My family and I went for the first time on a cruise. We didn’t really know what to expect, but we have heard it’s a lot of fun!! So this is how we decided to spend my mom’s birthday. We booked a cruise with Carnival Imagination! It was what we had expected and much more!! My family and I had a wonderful time! We felt welcomed from the first step we took on the ship. The entertainment program and the crew was fantastic! The cruise Director, Benjamin, (which by the way I will miss waking up to his “Gooood morning, ladies and gentlemen”) and Jackie were great! We enjoyed the shows throughout the day, as well as the evening program. So many things to do!! The dancing and singing was amazing, I truly felt like I was watching a show in Vegas. The entire crew had so much energy, enthusiasm, and happiness like it was the first time performing the show!! I do remember Ryan’s name because he celebrated his birthday the same day as my mom’s, but the entire crew was awesome!! The comedy show with Benjamin, Geoff and Michael was great!! We laughed so hard!! The host, CJ was very funny too!! The food and desserts on the buffet were very good, many different options to choose from. We were assigned to the Pride restaurant for dinner, where we had the great pleasure to meet Srdan. He was our waiter the first evening. He was very professional and also pleasant to talk to. Although we didn’t get served by him again throughout our cruise, he made sure he came to say hi every time he saw us dine. He went out of his way one morning, making us two lattes, when we asked for regular coffee, even though it wasn’t his section to cover. I also remember Dwi, Rody, and Wahyudi, our service team the second evening. The hostesses, Dragana and Martina were extremely nice too. Although they were there morning and evening, every day, working lots of hours a day, they were always welcoming us with a smile on their face. Viktor, our housekeeping member, was awesome too! Always making conversation with us, asking us how our day went, or what are our plans for the day. Every evening we came back to a clean and organized room, with cool towel faces welcoming us “home”! We know how many hours you guys work every day and my family and I would like to Thank Carnival Imagination and the entire crew for keeping us safe, your hard work and dedication, for offering us a wonderful vacation and making us feel special every day! See you soon!!! Read Less

My husband and I wanted to go on a cruise to celebrate our 20th anniversary. We choose this cruise because it was closest to where we live and the date worked perfectly for us with our kids getting out of school for the summer. We completely loved the cruise! We got an inside room because I heard that you can feel the motion of the ship more in outside rooms. I was prepared for our room to be tiny, but it wasn't as small as I expected, which was great. With the closets and the desk drawers we had plenty of room this our things. Embarkation and debarkation were quick and easy. The food was great, especially in the dining room. The service in the dining room was excellent, and we loved the little shows that the waiters did at dinner. Our cabin stewardess was really nice and helpful, she fulfilled all of our requests and kept our cabin really clean. The selection of excursions was great. We went snorkeling at Catalina island and we went on a tour to La Bufadora while we were in Ensenada. We had a great time in both Ports. The day at Sea was fun, too, there were plenty of shows and games going on to keep us entertained. Benjamin, our cruise director, was really awesome and kept the fun going. The sea day brunch in the dining room was so amazing! Going on this cruise has wet my appetite for them! I would happily choose this particular cruise again. Read Less

People don't seem to review the shorter cruises out of Long Beach, so I wanted to write one for last week. This was our third Imagination cruise from Long Beach, and it was great! Pre-cruise: Got to Long Beach the day before the cruise, and spent the day at Cabrillo Beach (San Pedro) relaxing in the sun. Stayed at the Golden Sails in Long Beach, which was a fine hotel 20 minutes from port. On Sunday morning, we left the hotel at 10:20, with zero traffic, we were parked in the garage at 10:45. Embarkation: This is the easiest embarkation port of the many we have used. We were completely checked in and waiting to board before 11 am. FttF was called at 11:11 (good luck!!) and we were boarded very quickly. Straight to our stateroom (E90 - right off the atrium) to drop bags, and we were at Guy's Burgers before 11:30. Stateroom: Excellent choice (E 90) for access to everything. No problems with noise, smell or stateroom steward. Received twice-daily cleaning as requested. Room was in excellent shape, with comfy bedding and everything in working order. Dining: Had Anytime dining, which worked great. Ate all breakfasts in the MDR, and avoided the buffet completely. Lunch was Guys, Blue Iguana or Deli. Sea day brunch was awesome as ever---steak and eggs was great. All dinners were good, with many choices, and we ordered double appetizers or entrees more than once. Brought case of Coke Zero and two wine bottles in carryon, so we brought our own glasses to dinner each night. Worked beautifully. Day one: Bags were delivered before 12:30, so we were quickly unpacked, and headed to an empty Serenity deck. Relaxed until muster drill, then off to get dressed for dinner. Yes, we dress for dinner each night. Not over the top, but I wore a dress, and my husband wore button up shirt and slacks each night. Comedians were okay this trip, and we enjoyed family and adult shows most days. Did a little dancing in the nightclub. Funniest thing was "80's hour", which was from 10 to 10:15 pm one night! Dance floor was packed for those fifteen minutes!!! Day two - Catalina: Breakfast in the MDR, then ready to tender to Catalina. Expected a crowd, but easily caught a tender with no wait. Didn't even use FttF tendering. Rented a golf cart for about 90 minutes for a nice tour. Walked around a bit peeking into shops for a little while. After that, we lounged on the beach by the dock for a few hours before returning to the ship for a late lunch. Short but fun day. Day three - Ensenada: This was a weird day. We had breakfast in the MDR again, and got off the ship easily at approximately 10:30. Nice walk into town along the new Malecon. The streets, stores, bars, restaurants were EMPTY. It was amazing how few people we saw in Ensenada. Nothing like our past visits. We walked along the main street looking in a few stores. Had a quick (unsatisfying) lunch at a street restaurant, then hit our favorite Ensenada store that sells stained glass, and headed back to the ship. In the two years since we've been there, prices across the board in Ensenada have skyrocketed. Maybe that's why it was dead. Returned to the ship for Serenity deck and relaxation around 2:30. Day four: Day at sea started with sea day brunch, and consisted mostly of the Serenity deck! We went on this trip to relax, and relax we did! Got front row in Serenity, but it was packed by 10:30 that morning - don't dawdle! Disembarkation: So quick and easy! They started self-assist at 7 am. Started calling zones at 8:45, and did a last call for everyone to disembark by 9:05!!! Short wait for customs, and we were back in the car by 10 am. Overall: An excellent cruise for first-timers looking to try cruising, or for seasoned cruisers looking for a relaxing few days. We don't gamble on ships, and didn't drink too much. The ship was oddly empty for the most part (considering this was Holy Week/Spring Break). Never a wait at a bar, easy to get chairs on Lido and Serenity, no long lines at lunch locations. It was downright weird!!! For the price, it is an excellent value cruising experience, and keeps us satisfied between longer cruises. Next up for us a the Legend Transatlantic 2020! Read Less

For our first cruise my wife and I were a little scared to do a long cruise. What if one of us gets sea sick easily, or can't stand being cramped in a cabin, or we get bored. So to play it safe we chose one of the shortest cruises we can find. Being in SoCal we are also lucky that Long Beach is a short drive away. In any case we chose one of the 3 Day Baja Mexico cruises - known for college kids wanting to get drunk in Mexico. I guess if we had a choice between a ship full of college kids or a ship full of retirees we'd rather have the college kids anyways. Turns out the ship had a good mix of people with families, college kids, older people, etc. Probably on the younger side I would say judging from some videos I saw of the recent cruise in Norway that got disabled and passengers had to be rescued with helicopters off the ship. In any case I didn't want to get a cabin with an ocean view or a balcony on this first cruise. We had to make it the worst possible cabin to see if we could survive. And definitely no problems having an interior. We didn't miss not having a window to the outside world at all. We basically used the room for sleeping in and getting changed for the day, that was it. We hung out on the ship most of the day, either watching shows, playing games, doing auctions, sitting on the decks outside, etc. We had plenty of activities to do on our short 3 night cruise. Our cabin was on Main Deck, which is Deck 5, two decks below the boarding deck Empress. We were mid / aft which was good because the dining areas were right above us two floors. Easy to get to and without any noise. A lot of activities on Imagination are more Forward so we would have a small walk forward to get to the activities but not too bad. I think we would probably try to get Mid Ship if we sailed in the future. Our Steward was great and recognized my wife and I every morning. Room was always cleaned and cute little towel animals left every day. We left all of our electronics out with no problems - didn't feel a need to put anything in the safe. Dining was hit or miss. For the price we paid we can't complain and we enjoyed the food. But picky people beware, the buffet is probably more of an average buffet rather than a higher priced buffet. In addition the food during the evening dinners was good but not something that will blow your socks off. The wait staff at dinner was excellent and we enjoyed the food but it was a little hit or miss. Some dishes were excellent and others were okay, nothing spectacular. Either way - a great first time cruise option to see how well you can handle being on a ship for several days. Read Less

This is mainly a shore excursion review. My daughter (on spring break from college) and I did the Bufadora Kayak excursion. Rebecca and Carlos were our guides and they were great. (Jose-Luis was our driver and he was great as well, but didn't get in the water.) Nice drive out to the point, and then suited up. I recommend the wetsuits - they will keep you warm if the water is cold. Also, take Dramamine or other seasickness prevention. We had 5-6-foot swells, and when you're out in a small (even 2-person) kayak, you feel it more than in the cruise ship. We had great views of La Bufadora, far better than what is seen up top. Carlos led the way, and my daughter and I learned pretty fast how to paddle straight, how to turn, all with the help of Carlos and Rebecca. We got some great pics. If you have a waterproof camera or a waterproof sleeve for your phone, you may want to plan to take those. After paddling back in and rinsing off and changing, we headed up to the top of the Bufadora shopping street for great tacos. Then a quiet drive back to the ship, or to town to do some shopping. The cruise itself was great. I've done this particular cruise two other times, and the staff works hard to make sure everyone has fun. The weather was a little colder than we hoped, so less time for my daughter to sun on deck, but we lounged and read books in Serenity and other places on deck. We won a Thomas Kincade print at the art auction, and recommend those events as a fun thing to do. They had an egg-drop contest, and let individuals or teams build whatever they could to protect an egg dropped from the 10th deck to the 7th in the atrium. All winners won a medal. Our team used a parachute and straw design and won our medal. That was a fun part of the sea day. Shoutouts to Putu (room steward) and to Abigail and Angela, our dining room dinner staff. Highly recommend. Read Less

-Entertainment was fantastic. If Cruise Director Melessa is there, you are in for a great time. Gender Battle, Hairy Chest Competition (go Berta) - on the floor laughing. Eric Schwartz was extremely funny. The Divas show had great singing and dancing. I went with my 2 teen boys and we all had a great time. -Food was excellent - Guy Fieri burgers were fresh and delicious. PIzza was thin crust, fresh to order, and delicious. Iguana Cantina had great tacos. Skip the Lido dining - buffet didn't look that appetizing although made-to-order omelettes were good. We ate dinner in the Pride Dining Room and had mixed meals and service. -Room was tight for 3 of us. 2 twin beds and a cot. We had the ocean view which was nice. It was clean and served its purpose. -Outdoor activities. Mini golf was fun. Waterslide area was fun - the large slide could have used more water. Pool was too cold to use. Jacuzzi was packed with little kids. We made our way into it but be warned that you will have little arms and legs jamming into you. Never got to use ping pong table since it was always being used. -Excursions. Catalina activities were all cancelled due to weather. We rented a golf cart and drove around the island which was fun. Ensenada - we did horseback riding which was fun with great views. Couldn't quite understand why all the horses were kicking each other though. -Would we go again? YES. Really fun time at a great value. Read Less

Took the 12/13 to 12/16 weekend cruise to Mexico on Carnival Imagination. I have done this trip before and I've always had a good time. The Imagination is an older ship. This is to say that it doesn't have the amenities of the newer ships such as alternative dining or all the extra entertainment options you will find on the new builds. What you will get in return is an uncrowded ship (only about 2000 passengers) and a shower in your stateroom that you can actually turn around in. Sure the rooms don't have a fridge, unless you opt for the suites, but the extra shower room is nice. Breakfast options are abundant: Lido Buffet, Blue Iguana Cantina for breakfast burritos, room service and on sea days the awesome Sea Day brunch. Lunch offerings are Guy's Burger Joint, the deli in the buffet, the buffet, 24 hour pizza pirate and room service. Dinner is the restaurant, deli, pizza pirate, the buffet and room service. I have to admit that I've never ordered room service over the many times I've sailed on Imagination so I cannot rate the service or food quality. Entertainment was good. I have seen Epic Rock more times than I can count and I still enjoy the show. This show has eight singers/dancers who preform songs from Bon Jovi, Queen, Guns & Roses, Aerosmith, Meatloaf, Joan Jett, Journey and others. I always find myself clapping to the beat and cheering the performers. Such a fun time. They also do a show called Divas that features songs by Madonna, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Beyonce, Rhianna and others. It is a fun show, but I prefer Epic Rock. All the employees were friendly. Whether it was a bar steward, a waiter or jr waiter, room steward or someone you were passing in the hall. They all seemed happy and were there with a smile and a friendly hello. I've done just about all the tours and sightseeing there is to do in Ensenada. From visiting La Bufadora, to horseback riding, craft beer and wine tasting and the bar hop tour, I've found that the best way to experience Ensenada is just to get out there and walk around. I have limited Spanish vocabulary but have found that many of the people in the tourist areas speak English. Its Mexico so don't be afraid to haggle with the vendors. They expect it and you will end up paying too much if you don't. In my opinion this is a great vacation option. I only had to take two days off of work. What a great way to let lose and relieve stress. If you're looking for a fun, short cruise without breaking the bank, I recommend taking one of the Carnival weekend cruises. Either Imagination or Inspiration. Read Less

We were looking for warmer weather and this cruise was a great deal. Cabin was very nice but the best part was the dining. We had John, Hossain and Simoj as our wait staff and they made dinner time so must more then awesome. The service we received was like going to a four or five star restaurant. We really enjoyed Santa Catalina island and the time on shore, included a glass bottom boat tour while we were there. The island is not large and we were able to see quite a bit of it in the 5 to 6 hours we were there. The show are smaller and have more audience interaction then the larger ships we have been on. We did all the variety shows and a lot of the comedy shows, did not go to any thing we did not like. We enjoyed the cruise and had fun with the people at our table. Read Less

This is a good get away cruise. The embarkation was smooth and quick as they have a large upgraded facility. This will be a plus when the Panarama comes to town. Our Steward, Richmond, was kind, very attentive and met all our needs. This is the position that we always give extra tips to. This time we had an inside cabin, due to the small size of the ship, and it had more than enough room for us. Once we boarded we enjoyed a much needed Guy's burger which was delicious! We also hit the deli and the buffet. Rooms were open early so we enyoyed the jacuzzi. We had all of our dinners at the main dining room. The food is always great though it would be good to have more variety added. The breakfast menu was updated and was a great plus with good variety. We stayed on the ship as we had been to the ports before, so we always had chairs by the pool or at the Santuary. The seas day brunch is well worth any wait! The sea day had rain, but we were easily kept busy on our own, though it would be nice to have more of a variety of games or dance classes. The disembarkation was easy and we were off quickly after an early breakfast. Read Less

I recently moved to the west coast and i wanted to take a vacation before the year was over. After talking to my best friend, i decided to take a cruise. I took the 3 day cruise out of long beach to ensenada. Everything was absolutely amazing. The ship was so organized and the excursion was great. Getting on and off the ship was fast. I booked an excursion with carnival that picked us up right at the port of call and got us back to the ship in ample time. I had a interior port hole cabin on deck 6. I did feel some rocking but it was soothing. The food was delicious and there was always something to do like the divas show and trivia. You get so much for a great price. There was something for everyone like a club, children's activities and even a library that has board games. I will be taking my 5 year old daughter in May. Read Less

The two Carnival ships that do the short three and four day sails out of Los Angeles are old. So old, in fact, that there are very few balcony rooms. But looking beyond the vintage of the ship(s), my wife and I like these cruises. Here are my notes on our latest Imagination cruise. First, embarkation and debarkation were smooth as silk. Carnival turned this ship around twice a week, and they have it down to an art. Second, we liked our interior cabin. It was good size, the bedding and mattress were nice, and the bathroom was quite large compared to similar inside bathrooms we have encountered on other ships. Third, the food was good. The main dining room courses were consistently well prepared and presented. The Guy Fieri burgers up by the pool were always fresh, hot, and bursting with flavor. Even the pizza at the 24 hour pizza counter was well done. These three things on the Imagination were generally better than their counterparts on Princess, Norwegian, and HAL cruises we have sailed on. Could this all be because there are no pay-extra speciality dining restaurants on the Imagination, and thus Carnival gives its all to the everyday dining? Who knows. Finally, the entertainment on the ship was also good, particularly the comedians. Not surprising, I guess, given the huge amount of talent available in the LA area from which the ships sail. My husband and I went on this cruise for our 10 year anniversary and we had such a great time! The staff was so nice and welcoming and I love the fact that the employees are from different countries. We didn't take our kids but we will take them next time! First off my dinner service team was the best! My service team was Camilo-Team Headwaiter, Octavian and Kadek. Camilo was so welcoming and I loved his personallity, we will always ask for him if he is there next time. We also loved the three bartenders that worked at the bar right before you enter the place where the comedians perform, I can't remember their names but I think they were from Turkey, Ukrain and Columbia but I could be wrong but two guys and one blonde lady. Even our guest services that cleaned our room was friendly! We went on the ATV excursion and they were so good and we had such a blast! The food was good especially the cheeseburgers and I am not even a burger eater! This is a trip that I will never forget and we are defiantely going again real soon. Our cabin number was R25, we want to thank everyone for making this a memoriable trip and I am telling everyone, THANK YOU! Read Less

It also allowed us to disembarked first when we arrived back to long beach. The bags made it to our room pretty quickly so that was a plus. Catalina iIsland was amazing so i do recommend that. The first thing that amazed me was how speed of boarding. It was almost an uninterrupted walk through the cruise terminal straight to the boat. (I'm glad I didn't pay extra for 'Faster to Fun') The food was good... we keep it simple and healthy (salmon, salad bar, etc...) although you can 'lose control' and overload on fat and calories (many people do). I know from experience, it's way too easy to 'overdo' the caloric intake. What I love most about Carnival is it's great for my 7 year old (it was her 3rd Carnival Cruise). They have an amazing cruise director hosting a Dr. Seuss show and EVEN a Cat in the Hat Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast. They have a small waterpark in the back of the boat; even in April it was warm enough for the little kids to enjoy. The shows were entertaining, and Catalina is always a wonderful stop. Listen, It terms of amenities, dining: it's not the Ritz, but the prices are so reasonable (damn near too good to be true) it certainly helps enjoy the trip even more. Read Less

I get a kick out of reading the reviews. You can see reviews for the very same cruise will be rated a 5 and others rate it a 1. Don't these people do a little research on the cruise line and the cruise they are taking. Carnival is known to be the "Fun" Cruise Line. On a shorter trip is it going to be just a bunch of party animals. Heck Yes. Get with the program people. Find the Cruise Line that fits your needs and expectations, but also get ready to pay for it. I'm in my 50's and I had a blast on this trip. A ton of things to do. Never once saw people just sitting in the library reading a book. I wouldn't expect to on this cruise. Did I get totally drunk, No. Did I see others do so, Yes. Was that expected, Yes. Food was great. Service was great. Were there some "grumpy" people, yes, a few here and there. You try working a 12-hour day, six days a week. You might have a bad day once in a while. Encenada was great. Went to see La Bufadora. Yes, I have read many reviews of how the locals annoyed them about buying things. What is your problem. That is how they earn a living. Not sure what your problem was, we just said no thank you and walked on. They then didn't say a word. Stop and show a little interest (look at something) then yes, I'm sure they will harass you. But YOU started it. Get with the program people. My only complaint was that while on ship, some of the activities (trivia, games etc.) were held in a terrible location. Right in the middle of a very public area which was very loud and tons of people walking by. Then even tried to play "Sorry" right in the middle of the walking area. Fix that Carnival. Ship's design is a bit odd, but hey not going to "complain" about it. That is part of the reason why they are building newer ships for the fleet. Loved our trip and would go on the Imagination again. Would take one of these shorter trips again. Read Less

We wanted to get away for a quick trip. Booked this two weeks ahead . We have been on this ship before and had enjoyed it greatly. The food, as always, was outstanding wherever we ate. We had anytime dining, enjoyed the people and so we arranged to meet every night to eat together and have the same waiter. Our waiter was outstanding! His care and humor kept us at the table for two hours every night. His food suggestions were spot on. The main dining room's food was hot and tasty! A good choice of items. We always enjoy the food in the main dinning room. The Lido also always had a good choice for lunch with many tasty items. Did not have any pizza this time, but Guy's Burgers and the Blue Iguna filled us up with delicious meals! The Sea Day Brunch was also outstanding in choice and taste. Had a great Brunch dessert! Always enjoy getting up and running the track with the great view! Then eat my way past the Lido and Blue Iguna on the way to wake up my wife for breakfast. Enjoyed the PG comedian shows( the x rated is too offensive for us). Had seen the main shows before and wish Carnival would rotate them for the smaller ships with their shorter cruise days. There is much to be said about a quick and short cruise. Our room steward, Michael, was attentive and caring! If they could, a rope's course could be placed around the water slide area! More exercise for all. Read Less

We had never been on a cruise before and wanted to try a short cheap cruise that we could travel to easily. Carnival Imagination fit the bill with the 4-day Baja Mexico Itinerary. Ship: Ship is smaller than I expected. However, I appreciated the size because it was easy to get around. Decor is dated -- think 90's Vegas. However, only a few areas of the ship were decorated to excess, like the atrium. Lots of shiny brass. Everything was clean. Cabin: We chose a room with a porthole. I don't think that it was worth the extra price over an interior room since we spent most of our time on deck. Room was clean and standard. Only bathroom amenities were generic shampoo and soap. Reputation: I was concerned with this ship's reputation as a "booze cruise" as we don't drink. However, we found plenty of things to do, and most passengers were friendly and well-behaved. Crew members told us that they had more serious drinkers during their three-day itineraries. Keep that in mind when booking. Because we went in February, most of our fellow passengers were from Southern California who also took advantage of a cheap get away. We sailed during Super Bowl 2018 -- we're not big football fans, but I can see how this cruise would be excellent for those wanting to watch. We stayed in Long Beach port later than usual, so the game could be broadcast. For the game, the Imagination displayed the Super Bowl in their Dynasty Main Show Lounge and set up a buffet of game-time snacks like Philly cheese steak sliders and chicken wings. Dining: The buffet is sub-standard. Another reviewer compared it to downtown Las Vegas, and I'd have to agree. However, if you go past the warming stations, the sandwich station is maintained by staff who make sandwiches to order. However, we enjoyed the food in the dining room. Most dishes were excellent, particularly the appetizers and desserts. The fish dishes tended to be average, but not surprising given that the fish is prepared from frozen. Guy’s Burger Joint is a celebrated eatery, but I found it average. It’s a good burger that you can dress yourself or have them build for you with such things as a raft of bacon. Lots of sauce, ways to add heat, like jalapenos. But the eatery that is outstanding is the Blue Iguana cantina. The Blue Iguana cantina serves fresh tacos and burritos (including breakfast burritos). Fantastic salsa bar, including a jicama and watermelon pico de gallo. Crew: Crew was very friendly and helpful. Service was fantastic. Entertainment: The two stage shows had a small cast. However, we were impressed by the quality of singing and stagecraft. We preferred the Epic Rock show (classic 70s and 80s anthems) to the Divas show (contemporary pop). The comedians were good – same caliber as found in LA clubs and other big city comedy clubs. Conclusion: Great starter cruise to get your feet wet for cruising. Great value for the price. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we wanted an inexpensive cruise out of the Los Angeles area and wanted to visit Catalina and Ensenada. I had heard that this was nicknamed the Booze Cruise because it attracts a young drinking crowd and worried about it as we aren't big drinkers. There were a lot of non-drinking people from Utah on our ship and we were lucky enough to be seated with some at our early dining dinner table for 10. However, we did notice many drunk young adults in the hot tub on the Serenity deck every time we went there for some sun time and relaxation. Matey, our cruise director was entertaining and the shows were pretty good. They were geared to the age of the cruisers, so they were pretty loud! The comedians in the Punchliner comedy club were great! The food was outstanding, as usual on a Carnival cruise! But the best part of this was the excellent service by our cabin steward and wait staff in the dining room. Probably the best, most attentive service I have had on any ship in the past 10 years! A quick and fun getaway. Embarkation - chose a 12:30pm boarding time and walked right onto the ship with our carry on at about 12:15pm. Had lunch and then dropped our bags in our room before exploring the ship. Muster Drill - this was the only thing any of us had any complaints about. It was delayed about 15 minutes and took much longer that we have experienced in the past. We missed sunset and had little time after the drill before our dinner time. Carnival should work on this. Cruise Director Matey - this guy is a lot of phone and somehow is every where on this ship. He and his crew did a great job keeping the activities fun and lively. His energy and campy style are just what cruising is about. Fun, Fun, Fun. Cheerio! Entertainment - excellent in every way. The comedy club is so much fun and a great way to end the day. The stage productions were really good. Epic Rock was awesome, costumes and dancers better than many broadway shows I have paid for. Couldn't have enjoyed that more and considered watching it again the same night at the second showing. Dining - nearly everything I had on this cruise was good, and some of it really good. Guys burgers = delicious and so fast and easy. Blue Iguana was really good, and I eat mexican in so cal all the time so my bar is high. I ate there every day for either breakfast or lunch. Food in the dining room was really good, I enjoyed every meal. And chocolate melting cake is always amazing. Ship - the ship is in good condition and the facilities, rooms, etc were are clean and comfortable. I don't like the smoking in the casino and how it spreads around the ship, for me this is an issue. I'm waiting for the time when smoking inside is prohibited all together as it really does inhibit my enjoyment of many activities in the surrounding areas. Ports - we like Catalina and enjoyed the day by renting a golf cart and taking a tour. It was a little cool in January but Avalon is a charming little town and a fun place to visit. We always get off in Ensenada and walk into town. A few drinks and a little shopping is about all we get around to. This cruise is not really about the ports so don't expect too much at this time. Both my 91 year old Mom & I are avid cruisers (33 for her, 45 for me). She has never been on Carnival, and was worried about being a young, party ship. That's why I like it (I'm only 65!) But we thought a 3 day cruise would be all she should handle. Wrong! I had trouble keeping up with her. She was very surprised with the ship and the cabin- it was just as good in her opinion as other, more expensive lines. The Service was exceptional- everyone took great care of us. The food was exceptional for a 3 day cruise- better than longer cruises on higher lines: escargot, prime rib, beef tenderloin she could ut with a fork, salmon to die for, etc. She had a very limited diet, but always gave her excellent food. I loved the production shows (2 in 3 days!) but thought they my be too loud or not of her music type (hard rock). 'she so enjoyed the staging and dancing she was rocking along with everyone.. We did the ensenada shopping & wine excursion. We had a great guide, Leslie, who was very easy to understand. The winery I had been to before, but it was fun. We wanted Tequila, so she took us to the local supermarket and we got a steal on a high end tequila, rather than pay tourist prices in the tourist traps.. She met so many multigenerational families (parents, grandparents, grandkids) there was always nice people to talk to. I think she is already planing her next cruise on carnival ! Read Less

It's the best vacation we had so far, our family really enjoyed the whole trip. wonderful food, enough entertainment for all the age groups, real professional staff are in store for all. My kids are ready to take one more cruise immediately. Our time is well spent for three days, age groups wise programs in circle-C are very good. we had a family golf for the first time on the top deck, it's a pleasant time on the sea. I would suggest every one to take the cruise at least once to get the wonderful experience. Improvement opportunity is to add more Indian/Veg food and make the photographs a bit reasonable for every one to buy more. Shoreline excursion is a bit disappointment, we could not get the expected experience at La bufadora, geyser height is very less and the flea market is boring and not at all interested with the low quality products. I'm not sure where all the bad reviews come from, but Carnival ROCKS! Their staff is en pointe! They anticipated my every need. I traveled alone and every staff member I encountered made sure I felt special. The food was fabulous! The buffet does shut down just before lunch, to turn it over, so be aware. Each buffet has a theme, such as American, French, Italian. They don't run out of food either. It was so pleasant to take a plate and find a seat outside to enjoy the ocean view for a leisurely brunch. The main dining room is mouth watering! Just the right amount of choices for your 3 course dinner. And feel free to get one of everything if you want. I didn't have dinner reservations and only had to wait about 10 mins for a table on the last night (due to my timing)The spa staff exceptional! Make sure you get the manager special from the spa tour on Embarkation day. Worth every penny. The Elemis products are top notch. The only down side is that the jogging track is right above the spa treatment rooms, and you can hear people running. But, its not intolerable. OH, and you can get a spa robe to use in your cabin, like to wear to and from the pool/jacuzzi. So be sure to ask for one. Can I possibly put any more '!!' in this review? The ship was nice and clean. The decor is a little Vegasy, and a wee bit dated. They did deck it out for Christmas, which I hadn't anticipated. And the Christmas decor was pretty. There are easy to read maps at every elevator and most stairwells, so its hard to get lost. This was my 1st cruise and I'm ever so glad I went. Lots of fun stuff to do, from shows, to bingo to trivia games. Tons of raffles to enter, chances to win prizes. The Fun shops are pretty well stocked with Carnival shirts and keychains. There are even some toys for the kids. The jewelry shop is popular. Very sparkly. Make sure to go on the 1st day and enter all the raffles. I'm not convinced the prices are all they promise, but you can say you got your watch on the ship, right? The casino is a nice size and offers slots and table games. They allow smoking in the Casino, but to be honest, the smoke is very well filtered. It was no worse than any large Vegas casino room. I didn't gamble, but know it's only available while at sea (laws, I guess) Bingo is a hoot! Its very interactive. The Yahtzee and Hasbro games for the kiddies are very entertaining. I dare you not to smile! I enjoyed the live shows too. Very generic and family friendly. Songs you know and costumes that don't make you blush. There is a PG and R rated comedy show. I only went to the PG show and it did make me laugh. Getting on and off the ship was a breeze. Carnival really tries to keep the lines to a minimum. The tender to Catalina is very quick. They run at least 2 boats back and forth so you can expect to wait no more than about 15 minutes. Coming back took about 45 mins all told. Go on the Undersea Boat tour on Catalina. I loved seeing all the fish! Also rented a Golf cart and toured the island. You can do the whole route in an hour, so don't spend extra on that. Shopping is a little lacking , but I still managed to stop in just about every single store. Mostly typical tourist kitch, like Tshirts and magnets. Prices are normal, too. I really cant find anything good to say about Ensenada, unfortunately. There is a small pavillion right on the dock, so you can jump off the ship, buy a doodad, and get right back on (like I did). The view from the dock is lacking and to be honest, only after dark was the view worthy of even a picture. Carnival does a nice Disembarking presentation, so if its your 1st cruise, you don't want to miss it. Lots of good information and it really made leaving much easier. Took about an hour to get off the ship. OH and the Carnival bus to and from the airport is a must! So stress free! No traffic, no hassle, no parking, no worries. Read Less
