All activities on the ship required reservations that you needed to make prior to the cruise which we never were made aware of. The employees were miserable and had the worst customer service skills. The kids splash academy was full and couldnt take anymore kids as it was a first come first serve basis. Everything costed extra, only food was included. Shows, go carts , arcade and many more things were all extra but they were all full. This ship was beautiful but the experience and sercice was horrible. I will never go on another Norwegian cruise. The pool had little to no entertainment and it was packed with only one pool for families to use. I would highly recommend a Royal Caribbean cruise over this one anyday. To top the cruise off my 10 year had access to charge to his room 1500. On the arcade and the cruise line never flagged the account or notified us .When i found out about charges there corporate office in Miami argued with me stating it was my responsibility to pay the amount. Please safe yourself the headache and disappointment do not go on this ship!!! Read Less

My wife and my two children (ages 8 and 4) came on this cruise as an extension of a California Disney vacation. We were looking forward to a relaxing spring break family vacation, and certainly expected a similar experience to our prior 6 cruise experiences with other companies. You will be extremely disappointed. This is not a family cruise. Staff is largely ignorant of any cruise activity or procedure, the children activity center is opened odd limited hours, which in turn limits your own ability to book any adult time. The ship is crowded and ill-designed — be ready to wait long lines at any eatery or elevator — the food of poor quality unless you are paying for it. Cabin is smaller than Disney but ok. Very disappointed with our experience and especially for the kids. I will not travel in this boat again. I wish I had read more of the other reviews before I booked it. Read Less

I chose this cruise because it was a new and large ship. The ship was very nice but that was all I can say positive about this cruise. The food at Savor, Taste, Manhatten and Buffet was awful! The menu at the three main dining rooms was the same every night except for their specials. The food was like cafeteria food, cold, tasteless and very little variety. No steak night. No lobster night. Very disappointed in the food because I had heard they were supposed to be one of the best. Not true! The entertainment was very limited. Nothing going on in the day time. Very poor demonstrations and game shows, very boring! The Jersey Boys was the highlight of the cruise but that was only one night. Theater should have had something going on both day and night every day. Sick of high priced push of jewelry and art. The excursions were not planned well at all. We arrived at Buchart Gardens at 9:40 at night for one hour. You couldn't see anything, too dark. Pathways not lit, too dark to read map, pictures did not turn out well at all, no time to visit all areas or gift shops. Big disappointment! Many went to guest services afterward for refunds. In visiting with other guests while aboard, we heard the same complaints that we were experiencing. Makes me want to never cruise again. Glad this was not my first, I know there are better choices available. Never again Norwegian! Read Less

This is a little bit long, but I write with the hope that you will find it more entertaining than I did the cruise. Let me begin by saying that I've been on 20+ cruises over the last 30 years. When we started cruising, our friends compared every cruise to their experience on NCL; nothing measured up. This was my first cruise with NCL and I was prepared to be wowed. Apparently, a lot has changed in 30 years. Not everything was bad, in fact, our first contact with the ship was fantastic. The ship was docked right in downtown Seattle. I didn't think we had the right ship though, because where it should have said "Bliss" it said "Wayland", right there on the bow. I later learned that he's the artist who designed the images that cover the hull. OK, but doesn't an artist sign a canvas at the bottom of his work? The actual check-in process was the quickest and smoothest I've ever experienced. Things were looking up. Then we got to the baggage check area. There was a young man standing there whose sole job it seemed was to shout "no liquids" every 20 seconds. We had a couple of unopened cans of soda that we brought from the hotel which we quickly tossed in the conveniently provided barrel. The web site says that this is to speed up the baggage inspection, but the fact that you can bring aboard wine (for which you are required to pay a "corkage fee") tells me that it's all about the money. The funny part about this was that later that day I spied two 12 packs of soda that were tied together with a duct tape handle and a room tag that was dutifully delivered to the outside of a cabin by the crew. Apparently, they were dropped off with the rest of their baggage and brought right onto the ship. Note to NCL. Keep a closer eye on the checked baggage. Somebody just cost you $100 in lost revenue. But then we boarded the ship. After the obligatory spray of hand sanitizer, we enter the actual interior of the ship. Not ten steps inside, the first crew member I saw was holding a picture of a slice of prime rib. At first, I thought she was hyping one of the specialty restaurants, but no, she was informing us of the main menu item at the buffet that evening. That seemed a bit odd to me, but the purpose was to become clear as the week dragged on. We found our cabin and it was exactly what I expected. Very nice and compact and entirely suitable for a week's stay. I called my son and we went to his cabin to touch base with him and his family. By this time I was getting a little bit hungry so I checked the schedule to see where I could grab a quick bite. But it turns out that food is only available until 3 o'clock on embarkation day and so I had to wait until dinner time. I've can't remember ever being on a cruise where food wasn't available all day on embarkation day. People have been traveling! They're hungry! That night we went to the buffet to sample the prime rib. It was very good, and the buffet area is the largest and most diverse I've ever seen on a ship. You could almost walk off the calories just wandering around the buffet. The next day was a sea day and I decided to spend a little quiet time reading a book I'd brought along. I found the library, or should I say the library/game room. It was shockingly small for such a large ship, and two of the tables were occupied by gamers so there was no way I was going to be able to read in there. I made my way to the observation lounge and finally found a chair there. In the early afternoon, I started looking into the entertainment options that were accessed through the cabin TV set. The first thing I realized was that we needed reservations to see the much-hyped Jersey Boys show. OK, let's scroll through and see what's available. The entire week was already taken; no reservations were available! Keep in mind that this was less than 24 hours after we sailed. I have never, and I mean never, been on a cruise where 1. reservations were required to see the shows in the theatre, and 2. it was impossible to see such shows. Remind me again what I was paying for? So this was our onboard entertainment for the week: 1. The Beatles group in the theatre the first night. I was surprised at the small crowd, I had expected it to be packed. But we enjoyed it very much. 2. The same group in the Cavern Club. As close as you're ever going to get to actually being there. But the club is very small, I would guess less than 100 people. So this was something that most guests were not going to be able to experience. Arrive early. Very early. 3. Deal or No Deal in the Atrium with the cruise director. 4. A movie in the Atrium. It was a Disney nature film. Enjoyable but disrupted by the sound of the mini bowling alley coming from the open floor above. 5. The show Havana in the theatre. Great sets, music, and dancing. But the rest of the production left us flat. 6. Two lounge singers in the atrium. They were fine, just what you would expect to see on a cruise ship. And that was it. Very disappointing. Now the food. That young lady with the food advertisement that I saw when I boarded the ship was not a onetime thing. Every day there were people hyping the featured item at the buffet that evening. The reason is clear. "Freestyle Cruising" is based on steering guests away from the dining rooms where most of the evening meals are served on other cruise lines, and toward the buffet and the $pecialty re$taurant$. Now I've eaten many meals in buffets onboard ships, but mostly breakfast and lunch. This is the first ship where I've actually been encouraged to eat dinner in the buffet. The restaurants are way too small to handle the guests unless most of them don't eat there. We did manage to eat in the restaurants on three occasions. Two of those were acceptable. On the third, I ordered the always available New York Strip. The first one I received was well done. It was replaced with a steak that was actually difficult to cut because it was so full of gristle. They offered to replace that too but I had managed to get enough off of it and I was done. I could go on about the overpriced soft drinks, the room steward who failed to empty my mini fridge after I asked him to, and the botching of my post-cruise travel plans, but you get the idea. The cruise ship should be one of the destinations on a cruise. This one felt more like a ferry boat ride to Alaska. Read Less

First of all this complaint is not about the ship itself, ship, food , cabin, excellent. This complaint t is about Notweigen Cruise lines itself and how they did nothing to address the fact that someone in the Maderna Spa opened my locker and stole all my money out of my wallet while I was in the spa. To make a long story short, Norweigen client services has not responded to my complaint, NOT one word reeceied from them yet. We go on these cruises thinking that the cruise company is concerned about our safety and the safety of our belongings, but .they are not! They are only interested in covering themselves. What actually happened was I put my personal bag into a locker in the doa and locked it by creating a 4 pin code. I checked to make sure the code was working properly and opened and locked a second time. After returning from the spa, my locker was opened, my bag still inside, but my wallet had no cash in it. On a prior visit to the spa my locker code did not work and a managerial staff member opened it for me by using a numerical code. The spa has a code to open lockers. and confirmed to Norweigen security that such a code exists. The was no other way someone could have opened my locker as I made sure it was locked. Nirweigensecurity having this info did nothing. No offer to reimburse my money, nothing. After the cruise client services has not to date (June to September 2019) even responded to my submitted response, not a word! I have only cruised with Norweigan, six cruises, and I will never cruise with them again. We are not safe, and our belongings are not safe. Norweigen only protects themselves. Never again! Note that Madera Spas never responded to my complaints either and I have names of everyone involved. Norweigan did not want to give me the names, but I made a stink until they did. Criuse with them at your own risk! THE SHIP: In spite of what happened in the spa locker rooms, I found the ship itself to be beautiful, classy and large enough to hold the thousand of cruisers. We are in the specialty dining restaurants and the food was especially best in Le Bistro, Cagney's, Ocean Blue and Q. I did not care for the food in Los Lobos as it was not good to me. Margarita was very good for Mexican tex Mexican type food eith giant portions. Coco's for crepes was good too. I did not eat in the main dining rooms. I ate at the buffet almost daily for breakfast and did not have trouble finding seating. THE SHOWS: I loved all the shows I saw. Jersey Boys, Havana and the Beetles. The musicians and singers were excellent. I loved the band that played in Q. Very talented guys. I did not try any of the outside activities spending most time in the observation lounge where seating was always available. I liked the ship, the Bliss but, due to Norweigans lack of security and terrible attention to problems. I will never sail with them again. Read Less

We decided on the Norwegian Bliss because it is a New ship and seemed to have everything. We cruised with them 15 years ago and had a good experience. This cruise was not a good experience and they have lost my future business. Couple of issues: * 4700 guests and no more common space than any other ship we have sailed on. * The restaurant service was very poor. They rushed to get us out when they were there. * The food was below standard compared to the 15 cruises I have done. Buffet was ok * Needed reservations for EVERYTHING including dinner. We had seven and the best they could ever do was 9:00PM. So much for Anytime dining..Apparently if you don't get your reservations 90 days in advance of cruise you get what you get. Early shows were booked. Comedy shows sold out but was able to get in with the overflow group. Plan on waiting. * The premium drink package we purchased did NOT include water or coffee. * The world famous water slide / tube was closed for the entire cruise for repairs. * They offered a painting class that had 12 spots for 1 day only. Good Luck with 4700 guests and only 12 spots for a class. Why was it even in the daily program. * The drinks were not consistent. Find a bar you like and stay with it. Our biggest issue was the late dining time, poor food quality and service. Just FYI, the strawberry shortcake was made with pound cake. * Getting on the ship was simple but getting off at port was ridiculous. Again, 4700 guests is big if you dont have the staff to handle them. * One Starbucks coffee ship for 4700 guests. Yes, they charge. . Cabin was nice and steward was great. After providing examples of our issues, the manager of food services moved out last two dinners to 5:30. Expensive boat ride. Lost more cabins and the same amount of ship. When I take a week off work for cruise I expect a little more. Read Less

We loved the Breakaway last year, discovered Haven and didn’t even look at other cruise lines, booked the Bliss for our Alaska trip which we’ve been planning for a while now. Haven was great for embarking, disembarking and to skip the crowds which can be overwhelming. However, it’s exaggerated to the point of misrepresentation. You do get priority with dining but everything else is just regular. You have a concierge that calls around for you but if something you want is booked, it’s booked. Our trip also started on the wrong foot, a customer representative canceled our whole reservation by mistake 4 days prior to sailing - she was supposed to be canceling the airport transfer- 3 hours on the phone after being interrogated and put on hold to listen to the recordings and I got it back but allen reservations I’ve made were gone. And when I tried to rebook, everything was gone. Another few hours on the phone with no luck, no sympathy from anyone, not even an apology and we hoarded without any reservations. Haven concierge just kept saying everything is booked. Freestyle cruising is a joke, if you don’t plan months ahead, you won’t get to do the things you want. Race car and laser tag we’re both completely booked, we could do race car doubles only and once in the whole week. That was disappointing since we were counting on those two even though they charge extra. Our butler was nice but he didn’t have language or people skills to make anything happen. Luggage - tagged priority- came at 7pm, butler said sorry it will come from downstairs?! Everyday I asked for housekeeping at 9am, we get up early with the kids, no one stopped by before 1pm. I was washing coffee cups in the sink because housekeeping wasn’t responsible for those, it was someone else, butler we found out the last day. Small things but they add up. Jersey Boys was great, Broadway quality. However, there was nothing to do with the kids during the day. The simple silly things were really boring because the staff is not enthusiastic and language is really a problem. How can you entertain people if you’re struggling to speak English the whole time? And 80% of the activities revolve around selling you stuff and promotions. So we actually walked around not being able to find anything to do which was not the case at Breakaway. Haven lounge was a great escape and the observation deck there is outstanding, we spent most of our time there. Also the pool and jacuzzi was nice for the kids since it was indoors. Fitness center is a shame, it was full every single time I went and it’s so small. Just the lounge area of the spa is bigger than the fitness center. The weight equipment is lined up on the side so narrow, looks like an after thought. And no classes other than a 7am stretch class. This is a deal breaker for me. Dining is pretty good at NCL, however Haven restaurant was over staffed with under trained employees that walked around all the time but you still don’t get your coffee and only option is French press. For us, Haven was not worth the money and downstairs was too hectic so we’ve decided to look at smaller cruise lines and it’s ok if they don’t have a race track on top. Read Less

I have cruised with Norwegian 9 times now and have never had a bad experience until now. The food was cold, the wait staff forgot some of the order and when we spoke to the supervisor we were not welcomed back. When we went to the Italian restaurant we were told we could not gift our coupons to my parents which wasn't a problem at cagney's but we could gift what was left of our dining package at guest services, but when I went to guest services to do so I was called a liar and told he wasn't going to waste his time to call and check. Half of our party had their show times changed and the other half did not so we were separated. I will never go on this ship again and may never go with Norwegian again. On a good note the ports of call were absolutely amazing and our room steward was the best one yet. Read Less

Cabin was good. Food as expected. Room was kept clean with freshtowels. Beds were better than some worse than others. Nice closet space. Worst main dining room service in 8 cruises. Service was painfully slow. 30-45 mins to get a drink and starter/salad that was straight off the menu. Go-karts were a ripoff. Stopped my group after 5 laps. Allowed someone to repeatedly block pass attempts - even after telling him to pull to the side. Unfortunately if you bump someone they slow you down and send you to the pits. Go-karts are also not set to run at advertised speeds. Think crappy old amusement park speeds. If you have done the cars at Disney they are faster. Laser tag was good except the only thing you have is the gun - they removed the shoulder harness but at least you get the paid for time. Going back to Royal/Princess/Disney and maybe even Carnival. For the good on the cruise I highly recommend The Local. Food was goid and friendly service. I would suggest requesting a seat at the atrium wall to watch music/shows. We used AlaskaX for an excursion in Skagway to see the his kids/go for a sled ride. Happy with them - everthing went smoothly. The O1 family ocean view worked well for a family of 4. Kids had bunk beds to sleep on. My kids did not like the kids club, but have enjoyed the Disney and RCL kids clubs. They want to switch back to RCL or Disney for our next cruise. We went to several shows. Beatles were entertaining but definitely need some help on harmonization. Read Less

Spent 20K on a family vacation with our adult children & grandchildren. Once in a lifetime affair, we can't afford again. Has been totally ruined. I will never cruise NCL again and my husband who is a travel agent will be sure to warn many others. 1) Matridi refused to accommodate table for 8 in Garden Cafe. Could clearly put two available tables together. 2) Waited long time in guest services line about CPAP & Dining package. Said would call stateroom about CPAP NEVER called. 3) Dining package was chosen along with beverage package but was not applied to only 1 room of our family party/vacation. Was embarrassing & charged at Cagney's astronomical amount of over $200 which was not reimbursed and only solution to the miscommunication was to purchase an additional dining package for 2. 4) our cards were frozen because apparently had old card on file, had to wait in guest service line again, had to wait in guest service line several times for long periods. It felt like half our cruise was waiting in lines. new card was authorized and signed, when went to use again it was still frozen. Jewelry clerk overheard my frustration & called to correct it without having to wait in long guest service line again. Not good practices to hold card numbers on file. These things change often. 5) Ship was so crowded, could not get elevator for sometimes 10-20 mins. 1st & 2nd day, before & after entertainment events and disembarking at ports. As a person with special needs and a scooter that requires use of non crowded elevator it was very frustrating & impossible to get elevator. Disembarking in Juneau thankfully an attendant saw the impossibility to obtain a elevator & my frustration and guided me to service elevators so I could get off ship to make our excursion on time. Ship was so crowded was hard to enjoy anything and never, not ONE hot tub available. Very young children were allowed to occupy them the entire time around pool even though not medically safe for young children and the hot tubs in H20 were occupied by the same groups of people ALL DAY which I can't tolerate more than 20-30 mins in hot tub idk how these people could tolerate all day. 6) Reservations for specialty restaurants made through the app were screwed up & two scheduled for same day. Was supposed to be Wednesday & Friday, had both booked Friday. Had to then wait in line to correct at dining services. ALOT of time was wasted in lines to discuss or fix problems! 7) Rude waitress in Cagney's steakhouse 8) Waited 15-20 minutes before being offered juice at breakfast by someone other than our waiter, our waiter took 3 of 4 of our orders then walked away not taking husband's order, then waited long time for food. Over an hour for food in both Taste & Savor. Worst service ever! 9) again waited over an hour for our breakfast food at Savor, then food came out missing all the meats and other items ordered. Waited over an hour at dinner also and dining room was practically empty so not sure why the hold up. 10) room service took 15-20 minutes to answer phone for me. Never answered at all for son's room. The local is the only place to get food 24/7 besides room service that doesn't answer and you cannot take food out! Is dine in only which was not an option with sleeping children 2 five yr olds and a 2 yr old. 11) photographer took our family pictures while out to dinner at Cagney's restaurant which is fine but then returned with developed photos, literally hovering over our shoulder while we tried to view them and the charge of $25 each photo is ridiculous. The whole thing was awkward & disruptive of our dinner. Taking the pics was fine after that should have been told they will be available shortly in photo gallery for view & purchase on deck 6. 12) my husband & son were charged $300 on card the day of checkin. Without warning or notification or informed of CASH option so that if don't spend it can have immediately returned. Not released & credited 30-60 days later. 13) informed my adult son & daughter to not bring many cigarettes as can purchase on ship cheaper and you never restocked or got shipment of their POPULAR brands so had to purchase at port in Alaska for DOUBLE the price at home if would have purchased before trip. ALSO: When stayed in Haven last year 8/18. We were disappointed but never complained about them painting on our balcony most the time, being restricted from our balcony due to wet paint, then the ONE morning we decide to eat breakfast out on our balcony, water came splashing down, some of it splashing us as they were apparently washing something above. Spent ALOT of money! Maintenance & repairs should be done when guests are not in room. We didn't complain because we love NCL & enjoyed the privacy and VIP of the Haven but this family vacation has been one disaster after the other. I'm actually embarrassed after I talked NCL up to my children & in laws only for them to come and have an experience such as this. Also realized NCL is not a true all inclusive. When add cruise fare, air fare, hotel stays, transfers, excursions, wifi, paying for almost EVERY on board activity & service ie arcade, cake shop, starbucks, race track it is astronomical! I recent found out Regent is the only TRUE all inclusive vacation cruise but I'm reluctant to use them either because owned by NCL and refuse to spend anymore of our hard earned money on NCL after this ruined, astronomical cost of a disastrous family cruise! Having previously sailed on the Bliss in the Caribbean, we looked forward to the Pacific Coastal cruise so much we even convinced a friend of ours to book a cabin on the cruise. Boy were we disappointed. Standing in line winding outdoors and indoors for over 2 1/2 hours to get our room cards and board the ship. There was no place to sit or rest until we were more than 2 hours into the process. No one from NCL seemed to care. When we finally got onboard (after 10 pm) the only place to get some food was the buffet....where nearly 4,000 of our fellow passengers were trying to do the same thing. Then we were told the first port of call, Seattle, was cancelled because there was not enough time to process the passengers through immigration so we would spend an overnight in Victoria BC. Why NCL created an itinerary that requires two separate US immigration stops is beyond me. (Vancouver to Seattle to Victoria BC to San Francisco before ending in Los Angeles). We wondered about that part of the itinerary when we booked the cruise but apparently NCL did not. Victoria BC has no amenities near the cruise terminal and no entertainment area either. To make matters worse, only 3 bars were allowed to be open due to local restrictions so drink service at our specialty restaurant was negatively impacted as the closet bar was 7 floors away. Our tour guide told us it was the first time he could recall a ship staying overnight in the 20 years he had been in the town. On the 3rd day of the 6 day cruise we finally sailed so the shops/bars/casinos could be open. Things were looking up...or so we thought. Unfortunately the next cruise port (San Francisco) was another frustrating experience as we technically arrived at 8 am but we were not able to get off the ship until after noon (with another 45 minutes of standing in line after our floor was called to disembark. So much for a full day in San Francisco. The Bliss is a beautiful ship but it is NOT capable of handling the number of passengers it carries when those passengers are indoors. The employees did not seem to give much effort to making our trip enjoyable. Maybe the attitude of frustrated passengers caused them to become defensive. We have already talked three other couples who inquired about our trip to stay away from NCL Bliss for this itinerary. When I wrote to NCL customer service to express my frustrations with their efforts, they brushed me off and did not offer what I really wanted most...acknowledgement that they did not provide the level of service their customers deserved. It may very well be my last NCL cruise. Read Less

This was our second cruise and first on Norwegian. It was a cruise from hell! We booked a boarding time of 10:30 a.m., so booked a flight from Calgary to Vancouver arriving at 9:00 a.m. Got to the port and advised that boarding had been changed to 7:00 p.m. We had the whole day to kill so were given a recommendation to take the seabus to North Vancouver. We did that, and thankfully the weather was nice. Walked around and basically watched our ship floating in the middle of the water - all day. The onboarding process was horrendous and no one was happy. We were supposed to board at 7:00 pm - waited in line since 6:30 pm. We were herded like cattle into a gymnasium type area and sat there with no water or communication. Long process!! Finally got on the ship around 9:30 p.m. Had to go to the muster stations at 11:00 p.m. - had no food at that point and the crew were not pleasant. Didn't get our luggage until midnight. The next morning I noticed a $30.00 service charge to our room. We didn't cruise the first day and they still had the gall to charge us. I complained to customer service and their only answer was that they couldn't do anything about it. The food in the buffet was terrible. Very bland and no variety. Part of our package included 3 specialty dining restaurants. What they don't tell you is that only includes limited items on the menu. You can't order the 35.00 steak. The Local was about the only place that had great food. We loved their chicken wings and decided to order them one night to take to our room. I asked for a plate and when asked why I said we wanted to take it to our room. We were told that wasn't allowed due to "sanitary" reason, but we could order room service (and pay for it) and that would be okay. Really?? Not sanitary for us to take it - but hell - you can load up at the buffet and take it to your room - that's okay. They nickel and dime you to death. This was was advertised as a 6 day cruise, but with leaving Vancouver at 2:30 a.m., and sitting in Victoria for two days (Seattle was cancelled) - this should be touted as a 5 day cruise and we should be refunded for a day. We didn't find the staff exceptionally pleasant - most of them were flying back home after the cruise, and I think they just wanted to get off as well. We will NEVER, EVER take Norwegian again - even if it was free. You would still get nickel and dimed to death on everything else. Read Less

We are Platinum Plus (30+ cruises) and consider ourselves "loyalists." Unfortunately, our experience on the Bliss in September pushed us to look elsewhere. We'd also had a not so great experience on the Bliss in April but explained it away by the newness of the ship, etc. This time, we couldn't explain away the below average experience. It really makes us sad b/c we've loved NCL for so many reasons. Unfortunately, the changes in NCL (growing too big too fast) are impacting customer service, the cruise experience, and food quality. No longer is there a "family" feel...we felt like just another number (I know we are no matter what but there was not even a pretense to care). On top of that, we brought along our 2 cousins and our travel agent (who'd never sailed NCL) and she brought along 7 others. We had been ranting and raving about NCL to her so she wanted to try it to share her good experiences with her customers. First, we were not allowed to board until 10p. It was chaos (as other reviews have indicated). We ate in the MDR - the most mediocre food (at best) ever. Then the muster drill at 11p. Really? Most everyone was asleep listening to the drill...elderly folk were exhausted, parents were drained, kids were irritable, and everyone else (including myself) were dumbfounded at the sheer stupidity of keeping us at the drill so long (longer than usual). When we get to our room, there is a letter indicating we will not be stopping at Seattle as planned but would stay in Victoria for 2 days. There was no explanation and no one knew anything. Later we'd find out that supposedly Seattle port did not have enough Customs agents to allow us to pass through. We found this incredibly hard to believe. There was never an apology or explanation from the Captain or Hotel Director. In fact, the Senior Officers were nowhere to be found. Gone are the days where Senior Officers socialized a bit during the morning/afternoon in the Atrium. Guest Services was a joke. I loved sailing NCL b/c it felt like EVERYONE knew their jobs so well and I could depend/trust the information I was provided. This was not true of Guest Services - all of whom barely looked up from their computers when speaking to us. Shore Excursions Desk gave us wrong information indicating we should follow immigration process when we stopped in San Francisco ("listen for announcement"). Thank goodness I didn't trust this (mis)information and asked around and found that if you had an excursion, you could get off the ship at the excursion time. Food - the worst MDR experiences we've ever had. The food was tepid with poor presentation (it really seemed that the chefs just threw food on the plates). Orders were continually wrong, waiters didn't know answers to simple questions regarding the food, and service was horrendous. Several times waiters brought us our soup and appetizer at the same time. So we had all of our plates prior to the main meal at one time. I actually muttered "well this is new" and the waiter asked if I'd rather they hold it for me until I was ready. I declined since I knew all that meant was for it to go sit in a cold room and who knew how long it'd be for him to come around again to bring it to me. One of the Officers told me that about 30% of the staff were entirely new employees. It showed. On this trip (and the one in April on the Bliss) there were no smiling faces, "good mornings," or anyone who seemed to care that we were paying guests on a cruise ship. Everything was done with what seemed like a great deal of effort, from the hostess swiping our key cards when we checked in for dinner to handing us menus (vs tossing them to us). No more pulling out chairs for us and forget about a napkin on your lap. Platinum members? Didn't matter...there was nothing special for us. In fact, the Lattitudes party was in the Observation lounge and EVERYONE stopped by to get a drink at the bar, regardless of status. Cruise Critic Meet and Greet was pathetic - some of the Senior Officers were there and they were hurriedly introduced and they quickly ran off to somewhere else after their names were called. I often felt like saying "sorry to bother you." Not what you want when you've spent a nice chunk of change on a cruise. I wasn't sad when it was time to leave and it was hard for me to give a standing ovation at the farewell party. When I got home, I felt like I'd never even been on a vacation. I also started getting on Cruise Critic and looking at reviews of HAL, obtained other members' opinions, and called HAL for information. Did you know that a person at HAL actually answers the phone without waiting on hold for 30+ minutes?! So not only did NCL give my travel agent nothing to encourage her customers to try, her companions saying they'll go back to their usual smaller/more expensive cruises, and my cousins got driven back to Disney, but they also helped me decide to spread my wings and try HAL. Maybe I'll get back some of that feeling of being valued. While I feel a bit disloyal, I really felt the need to speak with my money and go elsewhere at least for now. Read Less

This was such a disappointment Took over 4 hours to board the ship and it was disorganized. By the time we boarded ship it was after 10 pm. Missed out on dinner as there was a mandatory safely meeting at 11pm Completely missed out on porting in Seattle. So because we missed out in Seattle spent an extra day in Victoria Was looking forward to San Francisco and we couldn’t get off the ship until after noon even though ship was ported in the early morning. Not what our itinerary had told us Public washrooms we’re discussing. Toilets seemed to not be flushing properly and guesses continued to use them..... Food was undercooked a few times and service was terrible. We had two dining speciality packages and one of those evenings our waiter forgot to submit our food order and it took nearly an hour and 40 minutes to receive our food Terrible experience all around! We are a platinum latitude member but normally took a NCL cruise on a small ship. My wife and I wanted to try a larger ship. The embarkation was a disaster. It took us more than 4 hours to check in and embark. Personnel at the pier in Vancouver were so disorganized and they waited until 7pm to start the process. They could have started earlier and gave us our passenger pass. NCL deleted our stop at Seattle without any prior notice. We found out this deletion when we boarded the ship. NCL however compensated us with $50 each. Entertainment were mostly Broadway musicals without any variety. Some of the entertainment has an entrance fee. The inside room was smaller than the smaller ship. When we reached San Francisco, all passengers must check with the immigration at the terminal building. With more than 4000 passengers to process, NCL provided only 1 checkout counter to check IDs. No wonder the cue was really long. Because of this long line, I started to get sick and passed out while on the line. Per my wife, NO NCL PERSONNEL assisted us while I was laying on the floor. Thank God, one of the passenger called 911. I was taken to the emergency room of California Pacific Medical Center. It took the hospital more than 5 hours to complete the medical tests and diagnosis. I missed the ship and NCL provided us a hotel room and a flight home to Los Angeles the following day. I believe the long line gave me the stress and sickness. I will never a large NCL ship cruise again. Read Less

We cruise once or twice a year usually on Princess or Carnival, the reason we decided to go on Norwegian is because we wanted to try out a new ship and since Bliss is a brand new ship it made our decision very easy. Embarkation: We were traveling with two children 3 and 11 months so we had a stroller. Bliss only has 16 elevators on average about 10 elevators less then any other ship we've been on with less passengers so to get on and off the ship or between the floors every-time took very long time and was very frustrating. Dining: The garden buffet had a good selection but several times we've encountered food to be under cooked. Dining rooms took forever to get your food (we were a party of 9) but still it should take hours to eat. Special dining were the worst, not only it took forever to get your food but we got food poisoning TWICE in two separate restaurants (not just couple of us but the entire party). When my kid was trowing up the next morning the manager approached us took our information but nothing came of it. Service: Through out our years of cruising the service on Bliss was horrible. Not sure if crew is overworked or there is something else going on but they were rude, unresponsive and service was just slow. It is like you were asking them for a favor every-time. On-board Experience: EVERYTHING IS EXTRA on the ship, I was surprised that the water slides were free since they were charging for everything, also if you wanted to go to some shows or restaurant you had to reserve ahead of time. The first day we got on the boat everything was already reserved and we had to get on a waiting list for most of the activities. Also there is not that much open/roaming areas on the ship, it seems that they tried to put as many state rooms on the ship as possible. Cabin: Was ok, smaller then on other ships, had a nice size bathroom but i wish the closet was designed different. It was right next to the couch and getting to it was tough. Read Less

Embarkation I got a taxi to the port in LA and we instantly hit serious traffic the second we got to the port entrance. It took half an hour to go half a mile. I ended up getting out of the taxi and walking the rest of the way. I then had to stand in line for security for 40 minutes and once I got through that there was 'priority' check in. 'Priority' with NCL means anyone who has ever cruised with them before whether that's a 3 day cruise or whether you have spent 6 months on board. Needless to say this was another 40 mins and a complete joke to be called priority. Disembarkation It took over 2 hours to get off the ship and through customs. It was like nothing I have ever experienced before. It was chaos and I can honestly say they should not cruise out of LA if they don't have the capacity to get everyone off the ship in a decent time. Loads of people missed their flights due to this. Once on board the ship itself was beautiful but it was just so overcrowded. Unless you book all your restaurants in advance you will be eating at 10pm or 5pm. Cabin I had a studio cabin and was horrified to see the bed had shrunk by half on this ship. It did give a bit more space but when a cabin is this small bed size doesn't really make much difference. As usual upon arrival both of my pillows smelt badly of man sweat so I needed two fresh pillows which Norwegian just don't seem to have.So it was a week of sleeping on sunken in sweat pillows that stank. My cabin steward cleaned my cabin whenever she felt like it rather than every day. My bin wasn't emptied on a daily basis and the cleaning was really half hearted. Dining As always the food in the main dining rooms were lukewrm at best. This is a theme throughout NCL and something they just cannot get a grip on. There were plenty of specialty dining options but I noticed that all of them apart from Teppanyaki are now a la carte so gone are the days of having more than one starter. And Teppanyaki is now up to $39. The food in Teppanyaki is definitely the best and the only one where you might get value for money. Le Bistro was disappointing (overcooked meat and chewy) as was Ocean Blue (tasteless lobster). Los Lobos wasn't anything special and La Cucina is bog standard Italian fare which isn't worth paying extra for. I didn't go to Cagneys on this ship but I have been before and after being served a cold steak I have never returned. The buffet is just low quality food as is the food in the Observation lounge. Entertainment Low grade shows not even worth sitting until the end of. The main show was SIx which was basically 6 women singing stories about being the wives of Henry VIII. No substance and nothing special. The singers weren't that great either. The Beatles was just boring. There were no shows that displayed skill, talent, dancing, acrobatics, just boring singing. The comedian was okay but again nothing special. There were the same old game shows Not So Newlywed and Deal or No Deal. There was a new one called the Wheel of Ill Will but it wasn't that great. Service The staff generally seemed quite miserable apart from Carla and Nestor in the Sugarcane Bar who were always smiling and upbeat. I accidentally booked my airport transfer twice once at home in the Uk and once on board. At no time did Guest Services say to me 'oh you have already booked a transfer' and when I took it up with NCL at home they refused to credit my card and offered me onboard credit.Which I refused. I am yet to see if they will credit my card. Ports & Shore Excursions Mazatlan - I got left behind by the NCL tour operator and had to find my own way back to the ship. Went on the Stone Island trip $89. You go on a catamaran across to the island (peninsula) and then you get in a cart to a restaurant overlooking the beach. You can go on the beach but the tour guides tell you that you will be bothered by sellers. I sat in the restaurant and was bothered by sellers in there every two minutes so I couldn't imagine how much worse it would be on the beach. I met a lady travelling solo and spent the excursion talking with her. We asked the tour guide Delize if we could join the 3.15pm group instead of going back with her at 2.15pm and she said that would be no problem and she would add us to Erika's group. She came back and said it was all done and that we would be leaving at 3.15pm with Erika. At 2.51pm I noticed everyone had gone. I asked a waiter at the restaurant and he said yeah they left about 10 mins ago. I panicked and spoke with the restaurant manager called Jorge who was frantically trying to call Erika who wasn't answering. In the end we had no choice but to get in this random guys truck and be taken to the pier, which was pretty scary when you are alone in Mexico in a place that has a travel advisory for US citizens not to travel. When we got to the pier the catamaran had already left so the guy was whistling for them to come back. They eventually turned around and came back but it was the scariest experience of my life. The tour operator didn't even say anything when I got on the catamaran and the lady I had met on the excursion who also got left behind asked her when did she realise she had left two passengers behind. She said they left over half an hour earlier to sail to see the rockface at the entrance to the port and blamed it all on Delize. When I got onboard we reported it to guest services. After 24 hours I hadn't heard anything so went to see guest services again. Another 24 hours passed and I contacted the lady who was also left behind and she said Shorex had called her the day before offering her 50% of all her excursions back and I was annoyed because I hadn't had any contact from NCL at all. She said she had an appt to see the assistant general manager Dieter Welp at 6pm and could I join her. I was just horrified that nobody had bothered to contact me about what had happened at all. We met with Dieter and it resulted in nothing more than a refund of the excursion which was paltry considering what had happened. I took it up with NCL when I got home and they didn't want to know. Would not listen to me or bother to contact Dieter Welp to confirm what happened just basically called me a liar and said it was all my fault and begrudgingly offered me a dining package on my next cruise (which you get included with free at sea anyway). As if I am ever going to want to cruise with NCL after this huge failure. I am a Platinum member and have always been a loyal customer of NCL but to leave two passengers stranded and then not even take accountability for it is shocking. If you can't be safe on an excursion with NCL then that's not a cruise line I want to travel with. Puerto Vallarta - did the Marietas Islands Eco Tour with Vallarta Adventures via NCL and wasn't that impressed. We spent 90 mins on a catamaran sailing to the islands. When we arrived we were taken snorkelling as we were not allowed on the islands. The fish there were not that impressive and the water was cloudy so you couldn't really see much. There was the option for paddle boarding and kayaking but there wasn't really enough time. We then were taken around a few rocks sticking out of the water to be shown the birds and then we headed back to the port. We did stop once more to snorkel but there were three dead eels floating in the water which didn't make it very tempting to jump in.Again we were not allowed on the beach. Cabo San Lucas - I did the Exclusive Beach Resort at Me Cabo Melia hotel which was beautiful. Not very far from the port and very luxurious. Only had 2 hrs 45 mins there despite our excursion being advertised as 4 hours. The food was included as was one drink. The main advantage of coming here was for the free Wifi. The food you chose off the menu and I had the fish tacos which were really good. This was my last cruise with NCL after 12 cruises in 3 years with them as I am so disgusted by their attitude and behaviour. From now on it's Celebrity all the way as the level of service and the all round quality is far superior. You should be very careful travelling with them as once you are off that boat they do not care about you at all. Their own member of staff was murdered in Roatan and all they did was cancel the cruises for a week there. I think that speaks volumes about them as a company. Read Less

PacifIc Coastal cruises are great for a relaxing getaway but not this time: 2.5 hours for embarkation and the lifeboat drill after 11 pm was just the start of this disaster vacation that created more stress an angst than one could ever imagine! When it was time to get off at the ports they were long lines weaving around the entire ship. Try booking specialty restaurants – nothing was ever even available yet there were still lines to waiting for them to tell you that nothing was available. Except for some special instances the food was average at best. Forget the bus say unless you wanted to spend an hour walking around trying to find a seat. Oh and if you want to try any entertainment don’t even think about it on the ship. It shows were all sold out lines were long, however we were finally able to catch the comedy show as long as we were standing probably in violation of fire code in the very back! Read Less

From transfer: the transfer bus is not ready, guests have to wait 4 hours at LAX. Embarkation: staff make sure my credit card is right, then we double check the Help Desk on ship, at the end of CRuise (21 days), they mixed up my charge account. Mini Suite Room Design and Cleaning: we paid pricey for this MA class room 9 months before cruising, the design of room layout is not easy to move around and storage space is not enough. The shelf was broken and missing, the staff said, they can NOT repair it. entertainment: every show we went, we watched a lot guests left in the middle of program. most of the E-staff talk English in all kind of strange accent. food and restaurants: food is terrible in quality for freshness and the ways of prepared. The India Chief Chef maybe cook the way we are not used to it. This was a 21 day cruise on the Norwegian Bliss, that was very disappointing. We have cruised a number of other lines before, this was our first on Norwegian. We were excited to go thru the Panama Canal, and the stops were all good, what we expected. Careful with the excursions they provide, a number of them are just shopping stops, that you pay good money for. Our problems were mostly with the food on the ship, there was one restaurant that was good, that was at an additional fee, Cagney's Steakhouse. we ate at all the others as well. Even for the additional fees, they were not good. The buffet, was no better than an high school cafeteria's food, and the main dining rooms, not only was the food bad, but the service was even worse. To make it even worse, they did not care. One breakfast in the main dining room it took over 1 hour to get a basket of croissants, everyone else got there food but me, we asked three times, and no one even cared. Finally, just left. Balcony room on Deck 12 - was small but adequate, and room steward was good and very nice. Entertainment was good we saw Jersey Boys, Six, and a number of entertainers, All we good. If you are a smoker, you will be relegated to a small section in the Aft of the ship, not a lot of room for all the smokers, and if it rains you are in the rain. Read Less

We have cruised twice before on Holland America and once with Royal Caribbean and were generally satisfied but this was by far the worst of the four cruises. The problems included: 1) We routinely had to wait 25+ minutes to eat dinner at the complimentary restaurants because the ship has insufficient dining space. When added to the 25+ typical wait for food because of insufficient kitchen staff the 50+ minutes were unacceptable. Furthermore, we were not informed that such waits would occur if we do not reserve. Had we wanted to reserve we would have had to wait an hour on line to reserve on Day 1, and once we were able to reserve all of the dining rooms were booked for all reasonable hours. Further, NCL could have allowed us to book dinner times, all shows, tendering, and laser tag etc. online prior to boarding but did not do so. The result was that we could only play laser tag once and, due to poor communication by NCL, found out about choosing tenders too late to book the first five tenders. 2) The mattresses were not comfortable. The mattress springs dug into my back, so I informed the housekeeper on day 2. He made it worse by turning over the pillowtop mattress, which caused the springs to dig in more. Only after I complained to Guest Relations on day 5 was a foam mattress topper placed on top of the existing mattress. However, I still had four uncomfortable night of sleep due to a poorly trained and inconsiderate housekeeper. 3) Despite primarily sailing to Alaska, the Bliss does not have a retractable roof on its pool deck and NCL seems to aim to avoid disclosing this fact. Therefore, we were unable to swim for most of the cruise because it was to cold to swim on the way to and from New York. 4) Wi-Fi did not work on decks 15 through 20 5) Although being cleaned frequently the bathroom in the cabin always smelled, as though the sewage was being stored in the stateroom’s toilet throughout the cruise. 6) On two evenings we had no shows to watch because the Bliss has only one theater and performs its two main shows (Six and Jersey Boys) for two nights each. Additionally, the comedian shows also repeat, and two of the three comedians were not funny. Also, one show (Brent and Sarah) was amateurish. 7) Special meals we ordered were not available on the first day. Additionally, no one informed us we have to order them in advance until the third day, so we also did not get them on day 3. Also, many orders were improperly filled and did not include our requested items. Many waiters also lacked familiarity with the process and could not speak English, which caused long waits to place orders. 8) Employees were poorly trained, lacked an understanding of English, and constantly gave wrong information. For example, on day 4 Jake repeatedly announced that we need only to bring our room keys to go on Stirrup Cay which we did. But when we got there we were sent by an employee back because we did not have passports/driver’s licenses. As it turned out passports/licenses were unnecessary, but this wasted an hour of our time because then all other tenders were called. 9) We had to wait 90 minutes to begin disembarking to Stirrup Cay and 30 minutes in Florida because NCL failed to make proper arrangements to allow us to disembark upon arrival. NCL even claimed they needed permission from the authorities to disembark onto their own private island (Stirrup Cay). This never happened on our other three cruises. 10) The children’s pool is small and constantly full for kids when it was warm. Therefore, my kids did not want to swim in it and would not have had space to do so. Also, depth is a constant 4’7”which is above most children’s heads and children are not permitted to swim in the adult pool. 11) We were promised complimentary Wi-Fi, but had to pay ~$4 to activate each package, which was not disclosed at time of booking. Other complimentary packages (e.g., drinks) also have hidden fees. 12) The cruise line refused to allow us to dispute gratuities after the cruise because we had not filled out a form while on the cruise, even though we indicated we would file a credit card dispute, we did not know this was required because they did not disclose or prominently disclose that filling out the form on the ship was required, filling out the form would have required us to wait on a long line, and they could have emailed us the form to fill out. We were unaware that we needed closed toe footwear in order to get on the Go Karts so people were turned away and had to re-book after standing on long lines. The rooms were too small and the staff was not very pleasant. My family had several incidents with poor treatment. My 8 year old nephew was insulted by a staff member because he ordered a salad and that was all he wanted. I told the waiter he eats a lot of salads and he said "oh yea, how come you so big". The food was horrible and there wasn't a variety of food to accommodate.
