We were really looking forward to this, our second Viking cruise (Basel to North Sea / Rhine Getaway). It didn't meet our hopes in almost any way. Get up early, walking tour of a town or city for 2-3 hours, back to the ship for lunch, then sit around all afternoon or pay for an extra excursion. Not exactly 'all included' , not even close. If you took all of the extra cost afternoon tours, you would spend about $800 per person more than the initial cost. Disappointing food, also. Hard to see how 'spring rolls' or 'sauteed chinese egg noodles' fit into a menu in Germany. But, there was very little 'german' themed food. Another disappointment overall, and a major Viking failure. Viking could have, and should have, done a much better job with this presumably popular cruise. No need to rush around in the morning if there is no included activity in the afternoon. Since this is a cruise, why was most all of the 'cruising' at night when guests were asleep. Only 2 days of daytime cruising. Overall, we felt rushed throughout for no good reason. Read Less

This was our first cruise of any kind and, overall, we were very happy. Because of low water conditions we were forced on two occasions to transit by bus, once to change vessels from Lofn to Vidar and once to hotel accomodation in Budapest. We found the guides on all shore excursions to be very knowledgable and quite entertaining. The crew of the Lofn was outstanding - service was excellent and very prompt, attentive and considerate. While the crew of the Vidar was good, there was a noticable drop off in service quality. The same can be said of the quality of the food - outstanding on the Lofn; materially less good on Vidar. All things considered, the arrangements for the transfer from Lofn to Vidar were handled very well. However, we were not happy with the hotel arrangements in Budapest. The hotel was located away from, and with no convenient access to, the city centre. Our luggage was misplaced. While a meal credit was provided for dinner in the hotel restaurant, the service was extraordinarily bad and we, along with several other guests from the cruise, eventually gave up and walked out. Other than the hotel bar, there were no other' dining' options. With luggage having to be made available in the hallway at 2 am and a 4 am departure for the airport, our stay in Budapest left us bored, hungry and exhausted. As a result of the foregoing, our ratings for the have been reduced from what would otherwise have been 'excellent' to 'average' to 'very good' in a number of categories. Read Less

Staff was beyond wonderful. They were always upbeat and helpful. One night my husband forgot to check in that he was on board. I was in the cabin asleep and one of the staff called to see if he was in the room. I freaked out because I knew we were sailing at that point. My husband however is always very punctual and I was worried something had happened to him. The staff person called me back to let me know he was with the guys on the top deck. I was so impressed and of course very relieved. Food was fantastic. I did gain the 10 pounds they promised. My big disappointment though was that we did not dock close to towns. We did in Passau and a couple of others only. It was over 100 degrees quite a few days and I would have liked rather than going on tours to be able to walk into town and come back when I wanted. Other Viking ships docked closer to towns. If there was a reason for this I would have appreciated knowing. Friends of ours who were on the Grand European from Budapest to Amsterdam at the same time we were stopped at docks in the towns. The tours we took were wonderful. The Kinderdik windmill stop was much better than the last time we stopped on a different brand of cruise ship. We got to go inside one and have demonstrations by the windmill keeper who even wore wooden shoes. To sum up I love Viking but since being able to get off the ship and walk around is important to me, I am not sure what I will do the next time we take a river cruise. I don't know if I can find out where the boat will dock- next to towns or not. Read Less

We were asked to join some family members on this cruise, so we did not do a lot of research prior. We travel a great deal & love cruising. The positives: Viking Lofn is a beautiful ship, the food was excellent, as were most of the staff. We had Peter as our waiter, & he was just exceptional. The negatives: 1- though the Rhine is beautiful, many of the ports are far from where the excursions take you. Lots of time on a bus which we found tiresome. Also up & out early almost every morning. 2- we did the pre cruise in Lucerne. Though Viking says you will wait no longer than 30 minutes for transport, we waited an hour. Ugh! 3- upon arrival at our hotel, the room was not ready, which was understandable since it was only 10 am. We told the Viking rep our plans for the day, & supposedly he was unaware that upon check in we would receive a Lucerne pass which discounts boats rides. Ugh again! We would have saved $60!!! 4- while most cruises give an itinerary ((time arriving to / leaving port), Viking seems to keep this a secret. I tried to inquire re: time we would be transported from Lucerne to Basel (embarkation port). My agent said after breakfast, which could be a wide range. Someone else said 9:30 am, & if we took the excursion to Mt. Titlis - we would leave at 9:30 & arrive to the ship at 3 pm with ample time to enjoy Basel. That then changed to leaving Lucerne at 4 pm, arriving to the ship at 5:30, & we missed the port of Basel altogether!, 5- we bought watches in Switzerland & were told the boat would stamp the VAT form since that's how we were leaving Switzerland! Wrong again! 6- I'd be wary of paying for a veranda. We did & Viking states that the view may be occasionally blocked. Ours was blocked 4 out of 7 days by another boat! Rip off!! 7- we were told the trip to Brugge (post cruise) was 2 hours. Well our bus ride turned into 5! Guess the bus driver knew no other way than to sit in traffic. We were also told that there would be nice stops along the way. Ours was a highway rest stop! Luckily the trip ended nicely. The hotel - Dukes Palace, & the Viking rep Annie, in Brugge, were both gems! 8- we also were not told that the ship would arrive in Amsterdam 2 AM. So by taking the post to Brugge, we missed that port too. Read Less

My wife and I had a very nice cruise on the Viking Lofn in June, 2019. The staff were excellent, although we had to grin at the cruise director's obvious over-hype on occasion. We had one management level staff member in the dining area seem to "put down" a guest at our table when she ordered a steak rather than the suggested entre- that didn't set well with any of us who heard his statement about "Americans." (He did apologize to her the next day at dinner.) Honestly, the food was good, but not great in our opinion. We've had better. As an example, the scnitzel we had at a nice restaurant in Rudesheim au Rhine was much better than the one we had on the Lofn; twice as large, very tender, with fries and a nice salad- all for less than $12 US. The tours were very nice, but felt rushed. Occasionally we had time to spend on our own, but nof often. My Black Forest hike lasted all of 30 minutes, yet the bus ride there was 2 hours round-trip. Our tour of Marksburg castle was limited by the many other tours on-site. We rarely had more than a few minutes in a room or location, We did get a few minutes at the end of our tour to buy a Coke and sit on a bench. We don't blame Viking for this at all; there were hundreds of tourists on-site while we were there. The Bruhl tour was fine, but understand that one cannot take any photos of the beautiful interiors of the castle or hunting lodge. One must buy postcards of the interiors. I could add more to this review, but won't. We had a very nice time. Will we do it again? No, we won't. Are we glad we did it, yes. Viking did a very good job. The staff onboard, with one exception, was superb. The Rhine Getaway should have been a 10-day trip in our opinion, Thank you to Viking, the staff of the Lofn, Viking's staff in Amsterdam (where we took a wonderful 2-day pre-cruise stay at the Pulitzer Amsterdam) and all the tour guides. We would rate this cruise a solid four of five. Read Less

I chose this cruise so my wife and I could spend some time with our daughter and her family after the cruise in Basel. All-in-all we were very happy with this cruise and how Viking took care of us. We spent a day in Amsterdam prior to departure to get over the jet lag flying overnight from Chicago. The ship and facilities were in very good condition. We are mostly experienced in ocean cruising with about a dozen overall cruises, but this was only our second river cruise, both with Viking. Viking did an excellent job navigating the Rhine as it was at a historically low water level, given the drought in Europe last summer. At one point, Viking thought we were going to have to be off-boarded and transported to another ship to get past the most critically low-level areas. However, they got through with apparently only a few inches of clearance and it was really cause for celebration to avoid that possible obstacle and delay! The stops and excursions were all excellent. Typically, we are willing on cruises to pay extra for excursions, but on this trip, what was included in the base price were excellent, and we didn't upgrade a single excursion! Very unusual for us, yet we felt we saw everything we wanted to. The areas for improvement for us are in evening entertainment and the ability to have room service for your meals. The previous river cruise with Viking had significant evening entertainment which we didn't feel this cruise offered. Also, the balconies are very nice on the ship and we love to have our meals brought in to be consumed while we sail and we often do on our ocean cruises...unfortunately, Viking doesn't offer that on their river cruises, that I am aware of. A third complaint is that this river ship did not offer a small gym or workout room. Other than those complaints, we were very happy with the ship, the staff, the service, and the entire experience with Viking. Read Less

We chose the Rhine Getaway largely because of the moderate summer temperatures in northern Europe in July/August. This was our first river cruise. We had no ideas what to expect. My biggest concern was that there would be little independent time and little activity. My concerns were quickly dispelled. We did the Amsterdam pre-extension, which I highly recommend because Amsterdam is an WONDERFUL city, and we were able to adjust to the time change. The hotel, the Radisson Blu, was well-located and quite nice. The included walking tour was fine. Our independent travel was better, walking, enjoying the incredible architecture, navigating public transportation, visiting wonderful museums, and dining in very good restaurants along the canals. The included canal boat tour on day 2 of our cruise was ok...something a tourist must do. The cruise itself was quite good, usually cruising during the night, a morning stop and walking tour in an historic city/town. We were often bussed to the towns, but this was fine as the Viking-owned busses are quite nice and the road trip was interesting. There were usually optional afternoon and/or evening tours. I was really impressed though that for the rest of the day, Viking offered shuttle service to and from the towns we had visited, so we could explore independently if we wanted. We only did one optional tour--to the medieval village of Colmar in France. Our tour guide was excellent and this was a lovely little French town that was untouched by the war (unlike, say, Cologne). Our only disappointment was the Black Forest tour. Frankly what we saw of the Black Forest was not that exciting and the destination was a touristy shopping place that sold a lot of cuckoo clocks. Staff on the cruise was outstanding, even compared to our positive big cruise ship experiences. The Program Director, Renee, was SO organized and entertaining. A good piano/singer was with us in the evenings for the entire trip, and a few local entertainers were also brought on board. In the process of dining, visiting the lounge, and daily trips, we met many friendly people and shared travel experiences. The ship is very well appointed, sunny and open, light contemporary decor. Food was generally very good. We purchased the wine package, which we would not repeat. The regular wines were fine and the package was way to heavily loaded with German wines for our taste. We did a 2-day extension in Lucerne, a truly beautiful city. I regret that we did not do the optional train into the Alps, but just walking the city and cruising on Lake Lucerne were very good. My only complaint about Viking had to do with travel and left hand not communicating with right hand. We booked through Viking Air because of the low cost and because it included escorted transfer from the airport to our hotel. Although there are several direct flights from Detroit to Amsterdam, we were booked initially with a 1-hour layover in Dulles, just barely enough time to make our connecting flight to Amsterdam if nothing went wrong. What were they thinking! It took 3 phone calls and a lot of stress before Viking Air agreed to change our flight, which in the end had a reasonable connection in Newark. Upon arrival in Amsterdam, we found that Viking Air had not informed the Viking transfer company (all of these services seem to be subcontracted) that we would be arriving 3 hours later, so there was no one to pick us up when we arrived. There were several red-shirted Viking reps there however who did arrange a pickup for us, but in our fatigued state, the delay was really frustrating. Also in a call to Viking before our trip, we were assured that we could check in to our hotel upon early morning arrival. The hotel made it very clear that they had been fully booked the night before and no one could check in until 1 pm. Again, bad communication and a lot of frustrated Viking travelers arriving at the hotel. I do have to add that our transfer from our Lucerne hotel to the Zurich airport was quite nice. My husband and I were chauffeured in a Mercedes, and the driver gave us a nice tour of Zurich on the way. So, we are looking at a possible Viking Danube trip for 2017. If we book it, we will: 1) monitor the Viking air reservation situation very closely and 2) do more research on independent travel possibilities along our itinerary, now that we know that those opportunities will be there. Oh yes, and bring your home medicine cabinet (aspirin, antidiarrheals, etc.) as there is no medical care on these ships. I had to spend time in Amsterdam searching for drug stores when there were much better things to do. Read Less

They have an.amazing ability to know your name after the first day. Off ship cultural tours are great fun, and very educational. I app that there are levels of exertion for the tours...allowing those who wish to do less or go at a slower rate than others while not slowing anyone else down. I enjoy traveling to new places and accompanied a friend, who is a retired History teacher. The Lofn was my first experience on a Longship and quite different from cruising on big ocean liners, but very nice. The ports were wonderful. Our guides were fantastic. Everything was very well planned. I would have enjoyed more evening entertainment. A dress code for dinner would have been appreciated-jeans are fine during the day, but no jeans and t shirts for dinner. Including a tour of Ann Frank's house would have been appreciated. My friend waited 2 1/2 hours in line. Visiting the many cathedrals was a highlight of my trip. The tulips were gorgeous the third week in April. The dining hours for breakfast, lunch and dinner accommodated our tour times. Rene was a great entertainment director. The waitstaff went above and beyond to make sure everyone was pleased with service, food and special diets. Being able to tour the galley was an unexpected treat. Read Less

My Mother and I have just completed a river cruise on the Viking Skirnir and Lofn from Amsterdam to Budapest. At 85 years of age, this was the pinnacle of her 'bucket list' and an epic journey from Australia to Europe. I have been on many ocean cruises before but never a river cruise. I found river cruising very different to what I have experienced on ocean cruises. Firstly embarkation - forget lining up with the hoards - we arrived at the cruise terminal in Amsterdam about 3pm and were taken to the ship. No lines - straight onboard and greeted warmly by the reception staff. We were taken to our cabin and given an overview and our luggage was delivered promptly. We booked a full balcony cabin and my first impression was that it was extremely small - much smaller than any ocean liner cabin I have ever been in. However, it was well equipped and had plenty of storage space for the both of us. The heated bathroom floor was a nice touch in the chilly weather. After unpacking, we acquainted ourselves with our home for the next 14 nights. Both the Skirnir and the Lofn are beautiful new ships and very well appointed. Due to low water levels in the Rhine and Danube, we faced the possibility of 3 ship changes during our journey. However, luck was on our side and we only had one change after 3 days from the Skirnir to the Lofn. This was handled beautifully by the staff and when we arrived to board the Lofn, our luggage was in the same room as previously and we just had to unpack once more. The ship was identical in every way except for the name on the side. My Mother has very limited mobility and uses a walker. In hindsight, although this cruise was her dream, it was really not for her. River cruises are far from a relaxing journey. You are in a different port every day and most of the tours are walking tours. With the low river levels, the gangway was very steep and just getting her to the top was a major effort. All of these old cities have cobblestone streets which are not conducive to walker or wheelchair use. Consequently, she had to stay onboard many days and missed a lot of the tours. Our cruise director was amazing. He arranged for us to use the onboard wheelchair so that I could take her onshore to have a look around at some of the ports. This was not without resistance from the hotel manager who insisted that the wheelchair was to stay onboard for emergency use. I am fairly fit but it was not an easy task negotiating ancient cobblestone streets with the wheelchair. The food onboard was amazing - much better than on any ocean liner I have been on. The variety was fantastic and we did not have any dish repeated in the 14 days. The staff were wonderful and nothing was too much trouble. They took wonderful care of Mum. There was an elevator onboard that took us from deck 2 (where our cabin was) up to deck 3 where the lounge was situated. There was no elevator to the top deck but it was really too cold to go up there anyway. As I said previously, most of the tours are walking tours. They do have a 'leisurely tour' each day for those who are not as able as others. However, these tours still involve a lot of walking and I heard complaints from many people who struggled with them. We finally decided that Mum was not going to see much at all, so arranged for the Concierge to have a taxi waiting for us in each port to show us around. This worked out very well and we had excellent drivers who spoke English and were very knowledgeable. These cost us around 30 euros per hour each time. As a tour is included each day at no extra cost, this was an added charge for us but the only way that Mum was going to experience any of the towns at all. Wine, beer, etc is included with every meal including champagne with breakfast for those who wish to partake. I did not always like the wine so tipped the waiter 5 euros and was able to have anything I wanted. Drinks outside of meal times are reasonably priced and I found them substantially cheaper than our previous Celebrity ocean cruises. Entertainment is lacking with just a piano player in the evenings. One day we had a glass blower on board and he was very entertaining. We also had opera singers one night (totally not my cup of tea) and some German dancers (ditto). Again disembarkation is totally different to the big ocean liners. Our flight out of Budapest did not leave until 3pm, so we were able to stay onboard until noon (after vacating our room at 9am) and use all of the facilities. We had breakfast and also a light lunch before our taxi driver came to collect us. So to summarise - these cruises are not everyone and particularly not for anyone with mobility issues of any kind. You are on the go every day and it is quite tiring. Don't expect to be entertained onboard. Most of the cruising is done at night but if you cruise during the day, just expect to sit and watch the world go by. This is just my personal opinion but river cruising (at the moment) is not for me. I will continue to do ocean cruises for many years to come. Read Less

We enjoyed our cruise on the Viking Longships---two actually because of low water problems in the river systems during our October sailing. We were suppose to start and finish on the Lofn but actually only finished on it. However, Viking handled the required ship change as smoothly as anyone could have dreamed. Except for having to pack and unpack a little more than desired and to have had a few more long bus rides I don't think we had any ill effects. In addition Viking gave us a free excursion because of the difficulties. The food and drink onboard were of high quality and the free wine service was generous and prompt. Our Cruise Director went with us from ship to ship so that we had some type of continuity throughout. Both crews were fantastic and I can't remember any complaints worth mentioning. This was our first river cruise and my wife and I both liked it. We had previously visited some of the towns and cities along the way but enjoyed all and found the excursions to all be worthwhile. We signed up for only a few of the 'extra fee' excursions as we thought the free ones were excellent. I would have liked more tome onboard just cruising along the river but I think that's the nature of river cruising , at least in Europe where one has to cope with so many locks and daytime stops. Entertainment on board was minimal but fine with some cultural insights thrown in through lectures od local entertainers. All in all, I liked (as did my wife) our first river cruise and I was especially pleased with the entire Viking treatment. Indeed, I might have rated this higher than 4 stars but have so little past river cruising experience that I felt like I should hold back a little. However, Viking impressed me so much that we are planning an ocean cruise with them for 2017 (by that time we will have been on 18 ocean cruises and I'll have the experience to more accurately rank them. My wife and I really enjoyed our Viking Grand European River Cruise. The crew, food, and accommodations were excellent. We did feel that the Viking organization could have been more forthright from the beginning of the cruise about the low water conditions on the Rhine, Main and Danube Rivers, and the probable consequences. Instead, it was more or less a surprise to most passengers. It was indeed fortunate that there was an identical Viking ship in Passau so that the east and west bound passengers could trade boats. Our new ship had to stop short of Budapest and we again were bussed to the city and only had about a half day to see the sights. Viking did their best to make up for the travel disruptions by providing concert tickets in Vienna to all interested passengers and a free sightseeing boat trip in Budapest. Read Less

Learning our names and our food preferences, they greeted us at every point with a smile and assistance. From Airport to Ship and return, I felt pampered and important. Thank you Viking, for the historical research and travel arrangements at every port. Our guide for Lake Como has already written 3 books and was so knowledgeable and friendly. The food in every port was created to give you the best taste of local cuisine, even if you wished to dine on the ship. I must add that I have asked other travelers from other ships of their experiences and none compares in price or service to Viking. We will definitely be taking another trip soon. Celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. River cruise was on our bucket list. This cruise hit all the ports we wanted plus the pre and post extensions (Lake Como And Amsterdam) added to our trip. Turned out to be so much more than we expected. The Viking reputation was upheld by the entire crew. From our captain to our Hotel Manager, to our breakfast server. Every person was amazing. They knew our names by day 2! The long ship was spotless. The food was outstanding. Even our nightly entertainment was great for the 30 of us who stayed up past 9:30 pm. We even made life long friends with some our shipmates. Seriously, it was so nice to be on a ship that concentrates on making relationships and truly providing service, rather than just purely entertaining you to make money. The crew of the Loft loves what they do. They have so much pride in taking care of their guests it shows every day. We had sailed with Viking on the Danube and were pleased with our experience so we picked them again for a Rhine River cruise and we're glad we did. Our balcony cabin was small, as are most river cruise cabins, but there was ample storage. The service was outstanding; we would like Marlon, our waiter, to come and live with us. He knew all of our drink preferences after the first day and, when one of our party became ill, he never failed to ask about his progress. We were very lucky: the water level and the weather were close to perfect. We spent most of the afternoon of the Middle Rhine sailing on the top deck and Viking showed great attention to details: we had maps that showed all of the 31 castles we sailed by, the program director did a commentary, we were given ice water, shade umbrellas, and ice cream (the sun was very strong that day - we all had red skin on areas where we failed to use sunblock). Most of the excursions were very good; the one exception being the Black Forest where it takes much too long on the bus to spend an hour at a very touristy visitors center (let's not talk about the rush hour traffic we hit on the way back). We would love to travel with Viking again. Read Less

We have completed over 20 ocean cruises and wanted to try a River Cruise. The timing was right for this one and the price was right as there was a big sell. I think we booked at the end of July 2018 for a March 2019 cruise. My wife loves the castles and she loved the day we cruised and saw all of the castles. The staff was very good to us. We celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary and they brought us a bottle of champagne and flowers for my wife. We also celebrated her birthday and they brought her a birthday cake to the dining room. We enjoyed all of the people we met on the cruise and got to know some of them very well. We are planning another Viking cruise down the Danube in August, 2020. One thing I do not like is that you have to make full payment 1 year in advance if you book more than a year out. 6 months ahead of time would be more reasonable. The food was good but understandably there was not as big of a selection as on the ocean cruises. Read Less

We wanted to try a river cruise for our twentieth anniversary. It was true excellence all the way. The ports had lots to see. The staff was professional and very friendly. I loved the intimate feeling of a small boat versus an ocean liner. Most guests got to know each other really well. The ship was very clean and all activities were well organized. The food was delicious and planned to themes with the area the boat was visiting. The cruise director Gavin made our experience extra special. He was funny and personable. The alcohol was top shelf. The idea of an adults only cruise was very romantic and a great way to spend our anniversary. The tour guides were very knowledgeable about their ports. The one add- on excursion we took to the monastery with dinner was advertised as a working monastery and it wasn’t. That was our only disappointment of our trip. I have recomended Viking to all my friends and family. Read Less

I've travelled a lot but this was absolutely the most wonderful travel experience that I have ever had. My husband and I went with friends and we all loved it! We can't wait to take another cruise next summer and plan to do it at least annually. It was relaxing while cruising the river whether inside watching out the expansive windows, or on top outside (with drink in hand)... The food, what can I say about the fabulous food??? (It may be the last time I ever get on a scale). It was really interesting that just the views from the ship were exciting to watch, even if we didn't stop at every point. Having usually travelled very independently, I initially thought that the tours may be confining, but it was the exact opposite. It was so easy, and we also ventured out doing lots of things on our own as well. I found going through the locks fascinating. The ship was great, the crew was engaging, the service could not have been better, and we really did not want to come home! Frankly I wish I was boarding right now... Read Less

We went on this cruise on a recommendation from our daughter and son-in-law, plus the Viking reputation. We went on this cruise with our daughter and son-in-law law, and his father and girlfriend. The cruise was perfect. We went on daily shore excursions which were very good. They made each day something to look forward to as we got a good taste of Germany in different locations. Each day, before dinner, around 530-600, the tour director went over the next days tour plans. A shout out to the tour director, who did a great job. The casual atmosphere from start to finish kept everything comfortable. Food: excellent. Ship: excellent. Service: could not have been better. Embarking and disembarking: excellent from the airport to the boat. Expanding on the service: I must give my highest compliments and thanx to a few individuals: Jerome and Julia. Both were more then excellent. We saw them numerous times daily. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and often in the early evening in the lounge. It seemed as though Julie & Jerome’s only goal was to make our cruise perfect and one to remember. They accomplished this fabulously, from the minute we met them, until the cruise was over. I cannot say enough about their service and about them personally as individuals. They weren’t just servers, they made us feel like we were all friends and welcoming us into their home. Also, in the lounge, 2 more folks need to be pointed out for excellent service as well: Dmitri and the bartender (forgive me, I forgot his name.) these two gentlemen also made us all feel welcome no matter the time. The silver spirits package is the way to go! These four helped turned an excellent cruise into one that was “over the top”. The entire cruise experience was the best vacation my wife and I ever had, and do plan on another one in the future. Everything exceeded our expectations. Thank you all for a fabulous experience. See Don465's review...my sentiments exactly! When making plans to go on a cruise, my only goal was that it be a river cruise. Not being on the ocean with thousands of other people was what initially drew me to a river cruise. What an excellent decision that turned out to be! Everything from start to finish was wonderful! I can't say enough about the staff! If there is a school on how to make passengers feel comfortable, and well taken care of, the Lofn staff were all star students! Matter of fact, every Viking employee, no matter what their job was, was superb...from the staff that met us at the airport, to the employees who took care of our cabin, to the chef and his staff, to the tour guides on the excursions, to the Viking woman that helped us during our stay in Basel, to every person with a Viking name tag! Our trip was truly one I will never forget! Read Less

Have previously heard raving reviews from previous Viking River Cruise passengers. Now that we have been on the cruise itself, we want to truly share your experience with others. We love the daily included tours and we especially love the services provided by the Viking Cruise staff members. This range from the Captain, all the down to the tour bus drivers. The staff on board the cruise ship all went above and beyond . The food was excellent and the drinks bountiful. We really had a good time and met some wonderful people too. The event coordinator was superb. Very knowledgeable and make special effort to include all those , like my husband who had limited mobility on the tours. Room service was excellent and the entertainment provided every evening were excellent. This is our first River Cruise and we enjoyed it more than other Ocean Cruises we had been. We will definitely take on another River Cruise with Viking. Love that the package included airfare and ground transportation. Read Less

Always wanted to go on a river boat cruise. We took this cruise to celebrate my 50th birthday but also in memory of my mother in law who always wanted to go on a riverboat cruise! I love the intimacy, the small crew and limited amount of people. The included excursions were amazing and the excursion we chose was fantasic. The time on the ship especially on the sun deck in the evening was breathtaking. Absolutely loved the food! It was a real cultural experience. The fact that it was all inclusive really made us happy! The crew was amazing. Ivan was our favorite. He made us feel special and had a great personalitity. Definitely a great balance between friendliness and professionalism!!! We definitely will go on Viking from now on! Thinking about an ocean cruise next. Everything was top of the line and a great value. Highly recommend! Love Viking. Read Less
