We travelled on Viking 3 years ago and our friends have heard all the stories. 2 of them asked if we wanted to go again with them from Budapest to Amsterdam and there was no hesitation, we accepted. Our only problem was getting to Budapest, we were delayed leaving by 2 hours due to weather, and so missed our connection but we were rebooked on 2 new connections and arrived only 4 hours later than scheduled, though our luggage didn’t make it. No problem, the front desk was on it, I was on it from another angle and by morning we had our bags. The crew was fantastic. They got us robes, slippers, and toiletries as we didn’t know if/when the bags would show up. They also threw in free laundry while the bags were missing, though we didn’t need it in the end. Viking cabins are small, even the “larger” cabins, but that's OK because you are not in there except to sleep, change clothes, and shower. The lounge and sun deck are where most time is spent when on board and are more than adequate for the 190 or so guests on a full cruise. We had 178 on ours, which included a crew from Discovery Channel doing a show on our ship, to be aired in the fall. We were on the top deck of rooms and had a balcony, barely wide enough for a chair but still useable. We tried to sit at the same table every night or close by so that our wait staff could get to know us, and they did. Always friendly, efficient, and eager to get something for us. The food was very good and reasonable portions, though our chef tended to make dry cakes and other baked desserts. A fellow passenger mentioned it to him and he ignored her, blamed it on the recipes, yeah right. The bartenders in the lounge were also excellent. The waiters in the lounge were mixed. One lady and one guy were good but the others were hit or miss, frequently miss. Get to know your bartenders, you might find free wine/beer times with lunch and dinner get extended a bit and if you get them to join in late night dancing, they can be really fun and generous on your next pour of a drink at the bar. I usually don’t go for a lot of the entertainment, but it wasn’t bad and several local entertainers were brought on to give us local tastes in music or activities. There was a free walking tour included at every stop, which we found adequate. Our friends did some extra excursions that they enjoyed, but one of them was 4 hours each way on a bus so it was a long day for them whereas we relaxed after our walk and enjoyed the scenery and the quiet. We booked the trip a year in advance, and did get a more expensive room, but it was worth it. Breaking it down to a daily cost and remembering that our air fare was included, it wasn't that bad for a 2 week cruise that included excursions, food and some drinks, travel to each port, and hotel all on 1 ship. We each got a $100 voucher for another cruise, which turns into a $200 on board credit when we use it. No expiration date, transferable or refundable. You can’t go wrong. Also, nobody under 18 on board, so it's quieter than some cruises we have been on. My favorite? Cruising the Wachau Valley and the Rhine with all the castles, almost a new castle around every curve on the Rhine. DW Read Less

My partner was a "newbie" and not sure that he would like a cruise. So, our friends and I suggested a Viking River Cruise and it proved to be an excellent introduction to the cruising experience. The cruise itself is a premium experience. We sailed from Budapest to Amsterdam and everything conspired to make it a memorable trip, including the weather. The cities along the route were all interesting and the included excursions were well-passed and staffed by locals who knew their locations intimately. The ship was top-notch, with excellent dining choices and pleasant on-board entertainment. One highlight was the cruise through the Wachau Valley of the Rhine where, for 4.5 hours, we sailed past many river towns and hilltop fortresses and castles with a delightful intermittent commentary by the program director. My partner is now ready to try a sea cruise, though he still wants to stay close to land. So, we're considering a North Sea cruise. Read Less

We decided to take this cruise because our experience on our trip through Russia was so positive. On that cruise we were a group of 6 and here just my husband and I . It was a very different experience. The most remarkable was meeting another couple who got married the same date we did, December 14, 1968. Never before had we found that. The ship is rather comfortable but when the upper deck is closed for 5 days, it curtails the possibility of pleasant outdoors accommodations. Smokers in Europe are a problem. On board, they were very unpleasant to have around. If you went outside to enjoy the view and the weather, there always was someone ruining the air by the smell of their smoke. The shore excursions were mostly a pleasure. Most guides were excellent but not all. If we could comment about them at the end of the day, our recollection could be much more accurate. The upholstery in the gathering lounge is not real leather and I found myself stuck to the furniture anytime it was hot. All in all, we signed up for another cruise in the future so we were not unhappy:) Read Less

The cruise was very enjoyable - staff of the ship was top notch. State rooms were clean, well designed with great attention to detail. Service was excellent. Food was good. We really enjoyed our wait staff. They were friendly, helpful and all-around wonderful. Shore excursions were well organized and the local guides were, for the most part, interesting and well informed. We felt rushed at some locations such as busy museums and palaces. There was no time to stop and admire displays as the guides were rushing everyone through. The audio equipment worked well but some guides were a bit hard to understand. The biggest disappointment was no reliable WiFi on the ship. Viking should not advertise having it as it almost never worked. They really need to fix it or set the expectations correctly. The only way to get online was to find places with WiFi during port stops which wasn't always easy. Read Less

The staff was so personable. It was like being at a B&B. The service was second to none. I would highly recommend Viking to anyone . We liked it so much we already booked another river cruise next year for our 30th wedding anniversary. The thing we like most about this cruise was the size. It was nice and small. We weren’t a number. The staff always addressed us by name. We went on the Tulip and Windmills cruise. The gardens were stunning. We even had the opportunity to visit a home . That was wonderful. We thought our cruise director was just wonderful. She really made this trip. If one decides to book a Viking cruise you won’t be disappointed . Read Less

We chose this cruise from friends referrals and we corroborated their comments by taken the cruise. We are very happy with the experience and we also would recommend it to our friends and family. The excursions were very well guided and planned to perfection, on all the details and guides very well informed. Your on board crew members, were very good trained and that was reflected in their professionalism. The cabins are very comfortable and with plenty of space for comfort. Dining was excellent and the culinary aspects superb. Entertaining was very good and your PR lady well trained to conduct such job. We expect to sail in other cruise very soon and definitely will be on Viking Cruises. To finish the embarkation and disembarkation well planned and as a consequence very smooth. Again the crew members were outstanding. Before the cruise we explore the city of Amsterdam for two days and we were very much impressed with the buildings and and the environment in general. The trip was called Tulips and Windmills and included much more. My wife was more interested in the tulips and I was more interested in the windmills and technology. However the historical sights we visited were of great interest to both of us. It was a good mix of tours and times to rest and relax. There was some WWII history and some medieval history in the mix. The tour guides were excellent. They were knowledgeable and interacted well. It was always comfortable and friendly. The meals and menu selections were excellent. The chef specials at dinner were excellent as were the wine choices. Dessert was always tasty. We enjoyed the fact that dinner was casual plus but not dress up. It was the right mix for a trip that featured tours and walking in the morning and either an afternoon trip or relaxing in the afternoon. One of the best parts was the people we met. It seemed like everyone we met shipboard was friendly and engaging. A great part of that was the crew who was so pleasant that you could not help but feel that you were all welcome. In discussion one of them mentioned that he had started with another cruise line and had worked his way up to get to being a Viking member. There was pride in the company. The cruise director, Kane Davies, was extremely competent and had the knack of making everyone feel that they were important. We'd love to have him again and we are saving up for another cruise. We truly enjoyed our cruise but were very glad we brought along three things: a deck of cards, raincoats, and our dear friends. The ship, staff, and food is all great. The itinerary was fine. The problem we had was at just over 50 years old we were the second and third youngest on the ship (a daughter who went with her parents beat us for youngest). By far. This meant that all excursions were with a more “senior” group-lots of bathroom stops and endless questions. Please, please, please Viking-have an app for each city so that not everyone has to be in groups. This is not difficult nor expensive technology! This also meant meals and entertainment was always with “seniors”. Believe me when I say by 9pm (no typo) the ship was asleep! We got to know the excellent bartenders. They could not have gone out of their way, been more professional, or more fun. Besides the tulips they were the highlight! We had ordered the beverage package (order before you leave US or it is more expensive) so the bar tenders knew us well. There was nothing they wouldn’t get us-even at dinner they brought wine “they thought we would like better and enjoy”. Terrific. Unfortunately, we were not docked in downtown Amsterdam. We were about 15 min away in at a very industrial dock. So much for the view from our veranda! However, this also was a hassle for us because we like to do things on our own (a huge shock to the crew who could not believe we would rent bikes, see the tulips, go to dinner, go to Belgium all on our own). This meant cabs or taking the shuttle bus offered. Not convenient but it is in your brochure literature- not that that makes you feel better when spending so much money on a cruise. We were there for peak tulips. They were fantastic! We know we were very lucky. We also decided since tulips have a kind of their own we would arrive in Amsterdam early with the pre cruise package at the Hilton near the museums. We also planned it so we would be there for the tulip parade (trust me when I say it is quaint and nice but the Rose Bowl has nothing to ever worry about. We were glad we went but could have missed it and not been sad. It is quite small by US standards. Think garbage trucks and delivery trucks with flowers on them. Four or five great floats and the rest ...well, let’s just say it is nothing I would plan a vacation around. We rented bikes outside Kuekenhoff and it was a breeze and lots of fun). We were VERY glad we had seen the ore our cruise. We saw them on a picture perfect day (go as early as you can as it gets very, very crowded. I think we saw a thousand buses...not kidding) and took tons of pictures. On the day we saw them with our cruise it was cloudy, rainy, and the flowers were just a tad past peak. We felt quite smart for our planning and quite sad for the people on our cruise! We used Uber to get to the gardens and I think it was 35 Euros for the four of us (don’t try getting back by Uber after the big aparade....trust me when I tell you it took hours- luckily, there was a pub ). We thought the entertainment on the ship that was local and brought on board was really, really good. Unfortunately, the nightly entertainment wasn’t the best. Sweet couple but again-sang songs for those of the crowd that were 75 plus. We played cards. A lot! Food was quite good. Interesting and varied. They tried local food and wine as much as possible. I appreciated that. My husband loved going to the battlefields (I went to the Kroller Muller and ended it) and thouhgt the local guides excellent. We loved Hoorn, learning about the levies, home stay (we brought a small gift-do as our hosts were delighted), tulip fields, biking, guy who made wooden shoes and the farm visit, music, wine, cheese, chocolate, All in all, we really liked the cruise. Our weather could have been better but it was April in the Netherlands. We have talked with others that have done Viking cruises And they all say to try again. They also say that this cruise tends to skew “older”. Even Viking says that. Yes, yes it does! The thing is-you don’t go far on these river cruises. You can drive in a short amount of time. With that in mind it is the service, views, food, etc that matter. Unfortunately for us, we really couldn’t use our Veranda (I wouldn’t bother except that we were on the same floor as everything which was great) and only went on the top deck once. I guess my only other pet Viking peave is the tipping. For the love of Goodness Viking-just pay your guides a little more and do away with tipping. It is most annoying! I’d rather my cruise be $50 more and not to have to worry about bringing Euros to tip the tour guides. Plus, it is very awkward as some people tip and others don’t. Ok one more thing....Viking likes to cruise at nigh because then their guests have longer in port. Which is true. However, when you dream of your Viking cruise after seeing thousands of tv commercials you do think you’ll have more time relaxing on the ship as it motors along. You don’t really on this cruise. And the ports are very industrial. Not the quaint town ports you dream about either. Read Less

A friend took the same river cruise earlier in 2017 and told us about his great experience so we decided to take the same cruise. We were glad we did. the ship, crew, dinning, entertainment, service and accommodations were super. Better than we could have imagined. Entertainment on board was great. The ports and excursions were spectacular. We added some additional excursions after our trip began. The only drawback we encountered was that some guides did not want to be filmed. I'm a videographer and two of the guides on our trip did not wish to be on camera (they didn't same why). However, they did not have a problem with other guests in our group using the cell phone to shoot video. There problem seemed to be that I was using a professional 4k camera. Except for the one drawback with the use of a video camera, everything else was great. My wife and I are currently looking over Viking Cruises for this year. Since my wife is still working, finding a cruise date when she gets her vacation is a challenge. We have told many of our friends about our Viking River Cruise and several have expressed their interest in taking a Viking Cruise. Read Less

My husband, my sister-in-law and her husband and I, chose the Grand European River Cruise so that we could see ports the way the ancient merchants did. My travel companions had all been to Europe before, and saw places that they'd never been as well as a few they were delighted to visit again. Viking Cruises gave me my first European experience, and I was entranced by the beauty of Hungary, Austria, Germany and the Netherlands. Layers of history were peeled aside at each town and city by friendly tour guides, creating a desire in all of us to learn more. Traveling by cruise ship was an unexpected delight. It was freeing to visit so many places without dragging our luggage to each one. After a long day of exploration, we were absolutely pampered by Viking staff with delicious gourmet meals and a glass of wine. We could relax with new friends, entertained by the excellent "Jazz Bites" duo, or retire to our attractive stateroom, kept fresh and clean daily. Luxury accommodations, served meals, and having someone do the itinerary planning for you are all wonderful things, but without a stellar staff, such as we had aboard the Viking Gefjon, none of that would matter! Thank you Attila, Zeljko, Dejan, Stanislava, Marvin, Alan, Petar, among so many others, for making my first trip to Europe so memorable! Read Less

We have just returned from our Viking Grand European Tour from Amsterdam to Budapest, with 2 additional days each in Amsterdam and Prague.. We departed on September 5, 2017 and returned on the 25th. This was a celebration of our 50th wedding anniversary We chose Viking because of their fine reputation and ship size. There were 186 passengers with a ship staff of 52. Most passengers are aged 45+ and the ships, tours, and staff are designed for that age group. From the first day to the last, this trip was nothing short of magnificent. From our arrival in Amsterdam to our departure from Prague the Viking staff was there to assist us and attend to our needs and comfort. Viking exudes “attention to detail.” At all stages of this trip our luggage was handled in an expeditious manner, whether from arriving at the airport, to the Hilton (Amsterdam), to the ship, to the Corinthia (Prague), to the airport . Not one problem. We could write a book on the ship and staff but, suffice to say, it could not fully describe this great experience. Nothing was overlooked. The staff could not do enough for each and every guest. Breakfast a morning joy. Lunch was a daily treat. Evening dinner was a delightful culinary experience. Prior to dinner, we enjoyed time in the lounge. Just about any beverage you would ask for was available (suggestion - purchase the drink package). In addition, there was always some special treat being served. Every evening there was a briefing on the next days activities, that evenings dinner choices, and post-dinner activities. There were a number of interesting programs and lectures which were offered to the guests Side-tours: many are included and many are at additional cost. We did both and were completely satisfied with Viking’s professional guides. Lots of walking so wear comfortable shoes. Important – the tours are designed from easy to somewhat strenuous so read the tour descriptions carefully. Weather – nature is in charge. This may sound minor, but Viking supplies great umbrellas. Clothing – We made the error of bringing way too much. We discovered that 95% of the men and women wore jeans or other comfortable garb. There were no formal evenings. Finally, repeat all the above. This is not a fan fair cruise, like you would get on the Giant overloaded 3500 people Cruise Ships. The good thing is that Viking does not advertise it as that. They are advertising a relaxing, do as you please and enjoy with option that you can or not take. The Cruise line can not control when the Water is high and they have to close the upper deck, just like big ships can't control hurricanes or bad weather that comes up. So get used to it. The ship has Room for up to 180 guest, they have a crew of 60, so every guest is well taken care of by the second day the staff will know your name and your likes and dislikes.that is not necessarily the case with a crew of a 1000 on the big ships . The food is excellent, with a mix of food for all cultures likes, served in the main dining room or in the Veranda lounge, again the attention to details by the Staff is second to non they all do multiple jobs in order for you to enjoy this relaxing getaway, plus free beer and wine during the assigned dinning hours. You will not get that on the giant Bucket ships, you're one of many, just a number. Are the rooms on the smaller side, yes but not any different then the big ships or some overpriced Hotels as far as that goes. No this is not a cruise for kids, take them on the big ships where there is plenty for them to do and experience. So get of your horse and enjoy the world of river cruising. As a side note I have been on 25 cruises around the world and the river cruising is the best way to relax and enjoy. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my Thoughts. Read Less

River cruising is intimate and relaxing. I would have liked the top deck to be open more but with the locks and bridges that was not possible. The on ship entertainment was nice, the food and service in the dining room was topnotch. The daily tours were informative and the tour guides had a good command of the English language, were always knowledgeable and eager to share with us their area knowledge of the area. I liked that there was always a tour group that went at a slower pace for the individuals who were not able to physically keep up, there were quite a few people with walking aids on the trip and they were treated the same as the other guests and had the same opportunities for the tours as the others due to having the slower paced group. I always kidding with friends anyone book a river cruise and I will join them I got the call come join us and we did! This was the best itinerary covered all the ports we wanted. Took a day or two to understand this was different kind of trip. All the planning is done- you just enjoy! Embarkation was super easy we had Viking air & were met at the airport and take to the ship. Our cabin was ready for us and nice surprise. We had a quick snack upstairs and off to explore the city with the local guide from Viking. We learned that you must follow the times for meals or not eat. there is no anytime buffet but there were cookies and hot drinks. Most of the local guides were good and we learned a lot. visited many churches on our own. One thing we sis realize was that we were in certain towns on Sunday and that on those days nothing was open. I would make sure that next time not to spend a Sunday in Cologne. we took the optional Rothenburg ob der Tauber tour and it was the best! Highly recommend! We also did the tour with Ship Chief to the marketplace so much fun!. German night on the ship was amazing! We were told that the river was very low and we would be portaging around but We were lucky not to have to change ships to the Ve half way thu. Our Cruise Director David was always where you need him. We would stay after the tours in the city and then have to find the meeting place for bus back to the ship and He was there very time to assure us we were in the right place. Debarking from the ship was easy but Budapest airport not so much. terrible long lines to check in-- the flight was late which didn't give us much time to connect in Amsterdam. Next time I would ask for more connection time. I would definitely book again with Viking! Read Less

This was our first river cruise as we had previously enjoyed four ocean cruises with another cruise line. The itinerary of this cruise really appealed to us and it didn't disappoint. We chose not to use Viking air and booked our own air from IAD to Budapest flying KLM, it was a direct flight and we were impressed with their service. We also chose not to book with Viking for our pre and post travel hotels. Embarkation was smooth and we were immediately impressed with the service. Shout out to David, Chef Joey, Alan the maitre de, Dylon(sp) the bar tender and Stephan one of the many outstanding servers. I was impressed with all the tours and how smoothly everything ran. The only negative was we had purchased a cabin with a balcony and really couldn't use it due to the way Viking docks at most ports. I called customer service today and they issues us a credit, class organization. The cabin was much smaller than on the ocean lines, but comfortable, clean and plenty of storage room for the 15 day cruise. Loved the heated floors in the bathroom. The food was much better than on the ocean cruises and this includes the speciality dining. We enjoyed the guest lectures, the entertainers they brought on board as well as the father/daughter duo that sang in the lounge. We had 185 people on board but it seemed like even fewer than that given the outstanding service. We are already looking to book another cruise. Read Less

The itineraries and destinations were all places that I wanted to see. One of the highlights is actually one of the more simple things though- the scenic cruising days that we would spend on the sun deck sailing past castle after castle in the warm sunshine. Everyone that worked on the ship was amazing and had my name memorized which was awesome. I miss them very much! Don't get me started on the food. I was so spoilt! It was often difficult to choose from the options on the menu because they all sounded good. We loved the complimentary coffee/hot chocolate and cookie station. We often helped ourselves to a nice hot chocolate and cookie then would go back to the room and watch episode after episode of Downton Abbey on the very nice flatscreen tv's. Nicer than the tv in my house! As was the heated floor in the bathroom. I might have enjoyed myself too much. Made a lot of friends. Unforgettable trip. Read Less

In a word, Viking River Cruises on the Amterdam-Budapest route is awesome. Opportunities for pre-sail stopover and post-sailing stopover, and spending extra days in the port of embarkation and debarkation. Staff was fabulous. The included tours were by and large 4.7 out of 5.0; a couple fell short of expectation, but perhaps that is because the others were so excellent. Optional tours were educational, plentiful and entertaining. Port-to-land tour coordination was smooth. The ship's dining between the restaurant and the alternative lighter fare was ideal... all items available were prepared well, were reflective of the areas in which the longship cruised, and were well presented. Evening entertainment was fine. The glimses into area history and into the ship operations (and lock operation) were insightful. Reception staff and cabin staff were first-rate. It was interesting that Viking placed crew members with some tour groups... this permitting not only their being better able to interact with passengers by gaining more knowledge of area history and culture, but by permitting a social discourse between passengers and staff on a more personal level than server and served. Well done. Read Less

We are not into cruising but the concept of a river cruise where everyday you were in a different town with planned excursions appealed to me. I also did not have high expectations of the cruise itself thinking it would be like riding a Greyhound Bus because of all of Viking's advertising. The cruise blew me away. It was way beyond my expectations. Five stars are not enough to describe it. From the ship, to the crew, to meals, to the daily excursions..........all were well beyond first class. The ship was high tech and wonderfully appointed. The crew was genuine and sincere in it's treatment of all "explorers". The meals were five star, gourmet. The included and optional excursions had wonderful guides that provided a local perspective to the areas toured. I can not think of anyway to make the Viking Grand European Cruise any better. I would recommend Viking and the Grand European Cruise to all. It is worth every dollar it cost. Read Less

It was both a birthday and wedding anniversary celebration. We wanted it to be special but did not want to share it with thousands of people. The service, tours, food, and fellow passengers insured we had a great and memorable time. We were very impressed by the professionalism and friendliness of the staff, from the captain down to the waiters. The Entertainment Director did an outstanding job of making sure the excursions and tours were on-time and interesting. We also appreciated the "open seating" policy that allowed us to meet different fellow travelers throughout the cruise. We found the food and drink delightful, and enjoyed the extra effort to relate it to the areas we were cruising though. If we had to do it over we would only change one aspect of the trip. The cabin was easy to live in and housekeeping was excellent. Food was great with a lot of choices. As a picky eater I was fearful but should not have been. The only risk was eating too much. The port excursions were well organized and the tour guides were excellent. I really enjoyed the mix of type of excursions--small towns, larger cities, castles and churches. There was also enough free time to do some exploring on our own. There was live music in the lounge every night and the on-board talks and demos were very interesting, especially the one by the captain about his ship. Service was excellent and everyone was fluent in English. The staff truly tried to get to know us and adapted their style formal/informal to make us the most comfortable. The beauty of the rivers and canals was truly unforgettable. I'd take the trip again, but only after trying some other Viking river cruises. Read Less

We moved into a community of active cruisers. Having never river cruised, they explained what we were missing, and the Viking Gefjon cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam proved them right! From the welcoming at the airport, outstanding hotel for our pre-cruise stay, to the final sad moment of heading home, their attention to detail, and our happiness, never diminished. Our 3rd floor balcony cabin was cozy yet comfortable and any extra request was completed by Monika with a warm smile. After a day, staff greeted us by name and so began the feeling of extended family that spread to all on board. Having only 190 passengers made dining and excursion adventures delightful! The menu was exceptional, and we particularly enjoyed the local cuisine and wine pairing. Stephan, Stephan, and Lucia were always ready with tempting options from the bar! The staff, from captain, Sam delightful cruise director, to head chef (who took us to the local outdoor market) and all others, were the best coordinated cruise team we have experienced in our 34 years of cruising! We were quite impressed with the quality of the included excursions, giving you options for additional tours, or time to cruise the beautiful towns and meet the locals (and taste the great beers)! Truthfully, it will be quite hard to return to big ships! We will certainly be enjoying more Viking cruises. Thank you Viking Gefjon for making our first river cruise spectacular ❣️ Read Less

We had such a great time. The crew/staff were exceptional and went out of their way to make our trip even better. The tours were all great and very informative and the additional excursions were well worth the price. We truly had a great time and the pace of the cruise was perfect, love being able to do everything or nothing. In my opinion it's what a vacation is supposed to be. The food was good, the laundry service was great, loved the snacks after dinner. The cruise director was perfect. He was so personable he made the cruise even better. We enjoyed the tour of kitchen and the pilot house. We also did a three day extension prior to our cruise and it was so worth it. We went to Prague and fell in love with the city. However, there was no air conditioning at the hotel, apparently they were working on the system and it was extremely hot. Read Less

Wanted to see Europe, after having avoided it to visit more exotic places( Tibet, Mongolia, China, India and most of Southeast Asia and Africa). Decided to try Viking after advertisements on PBS. The shore excursions were very interesting, the guides were great. Use of the ear pieces made hearing the descriptions of various sites valuable. I would highly recommend Viking to anyone. From the captain to the cabin crew, everyone was outstanding. The meals were delicious. The wine and beer included at lunch and dinner were excellent choices especially for the areas we were visiting. Open seating for lunch and dinner were conducive to meeting a lot of different people and led to very interesting conversations. The cabin was comfortable, always clean and well-kept. Free Wi Fi made it easy to stay in touch with family. I have nothing negative to say about my experience. I wish I had the wherewithal to take even more excursions with Viking. Read Less

We chose to cruise on Viking because of our dear friends' recommendation. They had a wonderful experience, and since we share common interests and values, we thought we would as well. We chose wisely. This voyage on the Viking Gefjon was the trip of a lifetime. From the moment the Viking staff met us at Budapest airport, everything was delivered with excellence and friendliness. Our stateroom was beautiful and spacious enough to afford plenty of storage and comfort. The steward who cleaned our room several times a day was so efficient and helpful, it was hard to say, "Goodbye," to him on our last day. The staff on the Viking Gefjon led by our program director, Sam, is unmatched I am sure. There was a chemistry among the staff that spilled on over to the guests; we all had a golden time together. The food was delicious and varied. There was always a choice of eating either in the terrace restaurant or the dining room - and sometimes it was hard to choose, both were such lovely settings with great food. The shore excursions were handled in such an organized manner. It was impressive. Each of the guides knew so much history and were so proficient in English. They were passionate about their villages and towns and countries. We learned so much history from all of them. The on board entertainment was lovely; there was always something to do. Watching the beautiful European countryside go by from the sun deck was a highlight for me, but it was also fun and relaxing sitting on our veranda as well. As soon as we arrived back home, we started dreaming of our next Viking cruise. I am excited to travel again, but this experience will be hard to beat. Thank you Viking Gefjon staff! Read Less
