This was our 2nd Emerald cruise, this time it was The Danube cruise from Nuremberg to Budapest. We arrived at Munich airport to a well organised transfer to the ship. Slight delay boarding so we were well looked after with refreshments at a local hotel. The cabins on board are excellent, with a high comfort factor, very nicely appointed with large flat screen TV, hairdryer, robes. We were on a lower deck, with no balcony. It was fine, the window allowed river views so we could see the weather conditions! No engine noise, just some shuddering when docking. The lounge bar is very comfortable, although a personal preference would be for the furnishings off its sister ship. The sofas are very deep, not the best for short people and those with mobility problems. Staff are superb, regardless of department. Some are absolutely outstanding. The cruise director was excellent, informative & helpful. The restaurant, wow, what can I say, except I'm now dieting! The cuisine was amazing, great choice at all mealtimes, whether it be a light bight in the lounge or a 5 course Gala dinner. No complaints, only compliments to the chef, his team and restaurant staff. Always delicious wines to compliment both lunch & dinner. The included excursions were well organised, informative and enjoyable. However there were occasions when a member of our party could not participate due to mobility problems. This was usually due to being docked alongside other vessels and having to cross over boats. If it meant crossing from the sun terrace onto another boat, then there is no elevator to the top deck. Also other boats may not have elevators at all. We've already booked our next river cruise with Emerald, exceptional holidays. Read Less

First river cruise and loved it. Enjoyed the friendly atmosphere with crew and cruisers. Arrived in Nuremberg 2 days before sailing. Flew to Munich from Toronto. Took Flixibus to Nuremberg (2 hour drive). Ate some great food (bratwurst and sauerkraut, pretzel, gingerbread) and drank some dark beer. Embarkation was smooth. Arrived at 2:30 p.m. by taxi (15 minute drive, 20 euros). Friendly welcome by crew members. The cabin was small but had good storage space. The lounge was big, quiet, a relaxing meeting place. I would sit in one of the comfy sofas with a cup of coffee from their beverage corner and write in my journal. The dining room had a variety of seating arrangements. A chance to socialize with other cruisers and have a great meal. The soups and cheeses were delicious. The entertainment in the evening was George the piano player or you could hang out in the front/outside of the lounge and enjoy the view. If it was chilly they had heaters over the sofas to warm you up. One evening they had a crew show, very funny. I enjoyed the shore excursions, informative guides. The tours were only a few hours so never tiring. Always time in the afternoon for a dip in the pool or a short nap. The best part was the crew. Love, love, love them! Great experience! Will be planning another river cruise with Emerald Waterways in the near future. Read Less

This was our first ever cruise of any kind and we had no idea what to expect. The booking was so easy and the pack that arrived with our boarding cards already printed and great information was impressive. My only complaint was that we had to fly with Easy Jet which I thought was not impressive for such a costly holiday although we were given Speedy Boarder passes which compensated a bit! We were met at the airport immediately we got to the Arrivals area and whisked away in a car to the ship. Embarkation was so easy and we were thrilled when we saw our cabin with the open air balcony with the amazing view of the Hungarian Parliament Building. On the first evening we were treated to a cruise to see the city by night. Every day was special in it's own way, waking up in a new place having cruised overnight was great and then daytime cruising towards the end of the week offered a relaxing way to see the river and the sights. The staff were wonderful especially Jana the cruise director who deserves a special mention. The local guides were fantastic, so knowledgeable and so proud to show guests around their cities. A visit to a Slovakian family home for an afternoon with coffee, cake and wine was one of the highlights of the week. Overall the food was really good, always fresh and well presented with plenty of choice and drinks whenever you wanted them with the meals. You can choose from tables of two, four, six and eight so it is easy to get to know other people on the boat. The evening entertainment was okay, perhaps the only thing that could be improved upon. We will definitely be looking to do another cruise and wouldn't hesitate to go back to Emerald Waterways. Read Less

We booked an Evergreen tour of Eastern Europe plus a river cruise on the Emerald Sun from Budapest to Amsterdam. We simply couldn't have been more satisfied or impressed! The ship was superb! The team running the ship were first class! The itinerary was great! We were particularly impressed with our Tour Director, Jana! She couldn't have been more helpful and obliging, and was always perfectly organised. Very impressive! Also the chef, Lemanya, was great - the food was wonderful. Also terrific were the fantastic wait staff. Just so efficient and helpful! The ship was very new, and the entire layout very well thought out! It included Australian power points. Plenty of cupboard space. Each room had a very nice bathroom, with a roomy shower. The enclosed 'verandah' was particularly good - it doubled as an inside sitting room and an outside balcony just by pressing a button to lower the top window. Pretty nifty! I highly recommend this ship and its entire ship's crew! You won't be disappointed! Read Less

We chose Emerald as a result of attending presentations by both Emerald and Scenic (same ownership). They said that Emerald was a step lower than Scenic in terms of luxury, but I would challenge anyone to fault Emerald for its comfort and a great cruising experience. Our cabin was large - a smaller one would have sufficed, but the extra room in the Owner's Suite was terrific. The food was excellent. We opted for the light breakfasts and lunches as it's so easy to overeat on a cruise ship. Dinners were fabulous ad while they were four course meals, serving sizes were just right - not too large. The crew were fantastic and provided terrific, very friendly service, led by a great hotel manager and cruise director. Excursions were thoroughly enjoyable and great learning experiences, particularly the visit to the Nazi rally grounds in Nuremberg. Most excursions involved walking tours with audio units so you could still hear the guide even if you wandered off a little. We appreciated the daily exercise. I cannot speak highly enough of the entire experience with Emerald. The only comment I would have is that it would have been nice to have had more time in Budapest. We did a Prague add on with Emerald before boarding in Budapest and we only got one day in this city. Read Less

We have now been on four river cruises and many many sea cruises. This experience with Emerald was the best ever. Why ? - The ship was always immaculate, the staff were always very pleasant and very polite. The beds were the most comfortable and the cabins were great. The food was very good and variable, with alternatives if what was on the menu wasn't to one's liking. Plenty of seating with lovely picture windows and exceptionally attentive staff. The ship was always moored within walking distance of any town centre we were at and again very interesting tours and knowledgeable guides. Special mention must go to Jana the cruise director , George ( not the correct spelling ) on reception, Anastasia on the bar and Patric the singing waiter who has missed his vocation. We can't wait to go again and have already told numerous friends of our experience Read Less

All of the services were world class, housekeeping, tour director, bar and restaurant staff. Cabin was very clean and well appointed, but small, and the sliding door to the bathroom was awkward. We used the bicycles on several days, which was a great way to see more of the cities, however the bikes themselves were heavy and difficult to handle, with drag (pedal backward) brakes and a weird frame geometry. One suggestion for Emerald would be to provide a few higher end, lighter bikes for those passengers who are experienced city riders. The food was great, but a little much of a muchness after several days, and we found ourselves craving hot spicy Indian food on one of the evenings, so we went ashore to satisfy that need! We were reprimanded for bringing our own bottle to the table on one of the evenings, which is understandable, but suggest that Emerald introduce an optional corkage fee, for those special occasions when you want to bring something very nice to the table. Laundry iron-burned one of my shirts. No big deal, but don't give them anything delicate or precious to you to wash. Read Less

This was our 1st European River cruise (we were a group of 3 adult couples, late 60's-early 70's, all from Iowa) and we all loved our cruise. The cabin we stayed in (#328/Panorama Balcony Suite) was quite comfortable, and we had plenty of room to unpack all of our belongings. The crew was fantastic...very friendly, very helpful, very courteous. They took care of our every need. The day trips and guides were local and quite knowledgeable about the history of their city, and all walking tours and even some bus tours were included in our fare, along with all tips. Beverages were available for free at meals (wine, beer, soda, coffee, tea, etc.) and at other times were available either individually or you could purchase a drink package that was customized for your preferences (which several of our group did.) The food was excellent, with many choices for each meal. Breakfast and lunch were buffets, and each evening we had a sit-down full service, 4-5 course meal, with choices for each course. There are so many different cruise lines going to the same places, my wife did a spread-sheet so we could compare them all, and we chose Emerald which we felt would offer us the best value for our money. We were not disappointed in our choice. I would not hesitate to recommend them, and will no doubt use Emerald Waterways again! Read Less

We chose this cruise because it covered the areas we wanted to see over a two week period. It was very calming and the weather was great, the ship was only a year old and everything sparkled. The bicycles were fun and the organised ride was a good activity although the bikes could do with some maintenance. There was lots of activities to choose from and places to visit. There was fast and slow group tours to enable most people to participate. The cabin was quite big with lots of room to store belongings. The internet was a bonus being able to keep in touch with family and friends. The crew were wonderful, very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The food was fabulous with so much variety, there was afternoon tea and supper for those who needed to eat all day and the service great. The last night cruise in Budapest with all the lights was a wonderful sight and a good way to finish off. It was a trip of a lifetime and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Read Less

There was gentle tours for us that could not do a brisk walk. Everyone was accommodated. Food was terrific. There was so much variety and choices no one could have complained. My wife and I have nothing negative to say about the ship, the crew, or the cruise. The cabin was comfortable and if anything the bed was too big. We would have been just as happy with a smaller one. Never wanted to go on a cruise. We like to do our own thing when travelling. Amsterdam to Budapest however sounded interesting and the Emerald Sun looked good. We loved it. You can join in or be by yourself. No pressure on the shore excursions and enough on board information that you can go it alone. Time enough at every port of call. The staff were wonderful. Helpful, entertaining and very friendly. Have some great photographic memories of late nights at the bar. Buy a drinks package. Met a couple of interesting characters travelling by themselves and we all became good friends. We used the cruise as part of a months travel and we spent three days each in Budapest, Vienna, Prague, Belin and Brussels on our way home to Edinburgh. We took a Danube's Delight cruise with Emerald Waterways and enjoyed every second of it. We were picked up from Munich airport and taken straight to the ship, Emerald Sun, at Nuremberg. From the moment we set foot onboard, the staff could not do enough to help us. We were welcomed with drinks and smiles, and taken to our cabin, which was a good size with a double bed and more than adequate ensuite bathroom. Having been on sea cruises before, with tiny cabins, our cabin on the Emerald Sun was a very pleasant surprise, both in terms of size and the included toiletries - shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion etc. The cruise took us down the Danube Main Canal to the Danube river from Nuremberg to Budapest. The first full day included stop offs in Passau and Regensberg, but we were happy to sit up top and watch the fantastic scenery go by. We also stopped at Linz and Melk before reaching Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest, where we had a full day in each city. At each city there was a walking and/or coach tour included at no extra cost, and fantastic, knowledgeable guides to take us around the sites, and outline the history of the area. We had small receivers with ear phones in our cabins and these were used for each tour, connected to the guide's microphone, so they didn't have to shout to be heard above other guides in the area. On board there was a lovely dining room, with a great range of meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We had two special five-course meals whilst on board, with exquisite food and wine. Again the staff were amazing in both their knowledge and service. In the lounge, there was a bar with a great range of branded drinks and a piano player providing entertainment. Drinks were included with meals but we chose to upgrade to a premium drinks package, so had unlimited drinks for an additional 19.90 euros per person, per day. Well worth doing. There was also additional entertainment with an Oompa band joining us for an evening in Austria and a Hungarian folk band in Budapest. The ship's crew also provided an entertaining show of sketches, tricks and songs one evening. We really enjoyed the cruise - more so than the sea cruise we had been on previously. There were a range of passengers on board from the UK, Ireland, the USA, Canada, Jamaica, Israel as well as other nations - a great mix who got on very well together. The age range was predominantly 40+, with some younger passengers but not many. We would definitely recommend this type of holiday to truly relax, see amazing scenery and explore some truly magnificent places. One of the best holidays we've ever had, in terms of service, destinations, accommodation and overall enjoyment. Read Less

We are experience ocean cruisers having taken 18 of them in different parts of the world. We've cruise on luxury, near luxury and premium cruise lines and we wanted to try something different. We were more than satisfied by our river cruise experience. Emerald staff were eager to please, help was everywhere, the tour guides were mostly very good (they use the same guides as Scenic). The ship is only one year old, beds were comfortable, storage was adequate, amenities were better than most lines and we did enjoy the pool. Dinner & lunch food were between very good to average. Breakfasts were very good. Included beer was very good but wine was only fair. Optional drinks were expensive. Surprisingly the crew show was quite entertaining. Local entertainment was fine. The enrichment tour of a visit to a home in Bratislava was a great experience. We also enjoyed the private concert in Vienna. Overall, we would take another river cruise with Emerald. Read Less

From start to finish this cruise is excellent. The ship is really impressive with amazing staff. The sihip Emerald Sun was built in 2015 and looks brand new. We had a panorama balcony suite on 2nd floor. These rooms are bigger than other rooms we have had on other river cruise ships as the window is from floor to ceiling and can be lowered with touch of a switch. The ship has about 180 people onboard so it is easy to meet new people and make friends as you see them every day. There is a more friendly feel on a river cruise rather than an ocean cruise ship. Each morning we would open the window blind, lower the window and watch the world sail by while lying on the bed...magic. This is better than having a separate balcony area which sounds good but makes your room smaller. The cruise director Ray Bauer is a natural at his job, very knowledgable, friendly, always a joy to meet and talk to. Food was Michelin star quality at every meal. Inclusive with cost of holiday is wine, soft drinks or beer at lunch and dinner and guided walks at every destination. Highlight of the week for us was a private concert by Vienna Imperial orchestra in a beautiful room include tenor and soprano singers. We had to pay for this extra but well worth it. We will definately book again with Emerald Waterways a totally professional organisation. Read Less

This was our second cruise on the Emerald Sun. Having done the trip from Budapest to Amsterdam we now wanted to complete our experience of the Danube by sailing from Bucharest to Budapest. This enabled us to tick off several more countries including Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia and Croatia as well as revisiting Hungary. The Emerald Sun was as enchanting as it had been in 2015 and several small improvements have made it even more enjoyable. For example the power jet in the pool is a real challenge. We find it hard to find fault with anything. The organisation is superb throughout and if anything does go wrong due to events beyond Emeralds control there is always a fall back plan available. We had a grand balcony cabin which was well equipped and advantage is taken of every inch of space with drawers and cupboards in unexpected places. Clientele is mainly British and Australian together with a sprinkling of Canadians and Americans. Read Less

All the meals were of the highest order from choice to quality and presentation, including the buffet breakfast and occasional buffet diner. The included shore excursions were a good mix of culture history and architecture with additional extra choices to suit all tastes. We had two days in Budapest on our own.Met at the airport and transported to the hotel by a smart representative. The Marriott Courtyard was in a great position and near to the hop on and hop off stop.On the day of embarkation we were met at the hotel with other guests and taken to the boat. All our luggage was handled for us and put onto the boat and later into our cabins. We had a light lunch provided and then taken to our cabins. The cabins were compact but very comfortable. The whole trip was really well organised and the daily tours were by good local reps. For the people who didn't walk so fast, there was a group for easy walkers. This was gently paced but you still saw everything the other groups saw. The dining was excellent and the service really good. The tea/coffee machine broke down but the staff simply got you anything you wanted from the kitchen. The machine was quickly repaired the next day. We went on to Prague. The rep accompanied as to Prague and the hotel was in a good position near Wenceslas Square from where everything was walkable. The stay included a walking tour of the city which we abandoned half way through as the pace was too fast for my husband. A mini bus was available for those that chose to leave and it took us back to the hotel, from where we went out on our own at our own pace. We really enjoyed the holiday but were pleased we took the extra days at the beginning in Budapest and at the end in Prague. Both were wonderful cities and very easy to explore on your own. Read Less

Honestly, we chose this cruise line because it was less expensive than some of the other luxury river cruise lines and because it had very good reviews overall. We were not disappointed all all and are very glad we chose Emerald Cruises and the Emerald Sun. The cruise was a great value and we didn't feel like we missed out on anything by paying a lower rate. The facilities and public rooms aboard the Emerald Sun a very nice and have an elegant look and feel. Our cabin was great...no complaints at all. They manage to squeeze a lot of room and amenities into a small space and still give us plenty of storage for our things. We really liked the cabin-wide picture window that lowered half-way down to let the outside in. We didn't miss a balcony at all and think this is a much better way to maximize space. The crew worked very hard to give us a good experience and almost all of them were very friendly. The food was basic, but was well presented. One thing to note...if you're looking for the typical big cruise line food extravaganza with midnight buffets and unlimited food all day, this may not be for you. Food was available only during breakfast, lunch and dinner, which was fine with us, but may not be for everyone. Of course there were bar, coffee, and soft drink services available throughout the day. Ports of call on this cruise were quite lovely. I love the walking tour concept...it's a great way to get a feel for a location. The headsets they have for the walking tours are great also, allowing you to hear the tour guide even if there's a lot of noise in the area. The only stop on our cruise I didn't care for was Bratislava, which feels like a place that wants to be a tourist destination, but doesn't know how to do it yet. I also enjoyed going through the locks, I think there were more than 20 of them on the portion of the Danube we travelled...very interesting thing to experience. Read Less

Danube Delight was an excellent river cruise! All the transfers were timely and covered in the cost, and were handled smoothly, expeditiously, and seamlessly. The ship was lovely, new, modern. The staff were very competent, attentive, pleasant, and efficient. The food was plentiful, generally very well prepared, themed to fit regions of the cruise, and served in a lovely formal dining room. Leisure space in the lounge and on the sun deck was well appointed, spacious, comfortably, and nicely served by accommodating bar staff. The cabins were large enough, well decorated, and regularly, actively cleaned, and the half window/balcony concept is clever and provides quite an enjoyable way to enjoy the river and the ports. Entertainment ranged from fun local musicians (German and Slovakian) to the crew (whose talent was sometimes rather thin). Shore time offered just enough guided direction and information with free time for independent exploring or hiking or biking with available bicycles). One always wants more time in Regensburg, Vienna, and Budapest, but the cruise effectively balanced shore time and schedule and information. Local guides were all very knowledgeable and articulate. Extra cost excursions were tempting and diverse. The cruise director was an excellent part of the experience; she was knowledgeable, articulate, fun, engaging, and informative, and totally organized. The fact that all transfers from arrival to departure and all tips were included meant that we could truly sit back and let the cruise happen to us--even though plenty of planned activities gave us great opportunities to burn calories from all the fine food. Frankly we loved just about everything on the cruise and were ready to go again at its end! Read Less

We just got back from the May 26 Danube Delights cruise on the Emerald Sun, from Budapest to Nuremburg -- or almost to Nuremburg. Here are a few comments. 1. Overall, the cruise was very, very good. 2. The Emerald Sun is a very nice state-of-the-river-cruising-art ship, only one year old, with lovely, well-designed common areas and comfortable cabins. Of course the cabins aren't large but are well laid out, with plenty of storage space. The small but adequate bathroom space is utilized efficiently, and the shower water pressure and temperature (one of my pet peeves) were quite good. The "indoor balcony" with the window that comes half-way down is a clever idea. The coffee/cappucino/latte/etc. machine in the Horizons Lounge was a big hit. The pool/movie theater did not seem to be highly utilized during our cruise. 3. The crew was excellent -- hard working, friendly, always smiling, and providing great service. They were amazingly efficient and the housekeeping staff kept everything sparkling clean. Special mention must be made of Cruise Director Patricia, who was truly outstanding -- friendly, knowledgeable, charming, stylish, humorous, always upbeat and available, and she kept us very well informed. 4. The food (except for the very good soups at each meal) was just OK, the only thing about the cruise that didn't excite us. It was beautifully presented, but perhaps it was "toned down" for general palates and so not especially flavorful. The selection was good, especially at the bountiful buffet breakfasts and lunches. Dinner was seated, with a few choices for each of the four courses, and served by the efficient wait staff, who happily filled our glasses with the complimentary beverages. 5. The passengers (probably about 40% American, 40% British, 10% Canadian, and 10% other) were almost universally personable (Why wouldn't we be? We were on a wonderful vacation.), and the open seating with close tables at meals allowed conversation and making new friends easy. Ages generally ran from 45-ish to 75-ish, with the average being maybe around the early 60's. 6. We thought the ports-of-call were all good, but you can decide that for yourself based on the brochures and further research. Our local guides for the walking tours at each stop were also quite good. Emerald's new individual audio devices are great, allowing the 15-30 people with each guide to hear the commentary easily from as much as 25 meters away. All of the buses they put us on for various tours were very nice, clean and new. We took only one of the "extra" excursions, to Schonbruun Castle in Vienna, and it was fine. Those who did the Vienna concert liked it a lot. Some of the other "extra" tours were cancelled because not enough people signed up for them. 7. The evening entertainment on the ship was simple but pleasant, and quite a few passengers stayed up for much of it. Dining Room waiter Patrick is quite a character and a talented singer. 8. You have no doubt heard about the recent heavy rains in northern Europe, and although we had generally nice weather it ultimately did affect our cruise. The forecast for Days 3-5 called for showers, but few if any materialized. Then the next day (when we were headed for Regensburg) the forecast was good, but it rained, although not too hard where we were. However, the rain upstream had been severe and the Danube's water level rose significantly. Our captain decided it was not wise to go further upstream where there are some low bridges crossing the Danube, so we docked at Vilshofen, about a hundred meters downstream of a bridge. We saw some other similar boats going under that bridge, mostly going downstream, but the Emerald Sun stayed put for the last two nights of the cruise. Patricia explained our captain's decision, which made sense, and she also said that the continuing rising water level would likely cause more difficulties in the coming days. She said some ships might even get "trapped" between low bridges on certain sections of the Danube. On Day 6 Emerald sent us on buses for the Regensburg tour -- not a bad ride, about 1-1/2 hours each way from Vilshofen, actually a nice drive through pretty countryside. Emerald supplied large umbrellas, and we soldiered on for the Regensburg walking through some mild rain. 9. Regarding the end of the trip -- on the final morning they bused us from where we had docked at Vilshofen to our various departure locations -- Nuremburg airport (that's where we went, about 2-3/4 hours), train station, and bus station; Munich airport (farther); and maybe some other locations, perhaps even a bus ride to Prague for the optional extension. We were among the first small group (10 of us on a full-size bus) to leave the ship, at 6:00 a.m. for an early flight, so I didn't pay much attention to all those other places. 10. Specifically re the bike ride that some have asked about, about 30 signed up but only 15 did the ride, perhaps because of a bad weather forecast. The weather turned out fine, overcast but no rain. I did not do the ride but those who did said they enjoyed it, and that it was not taxing -- about 3-1/2 mostly flat hours, stopping a few times -- and spandex was not required. That day's cruise along the Danube was also nice, but not really much different than on other stretches of the river. 11. Overall, we highly recommend this cruise. Of course future weather conditions can't really be anticipated, and unfortunately those currently on the Danube Delights, as well as many other European river cruises, may be experiencing some logistical and enjoyment issues due to the weather. Wow ! - Having done several ocean cruises including the Panama Canal - this gave us the idea of a river cruise, Bavaria, Austria & Hungary were places on our list to visit, so this cruise ticked all the boxes! The ship is fairly new (2015) and our crew had only been together a few weeks, but Captain Boris, Cruise Director Jana, Hotel Director Robert - and all the crew were exceptional - helpful friendly and efficient- nothing was too much trouble - many thanks to all ! The UK flight and transfer from Munich to the ship was well organised and effortless, like wise the return flight from Budapest to Munich and transfer to UK flight although a very short transfer window went like clockwork - and all luggage arrived back with us in the UK - well done Lufthansa! Note though - only one suitcase per person and must meet Emeralds dimension guidelines (length, width & depth these are added together and must not exceed a set limit) weight 20 kgs - less than the airline 23kg limits - we had to buy new cases as existing ones were too large! Before the Cruise Emerald had sent us a rucksack each as the only allowable hand luggage - worked well and useful for all the day trips. All the stops/ tours were exceptional - Passau, Melk, Linz, Dürnstein Wien & Budapest the organised mixed walking/ coach guided tours were well organised and informative (rechargeable radios with headsets are available in all cabins for these trips) and used local guides with local knowledge and very good English! - also there was always one group available for those who's walking was slower and less challenging. A private evening concert in Vienna was a definite highlight. Captain Boris organised an evening Budapest river Cruise - although a bit chilly was fantastic and we were well fortified by glasses of ''Blue Danube Cocktail'' . Freetime during the organised tours was also available and in the main achieved a good balance Most of the distance cruising was done at night so you awake to a new town or city, though some short & scenic parts of the river (Wachau Valley etc) were by day and included a commentary which was most informative - with some spectacular scenery ! Bicycles were on the ship and available though advanced booking advised. Crew present to make adjustments to suit - cycle tracks along the river were good and flat! Having read horror story's of rivers with no water or floods we chose late April as a reasonable chance of having neither ! - our weather was generally good only one bad day of rain, layers and umbrellas (available on board) recommended though ! Food and Wine (both local where appropriate) were excellent - we did not have a menu that failed to inspire us (there were always other options available - steak, fish etc) and the lunchtime buffet had plenty of variation hot cold etc. Tea and several types off Coffee freely available from a machine in the lounge, mini bar in cabin but we did not need to use it - bottled water still and carbonated in the cabin and replaced as required foc. The included wine was often ''local'' and not to every ones taste (mostly on the swsweet or dry) - on request a different wine was served - no problems ! As far as I could tell the lift only travelled on the internal floors and not up to the sundeck, this could be a problem to any one with challenged mobility ..... but I am sure the crew will have a solution ! Entertainment - do not expect ocean cruise stage type performances, there is neither space or facility's, excellent Pianist in the lounge - small dance floor, an excellent Hungarian country band & dancers one evening in Budapest , port talks most evenings and other general interest talks local at times. Also probably one of the best/ funniest crew shows we have ever seen ! - well done all. The ''infinity'' pool was excellent and became a cinema in the evening with up to date movies or musical shows running in the evening. Highlights :- Swimming in the infinity pool with views of the river whilst cruising, the evening cruise in Budapest, the private concert in Vienna - the staff and attention to detail ! Also I would just add that all the places visited were clean, tidy, things worked, the roads/footpaths were excellent and people friendly (English spoken by most local people) generally plenty of public convenience's - but 50c coin needed. This sort of cruise will not suit anyone who is after '' big ship entertainment and facilities'' but for luxury /cultural travel with 5 star food and accommodation with like minded guests it will take some beating - well done Emerald ! From start to finish it was well organised, all transfers were well executed. .Apart from the actual airport, all luggage was handled by staff and put straight to cabin. Disembarking was good with time zones arranged and all luggage taken to the coach by staff. The cabin was good with two single beds together, storage under bed for cases meant you weren't bumping in to them, storage was more than adequate. Also a coffee table and two armchairs. The shower was powerful and good although the ensuite wasn't massive it was more than adequate. The cleaning was good with chocolate on pillow and bottled water replenished when required. All the staff were really friendly and helpful with no shirkers, nothing was too much trouble and more than attentive in the dinning room, refilling glasses as required, and serving the the Horizon lounge. The food was brilliant with a wide range of choice but if you couldn't find anything you liked, there was always steak, salmon or chicken available by request. The cruise director Jana was so friendly and enthusiastic as were all the various officers. It just felt like a family and a really nice one at that. There were lots of little "extras " which added to the value. On the final night at Budapest ,there was an evening sailing which was spectacular. Walking and bus tours were included in the cost and all were very imformative and interesting with plenty of freetime left to do what you wanted. I will definitely cruise with this Line again they have only been going since 2014 but they are great we have done sea cruising many times but this was our first river cruise. Read Less
