We were originally booked on a Panama and Alaska cruises but due to problems with visas had to cancel and re-book the Mediterranean. This caused a few problems with transferring of deposits which were originally refused but nicely resolved by Princess in Sydney (thanks). The ship was almost new. I think it had done 2 or 3 cruises before ours which we joined in Barcelona. Biggest criticism was the cruise was presented as a 28 day cruise but in fact was 4 x 7 day back-to-back cruises. Essentially it was like the movie 'Groundhog Day' with 4 balloon drops, 4 champagne waterfall, 4 captains circle functions and same food menus every 7 days, same shows, movies etc. - you get the picture. Thankfully only one muster drill. Food in the dining room was nice (but repetitive on a 7 day cycle). Wait staff were professional, engaged and generally excellent. Personally, I have never been a fan of buffets (on or off the water), so I can't say much more other than 'adequate'. Organisation of the stations and layout was somewhat confusing and always seemed to have at least one section closed/changing over. Dinner in the Crown Grill (a freebie from the travel agent) was nice but I do have an aversion to paying for 'specialty' restaurants on a ship. Balcony cabin on deck 15 was nice and fairly similar to others across most of the Princess fleet. Obviously new furniture, fittings etc. Everything worked OK for the full 28 days. Cabin steward mostly unseen who kept everything in tip-top shape. We ran into several staff/crew from previous Princess cruises who had been transferred to the new ship to assist a lot of 'newer' crew on the ship's (eventual) passage and home porting to Asia. It was nice to be recognised by crew from cruises 12-18 months previously. There were no port lectures (which we usually enjoy). Apparently they were due to start a couple of weeks after we were leaving the ship. As for entertainment, there really wasn't much of it and hope it was only a teething/new ship thing. The shows we did see were incredibly loud - almost painful. I suggest a set of travel ear plugs - they work wonders! The Vista lounge seemed a very wasted and mostly empty space. Full of mah-jong tables that seem to make seating difficult if/when something was on in the lounge. Not too many people seemed interested in the 'high-end' boutique stores. The bars they replaced were missed as it took away from the 'cruising' feel of the ship. We did a lot of ship shore tours. These are always expensive (not unique to the Majestic or Princess). Most were long days but enjoyable. Ports in Turkey were cancelled due to regional 'unrests' which led to multiple visits to the some ports and deletion of Malta, however we had plenty of notice (pre-cruise) and could organise accordingly. Embarkation and disembarkation were excellent with minimal waits. Overall, an average cruise which I hope will get better as teething problems are sorted. I will make sure about the 4x7 next time as it detracted from the overall experience Read Less

I have been on 25 plus cruises, however, this was my first experience with Princess. We booked this cruise strictly because of the ports. We arrived at the terminal in Barcelona at noon and we were on the ship less than 20 minutes later. Yeah that is great and all but they don't deal with credit cards or making any changes at the port; you have to stand in the TERRIBLY long line at Guest Services on the boat. By the way, you can't see a detailed list of charges on your TV or phone, you have to go down to the 5th floor UGH! No kiosks to make payments either. Really Princess? Unlike the other reviews, I thought the decor was nice. Simple and clean. My mom and I booked a mini suite but it looked like a normal balcony room with a large shower. Not a big difference at all. The walls were so thin that we could hear our neighbors cough and we could hear their entire conversation. Our cabin steward was great and I like how Princess cleans the room twice a day. I also disagree with most of the reviews, we had a great dining experience. The food was never cold and the service was great in the MDR. Princess offers one of the best buffets on any ship I have ever been on. HANDS DOWN! The casino is very small and they literally have less than 10 slot machine options. We found ourselves very bored after dinner so we spent most of our night in the casino. The entertainment is just not up to par. No deck party, no real club, Bingo is only once per sailing, etc. The karaoke room is not promoted at all. Whoever writes the Princess Patter should be fired, they don't list ANYTHING important. The Lotus Spa was well worth the money. I had a massage and 2 blowouts and it was reasonably priced with great service. Make sure you book your excursions ahead of time because the shore excursion desk is never open. I want that job for sure! I swear they are open 2 hours a day. The excursions were VERY EXPENSIVE but we felt safe being in a guided group tour. Their internet is a JOKE!!!! $60 for 100 minutes and I had to wait in line for over 2 hours total. Complete nightmare with 1 employee for 3,000 guests. Oh and the public restrooms were disgusting. I think they were cleaned once a day if that. Customer service is not Princess' thing, that is for sure. At times we even felt disrespected from the staff *cough cough Elena* I think that will be my first and last time with Princess. Read Less

We choose this cruise for the ports of call, which were all good. But the ship albeit shiny new and very clean was very disappointing the entertainment was very poor, only one show all week, pianist on several times a day, boring after the first time, string quartet good but again every day. Small band ok but bit past it, disc jockey playing music for young teens only, very little other entertainment. Bored and in cabin by ten every night. Staff polite but knowing they have no future on board were not particularly helpful happy or polite. Had to complain twice in restaurant as food was not cooked. Good food in help yourselves but cold by the time you got to your table..Bar prices were extremely expensive. No small token to say maiden voyage. We will definitely not cruise with princess again unless they can guarantee much better time. Would definitely like to hear what they have to say. Read Less

We hadn't taken a Princess cruise for a few years and were really excited to try a brand new ship. The Majestic is beautiful and sparkling without being gaudy. We knew that there might be problems to be worked out on a new ship, and there were. Some of the issues were really minor, others not so much. EMBARKATION AND DISEMBARKATION: Both were excellent - well organized and quick. PUBLIC ROOMS: The Internet Cafe and Library was a joke. Only 2 computers and about 12 ft. of book shelves that were half full. Seriously? Some of us don't have our media sources attached to our wrists at all times, and some of us still get pleasure from actually holding the printed word. The fitness center was large and extremely well equipped. There must have been 25 treadmills - more than I've ever seen in any gym! There was a separate weight room and a separate room for exercise classes. The center plaza was much larger than expected and had a raised platform for entertainers. This was the only place we found for dancing which was disappointing for us. No more Explorers Lounge or Wheelhouse, and the Vista Lounge was really set up for gambling. The 3 different dance lessons offered on this cruise were fun and Gary was an excellent teacher. The restrooms were really problematic on this cruise. Many of them had several non-functioning toilets. You'd think that something like sanitation would be one of the kinks they'd have worked out before ever launching. There was a venue called "Princess Live" which was a sort of theater where they held many of the onboard games. It would be a fine room for "The Newly Wed Game" or things of that nature, but it was impossible for any kind of team games because the chairs didn't move! There was no way to group around a table (there weren't any tables) or just put your heads together to come up with your answers because all of the seats were in rows! Basically this was a useless space, at least for the kinds of things they used it for on this cruise. The shopping area was very pretty with lots of upscale shops. I didn't see anyone in any of the shops ever, but maybe the Chinese market will appreciate this area. The theater was pretty with comfortable seats, and the entertainment was fine. We especially like the large production shows and this cruise offered just one. It was good, not great. CABINS AND BATHROOMS: The rooms didn't really look much different than any others. It was very subdued in color to the point of being bland. Our balcony cabin was average in size with 2 chairs and a small table. There were NO amenities in the bathroom other than a bar of soap! I asked for body lotion and it was then supplied. The shower might have been a tad bigger than other Princess ships we've been on. This is the first ship (and we've been on many different lines) where I could plug a nightlight in the bathroom. A small thing to be sure, but I really appreciated it. The bed was comfortable enough but nothing special in my opinion. I'm not sure what all the raves are about on the message boards. We still love the closet space on Princess and the way the closet hallway is shared by the bathroom rather than in the entry hallway to the room. The carpeting in the room was so new that it was full of lint. Our room steward vacuumed daily but by evening it was already starting to get linty again. But here's the real problem we had with the carpet . . . it was soaking wet outside the bathroom door!! Our room steward said something about the shower leaking in the room next door. He brought in a shop vac to remove the moisture, and then we had a giant blower in the room all day for the next 2 days. I guess that isn't nearly as bad as the people we met who had a toilet that only worked part of the time! The room fridge had an ice bucket in it . . . that's all! We're accustomed to having the fridge stocked with an assortment of beverages. The only beverage in the room was a large bottle of water with a hanging price tag. For a new ship, I was surprised at the crummy hair dryer they provided. It was already wired into a drawer in the vanity and was the type you might find in the cheapest hotel room. DINING: We really enjoyed the layout of the buffet - very different from the old Horizon Court which we don't like at all. There were two oval sections to the buffet with many of the same offerings, but if you really wanted a full picture you needed to go around both sections to find different dishes. In between them was the salad bar area. Unfortunately, there was very little selection of toppings for salads, especially in the protein category - no grilled chicken, no turkey or ham chunks, no tuna fish. There is a separate room for the bakery. If desserts are tempting for you, you might like the fact that you don't have to walk past all of the goodies when you're getting your meal. Instead of Purell dispensers at the buffet entrances, the Majestic has hand-washing stations supplied with 3 sinks. . . a nice idea but not very practical. I'm guessing that lots of people won't take the time to actually wash their hands and will just head for the buffet - yuck! We always opt for Anytime Dining because it gives us an opportunity to meet interesting people. That was really a challenge on this ship. At least half of the passengers were Chinese and traveling with big family groups, so there were only a limited number of English speaking passengers choosing to dine early. Just about every meal involved a lengthy wait for others to join our table, and usually when we had 6 people we'd just give up waiting and order. The very worst night was following the "loyalty" party with the captain. There were a lot of Platinum and above passengers on this cruise, so there were two timed parties Ours was at 7:00, so we headed to the dining room about 7:45. We were handed a beeper and told there would be a long wait. About 15 minutes later we found out it was going to be at least another hour! According to the Patter, one of the two fixed seating dining rooms opened for anytime dining at 8:00, so we headed up the stairs to eat there. The hostess said we needed to go to the other side of the dining room to be seated, and the gentleman on that side said he wasn't seating anyone and we needed to go back across the elevator bank to the side we started on! At this point the maitre 'd came along and whisked us to a table for 2. The Anytime Dining concept was not handled well at all on this cruise. We found the food to be uninspired and pretty mediocre. Most of the food was lacking in seasoning and was quite bland. In fact, the most memorable food I had on this cruise was a Cobb Salad at lunch in the main dining room. THE FRONT DESK: Oh boy . . . these people really need to get some training. The lines were always very long and slow moving, and the staff often couldn't answer fairly basic questions. And here's a news flash for those of you who sometimes don't spend all of your onboard credit. Some of your credit is non-refundable (like the credit you get from Princess for future bookings, promotions, etc.) and other credit that you get as a gift (like the kind many passengers get from their travel agencies) is refundable. Any unspent refundable credit used to go back on your credit card automatically at the end of the cruise. Now you have to wait 2-4 weeks and you'll get a check issued by some third party (not Princess). Watch your mail carefully so you don't think it's junk! EXCURSIONS: The only ship sponsored excursion we took was in Livorno. We've been to Florence twice before, so this time we decided to take the Cinque Terra excursion. Since it was a full day trip, we used the Princess excursion to make sure we got back to the ship in time. We'd put this excursion in the "just okay" category - not through any fault of the tour guides, but basically because we expected it to be much more picturesque than it was. For the amount of uphill and downhill walking we needed to do, the payoff should have been much better. This is NOTHNG like the Amalfi coast for beauty, quaintness, shopping, or anything else. Next time we're in Livorno we'll try something else. In summary, we had a good time in spite of the annoyances. We've never had a "perfect" cruise, but we always have fun, and this was no exception. We booked this cruise as seeing the ads for the new Majestic Princess it looked spectacular, and who wouldn't want to be one of the first to try it. For me it just didn't have any wow factor. The atrium was nice but that's it, no thinking this is fabulous. We like to spend our evenings having a few drinks in bars but there are only 3 on Majestic with very Iimited seating, this I was told was because the Chinese don't drink much Alcohol and as the Majestic is going to Shanghai soon it's set up for the Chinese market. The entertainment in the bars was very good but unless you got there very early you had to stand. The next big complaint was the food, it was just awful. It didn't matter where we ate it was Luke warm with no variety. Bland, cold food for 7 days was just awful. Again they have catered for the Asian market and not thought about the full price European guests. All in all a very disappointing cruise. Read Less

Wasn't overwhelmed to be honest. It was ok. Décor is very 1990s - dark and carpets are awful! Internet is a rip off .... and be careful to ensure that you log off completely if using the 80c per minute service on your phone. I had to report to the Internet Manager about this problem. A very grumpy individual and barely spoke a word to me. The gratuity of 13.50 daily really is too high. Staff were nice of course and they have a tough job to do. But nobody stood out as being amazing. The cabin was dusty from beginning to end. The beds were made everyday and towels changed, that's it. Don't buy the soda package. Bad value unless you drink at least 5 cokes per day. Diet drinks not included! Crazy! If you're a vegetarian, be prepared to live on lettuce and tomatoes. Sometimes they have a vegetarian dish but not tasty at all. I wouldn't go again. Read Less
