"Having sailed previously on a Viking River cruise from Bordeaux and one of their Mediterranean ocean cruises, we were delighted to find nearly "back to back" sailings on the Duoro and Rhone.Typically helpful but unobtrusive Viking staff (where DO they find these dedicated professionals!!?..."Read More
We had taken almost annually cruises on Oceania. We had heard many great things about river cruises and decided during COVID to book this to try them out. We tend to book 1 to 2 years in advance. Well we were surprised as Viking had a representative from the time we cleared customs, until we entered customs going home.
We also purchased a pre cruise in Nice and post in ...
After hearing many reports from others giving such good reviews of their River cruise holidays ,we thought we would give it a try after enjoying ocean cruises.
In fairness the weather was not as good as it should have been, however our experience was definitely below par for the amount we paid.
We were in a lovely, but very small balcony cabin, which felt quite confined. The food was not ...
We appreciate you taking the time to detail your recent voyage, FudgeB, as such feedback allows us to better understand how to deliver the five-star experience for which we strive. Your...
Lyon and other towns have so much history, especially as the headquarters of the French resistance during world war II. Viking does a great job of education and the guest lecturer that came aboard was very informative. I loved Arles, with the roman ruins and Van Gogh's historical presence, and saw where he painted several of his paintings. The ship was kept spectacularly clean by the staff! ...
We have taken many large ship ocean cruises but this was our first river cruise. The experience was amazing! Beautiful ship, great food, wonderful shore excursions and a super crew to facilitate the experience. The ship was modern, clean and easy to get around in. The food was great. Local, fresh and the dining room was arranged to facilitate meeting and enjoying the company of others. At ...
We like France and this was a part of France we hadn't seen before. The overall trip was excellent, as were the side excursions (weather and forest fires are completely outside of Viking's control, of course). The only downsides were the sailing dates ensured that we arrived in Lyon on Sunday and couldn't see the interior of the cathedral (many stores were closed, too). Similarly, we toured Vienne ...
We are a couple who made many ocean cruises but wanted a change so opted for Viking river cruise knowing how good their ocean going cruises are.To begin embarking was a breeze just turn up and board .First impressions of the boat were excellent gorgeous muted colors everywhere.Staff very friendly and most helpful. We had booked the top suite called explorer suite. The suite itself was very nice ...
This was our third time traveling on Viking and we expected a delightful, carefree experience. Lyon and Provence did not disappoint but Viking did. From having us wait at the airport for an hour before taking us to the ship (for a couple that missed their flight) but arriving on board 7 minutes after the light lunch was closed down. After traveling all night there was no food until dinner. For ...
Viking River Cruises never disappoint. The first-rate service, itinerary and cuisine makes a great vacation even better. From the Captain and his informative presentations to the cruise director with her wealth of information to the wait staff and their impeccable service to the room attendants and their top-notch service, everything is taken care of for you. Truly a first-class operation!! ...
The cabin was lovely, the service superb, the excursions excellent. As a healthcare provider, I found the daily testing to be spot on. However, on the last day, before disembarking from Lyon, a group of passengers turned up Covid +. One was in my party. With zero discussion, we all were transported off to various cities and into hotels at our expense (but not selected by us) for isolation. Some ...
Having sailed previously on a Viking River cruise from Bordeaux and one of their Mediterranean ocean cruises, we were delighted to find nearly "back to back" sailings on the Duoro and Rhone. This review relates to the Rhone cruise on board the Heimdal. As always, the food was a delicious blend of local specialties, Scandinavian delicacies, and rock solid American/European fare--well prepared and ...
