We have cruised with American Cruise Line (100 passengers) seven times so we were interested and excited to be going on the Inaugural cruise of the Pearl Mist of the Pearl Seas Cruise Line with 200 passengers. The trip was outstanding! From the time we embarked at Baltimore and disembarked in Halifax, it was 11 days of fun and relaxation. --the ship was lovely, with well-appointed cabins and lounges. Smaller rooms such as the library were also available where you could get away to read or just watch the world go by. --Our cabin was spacious with good lighting and plenty of drawer space. The beds were heavenly with sheets and a comforter comparable to a luxury hotel. The rooms were quiet, very conducive to sleeping. Our steward was a 5+, always available assisting us with any needs. --The dining room was pleasant in decor and ambiance; it was quiet so that conversations could flow easily at the table. The food was superb, with half portions if requested, and experienced wait staff who kept their eye on our table. --Port and shore excursions were great.....well organized, The tours were excellent and we had enough free time to wander or do extra things in port. Harold, our lecturer, was informative and a great speaker, holding our interest with some humor mixed in. --All of the staff on the ship were friendly and visible. They were very accommodating and helped to make the trip a great experience. --I was concerned about disembarkation at 6 in the morning, but a bus was awaiting us and our bags were ready to go out. It was a great send off! --The passengers were a "cut above,"...pleasant, interesting, and fun! Dress was smart casual, which was nice. --The trip was worth the price....beautiful ship, spacious cabins, lovely public rooms, with friendly and helpful staff! --We are looking forward to our next cruise on the Pearl Mist! From beginning to end, this cruise lived up to our expectations. Embarkation consisted of showing our passports and being escorted to our cabin. That simple. No lines or forms to fill out. The ship is brand new and the crew kept all the common rooms neat and sparkling clean the whole trip. Shore excursions were well planned and included interesting destinations. They did not take us to the middle of town and leave us to shop. For instance, in Boston, we were taken to Lexington and Concord with an extremely well informed guide. Being an inaugural cruise, there were glitches here and there, but all were addressed promptly. The heating and air conditioning systems seemed to be the most affected, but no one seemed to be uncomfortable for very long. In ports where there was a tender needed, the crew was most efficient in getting everyone on and off the tender with little or no trouble. The passengers were on the "mature" side and encountered no problems. Service was excellent on all counts. The entire crew was available to help with any request and I never saw one without a smile on their face. A very nice touch. Entertainment was provided each night after dinner and consisted mostly of musical entertainment. There was a guest lecturer on board and he provided some interesting insights to each of the ports we visited. During the cruise, Hurricane Arthur appeared but the Captain made the wise choice to leave our last port early and we were snugly tied up in Halifax to ride out the storm. No major damage. In summary, we were pleased with the entire cruise and have signed up for another sailing next year. Read Less

Our stateroom was very roomy and near the elevator which provide access to the dining room on the lower deck. Often, my husband and I elected to use the short stairway across from the elevator. The decks were perfect for reaching the lounge that always had coffee, soft drinks and snacks throughout the day. , The Library provided reading material and a quiet place to relax and use the computer. There were several quiet areas if an individual wished to just get a way from their stateroom for a while. We always found the disembarking area great for reaching the dock. There were crew who offered assistance if someone felt the need, particularly some who used wheel chairs and canes. Our entertainment was provided by a naturalist/historian who not only knew his subject( no matter what port we were in,) but was humorous and enjoyed by all age groups. The excursions in each port gave a great overview of the area as well as special notable sites . They were well selected. The food selection gave choices from the area or you could select from the menu a variety of other choices. The dining room waiters were young and very willing to bring second items if desired. We grew to love hearing them welcome us. Actually, I noticed that groups often returned to a particular table because of the thoughtfulness of a certain waiter. The cruise staff knew everyone and attempted to provide "all" of their needs. Housekeeping was done timely along with comfortable bedding---- and fresh towels were always available.!!!!! Read Less

Be careful on booking this ship. The service was excellent and the room was so noisy we could not sleep for nine nights. The room also flooded and it had to be dried for two days. First the excellent ● Everything from the exceptional food well-served (we chose to eat with Alvin for every meal because of his outstanding skill and demeanor) to the care and concern of the manager was top-drawer. (My wife is a trained chef and I know what it is like to be spoiled.) ● The shore excursions were very good and very well managed, It is not easy to find good attractions on many of the small ports of call, but your staff did. The buses were good with excellent leg room as were the guides. Your staff were omnipresent to make sure all shore excursions went well. ● The bar was well stocked with premium brands and they were well served with positive attitude. The snacks were interesting and good. ● All personnel had positive attitudes, including the cleaning ladies and maintenance staff, and all spoke very good English. Now to the “other cruise.” When we boarded, the room was fine and I was hopeful since earlier communications from reservations was that room 232 was supposed to be very good. It was until night one when the constant loud drum of the engines and the very high pitched EEE--WAA of the steering mechanism alerted us quickly that this was not a good room for sleep. After a first sleepless night, we were given ear plugs (being told that the ship was full and there was no place to which to move us) and that was our first clue that this was not a new issue with the Pearl Seas). The sleeplessness aided only be naps while the ship was stationary, continued for all but one night of the otherwise excellent cruise: the last night in Toronto was beautiful because the ship was in port. To make things a bit worse (when we thought we had experienced all of the negatives), on Sunday of the cruise we awoke at 5:50 AM to a flooded room. Even the drawers in the bathroom were filled with water that also extended to the entire front of cabin 232 from front door to balcony. It took two days of attentive maintenance to dry the room for proper use. The Cruise company offered a 25% discount and an upgrade for a future voyage if we chose to. Since the on-cruise discount was offered at 15% then all of the nights of sleeplessness and flooding was worth a net 10%. We rejected the offer. It should be noted that the cruise company had sued the builder for many defects including noise. So book at the front of the ship and don't expect any real responsiveness if you have significant problems.   Read Less

New ship with large cabins. Lots of food: Special menus for each day's breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also, warm cookies mid-morning, tea in the afternoon and happy hour before dinner with a variety of tasty food each evening. If you wanted, there was wine and beer at lunch and/or dinner and a full bar during happy hour which was all included. The service everywhere on the ship was tremendous from the cabin steward, the dining waiters, the tour directors, the administrative staff and the cruise director. Also the lecturer, Rae, was very informative about the ports of call and she gave lectures each day before our arrival at the next port. Getting on and off the ship was effortless with plenty of help. Bus transportation at the end was provided to the airports and/or hotels. The ports were very interesting and the tours very well planned with comfortable buses, nice drivers and knowledgeable tour guides. This was our first experience on a River Cruise as we previously have done many ocean cruises. We found this cruise to be very good and have booked another cruise with a different itinerary on this same ship. Read Less

This cruise was a dream come true, a cruise that combined both the St. Lawrence Seaway and the Great Lakes, in a brand new, state-of-the-art ship, a beautiful ship, the Pearl Mist, which holds a capacity of 200 passengers. We had great stops in Canada, beginning with Quebec City and then down to Montreal, Toronto, the Canadian side of Niagara Falls and then crossing into the Great Lakes, continuing with the beautiful port of Windsor, Little Current, Sault Ste Marie, then the American Mackinac Island, Holland Michigan and the finale, Chicago! We couldn't have asked for a better itinerary. Onboard, the staff was excellent, very attentive and friendly; the tour director, always available and "everyone's friend." We had an especially knowledgeable and likeable educator who lectured with wit and humor and yet so knowledgeable. She was a real joy and a highlight of the trip. Of course, food was plentiful and well prepared, with plenty to drink as well. Our staterooms were immense; didn't even seem like we were on a ship. Stateroom service was prompt and attentive. The ship was gorgeous and stood out in all the ports we stopped at. Shore excursions were available at all ports and we had excellent, new buses (generally two so that no one was crowded). We were never rushed and had knowledgeable local guides at all stops, prompt and friendly. And I was pleasantly surprised, upon disembarkation, the ship provided free transportation to the various Chicago airports and to our individual terminals. In summary, this was my fourth cruise on small-ship river/lake cruises and it was the most memorable, due to the beautiful ship, the friendly staff and the excellent itinerary. Read Less

This cruise gave us experiences in a new area with a special French flavor and culture! Although we prefer smaller passenger ships, we found the accommodations were very comfortable and the number of 200 passengers was not overwhelming. The atmosphere was warm and friendly. The lounges and libraries are most comfortable, convenient and well decorated. It was also possible to find a quiet corner when needed. One could also enjoy the daily gatherings, briefings, and special lectures and entertainment. One great comfort is the medical assistance offered. We had occasion to need help and the Medical Attendant was most efficient and knowledgeable which took care of the problem and gave us assurance. Shore excursions were interesting and colorful. The Ambassadortours in Nova Scotia were excellent, with the guides in Scottish outfits as they shared stories and places of interest. The most amazing experience was the stage production of La Fabuleuse in Saguenay Fjord, Quebec. It is a most-see event portraying the history of the town through the ages--complete with live animals and actual cars on the stage! Walking along the beach at Ile de la Madeleine took us back to shores of France. The crew members were all quick, efficient and friendly, even greeting us by name. Arrangements for special taxi service, scheduling, and shore tours were efficiently handled. We were pleased with the varied menus offered, especially appreciative of the vegetarian and sugar-free options. We truly enjoyed the cruise!   Read Less

Being aboard the new Pearl Mist gave us a wonderful exposure to this reagon. Small ship crusing at its best. The crew was the best we have experienced in our 10 cruises. This small ship takes you to the local places the big mega ships will never see. Excellent meal choices and you are able to make special requests that the chefs can create especially for you. It is so easy to visit all the small towns and land excursions are very interesting. This continues with on board entertainment nightly and daily lectures about each area we travel thru. A free cocktail hour before dinner lets you meet and greet so many of the passengers from all over the USA. We had such a great time we booked another cruise while on board so we could take advantage of the 15% plus discounts offered. Hope to see you soon on a next cruise, you wont be disappointed. The service in the dining room was exceptionally great. The service in our room was also great. Always available to get whatever we needed. 3. The dining selections were great. Also, free wine with meal was enjoyed by all at our table. 4. The shore excursions were so unique. We toured large cities, Toronto and Montreal, and Niagara Falls, just to name a few, but we also got to experience the small town atmosphere, ie Little Current, Clayton (NY) , Holland Michigan, where big cruise ships could not dock. That was really special. 5. For entertainment in the evenings, we enjoyed a two piece band that sang and played just great. Had a great time singing with them. 6. On our disembarkation, it was very nice for the cruise to take our bags from our room and load them onto the bus going to the airport. It was very nice not to have to deal with the luggage. We would very much recommend the Pearl Mist. We had a great experience.   Read Less

The cabins on the Pearl Mist are large and comfortable. There is free wireless. Wine is included at lunch and dinner as are cocktails for an hour before dinner. An excellent musical group was brought onboard in Halifax for one night. The food was good most of the time. That is about all the positive comments I have about this cruise. The tours were poorly chosen for the demographic on board and it seemed that no representatives of the cruise line had checked any of the ports or tours in advance. The first tender service was unbelievably bad but they worked that out by the next time we tendered so that is forgiven. The six lounges quoted are really fewer. The Caribbean Lounge is four chairs in a wide hallway. The largest lounge which is used for all gatherings is not large enough, even with all the extra chairs they have, to hold the 178 passengers who were on board. There is nowhere to stand in the room with the chairs so people had to stand down the hallway and hope to hear something. There is no laundry service (self or ship). Some of these reviews rate the spa and fitness as 5 but there is no spa and the only fitness is two machines on an open deck so I do not understand those ratings. The advertised golf putting green does not exist. There are no in room safes and no "do not disturbe" signs. The water is the shower does not hold the temperature. This is my 51st cruise and the worst ever. I have never given a bad review to any ship but this one holds itself our as a luxury cruise and charges as if it were but it is not. Read Less
