Previously we were on The Viking Star Baltic Cruise and were impressed with the Ship and Crew. We wanted to visit Mediterranean Ports and Vikings itinerary appeared to fill our goals. The Ship is very well designed and comfortable. The Crew was outstanding in demeanor and service. The entertainment was very good and the 'Spa" was a special treat. Our disappointment involved some of the tours. The 'included ' Panoramic tour of Naples ' demonstrated a dirty, graffiti filled City with homeless beggars outside all major gathering places. Viking should have checked this out first and included a tour OUTSIDE of Naples to Pompeii or Sorrento instead ,to avoid the mess in Naples. Trapani Sicily a clean City included an outside walking tour of Mt. Erice where the featured cable car was not 'in season' and the mountain is covered in fog at this time of year. Again this should have been known by Viking and an alternative offered. A stop was made in Tunnis in which the government is unsettled and not ready for tourism. We were in the presence of armed government military and our buses to attractions were accompanied with a police escort. Again Viking should have been aware of conditions in advance Sardinia was good and VALENCIA was OUTSTANDING both in attractions and the overall appearance of the Old and NEW City. Our tour guide was Great. This should have been a 2 day stop. All and all it was a worthwhile experience because of the Ship and Crew and hopefully this Cruise will even be better when Viking improves the Ports of call and tours. Read Less

We just wanted to get away from the cold weather, when I received an e-mail from Viking. We had been on five previous cruises with Viking and enjoyed all of them. We found out that this was the maiden voyage for the Viking Sky and wanted to be on a brand new ship. Everything was outstanding. We even met some of the staff from the Viking Star who had transferred to the new ship to get it under way. We had a great time! I can't say enough about Viking, they really know how to make you feel special. The included excursions were very interesting and fulfilling. The food was hard to top, especially at the Chef's Table where they pair the wine with each course. The public room on the ship are amazing, they truly are understated elegance, just what Viking is known for. I can't wait for my next Viking cruise. SteveG Read Less

We booked this cruise because of our previous excellent experience with Viking River Cruises. It didn't disappoint - it was glorious. The ship was brand new and we were the first paying passengers (they had completed some previous test cruises). Everything sparkled and worked well. The cruise started at Rome and had some excellent destinations including Naples and Pompeii, Sicily, Tunisia, Sardinia, Majorca, Valencia, and Barcelona. The transfer to the ship from the airport was smooth. A free tour was included in every port or you could pay a little extra for one more to your tastes. The opportunity to see Pompeii was a once in a lifetime bucket list experience. The tour was well run and the guide was excellent. The all day excursion in Tunisia was amazing with another great guide. The free included tours in Sicily, Sardinia, and Majorca were well run and great too. In Valencia we used the shuttle bus option to downtown since we had visited previously and it worked very well. The ship is well planned. Every room has a balcony. The room was great, comfortable, good service, and plenty of room. The standard restaurant was fantastic and the specialty restaurants even better. Great food, great service, and many food choices all excellent. Regional food was available tailored to each port, which is always fun. The infinity whirlpool at the back was very nice. Dining indoors or outdoors was nice. We were busy enough that we didn't have a chance to test all of the amenities but they sure looked nice. Read Less

We were very pleased with our first experience with Viking. We definitely plan on taking more trips with them. One of the most important aspects of our trip was that there were no attempt to sell you anything. There were no photographers following your around or pictures being taken as your entered and left the ship at the various ports. Even though there was 993 people on the ship, we took the elevator many times alone and never had to wait over a minute for an elevator to arrive. There was never long lines, except when returning to the ship, but it went pretty quickly. There is no casino nor children, which allows for quality time with your guest or just connecting with people from other parts of the country. Viking River cruises is more of a culture experience. I would recommend this trip to anyone who wants a rich culture experience with the atmosphere of relaxation and quality time with your loved ones. Read Less

The seven night, "Mediterranean Getaway" on the new "Viking Sky" was a wonderful trip on a wonderful sailing vessel. We took this cruise on the "Viking Sky's" maiden voyage from Rome to Barcelona. From our point of view, everything went off without a hitch. We had been on the other two Viking Cruise ships; The Viking Sea and The Viking Star, so we knew what to expect from the Viking Sky and it did not disappointment. We had a Penthouse Veranda Stateroom, which we love. It is roomy and comfortable and well appointed. The food and service on these ships are impeccable. Our cabin stewards were very attentive and addressed us by our names. My husband walks with a walker and everyone was always offering to help him. Food on the ship was remarkable. We never had a meal we did not like and were always given plenty of choices. We also enjoyed having room service and it always arrived on time. The Ports of call on this cruise were all locations we had not been to before and our shore excursions gave us an introductory taste to these locations. All in all we enjoyed this trip, we enjoyed this ship, and we enjoy this cruise line for both the river and ocean cruises. Read Less

It was a good opportunity to try out Viking. The staff was attentive , polite, friendly and efficient. Food was excellent and service great. We will be booking another Ocean cruise soon, but we may use our own guides. We had a difficult time making online reservations at the specialty restaurants. We found our online reservations cancelled 2 times and I had to call 3 times to have them reinstated. When we arrived at the ship they were cancelled again. The promised 2 reservations for our level room were not fulfilled ... we could not get a second reservation at Manfred's. The Chef Table menu was disappointing because of lack of choice, so we left after seeing the menu. Even though the champagne seemed to flow freely each time we returned to the ship, when we were charged for a glass it was $16 each. The excursions were NOT very informative except for the 2 stops in Spain. The other excursions were rushed with poor guides. Tunis was a bad choice, nothing to see there. The excursion was rushed with nothing to see and no time to shop the market (souk), police escorts were needed and we felt uncomfortable. The guide was not informative. At the stop at the US Military Cemetery there was no guidance given. AND there was no Carthage to be seen. Sicily was ill planned for this time of year as the scenic town ERICE was closed and the weather poor at that elevation. No public toilets, poor guidance. The" Underground Naples "excursion was too long, it should be only the underground . The above ground part was terrible. We were taken to the opera house and a few other places near the ship where the guide simply pointed to them. We did not enter any buildings. The Pizza lunch was poor quality and a waste of time. Our Sardinia guide was difficult to understand and not very informative. Read Less

We have always wanted to see more of that part of the world. We have traveled by car to Croatia, but, aside from Greece and Italy, we had never visited the other countries on this cruise. The cities are beautiful, historic and very walkable. the shore excursions were delightful and the guides were outstanding. We particularly enjoyed a visit to a farmers' market. The restaurant food was good but it was difficult to get reservations in the other specialty restaurants. We enjoyed the ship, it is luxurious in every way. We used the spa for massages but didn't ever use the pool or jaccuzzi. I think that I prefer Viking River cruises to the ocean cruise because we never saw the same people twice because the ship is so large. On the river cruises we were assigned to a group and saw, and even ate meals, with the same people every day. That is something we enjoy doing on a cruise. I would consider going again but I would prefer a smaller ship next time. Read Less

This cruise was a surprise anniversary gift to my husband and was chosen specifically because one of the ports was Sicily where his grandfather was from. He has also never been in any other parts of Italy so we purchased the pre-extension in Rome prior to boarding the Sky. Having Viking meet us at the airport, get us easily to our hotel, then have a rep there each day to help answer questions or make arrangements for us was wonderful. It made it so easy to do everything we wanted to do. Every aspect of embarkation and disembarkation were perfect. We have traveled on other cruises and this was so incredibly easy in comparison to the ones we had been on previously. There was zero stress, no long lines, everything was easy. We expected the cabin to be small but the way it was arranged there was plenty of room and even the bathroom and shower were great. We loved the staff who took care of our stateroom. They always remembered our names and seemed genuinely happy to see us during the cruise. It didn't matter which restaurant we went to the food was always fantastic. We had the opportunity to eat in both of the specialty restaurants as well as the buffet and main dining room and enjoyed them all. Although many people had issues with the communication devices used during the port tours I think it was due to them being new and the tour guides weren't used to them. The tours were wonderful with well informed tour guides who could answer any question anybody had about the area we were in. One of our favorite areas of the ship was the spa. We each had multiple massages, hair cuts, manicures, attended the yoga classes, and I was able to participate in the nordic bathing ritual which was truly overwhelming. My great grandfather was Swedish and it really made me feel a connection to my heritage. I look forward to going back and being able to participate in that again with my sons and their wives next year when we return. Mihaijlo, Jesper, Gabby, Emma Jade, and Phoebe all took such wonderful care of us we were truly sad to say goodbye at the end of the trip. We also loved the products used there and purchased many to bring home. The various lounges throughout the ship were great and we loved how the entertainment moved from area to area. It was so relaxing sitting with a drink listening to the music and just enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The decor of the ship was fabulous. We can't say enough about how comfortable every area of the ship was. Even with so many people on the ship you never felt crowded or had to wait for anything. The service was outstanding no matter where you went even in areas like the gift shop. My husband needed to purchase a hat but all that was left were red ones and he really prefers to wear blue. Camilla who was working in the gift shop went out of her way to go find an additional blue hat so he didn't have to purchase a red one. We also took advantage of booking our next Viking cruise while we were on the ship and will be returning in 2018 and go from Barcelona back to Rome with our sons and their wives, which will be great. We are also telling all of our friends and family they need to book a Viking cruise as well because it truly was the most enjoyable and relaxing vacation we have ever been on. To this day two weeks after we disembarked my husband has dreams every night about being back on the ship enjoying the wonderful atmosphere you all created for us. We truly appreciate making the celebration of our anniversary such a memorable and truly special event neither of us will ever forget. Read Less

My wife and I had never been on a cruise for several reasons, but the primary reason was the large number of passengers on the typical ship. We decided to try Viking for our first cruise because of their smaller ships and they were all new. as of 2015. Our cruise on Viking Sky was its first voyage with paying passengers. We cannot say enough good things about the experience with this company so I will not try in the space provided here. All aspects of the cruise from on board activities, food and beverage, to shore excursions and disembarkation and embarkation were excellent. We found the dining choices to be excellent both for variety and quality If you want a special experience, look at the destinations, select one and go. You will be rewarded with a memorable experience. As mentioned above, the ship was brand new,and quite beautiful. Our cabin was well designed and comfortable, with a veranda. We found the dining choices to be quite good except for the Chef's Table which we did not enjoy. Overall service was exceptional in all areas. Shore excursions were well organized from start to finish. We arranged our own air transportation and it was not quite clear as what to expect on arrival. We arrived in Rome at the same time other passengers, and just blended in with them to get to the buses. although Viking had our flight arrival information, we did not see anyone there with a sign looking specifically for us. I am a very experienced international air traveler, and I believe this could have been a problem if we had arrived at a different time. We are in the planning stages for our 2018 cruise at this time and look forward to the next adventure. Read Less

I chose this cruise because I wanted to try a Viking Ocean Cruise. I had previously been on a Viking River Cruise, which I loved and wanted to experience their ocean cruise. The Viking Sky is Viking"s newest ship and this cruise was the first voyage of this new ship. From embarkation to disembarkation it was a very delightful experience. I was met at the airport very courteously and driven to the ship very professionally. I was introduced to my cabin by my two cabin stewards. They showed me all the features of the cabin and all its amenities. I started the cruise dining in the main dinning room which offered a very luxurious buffet. I was so enamored by the quality and diverse selection of food that I continued dining there for the entire cruise! The staff were exceptional and anticipated my every need. I also participated in the afternoon high tea that was set up every day by the pool. The food and service was exquisite. The daily port excursions were carried out very professionally and were very organized. The local guides were very knowledgeable. Everything ran like clock work. From the cabin staff to the staff in the dining rooms, all the service was carried out very competently and professionally but with a very comfortable friendly manner. I felt very comfortable and pampered. The service though out this cruise was first rate and on par with high end cruise companies. I have already told all my friends about this great cruise experience and definitely recommended it to them. It was a great value for the money. I will definitely be back on board in the future. We were looking for a Viking cruise to celebrate my upcoming 60th birthday. This cruise hit several places where my daughter had worked as an archaeologist and so we picked it. From the minute we contacted Viking customer service, we were treated as pampered guests. Art Rivera was our cruise consultant and he made us feel like royalty. The ship itself was divine and I never felt so pampered in all my life. It seemed like before we even knew we needed or wanted something, it would appear. All the staff was helpful, cheerful, and accommodating. The entertainment was stellar & varied. There was no lack of things to do. If you wanted activity, you could have it. If you wanted peace, quiet, & solitude, you could have that too. My only suggestion would be to add another excursion option to each port. Having a recorded guide & map for more independent exploration of the port would be a nice change from buses. While the bus trips were well organized, entertaining, and enlightening, sometimes it's nice to spend more time on the ground in a port. From beginning to end, this was an amazing trip. Read Less

I took a Danube River cruise in 2015 for my first Viking cruise and thought it was the most amazing cruise I ever took. But then I went on a Viking Ocean cruise and was amazed again. The size of the ship is great. I so enjoyed a great deal I got on a junior suite and airfare and enjoyed this cruise more than I thought possible. Was amazed at the great food on board. The specialty restaurants are wonderful. The afternoon tea around the pool was so amazing (and I don't really like tea). So much entertainment on board and great tours just keep adding to the "Viking sailing experience." The staff on the ship go above and beyond the needs of each customer. Room are kept in great shape and so clean. Love the heated floors in the bathrooms, especially in cooler weather. All areas of the ship are pristine. Ever worker on board is friendly and helpful. Only thing I would have liked to know was how much of Barcelona I would see on the included tour and how much more there was to see with another purchased tour. Being this was my first ocean cruise with the company and first trip to Barcelona, I had no idea how big the city was and how much to see. With the new Facebook groups out there, I now have a good place to get this kind of information. And there are so many people in these groups that have the same opinion that I have - Viking is the best company to sail with! I have just recently had to decide between a Rhine river cruise or an ocean cruise. My friend and I weighed all the options and decided on a trip from Athens to Venice in 2019. Our decision to do another ocean cruise was (1) amazing destination; (2) fabulous food and great room service; (3) great excursions; and (4) beautiful new ship we'll be sailing on (the Jupiter). Can't wait for next year to get here! Read Less

Efficiently administered and executed by first rate crew and staff who genuinely do all possible to ensure ones cruise does not disappoint. The cabins (sorry; state rooms) are well arranged and kept spotless by the tireless and equally charming housekeepers. The vessel is beautifully designed and even when full, allows one to find tranquility. Blissfully child free which is the main reason we initially considered Viking. The food is generally very good and we had very few disappointments in any of the various dining options. Bar staff were obliging and on the whole adequate in number to serve fairly promptly. Negatives are modest in the context of the cruise; - no in cabin music options, unusually no standard/Greek style breakfast yogurt (the chef allegedly says they taste the same as the stocked fat free alternatives!) and for our taste, sadly the vast majority of cocktails are unpalatably sweet and gloopy due to the almost universal use of fruit syrups which removes the freshness and sophistication that a cocktail should offer. Great gym and spa. The pool area is lovely BUT has the characteristics and temperature of a hot house when the retractable roof is closed and with no shade provided on deck can restrict one to the interior amenities which can be a shame. Otherwise a thoroughly lovely cruise in the company of courteous guests and staff that allowed optimum time ashore on the principle islands of the Caribbean. Pitty the intrusive neighboring vessels at certain ports made little attempt at similar standards! Read Less
