We chose this cruise (4 day to Catalina & Ensenada) because we wanted an affordable, fairly short cruise. We had a great time and loved our cabin. The crew was amazing. They were always professional and friendly. We loved our cabin steward Arnold who even fixed a squeaky door for us. Our waiters, John and Samdani were the best! The comedians and musical shows were top notch. We loved the Buffet - always good food and good service. Food in the dining room - not so good. The Caesar salad dressing had no flavor at all and the fish was terrible. From other cruises, the dining room is usually the best, so I was disappointed in the quality this time. My biggest concern was the on board bathrooms. They were consistently dirty. Not one was being cleaned on a frequent enough basis. I even saw toilet paper on the carpets outside the bathrooms. Service on some of the decks by the buffet wasn't so great. We were on the back deck and observed every table had dirty dishes/food/glasses on them and it took about 20 minutes for someone to clear them up. Then it took another 20 minutes for the same guy to come back to clean them, but he did a lousy job. He didn't use any type of spray/cleaner and on a few tables, only cleaned half the table. The other big concern - the elevators. My daughter got stuck in one and had to pry the doors open to get out. They were constantly broken. There were lots of Trivia & other games, but the prizes are tempting enough to make me want to participate. Maybe offer the winners a free drink or something, not just a plastic ship on a stick. They really need to offer more activities for the 18-20 year old crowd. I don't know if I will cruise with Carnival again. Read Less

This was a 3 day cruise that departed Thursday and returned Sunday. This is my 3rd cruise. The first two were on Celebrity ships in the Caribbean. This cruise did not match up anywhere near the same quality as my first two cruises. The food quality was fair. The quality was somewhere between fast food and a Denny's or IHop. There was only pizza and ice cream available in the mid afternoon and late evenings. The entertainment was good though and always on time. The ship was smaller, the rooms were smaller and it was crowded. The passengers were about 40% families with minors, 50% adults between ages of 30 and 50 and the rest were seniors. I don't think I would do this cruise again. I was spoiled on my other cruises which had some of the best food I ever ate. I paid $1,470 for an interior room for 4 people. On line app to text was $5 per person, The after cruise mandatory tip was $42 per person. Drinks were $7.62 for a beer and about $10 for a mixed drink ( tips and tax included ). Read Less

Carnival is a great value for those on a budget but I was really disappointed in the food. We had anytime dining. Here were some exceptions: 1. 5 stars: Featured Vegetarian dish--the head chef was Indian and the Featured Vegetarian dish offered each night for dinner in the dining room was Indian and fantastic (just get extra yogurt sauce if you can't handle spicy food) 2. 4 stars: Guy's Burgers. 3. 5 stars: Strawberry soup appetizer offered in the dining room 4. 4 stars: Caesar salad 5. 4 stars: ice cream (order the banana split off the kids menu for dessert, nothing else was good) In general, I found most seafood and desserts offered to be terrible and everything else to be ok. Steak tip: They charge you for the good steak at dinner but you can get a small portion for free at brunch (Steak and Eggs) Embarkation and Debarkation was a breeze in Long Beach Best fish tacos on the planet: Tacos Lily in Ensenada (your maps app should be able to find it.) Recommended by Anthony Bourdain (No Reservations, Season 8). Next to the fish market. A short walk from where the bus drops off passengers downtown ($8 round trip if you are not doing an excursion). We ate ceviche at another location and didn't have any tummy problems so yay! Service was wonderful. Bed was very comfy, bathrooms were nice and clean We had a 4 year old and she liked the kid's club Noise sensitivity. Bring noise cancelling headphones for anyone with noise sensitivity. Everything was so loud (DJ on Lido deck, Muster drill, any show in the lounges) my 4 year old had her headphones on almost the entire time we were out of our room. Seasick: I got a little seasick on the at-sea day. They will give you free generic seasick pill at guest services for free if you forget your dramamine Birthday: I celebrated my birthday on the ship and on the evening of the second day, they gave me a $50 credit at the spa for use on the 3rd day only. Frankly that left little time to make a reservation but the prices are so high, $50 wasn't really a big savings and I didn't use it. They also gave me a $12 credit for pictures and I did buy pictures. Bottled Water: Since this was my second carnival cruise, I got a large bottle of water free (sign up for the VIFP club) and it was enough, we didn't need to buy any extra water. Read Less

Cheap and Cheerful Spring Break Cruise. Can’ beat the cabin size real estate ocean view category, value for money. Lots of space for storage,. Thumbs up on moveable storage stands, moved one in cabin bathroom for shelving. Nice side window in cabin. Great staff on board! Food was awful, like TV dinner quality in the MDR! Stick to the Breakfast Buffet items in Cafe. Bar staff friendly and approachable. Shore excursions fun and value for money. Coffee bar and Sushi kiosk, extra cost, but good service and items available. Entertainment was good for all audience age groups. Nice cruise, for families on spring break, variety of activities. Cruise did not seem overly crowded for a holiday sized crowd, lines were minimal, if any. Did not utilize spa services while on board. Beverage package was a great value, no lines at bar. Excellent cruise, except food was terrible and hope Line will work to make it seem less “cafeteria” like. Read Less

This was a family cruise to celebrate an eighty-fifth birthday. We were 23 in number with many young people on their first cruise - no one under 16. I mistakenly had my bags checked aboard and had a bottle of wine removed. I would carry my bags on board next time. We had a suite which was excellent - spacious, clean with amenities. We were not fond of the main entertainment but the smaller venues were good. The zip-lining in Catalina was excellent and the wine tour in Ensenada was good. The cruise ship food was good and the evening dining and service quite good. Birthdays were acknowledged at dinner and the serving staff entertaining. All areas were usually kept clean. The main pool and spas were always full with children. There was an adult pool, but on this cruise, it was full as well. The main entertainment was not very good, but the smaller venues were fine. On a previous 3 day cruise, the entertainment was excellent with Broadway -type shows. The drawbacks - a valuable ring and an article of clothing were take from the room. Obviously, the only people with access were the steward and cleaning personnel. Also, while we paid for internet access, we never had it. Read Less

This is my second time on carnival imagination. February 3rd-7th 2019. And I have to say that I was disappointed in a lot of things the second time around. My wife and I requested a king size bed and they just threw two twins together and put a big sheet over it. So my wife was slipping into the crack between bed all night. Not comfortable. Also, the hot tubs could hardly be called so. They were kept at a lukewarm bathtub temperature of 98 degrees and filled only to lower chest level so you had to slouch to even get your body in. 2 years ago they were kept at 102. 4 degrees makes a huge difference in a hot tub. The staff would not budge on warming it up either. Lots of the staff in general were very unhappy people. However, the waiters in the spirit dining room were absolutely AMAZING! Just a bunch of really kind and happy to help fellas. The boat was a lot more Rocky this time. They can't help that, it's just the ocean, but when booking make sure to know what the weather is like especially if you get seasick. The comedians were on point most nights and very funny. The love and marriage show was a good time and so was Karaoke. There was a storm when we were trying to reach Catalina island so they didn't port there the night they planned. But it was nice that they did make it happen the next day when the weather was clear. Buffet deserts were usually just dry and not very sweet, but the ice cream dispenser was always delicious. The sit down breakfast in the pride dining room was also very disappointing. I tried the French toast, the waffles, and the pancakes and they were all very sub-par. I enjoyed disembarking in Catalina and Ensenada. Both were fun places to visit and enjoy. Read Less

This was our second cruise with Carnival. Our first was a 7 day Western Caribbean with just me and my husband. For this time around, we wanted a shorter cruise, not too far from home to take our 4 kids. I assumed that since both cruises were with the same cruise line they would be the same in quality and experience- they were not. There were many of differences (sadly, most of them were negative). Things that were the same- - Our cabin was clean and beds were cozy. I love Carnival's Comfort Bed Collection. I have a hard time sleeping away from home and I think all beds are too hard and uncomfortable. These aren't. I slept like a baby. - Food in the dining room did not disappoint- just as great as our Caribbean cruise. The buffet was pretty much the same- mediocre buffet food. My kids loved the ice cream though. - The dining room and housekeeping staff were friendly and did an outstanding job, as usual. Things that were different- - Surprisingly, most of the other staff were very rude and not friendly at all. It was almost painful to get a smile out of them. - The buffet dining area tables were a mess. The staff in charge of cleaning off the tables would clear the tables but didn't wipe them off, leaving them a greasy mess. - I noticed the food staff skimped on the good stuff with this cruise. They had a worker at the sweets table cutting slices of cake and desserts paper thin. And the mozzarella cheese on the pizzas were pretty much non-existent. Normally, I absolutely love their pizzas! Good thing that the guys' burger place was the same deliciousness! - It seemed very unorganized. We didn't leave the Long Beach port until almost two hours after scheduled departure. We had to wait for an hour for our safety briefing in a smokey casino/bar with our kids- not good. - The ship is very small compared to other Carnival ships. There were pros and cons to this: I liked that my kids could make their way around the ship fairly easy and not get lost. However, I didn't like that often times we had to walk through the bar/casino area to get where we wanted to go. Also, because the ship is smaller, I felt like they were more limited on their choices for activity locations. Because of this, the more popular adult activities get priority of locations. For example, they had a Harry Potter trivia activity where mostly families and children were attending, in a bar right next to the casino. That wasn't a good location for a family activity, yet, the other lounges were being used for Bingo and other activities. Also, we had way more seasickness on this cruise. I think the smaller boat and the rougher waters made everything way more noticeable. - I wan't impressed with this cruise director or the "fun squad" at all. The activities were ok- nothing to rave about. They had the usual Bingo and late night entertainment. However, I felt like the activities for families and kids were lacking. The last day on the ship you would have thought because it was a sea day they would have filled it with super fun activities, however there were only a few activities that were actually fun that they weren't trying to sell you something. My sister commented that they call the ship imagination because you have to use your imagination for activities. - The clubs for kids were ok. My 7 and 10 year old went to Camp Ocean. They really liked the free time and made some cute crafts. However, when they went back they hated it because there were so many kids in there that it felt way too crazy and unorganized for them. So that seemed like a hit or miss thing. My 13 year old went to Circle C. He really liked meeting new friends and playing video games, however, for me, it was way too unorganized. I would go to get him for dinner or a family activity and they would be closed with just a sign up saying the club was closed. I had no idea where he was or what he was doing. There were three times I had to go to guest services to try to track him down. I think part of this was my fault. I didn't understand how the CircleC club worked. Because of the age, they are able to just come and go as they please, and sometimes the whole group would all leave to go play mini golf or whatever and just put a sign up and lock the door. For parents who don't mind their kids wandering the ship and doing whatever, it would be fine, but I didn't like that. Overall, I think this would be a great cruise for singles or couples who are just looking for a quick "getaway", or to party. I wouldn't recommend it for families. In fact, because of my experience here, I will be sailing with Carnival's competition on my next cruise. It's too bad because our Carnival cruise last year was so amazing. Read Less

I'll be brief. Our room was U104 and since we'd cruised this ship before knew what rooms were like. There is plenty of room and balcony is nice. The room and bathroom are dated but shower was nice. Room steward was lax on upkeep each day and rarely saw this woman. Our communication were thru notes. The bathroom floor was dirty in corners. One day the toilet was backed up from somewhere else. We had to deal with brown stuff in toilet while we waited for someone to figure out flushing was not enough. I stood there one time flushing 20 times to get rid of it. Nothing disappeared. We called and waited for 3 hours. Each time we called we were told someone was on their way. Nothing. Finally someone did show up and said it was fixed. It was but I had to ask for it to be cleaned. We did receive a 63.00 credit for inconvenience. Staff were not friendly except main dining room. We had room service one morning (after putting out our food choice card on door knob night before) and had to end up calling after they were 30 minutes late. Still had to wait another 45 minutes for service. Then no coffee cups. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we needed a shorter cruise over Christmas leaving from the West Coast. There are 2 choices - Carnival Imagination or Inspiration. So, not a lot of choices - do you want to leave Sunday? Or Monday? This was once a great, new ship. Now it’s an older ship and much smaller than most ships afloat. It does have a lot of old (I mean 90’s) charm and decor. Public Areas are more compact and the shops, lounges, casino are fairly small. The water slides are very fun and probably great when it’s warmer! The food was ok. They keep a tight reign on the bacon and pass it out at the buffet like it’s made of gold. The burgers & burritos were great choices for afternoon lunching. The at sea “Dr. Seuss Green Eggs & Ham” Brunch is worth $5 charge. It’s super fun - and great for kids. The cabins are dated. There are virtually no balcony cabins on this ship. The decor is old, as are the carpets in the cabins and hallways. I don’t want to bash this cruise entirely. It was fun. It was weird to be gone for Christmas. The dining staff and food was average as was our cabin stewart. The alcoholic drinks are ridiculously expensive and totally NOT worth what they charge. I have sailed on Holland America, Norwegian and now Carnival. This was my 50th birthday cruise to Ensenada Mexico. It left from Long Beach, CA so was easy to get to from Oregon and it was a short cruise which was ideal since I had several friends and family coming along. The ship was older and smaller than previous cruises I have been on. There were things to do on board during our "at sea" day (the first full day even though Ensenada was close by). However, none of us could participate in anything because for the first 24 hours of the cruise the ship was pitching and rolling so much we could barely stand upright. I had my parents with me and some of them are beginning to have mobility issues... I know the ship can't control the ocean and I'm not sure what I would have expected Carnival to do, it was just a difficulty we weren't expecting and that I had not experienced before. Aside from the curve ball mother nature threw us, the cruise was "ok". The room was fine but it would have been nice to have something other than the bed to sit on, and a coffee maker would have been appreciated. The food was marginal - the buffet was not large, there were only two other main dining restaurants and we were assigned to one of them. The manu was limited and the portions were small. There was a sandwich bar, a pizza bar - the quality of thes was so-so. There was also a burger place near the pool - that was a GOOD burger! I think my biggest frustration was the service. On previous cruises, the staff treated us like we were the first and only passengers on the ship giving us attention like they wanted us to have a good time. On this Carnival cruise, the staff were just going through the motions and actually avoided eye contact to get out of serving us on a few occasions! Except for the people that wanted us to buy overpriced stuff on board... For the shore excursion we were going to just go into town, but on the bus on the way, they talked us into going to Bufadora and the Flea Market. I'm really glad we did. It was a lot of fun even though in the market there's a lot of pressure from the vendors to buy their wares. All in all this cruise was pretty much what I intended it to be - a quick getaway with a group to celebrate my birthday, but Carnival cruise line in general left me a little disappointed when compared to other cruise lines I have experienced. I can't say I will jump at the chance to book another carnival cruise. Read Less

I have been on cruises before with Carnival. So, I like Carnival but sometimes its a hit or miss on some cruises if you dont have good staff, So let me kind of tell you the bad news first, 1. When we arrived at the port we were ready to hand over our luggage to the folks to take it to the ship. However the porters said we dont work for the cruise line but if we take your luggage for you if you give us a tip. We talked to the Carnival representative and they said that our cruise price included luggage transfer to the boat. Apparently the porters were trying to shake down customers for more money. We noticed this problem only at the Long Beach port but not at other ports where the service was excellent. We had to bring our own luggage on board since it appeared if we did not pay...we may not get our luggage if the porter wanted to be mean. He appeared to look like he could screw us since there is no logging of our luggage or proof we gave it to the porter, That was a real drag. 2. My daughter won a prize at giveway for guest in the main lounge. The Cruise Director said it was 200 dollar value. But the stuff in the package was crap necklace that you get for free at the shops. Plus there was a 25 off 175 dollar coupon. The other gifts were free excursions and other valuable gifts. The Cruise director took the cabin number down to investigate but never followed up. The prize was more of an insult to us and the director did not seem to care. This is unlike other cruise directors on other boats. Her assistant also did not care and told her to trade the gift to another person. The gift was worthless so there was nothing to trade. Note this behavior never occurred with other cruise directors who seem more attentive to customers. 3. Cabin service on main deck portholes was horrible. Beds were suppose to be separate and we had to push the steward to make the change even though we booked the rooms that way. We found globs of air on the new towels. When we were moved to a new cabin due to noise issues (see below), the stewards were excellent. This was on the Rivera floor 4. 4. Food was ok. 5. Service at the dinning was excellent from the entire staff. 6. Comedy club and night entertainment was very good, Like I said, most Carnival cruises are very good, Sometimes you don't get a good cruise director or cabin steward and that kind of blows most of your cruise, The real problem is the luggage situation where the porters are trying to intimidate/extort money from passengers when that service should be part of the cruise package, Read Less

My plan on this cruise was to be either drunk or hungover the entire time and to have my wife babysit me. My experience did not disappoint! Seriously though (and I was being serious by the way!) this is a party boat with all kinds of interesting people so if drinking, tattoos, pink hair, or piercings offend you, don't bother. If you're open minded and looking to have a good time for not a lot of money, this cruise is not bad. Food - I thought it was fine but my wife thought it was terrible. We did breakfast at the buffet every day and it was a solid mix of classic American breakfast foods (it's hard to mess up bacon and sausage!). The burger and burrito spots were also pretty good for lunch. The main dining room was alright but honestly, they should stick to more basic foods. They try to do delicacies like escargot and alligator but did a pretty poor job with those. The fried shrimp was good though! And why even bother having a formal elegant dress night when half the people on the boat probably don't own a suit? Not judging here but just seemed silly. This is a trashy booze cruise (not that there's anything wrong with that!), so why bother trying to make it elegant? Drinks - cocktails were pretty good and reasonably strong overall. A bit overpriced but not too bad for a cruise ship. Do the math on the unlimited drinks package beforehand and see if it makes sense for you and your party! Service was good at the bars around the boat. Amenities- Waterslides were pretty fun for people of all ages, mini golf course could use updating but was alright. Fun to have other games on board as well. The main pool is kind of small and gets crowded during the day with lots of drunk people and little kids (interesting mix!). The 21+ "Serenity" area was ok but too small. Two hot tubs were nice but an adults only pool would have been good. Shows - we went to the "Divas" show and walked out after 20 minutes. It was awful. Didn't try any shows after that. There was a lot of pleasant live music around the boat throughout the day though. Much more talented than the folks in the Divas production! The acoustic guitar player in the main atrium was particularly good. Ports of Call- Catalina is a cute little island but there isn't much to do. There are some quaint shops and eating/drinking spots. You can arrange watersports and activities through the boat or better yet, go to one of the many vendors yourself for a better deal. The beach area near the pier was tiny and overcrowded. No thanks! Ensenada- This was the highlight of our trip. The ATV/Wine Country tour was excellent and highly recommended. The tourist area in the town was cool too. Be sure to check out Hussongs bar for a neat atmosphere, great live music, friendly bartenders, and reasonable prices. And do haggle with the local merchants on the street! Stateroom - Spacious enough and nice porthole view. Our room steward was fantastic. Thanks Erwin! Wifi- Paid 70 dollars for TERRIBLE wifi. I couldn't even get gmail for an entire day. Wifi is never good on cruises but this was PATHETIC. I'd have asked for a refund for my last day's wifi had a I been sober. Misc. - There's a long wait to get off the boat at Catalina and a monstrosity of a line to get through customs after the cruise. Kind of annoying but not a huge problem. Staff were good overall but some were very poorly trained. A guy at the buffet literally picked up my wife's purse, commenting on the style and saying he liked it. She didn't appreciate having a random guy grab her bag, play with it, and make comments about it. People also trying to take your picture EVERYWHERE. I mean they just stick cameras in your face multiple times a day. And then you have to dig through everyone's photos if you actually wanna buy them. BAD SYSTEM and VERY ANNOYING! TLDR - it's a cheap booze cruise that's a solid value. There are lots of trashy people and kids. If you have 5 or more tattoos and are an alcoholic, you'll fit in with the crowd. The food is decent and plentiful but not gourmet at all (and the attempts at gourmet food are SAD.) Read Less

We went on this cruise to celebrate our daughter graduating high school! I am actually torn between a 3.5 and a 3.0...but I have to do a 3.0 First, the good parts. It was short. Catalina was amazing. Ensenada was pretty cool too, but we all loved Catalina the best. What did we do on Catalina? We rented the golf carts for 3 hours. So fun and the best thing to do. After that, we went to town, shopped, and had the BEST LUNCH EVER at the Lobster Trap. Omgosh, it was so good! You just can't go wrong with this place. In Ensenada, my husband picked a "resort"...which was basically a hotel with some fake sand. We spent a few hours..the pool was not heated and again, it was a fake beach. But, we made the best of it. We then went into town and had a great lunch at the El Corralito. So much food and really yummy too. You for sure want to split here. Now, on to the ship. It is a little run down, not horrible, but pretty dated. They have no control over kids. We had a family of like 30 on our floor and the kids were allowed to constantly run around and treat the halls as a playroom. I just really believe staff should nip this. If I need to sneak away and take a nap in MY ROOM, I should be able to without kids running up and down the hall. Some parents suck. Staff needs to monitor the halls better. The food has really gone downhill. We went on Carnival cruises in 2011, 2012, and 2014. Food was really pretty good. However, starting with our 2017 cruise, and now our 2018...not so good. Actually pretty awful. Just feel like the quality has "left the ship". Three people in our group actually had mold on their tortillas. :( They did right and gave those three people a steak dinner the next night...but still...eww. After a 4 night cruise, I was ready to be done with the food. Overall, it is a decent cruise. Short but sweet. Not too long. The ports are fun and cool. Great get away. If you can handle the negatives. Read Less

Ok, I'm just gonna go category-by-category so I don't forget anything: SHIP: This ship legit looked like it was straight out of 1992--and not in a cool nostalgic kind of way. It is dated. Really dated. And it smells. My friends and I narrowed it down to this list of rotating odors that waft throughout the ship at any given time: cigarettes, farts, garbage or some other unpleasant smell we couldn't identify. The pool was a weird shade of green that looked like algae... I didn't get in once(and I usually swim like a fish). A part of the ship that was GOOD was the Serentiy Adults Only deck. The only complaint here though, is that the hot tubs were dirty. Like, the water left a weird brown residue on my bikini and my friends' bikinis as well. Gross. The Pride Dining Room was ok. Entrees were hit or miss; ultimately the best meal I had all week was the filet mignon that I had to pay an extra $20 for. CABIN: It was fine.... a typical indoor room. Only issue here was there wasn't a fridge! Also, our bathroom had all sorts of little gnats/flies flying around the top of the bathroom and dozens of dead bugs were above the door, in the corner of the ceiling and on the floor as well. Kinda gross. EMBARKATION/MUSTER: Embarkation was the best I've ever seen! Super fast, my room was ready within 10 minutes of me getting on the ship and our luggage wasn't too far behind! So that was great. The muster drill, however, was the slowest, longest muster I've seen. I don't understand why it took so long on such a small ship that wasn't even full, but it took FOREVER. DISEMBARKATION: I walked myself off and it was fine. ENTERTAINMENT: "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." CREW: Great crew! I love how Carnival crew members call everyone by name. It's such a great touch, and so much better than being called "Miss", "Ma'am" or "Madame". SPA/FITNESS CENTER: Spa was pretty good. Got a great deal on a sea day for a massage and I really enoyed it! it was very good!! The fitness center was fine, just a bit small. But I never had to wait for equipment! I traveled in a group of 7 women who were on a Girl's Trip. All of us are in our mid 20s to mid 30s. Read Less

I went with 14 women, we wanted a fun at a economical price... Myself, my room mate, and our friends next to us along with several other people from our side of the Ship heard banging noise on the side of the Ship Day and night..Kept us awake during the whole cruise.. We complained 3 times.. Our friends were able to move to another cabin. Customer service claimed that they didn't have another room to move us, instead they compensated us with a beach towel, and a robe... That didn't help us sleep any better. There were a lot of kids on board, running up and down the hall ways, playing in the elevators, and had full control of the Jacuzzi.. Unsupervised by their parents. Again for 4 days weren't able to use the Jacuzzi.. On the plus side, the dining and food was wonderful, our waiters, Christian Villaflor, Larry Caballes, and Made Mudita were wonderful.. So was our cabin attendant Sharon was always friendly, smiling and called us by name.. I only had 1 drink in 4 days, but was charged $82.22 including tips.. something is wrong there too..would like a reply from Carnival.. Read Less

I redeemed an award for this cruise, so my friend and I essentially went for free. We had only been on one previous Carnival cruise, although we cruise frequently with another cruise line. We both agreed that, while it was a nice, quick getaway, you definitely get what you pay for. The food was pretty bland most of the time with the exception of Guy's Burger Joint and the salad/fruit bar. The pastries and French toast were great, also. We took advantage of the drink gift cards we ordered for ourselves ahead of time and found the drinks to be very well-prepared. The ability to order a 12 pack of water was terrific. The ports of call were good. We had a lot of fun, particularly on the Beer and Taco excursion in Ensenada. I highly recommend that one! We didn't really take advantage of the onboard entertainment as we were perpetually jet-lagged, so I can't comment on that. I do know they showed the same movie twice during a 4-day cruise, which I don't understand since there are so many great new movies out there. Some of the staff seemed a little grumpy, but the majority were very friendly and helpful. The cabin size was larger than expected for an Ocean View. The beds were great and we slept well. The bathrooms could use a good scrubbing. I tried hard not to look in the corners. The one major criticism I had with the cruise - and the main reason I wanted to write this post - is regarding infection control on the ship. Aside from the fact that this is cold and (an especially vicious) flu season, there was little visible attempt to decrease germ transmission on the ship. There are far too many things for people to "touch" in the buffet line. You have to push buttons to get your drinks instead of having the lemonade and tea pre-poured. There are community salt and pepper as well as catsup and mustard bottles instead of individual packets. I saw people reaching with bare hands into the bowl to grab a couple of cookies. There is nothing in the daily cruise newsletters promoting handwashing or use of hand sanitizer. Sanitizer is everywhere, but people walk right past it. There is no staff on hand to gently insist passengers use it. And during the entire four days, I only saw staff wiping down the stair rails once. Tables got bussed efficiently, but were not wiped - let alone sanitized - after use. Lots of people cleaning the floors - very few people cleaning touchable surfaces. I think Carnival could do a much better job in working to keep passengers healthy as well as happy. Read Less

Choose this cruise because of the price - good value for your money Ports are good - day at sea could have had some more activities -- Guy's burgers were great - Breakfast buffet was terrible - even though you are there right when it opens the pancakes and waffles are luke warm at that - they make themi in the kitchen and by the time they bring them out they are cold. Cook for you omelets and eggs are good; We did first to the fun which is definitely worth it. Easy embarkation - priority tender (although after boarding it we had to wait for the tender to fill so we sat there for a half hour. Easy debarkation. Our room was ready when we boarded which was at 11:30 am - which is a plus since most cabins werent ready till 1:30. Dinner in the dining room is good. You can order as many appetizers or entres as you want. Service was good Read Less

Once we entered the ship you are blasted with music right away and then herded to the buffet area. The way to buffet is set up people are tripping over each other to get the all you can eat everything. There was a very stale smell through the area and my clothes smelled of grease after we left. The décor is TACKY and I mean to the point it was so bad it actually became one of the highlights of the cruise in that we could not stop laughing at all the gold breasts and winged statues. I tried to count all the boobs but lost track. This is an old ship and is really used more by locals as a party barge. They stayed an extra day out to sea just so people could gamble. The casino was on the middle of the ship and clouds of smoke was everywhere around it. Carnival has a lot of "contests" that look like you are going to get something for free but it is just a way to get more money. I "won" a spa treatment but needed to pay additional costs that added up to quite a bit. I did not eat at the buffet but instead ate in the dining room. Breakfast was good and all the wait staff friendly. Dinner was either not so great or just okay. I never had a meal that I would rave over. With that being said in the dining room if you do not like what you get you can order something else so the flexibility is nice. I liked being able to eat on my own time. I did not like "shots" being yelled out across the room as they tried to hawk what they called a shot and I call the smallest mixed drink you could imagine. Drinking seemed to be the big draw to people. We kept spotting two very intoxicated women we named Wobble and Stagger, they were very nice but I really thought they were overserved. As someone who doesn't drink much I chose to abstain, this may have been a mistake. I think the cruise would be best for those who see things through a rose' tinged glass. Our room was sketchy and there was so much black mold that we actually had them replace our shower curtain. I suspect our room was used by staff when not booked. We did book the cheapest cabin as this was a last minute trip. I got what I paid for. The entertainment was good, not Disney good but about what I expected. The rock show was done well and the comedy acts were great. We met a lot of nice people on the cruise so that was great. The entertainment director or activity director and his crew were AMAZING! SHOUT OUT to Laz and Alex and the crew, they work so very hard going from one event to another. I watched as they ran from dancing for charity to doing a children's parade to running trivia non-stop. They had karaoke in the main floor bar and that was the highlight on ship for us, everyone singing along and even dancing. We did off shore activities but will write a separate review for that. Overall I feel that this is a party ship and if you are looking for a more relaxed vibe you may want to look into another cruise. However I did end up having a blast because sometimes you just gotta ride the waves. Read Less

This was my 3rd cruise on the Imagination and this itinerary. I took this cruise with my oldest grandson, it was a belated high school graduation gift. The ship is one of arnival's older ships but it was in good condition. I had no complaints with regards to the ship's condition. Overall the cruise was "average", for Carnival. You must remember that Carnival is a "budget" cruise line. It reminds me of flying Economy versus Business Class (or First Class). My last cruise, If you remember that then you'll have a very good time on a Carnival cruise. I am Platinum with Carnival and cruise with them at least once each year (3 times in 2017). 0ne week before this cruise I was on a 2 week Mediterranean cruise on Celebrity (like Business Class). Embarkation: Very quick and easy - I am Platinum with Carnival so we receive "special" treatment. Stateroom: Service was GREAT. Our cabin steward, Watson, was a 10 out of 10. Since my wife wasn't with me I only asked for morning service rather than morning/evening. Dining Room: I had "anytime" dining in the Pride Dining Room. Anytime dining is nice but if you pick a busy time you will wait some time for your table. Food was good enough in the dining room. Breakfast in the Pride Dining Room was HORRIBLE. Service was uncharacteristically not up to Carnival standards. I had to ask for service on two separate occasions. Buffet; I give this a 3 out of 10. Selection of food was not good and the quality wasn't good either. I rarely eat the buffet on any cruise ship. Entertainment: It has been a very long time since Carnival has put on a show that I liked (been cruising with them since 2000), this cruise was no different. I do enjoy the Punchliner Comedy Club. Russ Nagel, the World's Funniest Biker was one of the comedians. I have seen Russ before and really enjoy his comedy. Casino: Here's where I spend most of my time on-board. I enjoy gambling, especially Texas Holdem. I won the tournament and now have a seat in the $175,000 Carnival Poker Pro Texas Holdem Tournament in August 2018. I have played in this tournament several times before with very good results. My 18-year old grandson was able to gamble for the first time and even won the Blackjack Tournament. He received a Ship-on-a-Stick, $500, plus a seat in the $100,000 Carnival Blackjack Tournament. Not bad for a first time player. Ports-of-Call: Catalina Island - I have been to CI a dozen times so there wasn't anything there that I hadn't seen or done. Ensenada; We went to the blowhole (again). While there I paid to let my grandson pet the young tiger, lion, leopard, and panther. Worth every penny of the $60 I paid. Debarkation: We took our luggage off the ship ourselves. We were off the ship and driving out of the parking lot within 15-minutes (we left the ship at 7am). Overall not a bad cruise. I will do this one again. Read Less

I had experienced my first cruise ever in the early '90s on CARNIVAL during Spring break. At that time I was in my 20s and honestly had the time of my life! Now 30 years have passed and I have cruised extensively on the other brands under the Carnival Corp & PLC Ownership (Princess, Holland, etc) as well as Royal Caribbean. My complaints (which aren't many because I love cruising) are completely different from brand to brand. For this specific cruise we chose a more value oriented vacation because we planned a big surprise w friends for my mothers 90th Bday. So I was already familiar w several other ships/brands etc and knew Carnival would provide value and more of a fun atmosphere for our group. HOWEVER, when I say fun ... it doesn't necessarily mean playing music at 20000 decibels all over the ship 24/7. I LOVE MUSIC probably more than any other creative outlet - but even I was astonished at the unbelievable LOUD and intrusive selections as well as the dj's inability to actually mix music together. But like I said, for the value, you must accept the things you cannot change, and don't let it become a negative obsession. BUT, my one of my favorite pastimes of just sitting back and watching the crowd go by was unrivaled on the Carnival Imagination! And a REALLY friendly diverse group of folks all very upbeat. Now, on Princess or Holland, the experience is DEFINITELY NOT a party atmosphere, but the food and accommodations are much more classy & upscale. But, on those cruise lines everyone is either married or a widow/widower w the only children in sight pushing their late teens. So, in the end it all depends on what you're looking for or hoping to gain from your experience. It was nice to see mid life singles, and actually have some fun yet meaningful interactions. I have yet to find one or two other singles in the THOUSANDS of older married couples who frequent the other ships under the Carnival umbrella of brands. In the end it's always nice to have a vast experience in all categories. Some trips you just want to read & relax and not be bothered, and others you want to " throw your hands up in the air, like you just don't care " LOL Read Less

Two girlfriends and I went on a 3 day cruise on inspiration Aug. 24th out of Long Beach. We walked on the boat and asked an employee standing just inside with a red shirt that read "Just Ask". I asked him if we could get in our stateroom since we paid for FTTF. He said I don't know and turned away. So I asked another person with the same shirt and got another I don't know!. So we continued walking and found another staff member same shirt. Finally he said of course let me take you to your stateroom. Second day we went on a spa tour which was awesome. 2 of us signed up for yoga the next morning at 8am for an additional charge of $12 and Massages. We woke up early decided to go to the stretch class. We walked in the gym looked for staff for directions and a gentleman with a badge just pointed and stated in there. No good morning or welcome. He proceeded to walk in the room grabbed a mat started cleaning it. 1 other person arrived. He never spoke nor did he give directions. I asked do we need a mat. He said yes. The he proceeded to tell us our mats were laid down wrong. We quickly moved our mats around. He asked if anyone had any health issues which I told him some shoulder issues. He started the stretches on the floor. When we got up on our knees I groaned and said it hurt my knees. He yelled at me that he asked if we had issues and why didn't I tell him. My knees hurt due to the horribly thin mats. I got very upset and left the Class. We did have the very best room steward that was very nice. Our dining room staff was the most friendly and helpful. We had a very nice cocktail waiter named Moises. He was the most friendly and caring guy on the entire cruise. He made sure we were taken care of everyday not just with cocktails. Overall the cruise was fun. Cabin was on Empress deck near the lobby so it was very noisy until around midnight. Loved The FTTF pass helped with all the lines. We did anytime dining and never waited more than 10 minutes for a table. Ty the money guy was awesome and funny. Read Less

We normally cruise with Princess where we are Platinum, but have been on 2 other Carnival cruises and the dates matched better for us on this trip. Four day Baja Mexico cruise out of Long Beach. Embarkation was good, but we didn't see anywhere to deposit luggage. Found out later it was a level below, but no signs anywhere to let you know that. (if you park in garage) So we ended up bringing luggage along. Given how many other people were doing the same, seems we were not the only ones who had this problem. Cabin was great, it was an outside cabin. But, when we arrived our cabin steward stated we had a choice of 0900 or 1600 for our cabin to be cleaned. Neither time was good, since we might like to sleep late, and 4:00pm is when your coming back from shore excursions and getting ready for dinner. We said 4:00pm as the lesser of the evils. But this time was so bad for us that out of four days we only got our cabin cleaned one time. Had the DND sign on the door since on the other days we were using the cabin at 4:00pm. I wonder when Carnival changed the policy, as it wasn't like this on our prior cruises and Princess cleans the cabin when your out, in fact they tidied up twice a day. This was the most disappointing feature of the cruise and while our steward did a great job on the one day - the restrictive time for cabin cleaning spoiled the other three days. Entertainment was great, loved the comedian and even the musical shows. Food was good, no complaints other than normal long lines at peek times and this cruise was fully booked and being winter school break there we a large amount of children. Had dinner in the dining room one time, and service was very slow and mis-timed; opted for buffet the rest of the cruise. Food was good, but service slow and wife's main course was served about 15 minutes before mine. Timing was just way off. Had to ask for water refills every time. Found myself constantly comparing Carnival to Princess which was probably un-fair, but drinks would be topped off before they got empty over on Princess. The "Guy" burgers were outstanding and the best of any cruise we have taken, a huge bravo-zulu to Carnival on the high quality and wide variety of toppings available. Disembarkation was the best we have ever had out of a dozen cruises we have been on. I timed it, from notice of our time slot to putting luggage in trunk was 20 minutes, the fastest ever. And we didn't even have the benefit of Platinum status on Carnival. Well done. We bought a shore excursion, but because wife wasn't feeling 100% we didn't use it and stayed onboard. Overall, there were great things and some bad things - out of our many cruises - this one just seemed average. We are back with Princess for our next 7 day cruise in April and Alaska will certainly be Princess next summer. Read Less

My husband and I wanted to get away since our kids were out of town. We were first time cruisers and had no idea what to expect. When we arrived everyone was friendly and tried to be helpful. ( Most frustrating part was getting 10 different answers from 10 different people) Although everyone was quiet friendly, no one seemed to know what they were talking about. I managed to set off the fire alarm in our room because of a hot shower. I was told (like I should of known) that I should of kept the bathroom door shut after a shower. I had no idea and there is no information on that. The remote control in the room was partially melted and worked when it wanted to. The rest of the room was clean. There is only one plug in for a phone so my husband and I had to rotate. Pool is extremely small and for the day at sea, extremely over crowded. My husband and I wanted to relax in the Jacuzzi but they were packed to the brim like sardines. We asked if there was an adults only pool and were told yes, to head out to Serenity. It ended up also being 2 Jacuzzi's filled to the brim and no pool. We left to play Bingo and spent the money for what we thought would be a couple hours to kill. You spend quite a bit of money on Bingo cards for 3 games. Wish we would of saved our money. It was a waste of time. Man in charge of Bingo was fun and nice! Food was good, lines went quickly and areas were clean. We went to the comedy club and had a good time just relaxing and laughing. (Kids were allowed at 2 shows and kicked out the last 2) I forget his name but the gentleman who was in charge of our room was very kind and friendly and called us by name! He was GREAT! We went into Ensenada and did not make any reservations through Carnival. Glad we didn't, it was so much cheaper to book things there through the locals. They are ready to take your money but come through on getting you where you need to be. We want to come again and bring our children. Maybe we won't care as much about things if we are busy with them and we just noticed more because it was quiet with just the two of us. As I stated, the welcoming crew was great! When you leave, not so much. They herd you like cattle and one man stopped to tie his shoe and got yelled at like he was in a Nazi prison camp. I couldn't even believe it. The lady was SO rude. I understand keeping the line moving, but there are some circumstances you have to stop. It almost felt like..... We got your money now get off our boat. Read Less

Fun quick cruise out of Long Beach. The cruise was what we expected it to be based on our research beforehand. Getting on the ship was so simple. One grip is that they did not have anyone outside the elevators at the parking garage telling us where to drop of our bags, so we got all the way to the security checkpoint before someone told us we were supposed to drop them inside the garage on the bottom level. This is an area you don't see if you come down the elevator. Once we dropped off our bags, we went straight through the check-in line and were on board within 15 minutes total. The entertainment was really lacking compared to other cruises we have been on. We were able to directly compare to our last cruise considering they did the exact same shows we saw on the previous cruise. The food was pretty normal for what we have had on previous cruises, however the service in the dining rooms was a bit lacking. It appeared as if the waiters were so stressed with all the people they had to handle that they were not too interested in you directly. I highly recommend getting a burger from Guy's Burger Joint, they are so good. We were able to have a lot of fun wandering around and up on the top deck playing mini golf. This is definitely a cruise where you create your own fun and entertainment, don't expect the staff to do it for you. If you are good with that, you will have a good time on this cruise. Read Less
