We are not new to cruising. We were travelling with two other couples from previous cruises. Stunningly large ship doesn’t always mean a great ship. Cruise was great ship less than good. We experienced a lot of negatives such as. Not enough pools, unsupervised Hollywood Observatory adults only pool and someone took their grandchild in who defacated in the pool meaning the closure of pool for 2 days. Grill restaurant Tbone was well done on the edge and raw in the middle to the point you would get sick if you ate the bloody meat. One staff member was rude both during photos at dinner and at the shop. Another staff member sold me a $600 camera with an American warranty. Thankfully I returned it the next day and got the Australian version. What does it say when a staff member ask you where did you get the blankets for movies under the stars. We bought the soda package online and waited four days before receiving our soda drink bottles and then only because we asked every day. I also bought a coffee as I like my lattes. Alas never got a decent coffee the whole two weeks. Very bitter and I would like to ask the question did they have a barista or just use the staff. Never once did we get into Princess theatre. It’s too small and people were waiting for 1.5 hours beforehand to get in to the show. Big ship and very elegant but nothing personable about it. With the hot weather coming and the lack of good size pools makes for not good swimming. Will continue to cruise with Princess but not Majestic. Oh and we even found a piece of plastic in one of the desserts but they seemed more interested in telling us the money they paid the chocolatier for his recipe. Also other ships have milkshakes or thick shakes in the ice cream shop but majestic didn’t. Crazy when you have kids onboard. Everyone you spoke to said they were not happy. Lots of trips. Nearly every second day you saw someone with a new break mainly arms. Again will cruise princess but not majestic we stopped anytime dining as the menu was nothing to write home about. It’s not good when the burgers hot dogs and even the pizzas were more enticing. Read Less

Having sailed with Princess on other occasions, we found them to be all that we expected. As soon as we heard the brand new Majestic Princess was coming to Australia, we immediately booked to go on the first cruise out of Sydney. In a nutshell the ship is big, new and shiny. The crew are fantastic, food in the Buffet ( they call it the Market Place) was okay, but we have had better on other Princess Cruises. The food in the Dining Room was very good as were the waiting staff.. Here's the crunch, The ship is big damn big, we found the balcony cabins to be smaller that on other Princess Ships. They have squeezed in more cabins (more passengers) but have failed to provide sufficient lifts to move the high number of passengers up and down the additional decks. This ship had the feel of a live sheep export ship. Crowds at the lifts were a joke. It was said that the Majestic Princess was built for the "Chinese Market". As far as we are concerned they should have kept this ship in China. In the long term this ship will not be well received in the Australian market. Read Less

We did a few cruises, and loved the last one on the Diamond Princess from Sydney to Singapore, it was civilised, well organised, with amazing entertainment and great service, several different outdoor areas to relaxed and unwind but also several areas to appreciate music and entertainers in the evening and to dance if we wanted. None of this was the case on the Majestic Princess ! I don't know if it is still in the teething process, but nothing was clear, the plan of the ship doesn't make sense (one big outdoor area with two small pools, 6 small spa pools (one not working as a spa) for 3000 passengers !! One undercover indoor pool area with strong chlorine smell, which was supposed to be a fun hollywood disco at night, but which was empty after 5.00 pm. No deck in the front of the ship. No real promenade deck (just tow decks on level 7 on both side of the Atrium with 10 chairs). And only one dancing area in the very public and opened atrium. A big shopping area (which was described as the biggest department store at sea !!) with 3 shops (one jewellery and leather, one perfume and one very sad clothes shop with a poor range of polo shirts for men and stretch cotton dresses for women) ! A casino (which again was supposed to be one of the biggest at sea) which was cut in one third to create an extra bar (the Crooners). The nightmare started at boarding in Shanghai : 4.5 hours standing in a queue for boarding, part of it in full sun, no seats, no water, no explanation of what was going on !!! We had a mini suite, which although slightly smaller then the Diamond, are a good size. But it was smelly and not clean (clamps of hair on the balcony, blood stains on the curtains..) We understood later that the ship was delayed on her arrival to Shanghai, and that is where most of these problems were coming from, however no one was there to explain and apologise ! After initial disappointment, we decided to make the best out of it, and remain positive. However disorganisation kept on bothering us : The second night we had to wait over half an hour for a table in the Concerto restaurant (and we were anytime dining), and again 3 days later. Most of the nights half of the wine were not available from the wine list (the waiters were very apologetic and had an exhaustive hand written list of the wine which were no more available (our main waiter told us that it would get better after Brisbane which was 2 days before our arrival. And worse of all, you had to queue for almost everything (a free seat around the pool, a free seat on the decks bellow, a free seat in the atrium cafe, a drink at most of the bars, a waiter to pass by...) The service was mostly pleasant, but they certainly did lack numbers. We understood that this ship was created to cater for the Asian market, and we knew it when we booked. We liked the idea of the Karaoke rooms (which were cancelled when we arrived) we like the idea of the juice bar and the dim sim and dumpling bars (which were cancelled). I have the feeling that the marketing team got overwhelmed by the change in the client target (more than 80 % of the clientele was from Australia, New Zealand or North America !) and tried to patch where and however they could. If you add to this that the entertainment was poor : Same three groups over and over from one side of the boat to the other. One really good show in 22 days. And the same entertainer for the whole trip in most of the bar. Day entertainment was equally poor if you compare it to the entertainment onboard the Diamond Princess (and for a ship of this size). And the fontain water show (which was advertised as the main attraction) is a totally non event (and according to me a total lost of space on the main outdoor deck, and could have been an extra pool) There is no doubt that this vessel is meant to be a money maker (we payed $499 to access the only quiet spa area-advertised as the tranquility heaven of the ship). we didn't have the wine we wanted on the wine list, but were offered repeatedly to join the paying wine tasting to try the wine from the menu, to purchase digestifs alcohols with matching glasses... !!! And a lot of fuss and advertising about deals in the shops (a big piece of the daily entertainment program), at the spa... In conclusion, we made the best out of these holidays, but wouldn't know whom recommend it to, as it doesn't seam to be clear on the clientele target : If you like quietness and luxe, you will find it noisy (constant loud music in the outdoor public areas, and no where to escape) If you like loud music fun and dance, there is no dance floors, no disco, and no fun dance entertainment. If you like outdoor water and pool be ready to share it with a lot of other people. But we did meet a few nice people and friends, and were reassured by the kindness of most of the staff people, which is actually the main positive of this trip ! Read Less

Other reviewers have referred to the debacle that was our boarding in Shanghai. A two to four-hour wait in the Asian heat was just the beginning of our worst cruise of more than twenty so far. This ship is shockingly, badly designed. On board there is no sensation of being at sea, due to the enclosed nature of all of the public areas. There are not enough lounge seats for more than 3500 passengers and none with a sea view. Those on board were aged and infirm. They were also cranky and demanding of the very friendly crew. Many times we saw people with walking sticks and even electric carts just fold up and walk as well as the rest of us. This is not the fault of the ship. But - our usual Crooners Bar was horrible. On past Princess cruises we've danced till dawn with fantastic performers but this ship has an overly-lit room divided in half by a wall and one half has no connection with the performer. It was previously a 'high-rollers' gaming space and has kept the stench of cigarettes. We missed having sail-aways from a bar with a view. The busy, windy and noisy Wake View Bar is completely inadequate for pre-dinner drinks. The only food we enjoyed was in two specialty restaurants - Crown Grill and Harmony, though if you don't have six for the cellar room in Crown you'll sit with blinds down because the lifeboats are outside the windows. Whoever designed this awful ship? The closest we got to the ocean, other than from our own deck 12 balcony, was from a small window in Vines bar and you might be in any dark bar anywhere in the world - and it was 11am! La Mer French restaurant should be avoided and was empty for most of the cruise. It sits above the only dance floor and loud band on the ship with nothing to separate it from passing foot traffic. We booked online ahead of the cruise for a celebration dinner but when we saw the location we asked several days ahead for a table as far away from the noise as possible. We were told it was 'first come, first served' starting at 6pm although we had been given only one booking time, 7.30pm. We made the mistake of dining there and the noise was deafening. Food otherwise was ordinary and frequently cold. Breakfast once took more than an hour to be served in the dining room. The wine list reduced every day. We had excellent waiters in Allegra for traditional late dining and the efforts of the crew to keep us going were obvious everywhere. Shops were boring and either ridiculously expensive or bargain-priced T-shirts, with nothing in between. We did not take any ship's excursions, since they were too expensive and we'd previously visited every port. Disembarkation in Sydney was the best yet and well-organised with helpful porters. I will start with the positives - disembarkation at Sydney was fast and efficient. That's the positives taken care of! So now the ship and the cruise! The ships main problem is too many passengers and not enough public areas - so it is ALWAYS busy and finding a seat is not easy. Embarkation took over 3 hours for most people thanks to total disorganization at the port. At meal times with any time dining we were given a buzzer and told to come back when it buzzed - 40 minutes later it buzzed, so any time dining doesnt mean any time you want to dine, it means any time they want to seat you. The dining room was not full, they kept a lot of tables empty! Entertainment. What entertainment? In over 3 weeks there were just THREE stage shows with the singers and dancers and the rest of time they had VERY mediocre performers - for example an Asian Harmonica player had the first nights show in the theater and you have to ask yourself how entertaining could half an hour of a Harmonica player be? I will give you a hint, people were walking out after one tune and by the 4th more had left than remained! He also performed in other areas across the ship for the next week or so and the other artists that featured from then on were about as 'good'! The on board singing group were totally lacking in enthusiasm and ability. There is NO promenade deck! NEVER been on a ship without a deck to sit on and walk around the entire length of the ship - but Majestic doesn't have one. WHO on earth approved THAT design error? The coach supplied for our one Princess shore tour was old and smelled of petrol. We had trouble hearing the guide over the noise of the engine when it idled and the trip ended in a smelly awful market having driven past the beautiful shops of Orchard Road in Singapore. When our Mini suite balcony door was open, there was a hideous howling sound which made it impossible to leave it open at night. The noise was pointed out to the cabin steward on the first morning and yet was not fixed till the 18th day!! Our cabin was rarely cleaned before lunch and our friends cabin had a continuous smell of stale urine from day 1. This on a relatively NEW ship! Wines ran out long before the cruise ended and the one remaining red wine by the glass, a nasty, inferior and over priced drop was desperately offered from that point on. The wines werent even restocked when we made landfall. So many people tried to use the laundry to get tokens for the machines, but more often than not it charged their cruise card and didnt deliver tokens. I waited 40 minutes in the laundry for someone who I was told 4 times was on their way to arrive before giving up! An Elite member, who have their washing done for them as part of their loyalty program, was using the laundry on one occasion when I was there because she said it had taken FIVE days for her wash to come back when they sent it for the service wash - so much for loyalty. Having previously cruised with Princess we looked forward to the usual facilities and service and found neither up to their usual standard. The balcony on Majestics Mini Suite is substantially smaller than their other ships and despite the ship being less than two years old it felt shabby. When advised of the problems we had experienced, Princess offered us a pathetic $250 each towards a future cruise in compensation, which we turned down as it is clear Princess has lowered its standards across the board and none of their ships will be as they once were. So in closing, avoid Majestic Princess at all costs. AVOID Princess or severely lower your expectations because they are heading down the same road as their partner P & O. Read Less

Spent 22 days on the Majestic and wish we had not spent a single night on board. The boarding was hell, the food wasnt very good and the any time dining simply didnt work out. Unless we ate at 5.45 we would have to wait ages for a table even though they werent all full. The entertainment was so bad we only went to 5 shows over the entire three weeks and the Princess cruise dancers and singers only performed 3 times over the entire period. What a joke on a cruise ship. So many things didnt work as they should it is hard to remember them all. Several types of wine ran out and werent replaced even when we docked. The laundry token machines were always empty but still charged our cabin for the tokens we didnt get. Our room was only clean on the surface and was never tidied till lunch time each day - obviously the cabin steward had too many cabins to look after - probably due to a shortage of staff. The balcony door impersonated moaning minnie or a howling Banshee when it was open forcing us to keep it closed and make the extra payment for a balcony over an ocean view a total waste. Despite all that, Princess thought the problems we had had were worth $250 in future cruise deposits for each of us but if we wanted to accept their offer, we would have had to write back to them 16 days before they sent us the offer. I am one preferred customer (platinum) who will NEVER be traveling with Princess again. Now where is that phone number for Celebrity? Read Less

This was the floating Nursing Home! Unless you are a Senior Citizen don`t go on this ship. We are not exactly young ( 55) however the average age of passengers must have been 75 plus.Entertainment was poor although it probably suited the older passengers. Food was very average with same choices in the buffet every day - very little change to the menu. Bar / waiting staff and stateroom attendants were fantastic which was a positive! The theatres weren`t big enough to accommodate the number of people wanting to watch the shows with many having to stand. The ports of call were good. The embarkation process in Shanghai was the worst we have experienced with lack of communication from Princess and terminal staff as to why passengers were waiting out in the searing heat for over 3 hours. • Bitten by beg bugs. • The European staff consider my sea sickness to be a contagious disease and warned me to stay in the cabin for the next three days. • I suspected my nausea was caused by the mango sago pudding I ate in the International Cafe. Two of my friends also have the same symptoms. • No free coffee at Deck 5 International Cafe, they sarcastically asked us to get our coffee from Deck 16. They spoilt our mood to enjoy our tea time. • The public area was always noisy, MC shouting all the time. • All free restaurants need to line up. • The ship rocks all the while. • No one is able to find the gym center. • The walkpath to the restaurants were confusing and unfoundable. • The food from the Buffet Restaurant is exactly the same in Fine Dining restaurant. • By 8pm, they are not selling ice cream anymore and the food from the restaurant was even lesser. • They want the cabin back by 8am by knocking the door which it’s too early. • Hygiene issue: buffet restaurant cleaning staff swiping the floor and cleaning up the dustbin in front of us while we are eating. • Not serious in enforcing hand cleaning before meal, too few stations to wash hands. • The staffs are not professional. From embarcation in Shanghai, where no one from princess could be found. You had to shove and push your way for over 500 metres inside terminal. People in wheelchairs pushing there luggage through the terminal with not even 1 staff member from princess to even tell you you where in the right terminal! No queues, just passengers pushing and shoving. The captain blamed the late arrival of the ship. The real reason, princess crew to lazy to help, and couldn’t be bothered to send anybody to take luggage on outside of terminal , staff to help people to properly que up, or just to direct people to right terminal! Most passengers only found the right terminal because they went to terminal 1 where another ship was embracing passengers. I have to tell you that the 3 terminals are probably 1 kilometre apart!. We took 3 1/2 hours to board, others took up to 5 hours to board. This ship was a nightmare. Don’t be fooled. This ship has no public space to the amount of people she carries. Everywhere you go there are no seats to sit. On sea days you que for everything, from a cup of coffee, which takes more than 1/2 an hour, then you can’t find a seat to sit down..The grand class ship has double the public space than this ship. The food suffers the same problem, they can’t handle cooking for over 5000 thousand every meal. The food in the main dinning rooms and the buffet is very poor quality. Ships have gotten bigger, prices have come down, something has to give? If you cruised 15 years ago, and compare with what you get now. It’s like night to day! The service is exactly the same. How do they find staff for all these ships there building each year. Most of the staff don’t speak English which is a bit of a problem when most of your customers only speak English. The ques at the customers service desk for the first 5 days had to be seen to be believed. They weren’t there to say how good a job they were doing! My balcony door was broken and couldn’t get it to open. It took 3days and several phone calls to staff who barely spoke English, for them to come to fix the door. After reading the reviews on cruise critic about this ship, princess should be ashamed to have this ship in there fleet. To anyone who think this was a good ship, you need to wake up, don’t listen to there crap about how good they are, which they drum into you from the moment you walk on. This cruise is a nightmare! I have Platinum status with Princess Cruise so I am not new to cruising or cruising with Princess. I was in China earlier this year. I noticed Majestic Princess was docking at the port. As a last minute decision, my wife and I booked a 4 night trip from China to Japan on Majestic Princess. I found out the hard way. Princess in Asia market is actually a different company and unfortunately management in Asia market is very poor. Booking - In Asian/Chinese market, you cannot book your travel with Princess or your US agent. Chinese agencies prepaid for a block of rooms and manage the block on the ship. Not a big deal but it is very different from normal Princess ships because the ship/hotel management does not directly interface with you while you are on the ship. You have to interface with your travel agency's representative on the ship. Embarkation - The embarkation process was a mess. Princess cruise does not manage the process. The process is delegated to each travel agencies and port employees. while we were in the gangway. The travel agent demanded for our passport. I asked why they told me it is a Chinese government policy. We did not feel comfortable to give them our US passports while we are in a foreign country. I refused to gave them my passport. The travel agent threatened that I will not be able to board the ship. While since this is not my first time boarding a Princess ship. We basically ignore the travel agent and walked on-board like a pro. Ship crew did not say a word. But keep in your mind, rest of my group went through the trip without their passports. Stateroom - our room has a balcony. The door was locked by hotel staff. I asked them to open it they refused to do so and told me it is too cold outside. Mind me, I was on a number of Alaska cruises. Not once I was denied balcony access by this reason. We end up complete the trip with a balcony room without access to the balcony. Our room looks nice but we did not have basic supplies like toilet paper. I had to repeatedly request it but the steward very slow on refill it. We end up had to go to public restroom and take toilet paper from public facilities. The layout of the Stateroom is nice and has more space than other classes of Princess cruise ships. Bring your own toilet paper. no kidding Staff - My guess is Princess is using this ship as a training ground for its staff. All staff from all departments looks green. They speak very little English and Chinese. Staff at Purser's desk does not speak English at all. Generally, we had difficulties to communicate with hotel and restaurant staff. Dinning - Very different from your normal Princess cruise. You cannot reserve your dinning tables. Everything is first come first serve, which isn't a problem but Chinese culture does not respect waiting in line. Restaurant staff made no effort what so ever to maintain the waiting line. Your average wait is hours to just get into the dinning rooms. I got a feeling this is done by design so that more people use the buffet. There was no formal nights, not special featured menu. Food is so-so. Entertainment - By this point, my expectation was very low but it still manage to surprise me. Staff made no effort to maintain the order. In theaters, one person would occupy multiple seats throughout the performance. People would walk on seats just to beat you to the empty seats. The only way you can get a seat without getting into a fight is to be in the theater hours before the show. Public Area - It is a Royal class. But this ship is design for Asia market only, which really means, small atrium, fewer public area. all the space is used for state rooms. It is not the same as Royal Princess. I felt like a sardine in a can when I was at public area. I never experienced that even on smaller (grand class) Princess ships Excursions - None what so ever. Princess does not provide excursion services on this trip at all. It is delegated to the travel agencies. In my case, we were hauled to a shopping center and a city park in Japan. You don't even have an option if you want to pay for it. At this point, I was royally fed up. I just left the tour agent/guide and went on explore on my own. At which point, she threatened me that I won't be able to get back onto the ship. But luckly, with my US passport and basic Japanese language skills and google translate, we had no issues while we were on our own in Japan. Crew had no issue to let us back onto ship. Just make sure you reserve more time for getting back onboard. Waiting in line is just not a part of Chinese culture and you will be surprised by the things people are trying to smuggle back on board. Special Surprise - After I am back to United States, the cruise trip did not appear on my travel history. I promptly contacted captain's circle. At first, they had no record of this sailing. I was instructed to send some pictures as proof that I was onboard. I did so. To my surprise, according to Princess's manifest they HAVE NO RECORD OF WE WERE EVER ON-BOARD. My guess is and it is only a guess, the ship's manifest was just fudged by each of the travel agencies. Princess and Majestic never had a true passenger manifest. That's right folks, if you gone missing during this sailing. You are never on the ship. No liability for Princess if you die or gone missing during this trip. Overall - Do not assume Princess Cruise is what you think of in Asia market. It is a different company and different experience. Majestic Princess is dedicated to the Asia market. I would avoid this ship. Read Less

We have done quite a few cruises with Princessand have been delighted with them . The new majestic was something we were looking forward to . Unfortunately we found it very boring and was glad to get off . When asked why things were not happening we were told it was meant for the Asian market even though Australian, British and Americans were the largest crowd on board . Sail away parties was obsolete and very rarely did a live band play on deck so we could all have fun ,the deck space was also very small. The outdoor cinema was okay but having to watch constant repeats of music videos was poor. The majectic was suppose to have the best of the best but I think they have missed the mark . Sun lounges were constantley in the sun no shade area , unless you wanted to sit at a table with chairs . Very uncomfortable and uninviting . Zumba was done on an open deck in the extreme heat. The entertainment was poor . The cruise director and his staff seemed only able to do trivia. If this had been our first Princess cruise it would be our last . The indoor pool smelt so bad of chlorine and in the evening this area became the disco which did not work. The cruise tours were very expensive and the one we took was very rushed therefor we cancelled other tours . Overall the experience was not good , I think Princess has got this one all wrong . After taking 4 previous cruises with Princess, we had high expectations of the new Majestic Princess having sailed on her sister ship the Royal Princess, also the Sun and Dawn Princess. What a dreadful let down, now having Platinum status we were looking forward to a speedy check-in, wrong, it took two and a half hours as they did not have a card for us (prior to setting of were TOLD we had an upgrade to a junior suite, all well and good till we found it was under the pool area so we declined and said we wanted the cabin we had booked last August and were told that we would indeed have the one we booked) Cabin OK en-suite minuscule, cabin steward very good. Ship fitted out for Chinese market not European market. Food in Market Place Buffet was terrible,, had better in transport cafes, badly laid out nothing grouped together you spent ages trying to find food (eg rolls opposite end from soup etc)Food was never hot , barely warm, meat always under cooked, veggies same, could always see next day dishes which seem to have been made up of leftovers from previous day, poor uninterested service, some fruit on display such as rotting black bananas out of cool room, other brown fruit on display, though some good fresh cut fruit available. Lots of greasy Indian food and USA stews. We opted for Allegro restaurant fixed early sitting but found food not well displayed on plates and indifferent service, after a few nights started going to Anytime Dining and found the food was much better there though service hit and miss. Entertainment worst ever, a few good shows in the Princess Theater but bad ones too, only 1 full show a week which was good but the Chinese juggler, please this is supposed to be first class entertainment? I think not also at least 4 Tribute shows and a runner up in a Philippines talent show, shame on you Princess. No shows in the Vista Lounge, what a waste, no Wheelhouse Bar no entertainment on deck except a film in the afternoon and one at night which blasts you off the deck and who wants to sit in high heat and humidity. The library was just about non existent and only 2 computers for 3,500 guests (not everybody has a Kindle or I Pad computer) The shops available were so high end big names that no one went in them. Enormous Karaoke room no one used, heaps of trivia which questions apparently they recycled so that people who got on at the start of the cruise won all the time. Planks on the deck of a man made compound so you burnt your feet, no loungers in the shade as the sids under cover where you used to be able to lay and relax now all table and chairs, also the tiles in front of the Hollywood Pool lethal when wet like ice as I found out when I slipped and hurt my knee, the Hollywood Pool all enclosed stunk of chlorine.. As to disembarkation in Shanghai, what a farce, all colour coded bags and deck numbers totally mixed up, it was a case of find your case ff you can. The trips were very expensive and very badly organised out of all the trips we took the only good one was in Japan to a national park. The guides on the others were woeful and harped on about their "supposed families"they must think westerners a bunch of idiots.I am surprised there complaints box was big enough to hold them all, most people we talked to felt the same as us, on the positive side, we did at least have a good rest and met some very nice and interesting people. We have heard that the Majestic Princes will be sailing out of Sydney next year, if this is so, then the ship will have to have a complete refit as Australians will not stand for this standard of food and entertainment,. This cruise has certainly put us off cruising and will be a long time if ever that we go on another cruise and you can bet it wont be Princess. A very expensive flop. Read Less

This was on the 28 day cruise from Rome to Singapore. 1.        The restrooms in the common area (levels 5, 6 and 7) had 50% or more consistently closed due to maintenance or were not functioning.  There must have been issues in construction or a maintenance issue for this to occur with such a new ship.  I reported this problem to the Passenger Service Desk. 2.       There was condensation dripping from the ceiling in the Princess Theater.  This occurred in the front section of the theater (about the front 10 rows).  The seats would get all wet and no one wanted to sit in them.  Or you would be sitting in them and all at once, you would have water dripping on you.  Again, appears to be a design flaw with the ship that A/C ducts were not properly insulated in order to prevent the condensation from the high humidity. 3.       Elevators were very hot.  Felt like no A/C.  Appeared to be a problem caused by the top floor (level 16) being very hot from door opening out to the pool area.  Again, there appeared to be a design flaw for the ship not being able to properly cool the upper floor and the elevator.  The rest of the ship felt warm all the time like the A/C could not keep up with the warm temperatures we had.  Poorly designed ship. 4.       The walls of our cabin made excessive noise anytime we encountered seas of 10 feet or more which isn’t even considered to be very rough.  I think we never encountered seas of over 13 feet.  The walls didn’t creak or groan but made a banging noise.  It would sound like someone was knocking on our door.  Twice during the night, my wife got up and went to the door thinking someone was knocking.  It was just a banging noise as the walls would shift or flex due to the rocking motion of the ship.  We have never encountered this on any other ship.  Again, appears to be a design flaw. 5.       On a 28 day cruise, we only had three production shows plus a repeat of one done earlier.  We usually have had two on a 7 day cruise.  That means we had only one half of the number what should be on a 28 day cruise.  Is Princess cutting back on the production shows? 6.       We marked our laundry to be done on a priority basis.  We noticed that were getting our laundry back after2 or three days.  We didn’t say anything about it earlier on the cruise but near the end of the cruise, we sent out the laundry we needed to have done for the balance of our trip.  We sent it out for priority on June 14 and when it wasn’t back by the early evening of June 15, I went to the Passenger Desk to find out what the problem.  They called the laundry and they said they could not find our laundry and we would hear something the next day.  I called the next morning (June 16) and the Passenger Service Desk said the Customer Service Officer would call back.  She called back while we were on tour and left a voice message that the laundry wasn’t lost but it wasn’t done yet.  It would be to us by 3 PM.  She said because there were too many Elite passengers, the ship had decided that Elite passengers could not have priority service with the laundry.  That was why our laundry was being returned late the whole cruise.  When we got back at 3:30PM, only one half had been returned.  I left three messages for the Customer Service Officer but she never returned a call.  The balance of the laundry showed up at about 5PM.  Is it true that a ship can arbitrarily decide to discontinue priority service for Elite passengers?  If so, shouldn’t there have been at least a notice given to the Elite passengers.  Can Princess just decide to delete or remove a service it says it will provide to Elite passengers like this? 7.       On the first night we got on the ship, I went down to the Passenger Service Desk to have a whole punched in our cruise card so we could attach it to our lanyards.  There were only 2 staff members manning the desk at 7:45PM.  After waiting about 40 minutes (and that was in the Elite line), we were told that they were not allowed to punch the cards due to the new locking mechanism for the cabin doors.  We were sent over to the ship store and after asking a representative, we were given a plastic sleeve that could hold the card and be attached to the lanyard.  Many people were upset about the time wasted in this situation.  Since elites probably use lanyards for their cards, this waste time annoyed your most travelled passengers.  My concerns are the following are as follows:  Why on the first night of the cruise with many new passengers getting on the ship, why was the Passenger Service Desk so undermanned?  Why couldn’t a simple sign be put up on the counter advising the passengers of this situation and a box of the holders set by the sign?  No one could think “outside of the box” and come up with a simple solution the serves the passengers better and frees up the staff at the Customer Service Desk. 8.       The trivia was held in the Princess Live.  Since about 95% of the seats in this venue are bolted to the floor, it made it difficult for teams to work together.  You had to crane over the back of the chair I front of you to confer with team members.  Again, a poor design flaw to have the chairs bolted to the floor.  You were unable to make a team circle for trivia. 9.       The food in the dining room can be described as unexciting.  Many of the dishes were blaw and limited in flavor.  The menu repeated about every 7 days.  The number of selections has been reduced from the past.  Had a lamb dish every night when most people do not eat that much lamb.   The salmon and chicken breast on the every night menu was dry and flavorless. 10.   This supposed to be a new ship but varnish on the rail on our balcony was already deteriorated and needed to be revarnished.  Again, questioning the quality of construction and maintenance.  11.   I may be wrong but having every sign on the ship, even its name on the hull, being in both English and Chinese makes we wonder how much the Chinese government paid Princess for this.  Since the largest group on the ship were from Australia and this ship will be going to Australia in a few months for cruises there and New Zealand, they disliked the signage being in Chinese.  A lot of upset Australian passengers. 12.   The casino was a terrible design.  Because about 40% of the space has been dedicated to a VIP Casino, the regular Casino was shrunken.  Things were so tight with the slot machines being so close together, you were unable to walk down an aisle when some one was sitting in a chair at a machine.  Terrible design.  Again, virtually all machines were Chinese.  Most passengers disliked the machines. 13.   Only twice was there ever a show in the Vista Lounge.  Again, on past cruises there would be shows going on in both the Princess Theater and Vista Lounge.  Caused the Princess Theater to be overcrowded.  If you wanted to see the first show at the Princess Theater, you needed to get there at least 30 minutes ahead of the show.  Due to lack of shows in Vista Lounge, it appears Princess is cutting back on the entertainment budget.  Very disappointing. 14.   Chinese passengers represented at most 10% of the passengers but food on the dining room menu and the International Buffet had at least 40-50% of the menu designed for them.  Disappointing. 15.   The high end shops you put on the ship had limited traffic.  These are not the type shops the passengers were looking for.  The traditional cruise store was much smaller and had a reduced choice of inventory.  Poor marketing decision. 16.   The substitution of a French restaurant for Sabatini’s was odd.  The French restaurant appeared to be virtually empty every night. 17.   No gelato ice cream anymore.  Bad choice. Paid extra for Club Class but nothing Princess advertised for Club class came to fruition, except for a mini bottle of red and white wine delivered to our room on embarkation. Bad/little entertainment, night after night. Public toilets were disgusting, blocked, dirty and no hand cleaner. Some areas of the ship smelt like sewer. Market place plates never cleaned properly. Shore excursions were a hit or miss. Some tours were not as explained on the brochure. Ship designed for Asian market we were told all the time and it seemed the reason for every problem including the lack of cleanliness and unhappy/cranky staff.Asked the same question to 5 staff members and got told 5 different answers. Actually some staff didn't even have an answer. Only the Chinese restaurant was enclosed, all other speciality restaurants were in public areas. Décor was new and flashy but, not easy on the eye. There was one person for internet, so be prepared to wait up to 2 hours for any problems to be resolved. Our mini suite was cosy but the balcony was so tiny, not sure dusting was apart of the cleaning resume for our steward. It was never done. Only twice he forgot to clean our cabin. It seemed as if the ship didn't flow right. There is no deck you can actually walk right around. Our dining experience was the only good thing about the trip. Food was always hot and well presented. The smoking area on the top deck has no shelter what so ever. Read Less

I have sailed many many times on Princess and would recommend them HIGHLY ...until now! WOW! I will say, the ship is brand new, in great shape and my bed was upgraded from the usual hard mattress-- but that is where the nice comments end. The ship layout, staff and attitude is catering ONLY to an Asian guest-- and I am not even sure they were thrilled. Good for you if you are Asian and choose this ship, but if not, prepare to be underwhelmed if you loved Princess cruising. You would think that with a new ship they would have their A team as the staff -- um, NO...everyone from the Cruise staff to the room stewards were less than enthusiastic and made no effort to make you feel like a welcomed guest. The bars and restaurants all close early and the usually wonderful bar staff is no where to be found in common areas. My love of that staff ( and the tips to prove it) are usually a HUGE part of my bill, NOT the case this time. If you could find someone, again, there was little interest in service. If you like the cheesy, but fun Skywalkers lounge -- well, you will instead be treated to a DJ under lots of light in the VERY chlorinated smelly indoor pool area - such a lousy replacement. There is lots of space used for private Kareoke rooms, that cost $12 extra per hour /per person and were not used at all on this cruise. They do offer you one free drink, which is nice a useless if you have the drink package. It also had no staff around ( because of the lack of guests I am sure) so it was hard to even find out those details. The food was another MAJOR let down on this trip. We host dinners in the Crown Grill and it was horrible. Normally the steaks, presentation and service are beyond worth the extra money - um, NOT THIS TIME. It was laughable how bad it all was and so embarrassing for those of us who raved about it to first time cruisers. again -- I used to love this and now, just still so frustrated by the lack of effort by anyone on this ship. I also had a dinner at the new Harmony / Cantonese restaurant and that couldn't have been more bland and again -- so not worth the extra money. the food at the cafes were okay, but took a lot longer than usual and again -- the staff just seemed ho hum. The meals in the dining rooms were also -just okay, not really worth getting dressed for if you were expecting nice people or service. If you like to exercise, the gym is nice, but if you want to walk, good luck, there is not a level where you can walk around the ship. it is all reconfigured and the "walking path" is about 25 feet long....so you can get lots of laps in if you are super lazy. We had several first time cruisers with us and it just wasn't a great experience. As I said before, I always looked forward to my Princess Cruises, but I will be looking at other lines. Which is sad. Majestic Princess is by far the worst cruise ship we have ever been to!! we're a family of 4 traveling, 2 kids under age of 7 and 2 adults. ISSUE #1 the minute we walked into our room, it had this fishy rotten smell in the room. My wife noticed it at first, she contacted the front desk staff, they assured us that they will shampoo and add air freshener to the room. we were very surprise as this is a brand new ship and this shouldn't be the case! we went out to dinner, came back and the smell is still the same. we complained again and again for 4 days. the 5th night they finally got a technician who stated that they have a leak on one of their pipes which caused the smell. they decided to move us in the middle of the night on our 5th day to another room that was empty since the family that was suppose to be in there didn't board in the ship ( the other room was empty from day one, but they didn't buzzer to offer it to us from the first day). unfortunately this room only accommodate 3 people, and we're a family of 4, so their resolution is to add 2 mattress on top of each other to accommodate my 4th child. It wasn't safe for my child to sleep there, so he slept with us in our bed, but the front office staff had no other choice for us. ISSUE#2 We paid for 4 passenger in the room, 2 adults and 2 kids. As we get to our room, it has one queen bed and a twin that accommodate one child only. we were told the fourth bed suppose to be lowered down from the ceiling and it was not safe for my 6 year old to sleep in it. we booked the room to accommodate 4 people, but didn't provide the service we paid for. my other son had to sleep with us on our bed which was not comfortable at all. The kids club activity is very very boring and it's very well unorganized. it's mostly centered around 2-3 years old, my 6 year old was so bored in there as there was no activity for his age. This is supposed to be a brand new ship, but two of the elevators were out of service at least in two different occasion during our 7 night stay. This is most definitely not a kid friendly cruise. and also in my opinion not a family friendly either. They have a lot of issue among their customer service staff, their communication is horrible and so is their follow ups. they don't seem to know what they are doing at this ship. My family would never travel Princess cruise again! I had a much better experience at MSC Cruise. Read Less

We bought this cruise 15 mos ago while on another Princess Cruise. We were sold the Maiden Voyage on the new Princess Majestic. We were sold a 21 day Mediterranean Odyssey. Unfortunately, we were never informed that Princess moved up the sailing date and we were NOT on the maiden voyage, or that we were NOT on a 21 day cruise, but 3, 7-day cruises. And, believe me, there is a big difference. Additionally, there were no port talks or informational lectures. The person who was supposed to do them, could not. They apparently don't have a plan "B". They started the lecture series and port talks after we got off the ship which didn't do us any good. Many other well-traveled cruisers we spoke with were also disgusted with boring food, dirtiness of the cabins, poor entertainment, lack of lecture series and port talks. They plan on letting Princess know in their "after cruise comments". I'm sure you will be hearing from them, too. We expressed our shock in the "Bait and Switch" we were sold and the cruise we ended with. Customer service on board the Majestic referred us to Corporation. After over 20 cruises w/Princess, we felt we should have received compensation for our extreme disappointment and displeasure. We spent over $10,000. on the cruise. They offered us $250. per person credit on our next cruise w/Princess! What an insult! The Majestic Princess is for new, cruisers from Asia who don't know what real cruising is, not well-cruised (former) Princess customers. We cannot express how disappointed we are with their lack of concern for former loyal customers and their poor attempt and correcting their "Bait and Switch" on this cruise. Obviously, since we have been on many Oceania and Viking cruises, they will be our choices in the future. Read Less

This was not our first cruise; however, it was by far worse than we could have imagined. What was wrong? Cold food, lack of quality in the bedding, inconsiderate crew, and It just seemed like everything was filthy. We were always seeing crew members cleaning on prior Princess cruises. In contrast, we saw the same dirty spots remain from day to day on the Majestic Princess, whether it was on the floors, on a table, or on the walls. Plates in the buffet were never very clean, either. Princess lived off their reputation, rather than lived up to it with this ship. It was almost like they were short on entertainment, so they compensated by subjecting the entire ship to activities such as line-dancing lessons and a disc jockey in four-story atrium area. Overall, the cruise wasn't enjoyable, and we would rate it a "2" on a sale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the highest. Read Less

We have been on 66 different cruise ships. Most once, some twice and some three or more times. We realize all would not be as we expected, knowing it was still being finished as we sailed out of Trieste Italy, but expected, at least Princess, to be ready to be enjoyed. While the new ship smell was evident, that is about all we enjoyed. Our suite was very comfortable, as we were doing a back to back, we had to pack and more 5 doors down, so not that much a hassle. We found out Princess added this 1st 4 day cruise to coincide with their 50 year beginning. Pipes in different areas were not painted, and were already starting to rust. The food was lackluster, to say the least. Not much taste. Carnival has much better food. Pullmantur had better food. Princess could never compete with Royal Caribbean dining. Our specialty restaurant visit was to an authentic Chinese dining room. A 3 star chef menu items. We figured we would be able to taste real Chinese, instead of the buffets we have in the US. Our dining time was at 8pm. We were seated in a corner, all alone. 30 minutes later we received water. Food order was take, at 9pm we got salad and soup. 9:30pm, the entrée. I ordered a duck item. I received the lower half of the entire duck carcass, no meat, breasts, legs, etc. Just the carcass, hidden in a dark broth, with succotash. We left, did not eat, finish or try dessert. The manager came over, we told him we were not happy with the meal. He became very rude, said there were other restaurants we could have gone to. On the 2nd day on the cruise, the ship was christened with a death. A gentleman either jumped, fell, or lost his balance. He hit the forward starboard deck, and there was blood everywhere. The crew came out of nowhere and cleaned it up so fast, it was like they were all assembled there waiting. This is what we totally hated about this ship. While eating on the 1st cruise in the buffet, the food items were not labeled. One had to take soup out to see what it was, ask, etc. On more than one occasion, we saw Chinese guests take the ladle of salad dressings out, sniff, lick the side, then put it back in the container. I immediately told a worker, who shrugged and didn't do anything about it. I see a norovirus attack waiting to happen. I bought the drink package on the 2nd cruise. Although I only drank one drink a chocolate martini, mostly, every bar made it differently. And some even charged me differently, as a more expensive drink, on my bill. So another trip to customer service. In the dining room, we did anytime dining. We asked, on entrance, to share a table, as we wanted to meet others. They always told us it was quite slow, at 8-9pm. or 7pm, whenever we entered. We were always put at a table for 2 in a corner. We asked our cabin attendant for more bars of soap, after the only one we got was used up, and never received any, though I asked daily. I addressed our concerns with a member of management. I was thanked, yet nothing changed. Shows were ok, but not up to Royal Caribbean. Ports were mediocre. If you plan to go to Kotor, take your sim out of your phone. We spent 2 days there, didn't make 1 call, just taking photos. While quite nice, we were hit with an $800 roaming charge. In Greece, Italy, Spain and Holland it was $10 a day. Go figure. Read Less
