Efficiently administered and executed by first rate crew and staff who genuinely do all possible to ensure ones cruise does not disappoint. The cabins (sorry; state rooms) are well arranged and kept spotless by the tireless and equally charming housekeepers. The vessel is beautifully designed and even when full, allows one to find tranquility. Blissfully child free which is the main reason we initially considered Viking. The food is generally very good and we had very few disappointments in any of the various dining options. Bar staff were obliging and on the whole adequate in number to serve fairly promptly. Negatives are modest in the context of the cruise; - no in cabin music options, unusually no standard/Greek style breakfast yogurt (the chef allegedly says they taste the same as the stocked fat free alternatives!) and for our taste, sadly the vast majority of cocktails are unpalatably sweet and gloopy due to the almost universal use of fruit syrups which removes the freshness and sophistication that a cocktail should offer. Great gym and spa. The pool area is lovely BUT has the characteristics and temperature of a hot house when the retractable roof is closed and with no shade provided on deck can restrict one to the interior amenities which can be a shame. Otherwise a thoroughly lovely cruise in the company of courteous guests and staff that allowed optimum time ashore on the principle islands of the Caribbean. Pitty the intrusive neighboring vessels at certain ports made little attempt at similar standards! Read Less

I took a Danube River cruise in 2015 for my first Viking cruise and thought it was the most amazing cruise I ever took. But then I went on a Viking Ocean cruise and was amazed again. The size of the ship is great. I so enjoyed a great deal I got on a junior suite and airfare and enjoyed this cruise more than I thought possible. Was amazed at the great food on board. The specialty restaurants are wonderful. The afternoon tea around the pool was so amazing (and I don't really like tea). So much entertainment on board and great tours just keep adding to the "Viking sailing experience." The staff on the ship go above and beyond the needs of each customer. Room are kept in great shape and so clean. Love the heated floors in the bathrooms, especially in cooler weather. All areas of the ship are pristine. Ever worker on board is friendly and helpful. Only thing I would have liked to know was how much of Barcelona I would see on the included tour and how much more there was to see with another purchased tour. Being this was my first ocean cruise with the company and first trip to Barcelona, I had no idea how big the city was and how much to see. With the new Facebook groups out there, I now have a good place to get this kind of information. And there are so many people in these groups that have the same opinion that I have - Viking is the best company to sail with! I have just recently had to decide between a Rhine river cruise or an ocean cruise. My friend and I weighed all the options and decided on a trip from Athens to Venice in 2019. Our decision to do another ocean cruise was (1) amazing destination; (2) fabulous food and great room service; (3) great excursions; and (4) beautiful new ship we'll be sailing on (the Jupiter). Can't wait for next year to get here! Read Less

The destinations and shore excursions available, along with a fair price for the cruise were the main reasons we chose Viking. We would not be able to visit those islands nor Tunisia if we traveled independently. The guides were great, the food spectacular, the whole staff was so good to us. How could we not enjoy ourselves? The bonus for us was the two spectacular lecturers, Peter Mawby and Kate Williams were both enriching and entertaining. Two criticisms: the listening device to take on shore excursions was awful. So much time was wasted fiddling with them because they were off more than they were on. For the tea drinkers, please have a hot water kettle in the room so we don't have to go up to the World Cafe or order room service. Thank you very much for the high tea each afternoon. That was wonderful, especially when coming back to the ship from sightseeing. No we didn't get to explore Civitavecchia because it started raining when we got there. Both embarkation and disembarkation were flawless. Viking making flight plans from and to Kansas City with our flight home from Paris was just perfect. Our cabin was just right for two people and Gi-Gi took good care of us, stopping to visit when we were in our hall. I sure do miss the omelet man. He remembered exactly what I wanted and gave me a big smile to start my day! Also, thank you for the gifts you sent to my sister and I before the trip. We used the adapter all across France after the cruise. The wi-fi worked great while we were on the ship. We had a real good time! Read Less

Picked this cruise because the ports were places we had not visited. Enjoyed the our room, only problem were the heated floors they would not turn of but that was taken care of as soon as the staff was informed. Our stay in Valencia Spain was cut short (only by hours) because high winds were forecasted that might delay our departure out of Barcelona. There is not a bad meal on the ship. We found the food selection to be varied enough to please most palates. My husband ordered room service food, it was fresh and hot. Shore excursions on the most part fit the bill to be informative and give you an overview of the country/island. We have a list of to do things when we go back We seem to have run out of time so saw some of the entertainment , which was good but did not have the time to do enrichment talks The port talks were "great". I chose this cruise to be able to see multiple countries and culture rich in history. We were not disappointed. This is an all outside stateroom ship with every stateroom having a balcony. Embarkation and disembarkation were easy and quick. And with only 930 passengers not crowded. We went right to our room and our luggage arrived within 10 minutes. The multiple options for dinning are wonderful, and not having dress up except for no jeans was great for me. The fact that beer and wine are included during lunch and dinner is also a plus. There is a launderette on each deck including detergent. This makes packing light easy. In each port we chose to take the included excursion, as these are already a part of your cabin cost. The knowledge of the guides on each tour in each port was more than expected. The crew was very attentive and warm. We would cruise again with Viking and are already planning our next Viking cruise. We had been on a couple Viking river cruises and wanted to try a Viking ocean cruise. We were on the maiden voyage of the Viking Sky, a beautiful ship. I was sorry we did not have more time to explore the ship. Hopefully we will be able to return one day. Service by any and all staff members was excellent. The shore excursions could improve, and as was mentioned by someone else the timing of the excursions could improve. Other than that I only have positive remarks for our over all experience. The food and service in the dining rooms was fantastic. I would recommend trying all three of the main dinning rooms. Viking did not let us down. The one item that sticks out the most to me was how pleasant, nice and polite the entire staff was. There was a great blend of people on the staff and they ere all very well trained. Read Less

We had a wonderful time on our Viking ocean cruise in the Mediterranean from Rome to Barcelona. The ship was impeccable, the tours were well organized and interesting. Our meals were excellent, except for our dinner at the Chef's Table which we thought the pairings were not well thought out. We made our reservation for the Chef's Table and when seated found out that the main course was Cod paired with a selected wine. Two of the four diners did not like fish so the only substitute was rice & vegetables?? After 2 cruises, my opinion of the Chef's Table is that it is a pretentious way to serve a meal that is really a tasting not a dinner selection for the diners. You can tell that Chef's Table is not as popular as the other restaurant just by looking at how quiet it is at 7PM as compared to Manfredi's or the main Restaurant. The port visits although well organized are not always 'tourist ready'. There were two port visits that were weak only because the port itself is lacking somewhat on what it shows the travelers. The 2 ports that were not up to the high quality of all the other port stops were Naples and Tunis. Naples was just a large 'dirty' city with graffiti de-facing many beautiful old buildings. In my opinion, it was the weakest port visit. Then Tunis Tunisia was just not ready to show off it's worldly sites because of the instability of the country. It had some political interest but too restrictive in it's present condition. All the other ports were great especially Valencia and Barcelona. The port talks and historian talks were helpful and informative. We traveled as 2 couples and thought the cruise was perfect. Read Less

Viking was recommended to my husband and I by a family member who went on a Viking cruise. We were amazed by their experiences and wanted to experience it first hand. The ship was amazing! We loved it from the moment we boarded the ship. The people working on the ship greeted us and were so friendly and professional the entire trip. They actually remembered our names every time they would greet us. The room was wonderful. It had everything we needed. I was also impressed by the size of the room plus the balcony. The bathroom was spacious and loved the heated floors. Everything about the ship was amazing and so beautiful. We enjoyed the options for eating and really enjoyed the gatherings in the evenings to discuss the activities the next day. We experienced excursions every day and had so much fun meeting new people. We enjoyed the spa at the end of each day. It was so relaxing. I have recommended this cruise to friends and family and some of them are actually taking cruises this year! We can't wait to sail again with Viking. I have to be honest, we'll never cruise on any other cruise line. Viking spoiled us!! Read Less

The ship was absolutely lovely with very good and comprehensive features. The cabin was well fitted out but perhaps slightly smaller than we expected. The bathroom was great but the room did not have enough drawers. The veranda is small. We booked the cruise late and Viking seemed to struggle to get all the paperwork to us which gave minor problems. The daytime entertainment was poor with not enough to do - we had 8 days at sea; the lecturers were good and evening entertainment good with six excellent singers. The Cruise Director was likeable. Food was good though we went mainly to Manfredis the Italian restaurant which we liked a lot. The main restaurant often was slow. The wine with the meals was bottom of the range. The 'free' excursions were very good with one of the four perhaps below standard. Excellent guides. This will suit cruisers who want a bit of luxury and with plenty of cosseting. Excursions are a bit safe. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the destinations, and the Viking name. Loved the River cruise and wanted to try the ocean. They needed to work with the service recognizing people with the silver package. Food was very good. The Chef's table little disappointing for us regarding selection of food, but enjoyed the wine. Favorite meals in the Restaurant and lunch in World Cafe. The tours had too many details regarding history, not enough free time to look around. I would have like some information and little more exploring the local shops. The entertainment was fantastic, the band, Synchrony had wonderful music and we enjoyed dancing every night, which was not on the River cruise. The Viking Sky Singers were wonderful young entertainers, they socialized and made us seniors feel very special. The crew were all very friendly and helpful. The ship was excellent and had everything we wanted, Wintergarder was beautiful. We must have enjoyed our cruise because we did book another cruise that was sailing to Australia on the ship. Also free laundry on each floor so that I was able to do laundry when I wanted. The room staff was friendly and always near by. The shore excursions were great - so were free and some I opted for extended tours and was never disappointed. The dining was wonderful and we tried all resuarants, morning, noon and night. We have done other "big" ship cruises and have said "never again". We loved the itinerary, to begin with "Rome to Barcelona". Loved being on a smaller ship!! Actually, met many new people which is really not possible on other ships. The tours were included and all were done by really top- notch tour guides. There was nothing we didn't like, we only wished it had lasted longer. A big plus for us was there were no "art" auctions, no "sales" on jewelry, etc. Also, there were no casinos. There were no teenagers running up and down the corridors at all hours of the night. Laundry facilities were new, free, and available on all decks. The staff knew who we were and addressed us by name by the second day of the cruise. Cabin steward was always available if we needed anything, I esp. liked the fact that after meeting us on the first day and I had requested ice. He kept our cabin supplied with ice. How refreshing to actually have people that take an interest in you. The entire staff was terrific. Read Less

The ship was well laid out and easy to get about. The running/walking deck provided me the opportunity to get some exercise and fresh air. Our cabin and beds were very comfortable. Lectures provided were informative and worth while. The entertainment was enjoyable. Ports of call were beautiful and the excursions provided were well organized and executed. It was the maiden voyage for the ship and everything went off without a hitch. The ship was beautiful, the cruise was smooth even in some seas that were a little choppy. We chose this cruise because of the destinations offered. It was the maiden voyage of the Viking Sky and our cabin and the service was wonderful. All of the staff that we encountered were friendly, attentive and good at what they did. We are amazed at the selection of staff that Viking must go through to obtain the people that they do. With one exception, the excursions were good. Overall the rating would have been higher except that the excursions left little time in many of the cities for just walking around and exploring. The guide for one excursion was the absolute worst guide we have ever encountered on our many cruises. We complained as many ways as we could and I have to admit I am disappointed in Viking in this regard. We were never offered a refund of the price we paid for the excursion, which I feel is the least that Viking could do. There were numerous restaurants at which to dine, but it took a while before we figured out where we wanted to eat. A better description of the restaurants on board would have helped to minimize our search. While the people that we met on the cruise were interesting and friendly, we found that we did not form friendships in the same manner that river cruising allows one to do. The cities that an ocean cruise must visit are traditionally larger cities. These cities have interesting histories and historical sites to explore and would be recommended if that is the reason to choose the cruise. River cruises tend to visit smaller cities and allow one to explore more of the current culture of the area. Read Less

We chose Viking because we hadn't been on an ocean cruise in a number of years and our experience with Viking River was outstanding. Stayed at the Marriott Flora in Rome before sailing which was centrally located to the sites. The hotel staff was accomodating and the Viking representative, on site daily, was extremely helpful. Embarkation went smoothly and arrival to our stateroom found our luggage waiting. Our stateroom was a nice size and included a sofa and chair with ample floor space. We found the bathroom to be a good size compared to others we've had in the past. We used the veranda a few times. The staff was extremely professional and when they saw us a second time, they already knew our names and greeted us very nicely. Dining was exceptional. We especially liked the Explorer's Lounge, Manfredi's, and the Chef's Table. Selected the Silver Spirits Package. This gave us the ability to order new liquors, beers and wines without a worry and also order our favorites. We feel this is a must! When not on shore, there always seemed to be something to do: the pool, tea in the Wintergarten, informational talks, sauna and snow grotto, sitting in the Explorer's Lounge or on our veranda. The shore excursions took us to places we would not have found on our own. We learned a great deal. Our only dislike was that Viking Sky when docked was far from the town, shopping and sites. Unless we were afforded time on our tours to explore, there was no opportunity or it was extremely difficult to do on our own. This was one of the pluses of Viking River-the ability to walk off the ship and just explore on your own. Entertainment was varied. Not always to our liking but something for everyone. This was a very enjoyable experience and we look forward to sailing with Viking again! Read Less

Viking has staff closely available to help with embarkation & disembarkation. They, Viking whether it be a river cruise or the Viking Sky, are the most organized group. For Seniors, disabled particularly, their organization surpasses any ship we have ever been on. We do not have to worry about transfers, air, etc because they are close by to assist. We do not have to worry about anything. The food is excellent and we had so much fun in our cooking class learning new recipes & eating what we prepared together as a small group. Previously we were on The Viking Star Baltic Cruise and were impressed with the Ship and Crew. We wanted to visit Mediterranean Ports and Vikings itinerary appeared to fill our goals. The Ship is very well designed and comfortable. The Crew was outstanding in demeanor and service. The entertainment was very good and the 'Spa" was a special treat. Our disappointment involved some of the tours. The 'included ' Panoramic tour of Naples ' demonstrated a dirty, graffiti filled City with homeless beggars outside all major gathering places. Viking should have checked this out first and included a tour OUTSIDE of Naples to Pompeii or Sorrento instead ,to avoid the mess in Naples. Trapani Sicily a clean City included an outside walking tour of Mt. Erice where the featured cable car was not 'in season' and the mountain is covered in fog at this time of year. Again this should have been known by Viking and an alternative offered. A stop was made in Tunnis in which the government is unsettled and not ready for tourism. We were in the presence of armed government military and our buses to attractions were accompanied with a police escort. Again Viking should have been aware of conditions in advance Sardinia was good and VALENCIA was OUTSTANDING both in attractions and the overall appearance of the Old and NEW City. Our tour guide was Great. This should have been a 2 day stop. All and all it was a worthwhile experience because of the Ship and Crew and hopefully this Cruise will even be better when Viking improves the Ports of call and tours. Read Less
