We chose this cruise solely to see what the Majestic Princess, was like. The itinerary did not have much bearing on our choice as we have been on many similar, over recent years. Follows are some of our observations and experience. Design: Majestic Princess is the 3rd of the new Royal Class ships that have been launched over the past five years. Despite what some may say, the Majestic was built by Fincantieri in Italy, yes to partly service a new China/Taiwan market but also spending 6 months in the South Pacific/Australia/NZ. Apart from the bilingual signage(like Diamond), maybe a small number of dedicated karaoke rooms, a few mahjong tables(actually a card table with drink holders in each corner)in the Hollywood Pool Club/ Conservatory, noting both karaoke and mahjong have been offered on most, if not all, Princess cruises we have travelled on in the past, there is very little to justify comments that it was “designed and built” for the Chinese market. The ship has a genuine International feel about it, not, as some say, designed for the Chinese market, implying a significant bias in design. It could be at home with a multitude of cultures, without imposing one over any other. Layout on World Fresh Marketplace Bistro/Buffet D16 Lido is poorly designed/planned and confusing to most. More on that later. The Vista “Gaming” lounge does not have the same flexibly/functionality in design/usage as in other ships for similar area. It doesn't have a bar, nor overhead monitors for relaying exercise/dance lessons. Apart from Bingo/Trivia/Zumba and Tai Chi, most activities are now staged in the Piazza. There were 4 table tennis enclosures on the starboard side of D17, which had been covered with shade cloth which, I image, was to reduce the effect of prevailing wind and turbulence caused by a moving ship on an open deck. The area was only to be used on the first few days for daily table tennis comp, which was moved indoors to the Hollywood conservatory where 2 tables were set up either side of the pool bar, which would resolve the wind problem, leaving the outdoor tables with little or no use. The lack of a proper Promenade Deck was a common complaint. Sitting on deck chairs under cover, exposed to the sea or walking around a deck on a cruise ship is one of those traditional activities most cruisers enjoy. You could partially walk around D7, squeezing past survival crafts or on D17 but not a complete circuit as some outdoor areas were assigned to smokers on D17 and on D7. There was no pool at the rear of the ship like on the Regal (sister ship) but in its place, according to the on the floor plan Deck 17 aft, immediately above the Wake View Bar, was shown as “outdoor exercise circuit/area” but surprise, was a large sundeck and undercover seating that had been assigned to smokers giving then a them a grand view aft. Didn’t get to use gym this cruise but it appeared to have a good range and plenty of equipment and not to be busy (maybe because of the passenger demographic) There were only two positives, the first and most beneficial was the new complementary, adults-only Hollywood Pool Club/Conservatory at the front of the ship on deck 17. It appeared to be a popular and relaxing venue, with a good indoor pool, adequate lounges and cabanas, plus some general areas for playing cards or just lounging around. It was like a “sanctuary” area but free of charge for all passengers. It was also open at night, for a late night swim or an uncrowded area to congregate, away from the noise of the Piazza. The second new feature that was very popular, was the laser shooting range, on the sport deck. On days when it was available, you had to book in the morning, as the time (late afternoon) and numbers were limited. This activity was popular with both men and women, testing their skills on a realistic (laser)shooting system. You could shoot simulations of tin cans, balloons, clay targets, to bird, deer and charging boars, giving a brief respite from the boring alternative activities on board. Accommodation: Cabin design/décor showed slight improvements whilst maintaining continuity in the Princess décor/style. Bedding was ok with multiple pillows but the pillows were far too soft (no support) resulting in sore neck. 2 pillows was an option, if you could contort them into a more supportive position. Entertainment: Only 3 evening and one afternoon (yes) production show on a 23 day cruise. Production shows may have displayed higher technical support but cast members were only average. We only saw one new production show, which we hadn’t already seen, so we tended to avoid the theatre, too help maintain our good health, on the cruise. In addition to production shows, single entertainers prevailed, most seen before, some we avoided but the violinist Katei and singer NZ Chris Powley NZ singer were consistently good again(after seeing many times before). There was the “Voice of The Ocean” concert, with performances by fellow passengers and an “International Crew Show”. Both shows were well received and probably would out rating some of the paid performers. The new 900 seat Princess Theatre for 3500 passengers was ridiculous. The theatre cannot accommodate the demand by passengers to attend. You either got there 30 - 45 mins prior to show if you wanted a reasonable seat or just to get in but they did provide a video link to Princess Live and Vista lounge venues, for what that was worth, for those who couldn't get a seat in the venue. Activities: With so many sea days and too few activities that you could actively participate in, other than Bingo, Trivia, Knitting, cards or just sitting around watching a handful passengers on the dance floor in the Piazza, there was very little else to do. The activities on this boat were geared toward the 70-90 age group. We were so bored, albeit saved by a reasonable selection of in cabin movies, like many others, were longing for the cruise to end. Internet Café/Library on D7: IT support staff on duty were very to helpful but someone forgot to update the floor plan to include the Internet Café on D5 in a converted Karaoke Room. I stumbled across by chance. Cabin Wifi reception was not great but much better in the Internet Café room on D5 where there were 8 workstation Desktop PCs plus one printer. One table and lounge, if you had your own laptop. Not well known as most of the time, the room was empty. The Library was a joke, with very limited shelving space and devoid of any books, for most of the cruise. Dining: Layout on World Fresh Marketplace Bistro/Buffet D16 Lido poorly planned and confusing. There was a “Bistro” serving area and “Bakery” then the Buffet, with two separate serving lines, with an interconnecting area between both, for standard self serve options but all serving areas had to be serviced by staff through one central staff entry/exit section, dividing the Bistro/Bakery and the Buffet areas. Staff would have to compete with patrons in negotiating the movement of some food items as well as used tableware. At times trolleys blocked or reduced through access in a common walkway to either area to access/ connect to a centralized internal galley operations area. Then there was the food, which to some, with simple tastes was ok, but not to others, serving up the same range of dishes every night, maybe with the odd variation. Some likened the quality of food as to what you’d find at mediocre club or shopping mall food hall at home. The menu items and quality (both traditional dining/buffet) were nothing like what we have experienced on previous Princess Cruises, where you generally had what was on offer, in the dining room plus a varied range of standard meats/ vegetables, pasta etc available in the buffet, along with an occasional themed night, German, Indian etc, with dishes to match. This was a common gripe, usually by seasoned Princess cruisers, whilst some did say it was ok, but recognized “they had very simple tastes”. We met a elderly, down to earth couple, who sat down with us, with a couple of slices of fresh crusty bread and butter (plus water), as that was all that appealed to them from what was on offer……….I could sympathise, as sometimes, my evening meal was a combination of fruit and a few scopes of ice-cream which was available from the dessert bar in the Bakery. There were some positives. Alfredo’s Pizzeria, did a roaring trade, maybe due to the poor offerings in the buffet or dining venues. It was also nice to see ice-cream back in the buffet, as it was dropped, on past cruises, in recent years. In addition, the Majestic did have new coffee ground brewing machines in the bistro, so at least, the coffee was more palatable than on previous cruises, not great but an improvement, but someone needs to taste and adjust the hot chocolate option, as it was terrible. Another source of concern was the unhygienic practice of some passengers who were admitted to the Market Place without washing their hands at the new hand washing stations. The vast majority of passengers did so but many were not stopped or requested by staff stationed to do so at the entrance, walking straight through, unchallenged. Dining service varied on this ship. In Traditional Dining rooms, you could not fault the service compared to World Fresh Marketplace Bistro/Buffet where wait staff/deck attendants appeared to be very indifferent to patrons, sometimes aimlessly wandering around, paying little attention to patrons, clearing or cleaning vacant tables. Requesting drinks was hit or miss, some would attend but disappear to return much later or to the wrong table. This indifference to service could also be seen in supervisory staff, who in general, paid little attention to patrons and issues (uncleared tables) and tended to chat amongst themselves without performing any real supervisory role. But in making such a generalisations, there were a few exceptions, where the individual staff members, did provide service in the Buffet/Bistro but again they were the exceptions, notably Andrea and Mario, both from Peru, plus Acacia from Brazil-Waiter-Pool Side always had a happy and welcoming greeting to all patrons and stood out against all others in their attitude and service, not only to us, but appeared to do so for all patrons they served. Service on our table in the Concerto Traditional dining room was exemplary with Nathanael(waiter from South Africa) and Ronald (Senior Waiter from the Philippines) displaying a positive attitude and fine service, not only to us, but to all patrons they served. Note: We did not use any of the specialty restaurants(so we won’t comment), as we had already paid for all inclusive meals in you fare. Maybe the general reduction in food standards might be intentional to encourage patronage of such venues. Embarkation and disembarkation: For us, it was extremely quick although some say it was a lengthy process. …..but I know embarkation did not go as advised. We were all told there was to be progressive embarkation, based on deck, at designated times and priority for some within those times. We were to board at 6pm. We were aimlessly killing time in the afternoon, planning to arrive at 5pm (1 hour before scheduled progressive check in time), so we thought we might wait at the terminal. On arrival at 3.30pm, large numbers were already waiting but as we had priority boarding, we were waved straight through, quickly through Princess check-in, then immigration, no problem. Question: What happened to progressive check-in. Did the majority ignore and turned up before 1pm, then the masses were partially cleared, and by the time we arrived, progressive check-in was scrapped ??? Overall: Come back new! I don’t think so, more like bored, dissatisfied and not very happy. If this is the new standard and direction of Princess Cruises is charting ……..I think there might be more than a few, abandoning this ship and cruise line, unless there is a change back to established standards of service and design. The decline in service and amenity standards is also reflected in the parent company’s stock performance over the last couple of years…..ie down the drain. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary and newness of the ship, we were a little concerned because of some of the feedback we had read was not all complimentary, however this Cruise surpassed our expectations in every way . Before the cruise We stayed a Radisson Blu new world which had a great central location near the people's square metro station, we got a 3 day pass which took us all around shanghai. The hotel had a shuttle to the cruise terminal Embarkation took about 1hr 40 minutes but we were seated inside and provided with refreshments Movies under the stars was a bonus and all staff we dealt with on the majestic princess were friendly welcoming and attentive We found anytime dining suited our needs best, never having to wait to long to be seated , we could choose to dine as a couple our share with others There was plenty of deck space and always loungers available and we could get away from the big screen noise if we wanted to . The entertainment was good and there was always plenty of seats at the second show Princess organised our entry visa for Vietnam which made things simpler In na trang we made our own arrangements with Jeep it Up , ex Vietnam jeeps driven around the sites of Na Trang which we thoroughly enjoyed. In Singapore and Busan we used the local metro which was easy and cheap In Saigon we did the princess excersion to Cu Chi tunnels it was very interesting and the 3 hour bus ride each way was on good sealed roads and took us through the chaotic Saigon traffic This was our first cruise with Princess and we would definitely sail with them again Read Less

This is currently, the newest ship Princess sails - big however does not mean better. Poor food that was at best warm, inattentive staff, boring activities and No Promenade Deck! Walking around a deck on board a cruise ship is one activity liked by many cruisers but not on this boat - there is nowhere to walk. We booked on this itinerary because friends asked us to go, they unfortunately had to pull out at last minute so we decided to go rather than loose cost of fare. With so many sea days and very few activities other than Bingo, Knitting, cards or just sitting around, we were counting down the days to get off. The ship outlay just doesn't flow well and deck 16 continually has water puddles making it dangerous for guests to navigate this deck to the Market Place. The Market place - though large in size, the food selections were awful, not nearly as nice as the food on the Sapphire or Emerald Princess. It was hard to get a coffee or juice - too many people - not enough staff. Had dinner at the Crown Grill one night and had planned to eat there on the four formal nights - after first experience - did not eat there again. Took ages to get served and then they rushed course after course in a hurry to get you out! Check in in Shanghai was a joke and getting off in Ports like Singapore or Vietnam meant you only ended up with a half day at most. The big shows were great and we enjoyed them very much, the other entertainers were fine as well. This boat seems geared for the Asian Market so it will be interesting to see what other Australians feel about it as it is here for an East Coast/New Zealand season. The Port lectures were so boring that we ended up just watching the bits we wanted on TV - this guy didn't have much information on the ports and his favourite saying was that he couldn't find any information on...... - wasn't it his job to find it out? We were so disappointed in this cruise that we have cancelled our Princess cruise for next year. I think, if you have a lot of sea days (13 out of 20 for this itinerary) then look for a boat that offers more on board activities. The activities on this boat are geared for the 70-90 age group. Have travelled on the Sapphire and Emerald Princess boats and enjoyed both of these cruises. The only good thing was that no tipping was applied to our room accounts however the alcohol and drinks were expensive on board. We were not big drinkers, did not gamble ahd only purchased 1 ship shore excursion and even with our $1250 free credit still had a shipboard account of over $900. Read Less

We joined the cruise at Shanghai after a week in China visiting Beijing, Xian and Shanghai .with Wendy Woo Tours who were excellent. Don't try to Facebook etc in China as its all blocked including Google although email works. The processing getting onto the ship was quick and efficient and the ship is magnificent, now where it gets interesting. The cruise is labelled 'East meets West' for a reason and embarking from Shanghai should give you a clue. Maybe 80% of the people were Chinese and from what I've been informed 800 children . People from different shore have different standards - lets leave it there! Formal wear for evening meal at restaurants was a joke where the any standard was acceptable (why have formal wear then)with whatever they wanted (Shorts,t Shirts , flip flops) , Americans, Aussies and Brits made the effort to dress correctly although after seeing what the standard was many of us, including me, dressed down to meet the downward standard. I thought the food was of a high standard. I only went to the Buffet at Breakfast and it was always busy and tables were at a premium so my wife and I eat breakfast by the pool where there was loads of empty seating. Food is catered to both Chinese and western tastes. Entertainment had be be revised to meet both spectrum's and I think it was a success although everything being said had to be repeated in English and Cantonese. The shows were excellent and should be commended. There where plenty of sun beds to be had although they were far less walking waiters on the decks because again Chinese not being drinkers. The cruise trips were excellent where the Chinese and non Chinese had separate trips and the guides knew their stuff. Japan was less compressed than China and I personally enjoyed the experience. The weather was stiffing with high humidity and the sweat was pouring off you just walking around on shore trips. Take an umbrella to protect you from the sun and a face cloth to wipe the sweat off you. Once again the cruise industry are not catering for vegetarians (my wife being one) and they need to get on board with this requirement. Too many chats with the Head Waiter were had. The cabin we had was excellent but all cabins on every ship are about the same. All in all a good cruise but people must be aware that this cruise is catered towards the Chinese. Read Less

People spitting on floor whilst sitting in spa, people spitting on carpet in marketplace buffet, people blowing snot from nose and spitting in hand basin that you are expected to wash hands in prior to entering food court, Casino door continually left open and smoke streaming out into main atrium, children allowed to run riot on dance floor after 10pm. Princess usually has dress standards for dining rooms. None applied on this cruise, you could wear singlet top basket ball shorts and slip on sandals, jeans T-shirt’s and you’d be allowed in. We ended up staying away from pool and spa as we couldn’t stomach the snorting and spitting, it made our stomach turn. We spent majority of time in our cabin watching movies. We ate in the dining rooms onboard 5 times and each time the food was luke warm/cold. The staff were doing the best they could with the circumstances they had to deal with. Marketplace Buffet had a huge variety of food choices but trying to get a seat after you had selected your food was a challenge. Some passengers refused to share tables and made it very had for the staff. The amount of food left on peoples plates was terrible to see. We were in cabin E416, our Steward Rommel was amazing, he actually made our cruise. Princess is very lucky to have him he went over and above in every aspect of looking after us. We had evening room service twice as we couldn't face the thought of the catastrophe that was the dining rooms. It was excellent, best meals on the ship. The coffee shop on level 5 was very good, the food was always hot and the staff were exceptional in their service and care. Come back new??? Not us we came back discussed, frustrated, angry, annoyed, disappointed, mortified and concerned, as we’d already booked and paid for cruise with Princess in December. Fingers crossed, with saying that we must say that in the many cruises we have done with Princess we have never had one complaint or issue, service standards have always been well beyond our expectations. . Our balcony cabin with of a sofabed on deck 15 in a nice quiet location which we choose diliberatly had been given to someone else. We only found this out onboard and not at checkin. We were given a mini suite instead but sadly the location was so bad we spent most of our cruise sleep deprived from the noise the crew made dragging tables and chairs around from midnight till 1am and then again at 4am. Complaints fell on deaf ears. Cabin wasn't ready, shelves were dirty, floor dirty, not enough toiletries for 3 in a room. We had to find our own luggage as it went to the wrong cabin. Buffet food - mostly Chinese food & same nearly every evening. Main dining rooms was pretty poor quality food so we choses not to dine there. Speciality restaurant: Harmony (Chinese) was average and not worth the extra cost. La Mer main menu not great but we ate Chef Darren Maclean's own menu 2 nights running and this was the only decent food onboard. staff took our drinks away whilst we had a photo with chef after the nine course & wine paring evening. pool deck Free ice-cream worst I've ever had. Buffet area has Plastic plates & bowls which is terrible. Buffet staff could not manage and tables sat dirty unless you asked staff to clean them. Gym area is poor, stretching area always used for seminars, Kareoke mostly Chinese songs. Ports: Shimizu isn't a great port but credit to the people of this small town who went out of their way to be helpful. Also Kochi isn't worth stopping at. Osaka should be an overnight stop there is so much to do and no time to do it. Took 3 excursions with Princess, they were good but expensive, I do question the time wasted on lunch which is included in the full day excursions. The ship is CROWDED. Everyone I met on the ship said it was ridiculous how many people are squeezed into rooms onboard. 6+ in small balcony rooms. Staff told us 4000 Chinese passengers were onboard when it should have been 3000. Apparently the ship just added more beds to cabins, shocking, is that allowed?. This is a cruise for the China Chinese only, it does not work for anyone else. The cultural differences will defiantly impact on you. Spitting in the pool, spitting on plates in buffet, shouting, pushing in, children in the adults only area throughout the whole cruise. I met several Chinese passengers from Singapore and Hong Kong who felt very uncomfortable with the behaviour of the majority passengers. There were 2 good shows at the theatre and thats about it. The language issues made most entertainment difficult. This cruise felt budget, unsafe, lawless and to be honest insulting. Disembarkation was chaotic, no crew around to help, passengers missed flights as they were unable to get off the ship in time, we just made it to the airport for our flight but we had to make a lot of noise to get off. Shameful. This is not how you say goodbye to customers, get some training. I do NOT recommend this cruise to customers outside of China. This cruises is totally aimed at China Chinese only. This cruise was certainly no Princess. Read Less

This was our 18th cruise, our 11th with Princess. We were very disappointed with the way Princess's service levels have fallen since our first trip with them in 2001. The crew were at best inattentive, and often just plain nasty. Our cabin had an inoperable balcony door, a broken safe, and what appeared to be semen stains on the sofa in our mini-suite when we got on board. During the week, several times we found dark black hairs in our sink and/or bathtub after the cabin was "cleaned" by our cabin steward, Rolando. My wife's hair is light blond, and mine is gray/white, so it sure wasn't ours! My wife has a severe seafood allergy, which we reported when we booked. When we got on board, we had a note to contact the Maitre-de to go over the allergy. We called, got no answer. In fact in the 8 days of our cruise, the only time we saw him was when he walked thru the dining room with his nose up in the air. We dealt with his assistant, for a few days, who then had HIS subordinate deal with us. This lack of continuity in dealing with what could be a life-threatening allergic reaction did nothing to instill confidence. My recommendation would be to definitely skip this cruise (Shangahi start/finish with 4 port stops in Japan). The Japanese port stops were great, but otherwise, this was a major and expensive disappointment. We intend not to sail with Princess again on ANY itinerary. There are too many better cruise lines out there. Read Less

5-day Keelung—Kagoshima—Busan: This was our 9th Princess cruise and our least satisfying. As stated in other reviews, the ship, food and on-board programming has been geared towards the Chinese market. While there is nothing wrong with that and while I applaud Princess for adapting to the sensitivities of its Asian market, what I don’t applaud is the total chaos that underscored the organization of this cruise. Two-hour check-ins, uncontained, unruly and loud behaviour in common areas, consistent slamming of state-room doors with yelling that could be heard through the walls, work-out and stretching rooms dominated by seminars during peak times, consistently huge line-ups at lunch and dinner, a 45-minute wait to retrieve our passport following the Japan leg of the trip, poor organization of excursions—in the case of the Japan one, we were asked to be in the theatre by 8:30 and didn’t hit the road until 10:20, total mayhem to re-board the ship. Ship staff yelled for everyone to get into single file but there were no defined walkways or roped off areas making it impossible for swarms of passengers to know where to go.The combination of large charter groups being led to and fro by barking tour guides coupled with defined times for dinner and excursions meant that congestion was inevitable. A number of ship personnel acknowledged that the system of multiple tour groups just didn’t work and they couldn’t wait until the cruise re-positioned itself in Australia. There was nothing relaxing about any of this cruise and the “escape completely” motto rang true only insofar as we wanted to escape the ongoing gong show. Read Less

This cruise experience was horrible. There are too many people and the food quality is bad. We went to a pay French restaurant for $35 per person for my family 15 pp. The food was bad, we booked it because of the Michelin one Star. If you do take this cruise, DO NOT go to any pay restaurants. The pizza bar is surprising good. The Gong Cha -Taiwanese famous bubble tea shop is horribly staffed and no skills......drinks are watery and waste of money. Ice cream bar tastes bad too, only ice, not milky. The international marketplace for buffet..the food was not good either. If it came out a good food, it will be gone in 5 mins. This is a charter cruise, so we are not in the tour group. So our dining is anytime and need to pre book ahead of time Going to the theater to watch the show is like going to a zoo. U need to line up one hour prior because it will be full in 5 mins except the first night, people did not know yet..... The stateroom is spacious with a decent bathroom - mini suite. I would book a small cruise and an America cruise route next time.... I tried Royal Caribbean Alaska route, it was much better. The shore execution time is very short....late embankment around 9am and need to be back by 4pm, not much can do/tour around since lunch will take 2 hours already. Read Less

I liked the look of the itinerary. However, there was no porter service at embarkation. The two Korean ports were a first for this ship, and nearly no one spoke English in the ports. All onboard activities, including entertainers and cruise activities were conducted in Chinese. And there were no onboard acknowledgments for Elite Captains Circle members. The ships signage is predominantly in Chinese, and the ships map we were given was also in Chinese. Of the 4,000 + passengers aboard, less than 200 spoke English. Service was an issue, as not enough of the staff spoke Chinese, so language barriers slowed service throughout the ship. The room are nice, and the stewards were helpful. But make no mistake...this a "charter" cruise. Princess was the operator, but not running the ship. All menus, tours, dining and entertainment are geared to Chinese tour guests. Most disappointed Princess Cruise after previous Sapphire, Royal, Regal and Diamond. We found the ship crowded with long queues, Bellinis and Vine became waiting area with tour guides and passengers, everyone rushing here and there, talking, burping and sneezing loudly. It was really chaotic and people took pictures everywhere including climbing up and down the equipment at the gym, and that there was this occasion where two ladies around their 60s and 80s were taking pictures in front of a backdrop and wouldn't stop posing and laughing until they lose balance and fell down with the backdrop and the Princess photographer was dumbfound. If you skipped the traditional and anytime dining queues, you'll also find long queue at the buffet lines strangely, we had to queue for buffet including waiting in front of sections that we were not picking up any food. Hand sanitizing was not policed after day two. Worse was World Marketplace buffet line was not open for the first (Nagasaki) and second (Yeosu) port day lunch, only the bistro was opened and at Yeosu, they had not enough food and we had long queue for nothing! Three pots of soup finished, empty sandwiches counter, and gone everything with the chef busy scolding and poor older cruisers who had problem walking, waiting, queuing, and surviving till their turn left with no food! Speaking of staffs, most of them were poorly trained, at times you feel like you're in Prison Break or Orange is the New Black, like our cabin steward, International Cafe, Alfredo, Crown Grill and LaMer, we had very bad experiences. But of course, not to mention some very nice staffs like Harmony, Internet service, Photography team, Spa, Gongcha and Noodle Station. The first day we entered our cabin, we already found bread crumbs on the floor. Hot water (shower)was gone on our floor 12 and the customer service had problems understand and paying attention to our call for help due to the same problem with many staffs on this ship, they assumed none can speak English so they were not paying attention to what you're saying! So we waited for 3-4 hours and called 5 times to highlight to them the problem, help only came after so many hours of wait. Same like the buffet staffs, if you say "May I have warm water please?" I got a reply "ah! Water! Hot or cold?". I interpret as "Ah!(you can speak English!" So "Hot or cold?(am not listening!!!)" And I replied "Just now I asked you-may I have warm water please" So after a few rounds of struggle, my friend suggested that I must do what they do, be rude and shout loudly what you want, for example "COKE! ONE!" And I learn not to be polite and speak in full sentences never mind they are from the Phillipines or wherever countries that should be familiar with English. The manager was most rude when we approached to make a reservation, he was speaking to his staffs and he gave us a hand gesture to wait and fiercely told us that he will be attending us in a bit. Dirty public toilets, smelly, clogged most of the time, soap finished. Shows at theatre were exactly like what other cruisers mentioned, they repeated the same shows. Well, no members lounge for disembarkation. And Keelung port was really bad and chaotic as well. So, no more Majestic for us, maybe will stop cruising with Princess for a while. Read Less

Princess Cruises has always been considered as a mid to upper class cruise company and our past experiences with them in North America certainly meet that standard. However, it’s not the same on their ships sailing from Taiwan!! My voyage with Majestic Princess from Taiwan this time confirmed that they must have either brought the worst dinning room wait staffs from other ships to be on this one or these people are just untrained. They were not only rude, but also unprofessional (from never smiles, to often forget our drink orders to only give one menu to the entire group of 4 people...etc). And the breakfast buffet had such limited choices of food that I thought I was on a commercial cargo ship. I had sailed with Princess Cruises from Taiwan in 2016 and had a very bad experience in their dinning room that prompted me to sent a written complaint to their executive office and I would think they would have made some improvements already, but I was disappointed again by their dinning room service this time. Princess Cruises needs to really step up to the game on their service on their Taiwan cruises or they will loose consumer confidence soon. Besides the dinning room bad experience, their photo booth staff were also unprofessional and careless. I had to repeat myself multiple times to multiple employees and even after I called to confirm my order, they still made the same mistake. Like the itinerary with lots of Sea days to rest and recharge. Also got to see Darwin Australia, Kaohsiung(Taiwan) besides the usual Sydney, Brisbane, Singapore, Phu My(Vietnam) and Hong Kong. Ship was big, and nice. Room was a mini suite(upgraded from a premium balcony), very comfortable, Excellent room service. Sea was calm until South China sea. Mostly Australian on the ship with lots of Asian from Australia. US pax are the minority. Lots of Fancy, high end stores, on board. Too expensive! Piazza was large, busy daily with all kinds of activities. Casino was fun on the Penny machines, not much table activities throughout the cruise(except for Black Jack Tournament), feel sorry for the casino attendants standing at their table side all morning, afternoon and waiting for table players to play! Love the Asian exercise equipment at the aft of the ship for stretching and muscle toning, very simple but effective! Read Less

Majestic Princess is one of the new ships that have been launched over the past five years. The newer ships are no where as good as the older ships. The design of the new ships has been at the expense of the customer. Getting more cabins means a number of features have been compromised. Ships like the Diamond had a beautiful promenade deck that went all around the vessel. The Majestic has lost this as they have placed the life boats on this deck. Very disappointing. There is no night club/disco on the Majestic so to bed early every night! The Conservatory had no booking system so passengers reserved them from early morning with towels and books and monopolised them all day. The tables in the Conservatory were used for Mah jong. A waste of valuable real estate with players not interested in the spectacular views. Crooners Piano Bar is in prime location on ships such as the Diamond. On the Majestic that prime location has been given to expensive shops (e.g. Cartier) which did not appear to ever have customers.The Majestic has it as a smaller room off to the side of the casino. And for some reasons the room is partitioned destroying much of the atmosphere. Entertainment was a joke! I believe there was about half the number of bands/performers compared to older ships. This is partially because there are not as many venues/bars. The Princess Theatre cannot accommodate the extra passengers they have on the ship so arriving half to one hour before the show was required to get a seat. People got used to bringing books to read during the long wait. This flaw is acknowledged by the ship as they play a video of the show in the Vista lounge for those who couldn't get a seat. The Vista lounge is much smaller than on other ships. It does not really have a dance floor and is not used as a music venue, more as a theatre style venue for trivia, movies etc. It doesn't have a bar. I have cruised 18 times and in the Elite loyalty programme. Daily Captain's lounge canapes in the older ships is in Skywalkers nightclub with magnificent views. On the Majestic it is in the Vista lounge with no views nor ambience. I went once on the Majestic but daily on the older ships. There is no pool at the rear of the boat. No Wake View bar. Outdoor movies under the stars is good but the sound, especially for music videos was far to quiet. A number of table tennis tables is very good but with no booking system they were monopolised a small group of enthusiastic players. Difficult to get a game. The noodle bar is a very good addition to the pool deck. Gym is very good. The beds and pillows are very good. Princess brochure shows the Majestic is one of the new ships that are configured for 3,560 guests. These include Regal, Royal and Sky. I will not be cruising on any of these ships. Princess has made a big mistake in configuring these ships to take more guests as the expense of their customers experience. As a loyal Princess cruiser of Elite status I am sad at the direction management is taking this cruise line. Read Less

Firstly my trip got off to a disappointing start. The airline lost my luggage which meant I was stuck in a sundress for 3 days until the next port. The staff in the shop were extremely unhelpful and rude. They had very few sizes on display and when I made inquiries basically waived their hands at unpacked cartons and said "we may or may not have something, you'll have to wait until we unpack". No offer to at least look in one or two boxes. When asked how long until they unpack, I was told 1 to 2 days!! Needless to say I brought nothing in the "fashion shop" this cruise. The staff at the services desk were more sympathetic and did at least arrange a toiletries bag and promised to chase up with the airlines to ensure a smooth delivery of my bag... This obviously didn't happen as I had a distressed courier call me at 745 am ( we were not allowed off ship until 0800) saying no one was there to sign for my case and so he would return it to his depo.. Long story short, no communication between Princess and Airline ( and Visa versa) but I eventually received my bag later that afternoon. Embarkation was very easy. Our mini suite was great, roomy enough for the four of us, though very hot overnight. And our room attendant lovely and attentive as usual The majestic is a large ship but most of the extra space seemed to be state rooms, with a feeling that there wasn't enough public space for all of the people. There no doubt is, a lot of it surrounding the piazza and in the hollywood club, but quiet space is limited. We are out doors types so like deck space. I personally never had an issue securing a deck chair, but I was happy to sit in the sun, shade was a scarce commodity and we saw a few people get narky over chairs. Inside there is heaps of space in the piazza, but there was always something on, so it was always noisy. There were hardliners who found the fewer quite spots near an Asian tea bar, and the Crowne bar but I hear you had to be early. The large Hollywood sanctuary area was always full to the brim. I only did a curious walk through once or twice, but it seemed just as noisy as elsewhere. There were a few spots on the deck near the ping pong but there was a curious stale smell that wafted around that area at times. I suspect it's near the rubbish disposal. Not having a deck to walk laps around was rather odd. You could do a shorter circuit on the 7th if you don't mind crossing through the ship either end. You could do a longer lap around deck above the pool (17) but it's cut short by the Hollywood club area and at the rear you have to go up, through the sports area down, across then back up through the sports area again... The gym was well equipped, cool and open 24/7. The sports area is very poorly designed. No net over the top, and some of the side netting had holes bug enough for balls to pass through. It is also necessary to pass through it to get to the golf area and wake Bar.This could be easily fixed by putting a net along the front of it, creating a walkway. There seemed to be quite a few frustrating dead ends on the ship. (seems I wasn't the only one who accidentally opened the dining room door setting off an alarm...ops..on deck 5 or was it 6, trying to find my way forward ) We also accidentally walked in on a massage one day whilst looking for karaoke, as it seems they were using the rooms labeled "karaoke" as extra spa area. They really should lock them...so check that they do before you get your gear off Entertainment wise this cruise was lacking compared to other cruise I've been on. The band Opus was great as was the lady signing in Crooners nightly but the show's were lacking. There were 3 production shows ( plus one encore involving dancers) in the 19 nights. I've had more on a 12 day cruise. The magician was okay, there was some impersonator, but anyone under 60 struggled to know who he was talking about (which I guess is fine on a cruise with an average age of 65) and a few other singers who were okay. Oh and some violinist, whom my son and I found hilariously over the top in his sparkly Jimmy choos and diamante eyelash extensions, but the lady throwing him kisses next to us obviously disagreed. Activity wise the program was pretty much the same daily with the usual zumba, trivia, ballroom dance, destination talks etc.. Not to mention all the promotional "raffles" and art auctions etc. We just ignored those. My mum went to a "sale" but the bags watches etc were even poorer quality( if that's possible) then past cruises. I saw one lady with her $15 bargain small travel bag and didn't have the heart to tell her I got my similar one at kmart for only $3. Then there was the occasional fun thing like the egg drop, ship making comp and pool games. I didn't mind the repetition as mostly I was happy to amuse myself. I did do some ballroom and Victor was a very entertaining teacher. I also did Zumba most mornings. My only gripe was the rude Trivia goers who couldn't wait to get a seat, even though there was a 40 minute gap between Zumba and Trivia. One thing that was strange was that a lot of activities such as line dancing, ball room etc were held in the piazza which meant that the learners always had an audience. This put some people off and meant that there was constant noise and traffic Kids activities were provided but seemed confined to the kids area. They advertised a basketball shoot off the second day on board which I thought might get my shy but sporty son involved. But we waited on the sports deck for half an hour with no show. Later when we went down to look at kids club and ask about it we were told because the forecast was for rain they had cancelled the basketball as it might be dangerous ( it never rained and they obviously hadn't even been up to check) This put my son off immediately. Hes not the crafty kind and that was mostly what their program listed. So he refused to go. He did find another like minded boy however and they amused themselves between the pool, table tennis and sports area..not to mention the ice-cream parlor and dessert lady who befriended them and always had their favorites on hand. There were about 50 kids on board, many who did enjoy kids club, it just didn't interest mine this time around. Dining wise, we did anytime dining and never waited. But personally I missed the friendship you gain from having a dining companion. As we were a group of 4 with a child they never put us on a shared table even though we would of happily shared. We usually ate at 6-630 or after the first show (which started 715). The food was okay. A lot of seafood which limited my mother who has a shellfish allergy. The buffet area was great for breakfast and lunch but we found at dinner time they compacted it to one or two sections with limited choice. The buffet was also very confusing with a lot of repetition yet some things only available in one spot. eg waffles ( my sons favorite) were only in 1 spot but pancakes, toast and cereal were in several spots. The cake/dessert selection was good but also very repetitive. Lots of continental cream cakes but same flavors daily, ditto for cookies. They did have a Crayfish seafood special on once or twice for dinner but it was poorly advertised so we missed it. My Dad loved the veggie burgers from the burger bar near the pool, and I was fond of the noodles. We didn't go to any of the specialty restaurants. There are a couple of tea, coffee water stations in the buffet and one out the back of the ship near the Wake bar, but it was hard to find water on the actual pool deck, and just as hard to find a waiter meaning lots of trips in a damp towel into the buffet to the disapproving looks,of some other cruisers, but it was very hot and humid...I needed water. This could easily be fixed by having water jugs near the ice-cream bar and towel bar. Overall we certainly enjoyed our cruise. With 12 sea days many might find it boring, but I loved the relaxation time. After the first few days people found their spot on the ship and it did begin to have that cruisey family feel whereby you seem to see the same faces most days. We spent 5 days in Hong Kong at the end and continuously ran into people we recognized from the ship. I'd certainly travel on the Majestic again, but admit it did lack some of the intimacy and atmosphere you experience on a smaller ship. One thing we did note was that being so big you barely felt the movement of the ship and as a result none of us suffered from sea legs post disembarkation. Read Less

We were excited to be sailing on the Majestic, given that she's the newest and biggest ship in the fleet. We'd only sailed on the Sea and Dawn Princesses before, and we enjoyed those, so we figured we'd love the Majestic. However, this ship missed the mark for us. We opted for Traditional Dining initially, but the Allegro Dining Room styling was quite dark, and had many areas sectioned off, so it felt a little claustrophobic. Our table was one of the many that had a bench seat, with access on only one side, so one diner would have to slide across the seat. Not a fun prospect in formal attire! And given that Allegro was on deck 6, but could only be accessed from deck 7, we quickly switched to Any-time Dining. The theatre, although quite high tech, was nowhere near big enough, only holding 1000 people on a ship of 3500. That meant if you wanted to see the show, you had to be there AT LEAST half an hour early to have any hope of getting a seat. And if you wanted a seat in the middle section, you were looking at being forty five minutes early, minimum. We usually like to attend the ballroom and line dancing classes. However, on Majestic, these are held in the Pizza, and I certainly didn't want to be on display while I fought with my two left feet! There didn't appear to be a decent dance floor anywhere on the ship. Princess Live was one option, but wasn't utilised, as was the Vista Lounge. However, neither venues were really suitable. Pool deck was also a little disappointing. A lot of pool space is lost to the fountains, which although lovely, were only used four times on a 20 day cruise. When the band played out on deck, they were incredibly loud - to the point where you had to move if you wanted to have a conversation. The Hollywood Conservatory is, to our mind, a bit of a waste of space. I can imagine that the Chinese market like it, but to us it was a bit of a waste of space. The Hollywood Pool wasn't bad, although the smell of chlorine smacked you in the face every time you walked in there. A common comment among the people we met was that the gym was woefully inadequate. I didn't experience this myself, but hubby did, and he said there were waaaaay too many treadmills and bikes, and not enough of the weights machines to go around. There was a lot of waiting for those to be free. Now for the good stuff. Our balcony cabin was lovely, and our bed and pillows were very, very comfy. The best we've had on a ship. For the first time on a cruise, there was an abundance of deck chairs - we never had a problem finding somewhere to lie in the sun. The World Marketplace, although a little confusing at first, is actually the best buffet we've had on a ship. Because of the multiple lines, we never had to wait, and not once did we have trouble finding a seat. Would we go on Majestic again? Probably not (although I never say never!). It's a little bigger than we like, and it feels a bit like a live sheep carrier - they've crammed as many guests in as possible, sacrificing some of the common areas in the process. I'd be interested to try another ship of the same class to see if it's the ship, or the target market that is the problem. Read Less

This was my second repositioning cruise on the Majestc. The first one was from Shanghai to Sydney in Aug/Sep 2018. Cabin: On this current occasion I traveled with friends (a couple). We had adjacent balcony cabins on deck 14. We chose this cruise because we wanted a cruise that terminated in Hong Kong. My cabin was comfortable except for the very soft pillows that Princess now has. Also, there was a strong smell of stale urine in the bathroom. This was also the case on the earlier cruise when I had an inside cabin. Despite several attempts on both occasions by the cabin stewards to remove the smell, it lingered. Dining: The food overall was very good. We had anytime dining, and ate in the dining room sometimes. We also ate at the International Marketplace, Harmony Restaurant, Crown Grill, Alfredo's, La Mer, and the Noodle Bar, and we did the Chef's Table dining. I thought the Crown Grill on this ship was the best of any ship. The food was excellent and cooked to perfection. I didn't care for the food in the Harmony Restaurant. One of the dishes was very nice but the others were rather bland. La Mer was OK. We ate at Alfredo's quite a few times. Like the food there. Had quite a few lunches at the Noodle Bar. The Chef's Table was not as good as some I've had in the past; more emphasis on presentation rather than flavour. And the food in both the dining rooms and the International Marketplace was pretty good. Ship: I don't particularly like its design which I understand was tailored to the Chinese market. The ship lacks the bar/lounge areas which Australians, including me, seem to like, such as Wheelhouse, Explorers, Skywalkers and Crooners. There was a Crooners on the Majestic but it was the casino's high rollers room converted. Not a crowd-friendly space and tucked away in a corner next to the casino. This was also the nightclub but it didn't really work as that either. The ship has a space called Princess Live on Deck 7 midship. It's like a small theatre. It doesn't really work well for most of the events that it's used for. The seating is quite uncomfortable; there is no bar and wait staff from the nearest bar up the passage have difficulty taking orders and delivering drinks. Apart from a bench across the back of the room, there are no tables so activities like trivia and bingo are difficult there. Also, the Promenade deck walking area does not go right around the ship. It does run up both sides of the ship but it's very narrow in parts and walking is very difficult if there's anyone else in the area. The Princess Theatre has 800 seats for 3500 passengers. This meant that you'd need to get there more than half an hour before a show to have any chance of getting a seat. Most of the activities were held in the Piazza as there was really nowhere much else to have them. A couple of times when we were dining at Alfredo's (on Deck 6 in the Piazza), the music in the Piazza was so loud that we couldn't have a conversation. The Majestic has an adults area on Deck 17 called the Hollywood Observatory. It's an indoor area that has a good sized pool, a bar, lots of lounges and other seating, include cabanas which can be closed off for privacy. A lovely area except for two things - some recorded birdsong which is really unnecessary and gets on your nerves after a while; and the fact that the whole area is air conditioned. That's OK if you've gone there just to read or play games, etc, but it makes it very cold when you come out of the pool! Entertainment: The entertainment was very good overall. Some excellent performers, and the production shows were great. Lots of activities. We never had trouble finding something enjoyable to do. Service: The service on the ship, as always, was excellent, although I noticed that there seemed to be less wait staff than usual in some areas. This meant that there were sometimes delays in getting vacated tables cleared, or getting a drink. This was my fourth cruise with Captain Dino Sagani at the helm. While his daily noon navigation reports were always informative, I've never seen him or his officers out and about the ship other than at official functions. Ports: While the number of ports was small (only 6 including Hong Kong), there was plenty to do at each. I found the destination presentation for Kaohsiung to be very helpful in getting a feel for the logistics of the place. The only Princess shore excursion I did was to Long Tan and Nui Dat in Vietnam. So much Australian military history in that part of the world. We were privileged to participate in a short memorial service while at the Long Tan Memorial. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. Would I go again on the Majestic? Probably not. I don't care for that class of ship. I much prefer the Grand or Gem class. Read Less

We’ve done a few cruises with other liners and they were so much better than the Princess if you are between 70 - 90 yrs old, then this slow paced ship is designed for you it was boring. The same program almost every day. The constant pushing and harassment to get you to buy on board all the very overpriced things suggesting markdowns, discounts, buy buy buy! The staff are friendly enough, it’s not their fault, it’s the sales pitch their forced to do. Raffles to win was one way to get you in. There were many ‘evemts’ Daily, enticed to get you to buy more! This never happened on the other cruises. The food was also boring. No variety. I’ve been on a few cruises and this one has to be the worst when it comes to selection or choices. If you want lactose free milk, you had to ask for it especially. It was never an option next to the breakfasts where it should be. There were no lactose free cheese, yoghurt or ice cream. Yeti when we booked we were given the option to select food requirements and this was suggested that it was already a part of their every day food choices! I received an email stating that lactose free will be available. For gluten free needs, there was one little section with the same food in it daily! I’m not gluten free but would hate to be as 8 know someone with coeliacs disease and she gets very sick if she eats gluten! So having such very little food options would be a dreadfully long cruise with the boring selections! It reawas very disappointing. I’m never a complainer with anything and will always make do with what we have but this really needed to be mentioned! The movies by the stars, was a huge screen at the end of an open deck pool area. So you can imagine how noisy it was! You couldn’t watch a movie at all during the day as you couldn’t hear it, it was just noise in the background over people talking loudly or kids in the pool. The evening movies were better but you had to fight to get a good spot to see it clearly as most of the deck chairs were on the level of the pool and they had this fountain in the middle (which was never used except for special events!) and you had to battle to see through rails, bars, decorative trees and so on. So it was really poorly designed to see around it. The best seats were near the smokers deck and we had to put up with inhaling their second hand smoke or sit somewhere we couldn’t see the screen well! The theatre where we had most of the main entrainment held, was badly designed. If weren’t lined up an hour early, you were either unlucky to get a seat at all, or got one of the crappy seats on the front several rows to either side which you couldn’t see the show anyway! That’s when the seats were not broken! For a new ship, I really felt there was so much poor design of the layout. Other than all of this, I did find that most of the staff were wonderful! Read Less

Prior to the cruise we spent 4 days in Singapore at the Swissotel The Stamford, and 5 days at the Holiday Inn Old Sydney, Post cruise we stayed 3 days in Hong Kong at the Salisbury YMCA Hong Kong. The reviews of our pre/post cruise stays, along with our experiences flying on Singapore Airlines are being posted on other sites. We are happy to answer questions about the hotels and our activities before & after the cruise. We especially enjoyed the view from the Harbor View Suite at the Salisbury. We had to book a year in advance to obtain that room/view Embarkation to the ship was smooth. We had priority boarding and were able to access our cabin immediately. The Majestic Princess is a very pretty ship. Being so new it was very clean & well maintained. We enjoyed the decor and the numerous dining options. The downsides of the ship have already been mentioned by other cruisers: lack of a promenade, Piazza too small for activities presented, and theater seating being uncomfortable for anyone above average height. Our cabin was a Penthouse Suite (R730) with a wrap balcony. We have posted a video of the cabin and balcony on the cruise critic Princess board. The cabin was lovely, with tasteful decor & plenty of storage. There was soot on the balcony and it varied daily. Our room steward wiped down both the deck furniture and the deck itself daily. We chose this cabin due to the extra large uncovered balcony and its proximity to the VIP lounge. We ended up using the VIP lounge several times a day for snacks, coffee and to seek assistance from the concierge stationed there at posted hours. Dining is subjective but this ship offered enough options to always enable us to find something we liked. We tried all the dining options with the exception of eating lobster on deck. The Chopsticks Noodle Bar was a disappointment with limited options. We enjoyed the Crown Grill for both breakfast & dinner. We also had a good experience at La Mer and with the Ultimate Balcony Dinner. We weren't as fond of the Crab Shack or the menu at Harmony. The World Fresh Marketplace was set up by stations, which did not move. It was easy to find things once you learned where the stations are. There was enough variety of items offered and the quality at the buffet was better than previous cruises. It was not much different than the quality of the food in the dining rooms. This is the first cruise where we saw more people eating at the buffet than in the dining room. Entertainment and activities on the ship were mediocre. The cruise director and staff were lackluster, at best. It seemed their answer to entertaining a large group at a disco party was to just have everyone line dance. The singers performing for Fantastic Journey did a good job lip syncing but the production theme was disjointed & the use of drones was minimal. The lead singer for the band, Opus sounded like he had never rehearsed with the band prior to the cruise. The singer at Crooner's piano bar was also mediocre and the setting uninviting. Fortunately, some good movies were offered on MUTS. Service on board was outstanding. With the exception of one grumpy bartender at the Sea view bar, all the staff encountered were cheerful and helpful. They were always around, cleaning, assisting passengers and ensuring guests washed their hands at the buffet. Some of the ports were a disappointment, but it is not the cruise line's fault. We chose ship's tours due to the distance from the port to some of the places we wanted to see. We were also worried about language barriers. Princess does a good job of describing the shore excursions and specifically noting the time the shore excursions leave and the activity level required to participate. Unfortunately, some passengers came late, returned late after free time and did not take note of the walking/steps listed in the shore excursion descriptions. This ended up impacting the tours. The tours left late and some sights were cut short to make up time. Next cruise we will go back to organizing our own shore trips. All in all, we enjoyed the cruise and all the sea days. We might not pick Majestic Princess for another cruise, but will certainly book with Princess again. We will try and book a ship that has an Enclave like Majestic Princess since this was our favorite location on the ship. Read Less

Stayed few nights in Sydney pre cruise. Enjoyed as had previously visited and knew what we wanted to see, Embarkation swift..good to be able to drop cases early . Were told we couldn't send cases of water through but could only carry them on ourselves, Useful but expensive shuttle at Brisbane. Again we knew what we wanted to do once we were in town. Darwin quite disappointing..had visited previously. Felt ship could have offered complimentary shuttle into town. Wanted to visit Vietnam. Hadn't researched carefully enough and needed to book tour from Phu My 90 mins on excursion coach to Ho Chi Minh City. Very nice when got there but could have done with longer time in city but ship was leaving early. Disappointed in Kaosiung..again docked a long way from town in Commercial area.Paid for princess shuttle to downtown. Left at 8.30 am, arrived by 9 am but nothing opened till 11am. Again disappointed by short time in port. Did disembarkation tour in Hong Kong as had flight to Dubai that evening. Useful to be able to store luggage on coach until dropped off at airport....shame this tour wasn't advertised earlier. Again felt it was expensive, too much time at nunnery and insufficient time for lunch/ shopping (less than 90 mins). Arrived at airport after 4.5 hours when tour advertised as 5 hours. Felt overall planning of port visits not good. Timing needs to be looked at, so does docking so far away from downtown areas ! Balcony cabin was fine, balcony smaller than some ships we have been on, Steward was excellent, Didn't miss club chair which had been removed. Food in Dining Room very slow to come out one night..nothing to write home about. Buffet okay but difficult to find way around, Good service for drinks both on deck and in lounges. Not keen on shows but heard they were not that good and some complained they were unable to find seats but had heard others saw same show in each of the three sittings ! Ship large, disappointed no proper 'promenade' deck Always found sun loungers but we are early birds.. Didn't like cruise director making announcements 15 mins after MUTS had started. Surely he realises he is interrupting film ?? He stopped for a few days after someone sent a note to his Wake show but started again later in the cruise. Not keen on Piazza being so busy..used for too many activities..no peace and quiet ! Read Less

After cruising for many years with Princess my partner and I were disappointed with the lay out of this ship, their seemed to be not enough staff for the amount of passengers on board, most places we visited on board did not have enough seating, the ship was designed the Chinees market and it shows with the conversions of the public such as the vista lounge once part of the casino and another now bar also was the high rollers as you will see by the amount of surveillance cameras in the rooms, far to much Chinees writing hard to know were you are in the lift with the English/Chinese writing, we had the opportunity to have dinner in the French restaurant the food and service was good, the location of this restaurant was not good in a walk way I sat looking at a till, was told they were booked out so had to eat at 18:30! this was not the case only two couples in when we arrived, the walk way running along side was very busy and noisy, would not recommend this ship. Would not recommend this ship.The mother in laws first cruise and as her complaints were not dealt with made for a very unhappy and grumpy family as we had to put up with the lack of sleep causing being to tired for certain family members of family unable to take part in ship activities.The constant harassment of the photographers is very frustrating and annoying.I feel the princess line has to look at trying to change things.Most multiple cruise passengers are not interested in the continuous art sales.Having to wait 15 to 20 minutes to be served is not acceptable to wait for drink.This I feel was due to staff shortages.The restaurant staff in the set dining were fantastic,the only complaint was that as my wife doesn't eat seafood was very restricted on choices.The staff were most helpfull in the area.I am not sure wether these issues were due to the cruise being a repositioning cruise.The shore excursions seem to be expensive as when ashore you can get way better deals.Was amazed at Hong Kong to find princess charging 20 dollars per head for a free curtesy bus.In Taiwan bused to a shopping centre at 9 am to find out nothing opened till 11 am.The whole experience needs to be ,in my opinion,revamped and not feel like buttlins at sea.It seems to be the same ol same ol. Excellent value for a suite - liked the itinerary - wanted to experience a new ship. Good overall but we did not like the mattress in the suite. I suspect it is rubber based as it always seemed to be hot. Club class dining is excellent with no waiting during anytime dining. Enrichment Lectures were lacking. Only one American based speaker (most of the PAX were Australian) and he joined part way through the cruise. No others. Captain Dino's announcements were all good but interaction with officers was non-existent - unfortunate - it happens sometimes. Had a look at pricing on a similar cruise (SYD-SIN) next year and note the price has doubled for the same number of days, compared with what we paid. At this price we will probably pass for that itinerary. We enjoyed the cruise and it was great value, an excellent ship. We will sail on her again. Read Less

We chose the Majestic Princess mainly as she was going to Hong Kong. She is a lovely ship with a great crew and has a nice feel about her and we really liked our cabin which was very nice. Entertainment was very disappointing, the cruise director Andrew promised a performance from The Australian Beatles on 2 occasions which never eventuated and no explanation of why. The entertainment overall is nothing to write home about as is the daily activities, however I think this has become the norm for a lot of ships. Cocktails are expensive which we actually do expect, however when you are paying top dollar for a cocktail you expect them to be good, the recipes used ie 'The Princess Cocktail Recipe' do not have a lot of resemblance of how they should be made, I'm not sure who came up with the recipes but I think they need to 'google' how they should be made. Overall the food was disappointing. The staff were friendly and helpful, they went out of their way to please, they were wonderful. Having done a number of cruises on Princess and in the past thought very highly however we have been very disillusioned with our last couple of cruises with them. I think somewhere along the line they have lost the quality they once had mainly in the areas of entertainment and food. Read Less

First impression entering the Piazza, was wow. Very impressive. But the biggest thing that lets it down is the layout. The Market place is so confusing, it’s set out in 2 sections a bistro and buffet. To get your food you have to negotiate .different areas. For example I wanted toasted Banana bread, I went to the counter with the Banana bread, then had to take it to another area to get it toasted then again to get butter. The Market place seating is divided by many screens, it feels a bit closed in. The Princess theatre is a good size but entering and exiting is a problem as the aisles are one person wide, which causes big problems with everyone trying to leave. The future cruise desk and captains circle club are in the same very small room, with only one staff member looking after each area. Causes major cuing. For a ship with 3500 passengers you would think they would have more room and more staff to handle the volume. Our cabin was excellent, we had a Club class mini suite, very big, plenty of room to sit, or eat a meal, very good and big balcony with table chairs and sun lounges. Embarkation and disembarkation was very good, very well organised. The entertainment was good with the imported artist, but the Princess entertainment was the same as any other ship. If you been on a few Princess cruises no need to go and see them. The crew where mainly very good, but there was a lot of Chinese crew that did not seem to want to serve anyone except Chinese passengers. I asked to use the Karaoke room and was told it was only for the Asian cruise, by one Chinese crew member, then told to go and see, the Internet cafe person, then told to see Customer services, who are the ones I saw first so I didn’t bother. I would not go on the Majestic Princess if there was an alternative ship. Read Less
