very tasty and enjoyed good service at all times The Entertainment was ok We thought that all staff were very polite at all times especially drinks and food waiters Exiting and re boarding the ship was well organised everyday with the card system which does make things easier The ship itself is fantastic with the ceiling in main walkway forever changing it looks amazing We liked many of the bars to just sit and relax and have a drink We really enjoyed our cruise with msc and would certainly cruise again as we found it good value for the price we paid up other cruises of same standard Thank You. This was our first cruise and first trip to Europe. The ship left from Civitavecchia but since we wanted to see Rome we arrived a day early and stayed across from the Coliseum. It was about an hour and 50 Euros to get the terminal. Embarkation was well organized and straight forward. Our cabin wasn't quite ready but it gave us time to explore the ship a little before it got too crazy. Even though there were 4000 people on the ship it was always clean and never felt over crowded. The food was good. Some items were very good, others were not but there was always something that I liked. The Eataly was not worth the extra money. It was no better than the dining room. The other al a carte were very good and reasonable. Here's the only thing you MUST remember. Know your drink package and how it works. My bill at the end was only slightly more than the daily tip while others had hundreds of Euros to pay. They always let you know what the charge will be so pay attention and you will be fine. We only had one issue when dining with people that took our assigned seating and would not move. The staff quickly dealt with the issue and sat us without too much fuss. Our cabin was always immaculate. Cleaned twice a day and never saw a single issue in any of the public areas. The excursions were pretty good. Only the one time we had an issue with language. We were one of only 2 English speaking couples that wanted the tour and we had to tag along with the Spanish group. They tried to accommodate us. The port in Malta is by far the prettiest and best for hopping off to see. Literally a 5 min walk to some very interesting sites. Make sure to settle up the night before or to activate your credit card on their system. If you had no bill then disembarkation was well organized and relatively stress free. As a North American there was a little culture shock because the locals are used to being more forceful in a crowd but a little getting used to and you get the system. Read Less

After reading some of the reviews we were wondering what we’d let ourselves in for. We needn’t have been concerned, the ship was lovely, spotlessly clean, cabin although a little smaller than most, was very comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful. Plenty of entertainment. The theatre, and the Circe de Soliel were excellent. Although there were many nationalities on board English was the first language. The food was good, all tastes catered for in the buffet diner and specialty restaurants. Maybe a bit on the expensive side, but we were on holiday. The only disappointment was the weather. We enjoyed Rome, and Valletta.Barcelona and Marseilles were the proverbial wash out. We are going to the Caribbean next month so hopefully we shall find the sunshine there, again we go with MSC, although not the same ship. I’m not going to read any reviews before I go, as we had a very good experience last time I shall look forward to the same. Read Less

Well, what can we say after reading all the negativity about this ship! Don't listen to all the negativity, we thought it was fabulous and would go back on board in the blink of an eye! I got quite tearful as we had to disembark as we truly never wanted our cruise to end. Embarkation went smoothly, perfect from Barcelona. We spent 3 days in a hotel before boarding and loved Barcelona too. I was starting to feel quite nervous about our choice of ship with all the review on here but as soon as we boarded and went to the bar on our classic all inclusive package to order our cocktails, I felt a huge sigh of relief, it was fabulous! Every cocktail we had was beautifully served by polite friendly crew, who we found so chatty and friendly and couldn't do enough for us! The cabin was just an inside but we found it to be one of the biggest cabins we have ever had and the bathroom was beautiful too. The ship is quite stunning, beautiful staircases, the entertainment was excellent, the shows were all very good. Particularly loved the flamenco show. The only thing I would not return to would be the Cirque du soleil Viaggio show, but other people seemed to enjoy it so perhaps just our opinion. The waiters were so friendly and if the food was not to your liking would quite happily exchange if for something else with a smile! Also, if we loved something we quite often ordered another one! The kids club looked amazing too. We spent many evenings dancing and enjoying wonderful cocktails and meeting some really lovely people. We would have no hesitation in returning for another cruise on the Merravigglia, a beautiful ship. Read Less

We chose this cruise for a family Christmas holiday and prior to leaving I became very anxious after reading all the negative reviews. We had an amazing week on board a beautiful ship and not one of our group of seven had any complaints. Embarkation was the quickest and most efficient I have experienced. It was as quick as boarding as a Yacht Club passenger which we have done in the past. Disembarkation was as good and undoubtedly the best I have had in my over 10 cruises. Personnel were amazingly friendly and good at their tasks, from waiters to cabin staff. Even those working the administration side were helpful. We only had reason to use them twice and never waited more than 7 minutes each time. Considering there are so many passengers I find this exceptional. Food was good and varied and came to the table quickly and hot. We had breakfast in both the restaurant and the buffet. Divine eggs Benedictine. I found the portions sufficient but if you have a healthy appetite there is absolutely no problem on taking everything on the menu. It is served with a smile. I highly recommend the drinks package. We also ate at Eataly and the Teppinyaki. Both were excellent. The shows we saw were enjoyable. Cirque de Soleil was cancelled the night we had reserved for but this was due to bad weather. Understandable considering the nature of the show We were fully reimbursed. The balcony cabins we occupied were comfortable with excellent beds and the storage space is sufficient for a week. The bathroom with shower was perfect for a cruise ship. All was spotless and remained that way for the duration. The attention given to kiddies is amazing. Our 6 year grandson did not want the cruise to end. The staff are to be highly commended. We never used any of the tours offered so I am not in a position to comment. The gym has modern equipment and the spa is fabulous. So, for all those people out there who have done nothing but complain, perhaps they should start questioning themselves. Are they generally complainers and always dissatisfied? Read Less

From embarking to disembarking, the cabin and meals, entertainment and staff...an absolute experience, pleasure and value for money. 19 Floors of absolute luxury makes you think you're somewhere in a 5 star hotel. Everything was well organized and the friendly and helpful staff assisted if there were any confusion about anything. Although the breakfast and lunch menus didn't change dinner was always a treat and special experience. A busy entertainment program and so many other activities didn't allow for a single dull moment. Maybe we chose the wrong time of the year as there were some really cold days off the ship, but on board it was really pleasant and we even enjoyed a day or two at the Aqua Park and on the Himalayan bridge. I will recommend this cruise for anyone...from the elderly to families with babies. My family and I will definitely choose another MSC holiday in the near future. Read Less

Embarkation was very smooth. We did have the Aurea Package which meant we basically just walked right on. We waited till noon to get to the port and we were on the ship within 30 mins of being dropped off by the taxi. Our cabin was amazing we had the duxplex suite. The layout was great. We were upstairs so my husband and I had privacy but we were never more than an earshot from our young children. Two bathrooms was wonderful and we all enjoyed the hot tub :) Again I am not sure why there are so many complaints about the dinning. We had no issues. Each night we would find something to eat in the MDR that was really good. We also ate at Butcher's Cut, Kaito Teppanyaki and Eataly-Food Market. All were excellent. A must try is Butcher's Cut it was AMAZING!! We did go to most of the shows and enjoyed some of them. This would be the only area that could be improved on but I think this is due to the amounts of different languages spoken onboard. While we did go see both Cirque shows they were good but in our opinion they were not "must sees". We found the service to be very good to excellent in most cases.....but it was European service. Which for us is not a problem since we live in europe :) and are use to the not "in your face service". Service is very different in Europe than in American and since this ship is European it was what to be expected. We had one issue with a Bartender that was immediately taken care of. The Ports were good. We loved Malta the most...what an amazing place!! We did have to skip Rome due to bad weather. We did not use any MSC excursions. All the ports on our route are very doable by yourself. The kids had a great time! They enjoyed the kids clubs but there was a little bit of a language barrier. We would suggest MSC to others with the understanding that you get what you pay for (book a higher package if you want more perks) and that it is a European ship. For the money it was an amazing vacation and we are headed back to sea this May on the MSC Divina (We booked onboard and got an amazing deal for the Yacht Club :) Read Less

We had a wonderful time on our cruise, we chose to take breakfast in bed, oh so relaxing looking at the view through our balcony doors. The ship is stunning and beautifully decorated for Christmas and for such a large ship we had no trouble finding seats in bars and lounges or the theatre. We ate in the Waves restaurant and our waiters were so attentive and friendly, the food was fine for us, wine very palatable, and water on the table. We had the all inclusive drinks package, such good value. The theatre entertainment was really good the team work so hard and we thoroughly enjoyed every show. Ports of call we did our own thing so can’t comment on ship trips. Embarkation and disembarkation went very well, no waiting. All the staff and Officers we met were so friendly and smiley, made some lovely memories and would cruise with MSC again. We have been on many cruises all different lines and this was our first MSC cruise, we were very satisfied. Read Less

I had read a lot of bad reviews and was a bit worried if our so much wanted cruise would be as exciting as we anticipated. Yes, it was. Let me first note that we were first time cruisers. Joined Meraviglia from Naples, Italy. The embarkation was a bit frustrating as there were no clear signs where is the drop of luggage section - it appeared to be in the other wing of the port. Then we waited a long line with no seating options. Once we gave our suitcase we were assigned a number which meant we had to spend a few more hours in the waiting area. Of course we used the time to explore out and about, but in general the embarkation was very exhausting experience. Once we got aboard we were met by the kids club staff who put a wristband to our 5yo so he could be easily tracked and signed at different activities. There was no other kind of welcome on board. We had to find our own way to the elevators and cabin. Not that we didn't manage but it was somehow annoying. I don't know how it is organized on the other ships- here we felt a bit like dropped in the deep. Cabin- Apart from that first experience the rest was fantastic. We got newsletters every night so we would know what the schedule for the next day was. the cabin- inside on Deck 13- there was enough room for all 3 of us- 2 Adults 1 child. We had 2 wardrobes, a good size bed, the kid's bunk bed was also a good size- he enjoyed going up and down the ladder. The bathroom was bigger than expected. Very good ventilation system- our swimsuits and small washing dried up very quickly. The TV in the cabin was showing screens from two of the ship's cameras so we felt like we had a window- this was the first thing in the morning- switch on the TV to see where we are. The cabin steward was a nice guy- these people work so hard from dusk to down and even more. We would get up very early in the morning- he's seen in the corridor, going back to the cabin past 10pm- he's still folding towels. One day I pushed the DND button just to give him some rest. The policy of tiding up cabin 2 times a day is a bit too much for me. Dining- We ate dinner 3 times in the restaurant and the rest in the buffet. The restaurant was nice - Olive D'Doro on deck 6. The waiters, the atmosphere, the tables layout- fantastic. The food- delicious but minor portions. Even if you eat lunch at the port, you get back to the ship at around 4:30-5pm (5:30 is all aboard time) so you need some snack to bite. Go up to the buffet- mainly hot dogs and hamburgers. OK wait for dinner, already starving eat a small portion of food and then end up in the buffet again. And actually we enjoyed the buffet food at the proper meals times. Big variety of salads, meat, pasta, bread, vegetables, desserts- everything for everybody. Entertainment- Fantastic shows, we saw 4 shows and Cirque Du Soleil. From the regular shows we enjoyed Way and Paz the most. The kids club is also a very well organized. There's entertainment for the kids all the time. The girls take them not only in the play areas but for some movies down in the theater, for games in the sports zone, there are constantly some activities for the kids. Also there is fun dinner time in the buffet, so you can dine in the restaurant or in the buffet and they will entertain and feed your child. Unfortunately among all the variety of food in the buffet they feed the kids hamburgers and fires - even my 5yo said it's not healthy food and didn't want to eat with them the following days, although he enjoyed the rest of the daily program. We couldn't attend any of the dancing classes, Master Chef or other entertainment as we were too tired from the onshore exploring, but we were very impressed by the variety of activities offered. Even if we had 7 days at sea there would be something new to everyday. The musicians were all fantastic. I can't say a bad word for the entertainment- just fantastic! We were very happy with the pools- all with warm water even the outdoor one. The jacuzzys were also very pleasant (quite packed most of the time though). I only missed a changing room at the pool area. We got a bit cold as we had to walk in wet towels back to the cabin and even though we were inside we could still feel some some air drаught. Service- all in all we were very happy with everybody. Yes, some of the staff seemed tired, but they were never rude. We are please with the interactive info screens and the mobile app. We did not have the need to visit reception. Although the lack of the human touch in communication felt a bit like a 'self-service-luxury'. Ports- we enjoyed all the ports. The only con was in Marseille where the ship docks really far from the center and if you want to use the free port shuttle you have to walk over a kilometer through the windy port, then wait 20 min for the shuttle, then travel over 15min to get to a transport hub. It's so much waste of time. Of course there is a transfer from the ship which is approx Eur12.00 per adult. Having in mind it was 3 of us- we would had to spend more than Eur30.00 just to reach to the city. Drink package- We are not big drinkers so we only bought prepaid vouchers for caffeine drinks and soft drinks. They were absolutely enough. At dinner we bought water from the restaurant (approx Eur3,00 for a 1l bottle). In the buffet there was free water and juice. We ordered a glass of wine once or twice and it was absolutely enough for us. Even if we had a full drinks package I don't know if we'd drink more. There's simply no time for it. In the morning you have free coffee and juice in the buffet, then spend the whole day onshore, get back in the late afternoon, have a refreshing shower and get ready for dinner, then dine, watch a show and eventually spend some more time on the top deck to enjoy the nice breeze and that's all- time for bed. All in all it was a great experience for us. And we would definitely go again! Read Less

Service exemplary throughout the ship. *all but highest end alcohol is included in Yacht Club. I kept track We had 74 drinks and two bottles of free Prosecco. *top-notch food in YC Dining Room AND specialty restaurants, eg Anchor Pub and Butcher,s Cut. Excellent Chef’s Table in EATALY, GREAT PIZZA. *TWO Cirque Shows, production shows fun as well EXCEPT see below *terrific itinerary that included Messina, Naples (we visited Sorrento),Marseille, Malta and Barcelona (don’t miss the Maritime Museum). Lowlights? *Wish they had told us about the planned transportation strike in Genoa when we disembarked. Cost us over $200 to get to Milan. *godawful on-board computer and television system—their website is poor as well. No reason it should be so poorly designed. *Poor meal at Cirque Show dinner—not up to high standards in YC. Mushy fish, overcooked vegetables at a meal we paid extra for. Would opt for cocktail show in future) seats are better at cocktail show as well. *hands down MAGIC FRIENDS is the lamest magic show in the history of the universe. *very limited storage in interior cabin, tiny closet *small casino with impossibly slow bar service Read Less

The size of the ship was enormous, but very well organised. Our cabin was an indoor-cabin, but for the prize it was ok. The air was nice and fresh and there was almost no noise. The Dining was excellent, we had a fixed dinner table in the restaurant on deck 6. The lunch buffet on deck 15 contained a lot of dishes and all kinds of food to choose among. The only disadvantage was the noise from all the passengers. The walls and room surfaces had no noise-reducing materials, they were hard and just enforced the noise. We therefore took the breakfast on the restaurant in deck 5. The entertainment was excellent. The theater group Cirque du Solei was just fantastic, The shows in the theater on the front of deck 6 was warious, some of the shows did not match exact our taste, but ok. The service was ok, the waitors were kindly and helpful. The ports were interesting, I will mention the excursion to Pompei as a definite highlight of the cruise. Read Less
