I chose the cruise to celebrate my son’s 55 birthday. He wanted to go to Cuba and we like Royal Caribbean. When Cuba got cancelled we decided to go anyway. This itinerary is not good. The Bahamas is a big nothing. The tour we went on was very poorly organized and we drove in circles for 3 hours. Coco Cay is beautiful, but they charged a lot of money extra for all the activities. The ship is old and very unorganized. The staff didn’t know where anything was. The food was very poor quality. It is almost impossible to get a salt-free diet. My husband has a heart condition and his food was special ordered but came out salty. None of the staff smiles or tries to be friendly. We asked for a sharing table because we like to meet people, so they put us at a table for 12 people and nobody else showed up. So after complaining to no avail, last night I went around the dining room and saw all the other big tables with only 2 people and invited others to join us, which they happily did. At that point I was admonished because I upset their system. My answer was that in the hospitality business they should have been more proactive. I will never go on this ship again. Read Less

Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly, but that was it. This trip was advertised 2 days in Cuba, and it was only 1 day. The 2nd day we departed at 5AM. The bar staff overall looked bored and/or angry, the hallways smelled like poop, my stateroom bathroom was moldy and gross, smelled like a public restroom that has never been cleaned. There was glass on the hallway in front of our stateroom and my friend cut her foot with it. Very unsatisfied. Food made me and 3 of my friends sick and overall was below average. Margaritas and cranberry juice tasted like pure chemicals. After that I didn't even feel like trying any of the other mixed drinks. On top of it, the water was yellow one night. The toilet water was yellow and the sink was too, not sure why... don't even wanna know. I called and complained and got 20% off my next cruise, valid for a year... I would not recommend this ship. Many other guests were complaining because they did not have hot water in their stateroom. There were a couple of good things: the shore excursions both in Key West (Parasailing) and in Cuba (Old Car tour) were very good for the price and the staff was amazing. The rock wall climbing staff was very nice and helpful and the shoes were clean and new. Finally, a shout-out to Mario and Maha from Phillippines, our servers, who were very happy and provided great service. Read Less

The Majesty of the Seas is one of Royal Caribbean's oldest ships, built in 1992. It not only shows its age, but its staff regard it as an old lady as well. Everything from its exterior to its interior to the very basic programs for passengers begs for some attention. I have high school children ages 15-18. They were all bored stiff. There's almost nothing for them to do but sit inside their room and play games on their phones. My wife and I also struggled to find activities. The cruise directors' half-hearted energy given to the creation of events even extends to those that are currently on the schedule. For example, I attended a salute to vets and emergency personnel. As one of the two cruise directors named the foreign wars that the attending vets were likely to have participated in, she forgot the Vietnam War. When this was mentioned to her, she had the audacity to argue about it. It's not like all of the assembled didn't hear the flub. The Majesty's food is average at best, while the service is abominable. We often had to wait for extended periods for our meals or drinks. To add insult to injury, only two in my family managed to avoid getting stomach issues that lasted for days after the cruise. Speaking of old age, the interior reminds me of a retirement home that hasn't been updated in decades. Rust is everywhere, frayed upholstery is common, and the stench... yup, that too was reminiscent of an elder care facility. As the many other reviewers here have stated, there is a serious sewage smell, i.e.: methane gas issue, on this ship. Almost as bad is the fact that staff will pretend as though your complaint is the first they've ever heard about this problem... but more on this aspect in a moment. The gas seems to primarily reside on deck two in the forward section of the ship. However, the first deck gets its fair share of it as well, and on particularly bad days (as it was on 4/26/2019) the smell makes its way all the way up to deck four to the customer service counter. And so you have to wonder -- given the numerous reviews here and the many fellow passengers who told me that they had also complained during my cruise -- how customer service can state with a straight face that they didn't know what I was talking about. To add insult to injury, I spoke to several maintenance workers who all stated that it's an ongoing problem aboard the ship. At one point the gas had become so thick within a cross corridor that, when I walked through it, I had to run out because I couldn't breathe... literally. Methane gas can displace oxygen in a confined space (such as a short hallway). That's why people often die when they fall into an open cesspool and can't climb out. In addition, methane is flammable. Immediately after this incident, I went up to customer service for the fourth time to complain. Yet this time, there was some urgency as the problem was now a public safety issue. I spoke with a young desk officer named Cristobal. Yet instead of writing down my complaint or even contacting maintenance immediately, Cristobal stood in front of me with a pugnacious grin and refused to even answer me. I repeated myself again, yet he would not address the issue at all. With no other choice, I warned him that I would file complaints against the cruise line unless he did something. He chose not to attempt resolution. The situation is one that can't be ignored, and so the next morning when the ship docked in Key West, FL, I immediately made calls to two government agencies and filed reports. SInce that time, I filed two additional complaints. If you've been a customer aboard this sorry excuse for a cruise ship and have also come in contact with the sewage / methane gas issue, you too should complain. Out of all of the agencies I filed reports with, the two best are the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Coast Guard. In fact the Coast Guard is directly responsible for such issues aboard any cruise ship that docks in a U.S. port. Read Less

My best friend and I choose this cruise because we have been wanting to go to Cuba. We both have been on this ship before. I am just going to get to the point. The second day I was showering and noticed the water was coming out the shower. No big deal i thought. step out the shower to find my feet under water. Well the room flooded and into the hallway. Our stateroom attendant was awesome. They brought in this huge blower to dry the floor in the room. Well we leave out for a couple of hours to come back to a room smelling like mildew. We told our attendant we cannot stay in the smelly room. We go and talk to the customer service people and at first they tell us they dont have a room to put us in. Then they blame my friend for the floor still being wet saying she turned the blower off(we weren't in the room). They were so nasty to her i was appalled. Somehow they found a room for us, so we had to pack up all our things and move to the new room. Our new stateroom attendant was so horrible he complained to customer service and had the tips taken off(we gave cash to the 1st attendant). The manager of the floor said he was going to give us 30% off a future cruise within the next year, cool. fast forward 3 weeks later and we got $77 off. This was the worse ship I have ever been on. The dinningroom service wasn't great either. I asked for some crackers to take my meds and they never brought them. But they had soup and crackers. They were lacking in service there too. just simple stuff like I asked for no ice and they bring ice(i am always cold). The guys couldn't even get our names right (kristin and rebecca). The food was just okay, and the waiters didn't listenq when i asked for certain things. To be honest i have sailed many ships with Royal and their customer service has gone down the drain big time. The best part of the cruise was the Havana excursion. we did the Havana bucket list and it was amazing. It is a long excursion but you get to do everything....smoke a cigar, rum tasting, site seeing, dancing and local food. worth the cost. Quick recap... cabin was horrible, service was horrible, dining was meh, excursion was awesome Read Less

This ship is old and either in need of a huge refurbish or it should just be retired. It was difficult for handicapped people to get from one floor to the next in certain areas because the elevators did not stop at every floor. The rooms were so small you could hardly walk between the wall and the bed. Even the room attendant had trouble making the bed. There is limited number of drawers and the shower had a curtain. There is a running deck over deck 6 rooms and every morning we were awakened by staff rolling carts or by joggers. The dining was also bad. In the captain's club, there was a long black hair baked into a piece of chicken wrapped in bacon. At the buffet there was hair in the fruit. The culture of the staff on this ship needs to be changed from the top down. While some of the staff was friendly and what you would expect, the majority looked liked they didn't want to be there and were at times rude. The wait staff we had in the dining room need to get other jobs. Couldn't get water refills, the head waiter never had anything but a scowl on his face. We ended up eating in the buffet after two nights. The buffet was limited in choices and the Gluten Free options were few. The ship does not tag which foods are gluten free, so every meal, a manager had to be called. They also did not have separate lines for diamond plus and higher at embarkation so it took an hour to get through the line. We did not realize it was spring break and the college kids were constantly drunk and somewhat rude--blocking aisles, etc. Never saw so much bare skin in one place. Could not get to a bar to order a drink. It was awful for the families with little kids on board. Read Less

This cruise was terrible. I've taken more than a dozen. This was the first on Royal Caribbean, and I won't be back. I'll start with the food. It was bad. Very very bad. All the meals were bad. Breakfast in the dining room had terrible service, coffee that was filled with grounds, and the food seemed like the pulled it off the buffet. And this was in the special dining room for people in suites! The buffet was better. Lunch was very repetitive and not kept full, so what you wanted was not available and you had to go back many times. They had 2 buffet lunches, which they alternated. Boring and not well done. And dinner was the worst. It seemed like they could cook a steak, but anything else was just bad. The salmon was way overcooked and cold. The salads were warm. They had so little staff that the (very nice) waitstaff were running a million miles an hour. They didn't even have anyone doing drinks, so the waitstaff were responsible for that, too. Unbelievable. During the day the cold drinks that were on the buffet were roped off when it wasn't meal time, so you couldn't get a drink between meals unless you paid for it at the bar. Unacceptable. There should be iced tea and lemonade available at all times (like all other cruises). It's not OK that drinks were only available when the buffet was open. They should be available 24/7. Now the decks. I have sensitive skin, and am unable to sit in full sun. Because the deck chairs were all TIED TOGETHER, I was unable to move the chair into the shady areas when they appeared. Why were they tied together? And why was a large portion of the upper deck roped off and unavailable? A sign said repairs were happening, and there were never any workers there. The best and largest area of shade was reserved for smokers, making it impossible to sit there if you didn't want to be asphyxiated. In addition, people were smoking on the upper decks in the non-smoking areas constantly and there was no policing of them. It definitely made the decks unfriendly. The decks were not clean on the at sea days, dirty dishes and glasses were everywhere, and there weren't any people taking drink orders. I was very disappointed at how small the pool was and how crowded. It closed too early, too. On the at sea days it was impossible to get near it. Since the climbing wall was so often closed, and it was on a great deck, I don't understand why there wasn't an adults only pool up there instead. I had been to Cozumel before, and it was its usual screaming self. If you walked around the town the shopowners screamed at you to come in. It was more unfriendly than I remember from previous visits. I will not go back. The other port was Costa Maya, a place I had never been. It was better than Cozumel in that there was less screaming, but whoever designed this fake place did a terrible job. It was so fake and built just to take money from tourists. I much prefer the private islands I have visited with other cruise lines. So there was something good- our room. But we paid a lot for it. This ship doesn't have regular rooms with balconies, so if you want one you have to get a junior suite. It was very nice, and had a couch and a chair, and even a bathtub! There was a refrigerator in the room that didn't work and didn't even have waters in it. The staff taking care of the rooms were lovely. I like shows on cruises and the ones on this ship were just OK. I thought the performers were talented, but the choreography was way too frenzied and the music was much to chopped up These people should have been allowed to sing full songs, not thrown together medleys. There were 2 comedians. One was good and had a great trick shtick. The other was uncomfortably dirty and I attended the "family" show. I would have been very unhappy with kids at that show. So it would be an understatement to say I am disappointed. I wrote to customer service and got nothing. When I wrote back again I got lip service- clearly a cut and paste email. My concerns were barely addressed. Like I said earlier, I have traveled on many cruise lines. Hands down, this was the worst. Even worse than the Carnival cruises I've been on. And it wasn't cheap. Everywhere you turned they were asking for more money. The drink and internet packages were way overpriced, too. Don't take this cruise. Don't go on Royal Caribbean. They don''t deserve your business. Read Less

I sailed on the Majesty of the Seas in December 2018 on the 5 Day Havana Overnight Cruise - and what a disappointment it was. I was so excited about my trip which ended up to be a cruise of sailing up and down the coast of the Florida - so glad a paid for that. While I realize that weather is not anyone's fault but and the safety of the passengers and crew are important, and a change was needed but don't not compensate for getting what you paid for. I paid for two days in Havana and didn't even get one and then just sailed up and down the coast of Florida. I could have booked a beach vacation if that is what I wanted. I could go on and on about the mess this cruise was - I booked an excursion in Havana that was supposed to 9 hours and was only about 8 hours with no explanation as to why. In addition to this there were so many other issues - we left the Port late by about 2 1/2 hrs, with no explanation, and when I reached out to Royal Caribbean about all the issues I find out it was due to the fact that they were loading water onto the ship - don't you think this should be done prior. Not to mention that the rooms on on the small side, we were only two people and were tight in there ( only one person was able to get dressed at a time) I can only imagine if there were more than two people in the room. The ports of call were Key West and Havana and yet we spent most of the time at sea - while sea days are nice on cruises to such close locations all the time at sea is not necessary, While stuck on the ship sailing up and down the coast of Florida, the stench on some the decks was absolutely discussing and with no explanation as to why. In addition some of the lower decks were flooding - which probably caused the stench. The only positive was the crew on the ship ( wait staff, cruise director and entertainment staff) were nice as could be and tried their best.. Even with this the Headliner shows were not the best - two comedians who were not even funny, one was even outright rude and disgusting and one who would not have been funny had it not been for the passenger that was chosen to help out with his act. After all this when I reached out to Royal Caribbean it took almost 2 weeks for someone to get back to me and then they were nasty as anything, Should I ever go on another cruise I will think twice before sailing with Royal Caribbean, Read Less

We have always enjoyed RC but this cruising was such a disappointment with the exception of the cruise ports. We thoroughly enjoyed Havana! All crew members that we encountered were polite and helpful - no issues at all with crew members. I guess we have been spoiled with other cruises as they were on larger/newer ships but, Majesty IS part of RC and should be held to the same high standards of the brand. Main issues were: (1) The quality of the food in the main dining room was such a bland, cold, and unexciting experience. On past cruises, dining was an "event" for us to relax and enjoy dishes that were unusual and delicious. This cruise, we had the 2nd dining and our food tasted like it had been sitting under a warming lamp for hours. Lukewarm, plain, and bland are the best descriptors for our meals throughout the trip. Nothing exciting on the menu! The strip steak was thin, fatty, and with gristle throughout on both nights that I ordered. The best food that we had was the sautéed spinach on the buffet - it was hot, fresh, and well seasoned and the pumpkin seed rolls were fresh! (2) We often encountered the smell of sewage on our floor. (3) The room pictures advertised showed a window and not a portal for our room type. We generally reserve a balcony or suites but had to take an ocean view room as the suites were sold out and no balconies available. The room interior was clean - that is the only positive that I can provide. The common areas appear to have been updated somewhat but the rooms do not appear to have been updated since the 1980's. Horrible mattress. (4) Television channels - you have the best internet available on a cruise, but you can't have any television channel selections? We have always had at least one movie channel and one network station. (5) On the day at sea, Deck 11 was completely bombarded with cruisers. The pool and hot tub were beyond capacity as only one pool was open. Instead of a day of sea, find another port! The day at sea was not a relaxing event for the majority given the lack of adequate seating available and amenities available for use. We spoke to many who were as frustrated as us. Read Less

My Gf and I just got back from a 5 day Cruise which departed from Tampa, with stops in the Florida keys and Cuba We are 26 and 29, it was my 4th cruise and her 1st, we are both from the North East, and as a precursor to the food review, we both have eaten some of the freshest in the country. This is mostly a negative review of the ship due to our age range, BUT the service was EXCELLENT, the wait staff and house keeping were amazing and I gave them great reviews and tips. This would be best for families with young kids, and older couples 40+ (or those 30 year olds who are old souls). The 18-35 range couples or friends group's should find a better ship!!! The only good thing was the cheap price so we got what we paid for. The ship is really old and small, the smallest I've been on. It looks and shows its age, there was not a whole lot to do at our one day at sea as compared to any other cruise I've been on, and thats not a slight against RC, its just against this ship because its so old and s mall. We had an ocean view room which was very cramped, and since it was built in the early 90s before cell phones were always around, there are only 2 outlets on the dresser table. None by the bed side. I stayed in a windowless room on carnival which had a ton more space than this. The bed was also two twins put together so the divide in the middle got annoying at night. There were mostly families and older couples 40+, and most of the shows and dance parties were 70s themes so we did not enjoy those since we didn't grow up in those times to know most of the music or references. The food was very VERY sub par. The buffet foods were mostly bland and over cooked, The pizza and fried foods were the best part. I know buffets are hard to cook for, but on my other cruises I had a great time at the buffets, tho those were newer ships I was on. All the main breakfast staples for carbs, pancake, french toast, biscuit, waffles were very dry, and tasteless. The bacon was over crispy and fell apart when you tried to eat it. Fresh fruits were nice and fresh, and the sausage was pretty decent, but the meats and carbs were not. Lunch buffet was also just OK. The fried foods were good, and the salad selection was great. The carved meats were not seasoned and very tough. Smelled and looked good, but didn't taste so great. Dinner at the main dining room was interesting. You have the reserved which is 530p or 8p or You can sit whenever between 530-9p in a separate dining room. Somehow we were put in th 530p time and had no idea. They did a good job to change us to 8pm. The weird part of this cruise, and im sure its because its so old and small, is that we shared a table with 2 other couples. There was not a single two person table. So many people were not a fan of it and bailed on the dining, or asked for it to change. I wont lie I was not a fan at first because its super weird. We expected some privacy at our table. It ended up being fine tho because the other two couples were pleasant and the best part of the dinner. The food.... again has mediocre. DO NOT GET ANY SEAFOOD NO MATTER WHAT. The cod fitter and seafood cake apps were AWFUL. it tased fishy, which means the seafood was old or not good prior to it being cooked. I don't know if seafood has grades like beef, but these would be the lowest. It tasted very fishy and very salty like sea water. Someone tried the barramundi fish which smelled TERRIBLE and tasted just as bad. They didn't finish the food and got a steak instead. DONT GET THE LOBSTER, they have 3 upcharged dinners you can get every night, two if the choices had lobster. 3 people had it, including my GF and NONE liked it. It smelled fishy, and tasted just as worse. Being from new england, we get some of the best maine lobster, and this was tough and smelly. Its a shame and disgrace to the lobster. They definitely had these lobster sitting around for months, thawed it, then served them. I did enjoy the Beef tenderloin and strip loin. As well as the desserts. The apple pie was very waxy and chewy so stay away from that. The Comedian was pretty good, and the shows were good too, but as I said, its mostly 70s theme shows so if you don't know much about that time period then you might want to pass on it. The adult games shows were awesome, and the marriage game show was also, but there were not many, again because of the smaller ship size there are less activities than a medium or larger ship. Most things on the daily schedule were very kid oriented and for older people. Trivia was enjoyable, but each trivia games lasted 20 minutes so not something for a lasting entertainment value. There is only one pool and its lays crowded with no swimming, just people sitting in it. No adult only pools. Key West was great, RC didnt offer any snorkel or water exurcsion similar to it so we booked a snorkel there a 3rd party which was excellent. They left right from the cruise pier area, and got back with plenty of time to spare. Cuba was an excellent experience, and is the only reason, in addition to the cheap price, we picked this particular cruise. Having said all this I would go on RC again, with a more modern ship. Incase anyone was wondering we didn't get internet but it was 15.99/day or 18.99 with streaming capabilities. Read Less

Was emailed a week before sailing we had to book an excursion through the ship to get off in Cuba, called Royal Caribbean they said same thing. Got to the ship and crew told us we didn't need to book anything to leave the ship. Tried to get our money back but staff didn't believe us and we were stuck. By the way we had 9 people in our party, we are only out $600.00. DJ in nightclub sucked, one night was 70's , played five 70's songs then played current crap. There was another lounge playing the Latin and current music, why have two lounges playing the same stuff. Dance floor was pack during 70's songs and then everyone left when DJ started playing Justin Beiber, I'm pretty sure he wasn't even born in the 70's. Read Less

The internet package was unreliable and service desk hours were unmanned during posted hours to be there. Their L2 Internet help desk doesn’t work on weekends so if the issue is anything beyond troubles logging in, they cannot help you. You can’t order excursions from the TV or view the daily compass which both activities take away from precious vacation time to seek them out elsewhere. The activities are lacking. There are minimal shows, minimal entertainment, minimal excitement. The ship is old and outdated. The beds are rock solid hard. It is a very old, tired ship. We have cruised a lot over the last 10 years (primarily Celebrity & Carnival) and this was the worst cruise we have ever done. It was a family reunion and we wanted it to be special but the food was bland, the entertainment was poor (especially the kid's entertainment which was almost non existent) and the waiters seemed very stressed and also ill informed about wine. Took them over 5 minutes in the dining room to search for & find a wine list. They wanted us to order wine without knowing what we would get. They just wanted us to order "red" or "white". The excursion in Havana that we had booked several weeks ahead of time was a complete waste time & money. We booked the extended tour of 5 hours which should have included a one hour shopping trip to a market where we had planned to shop for souvenirs with our two granddaughters. The shopping trip was eliminated and not replaced with anything else. The "5 hour trip " started at 10 a.m. and finished at 1.38 p.m. with the tour guide promising to show us an area for shopping for souvenirs as she led other members of our tour group to a restaurant she had persuaded them to eat at. We walked through the back streets in the searing heat for over 10 minutes away from the ship with no sign of shops so, as there were no opportunities to shop where we were being led & several of our party were retirees, we decided to turn around & struggled back to the ship. Our souvenirs of Cuba had to be purchased at the very limited shops in the cruise terminal. All we saw of Havana was a couple of forts and two drink stands by the side of the road and a cemetery. The tour description in the Royal Caribbean literature bore no resemblance to where we were taken on the actual tour. To add insult to injury, when we returned to the ship, on the RC television channel this excursion was still being advertised as per the RC literature (including the opportunity to shop which in actual fact never materialized. Disembarkation was a shambles. We were left in the theatre with no cruise member present to give us information as to how and when to leave the ship. After sitting in the theater with other guests for over half an hour awaiting being called to leave, we finally took matters into our own hands and joined the line leaving the ship. In conversation with other guests, they all appeared to do the same thing because of lack of Royal Caribbean direction. This was first cruise with Royal Caribbean and our last. Read Less

Chose this cruise for the fact that it is "advertised" as 3 days in Cuba. When looking for different cruises, we selected Royal due to its reputation and the 3 day stay vs Carnivals 2 day stay. They tried to force us to buy excursions in Cuba. We were told we couldnt leave the ship without it (LIE). Advertised as 5 specialty dining areas (LIE). The food was bland and at times not hot enough; but the service was great. I was not satisfied with Royal Caribbean at all. I've sailed with Carnival and Norweigan and this was by far the worse. Yeah yeah it's an older ship. That shouldnt matter. Maybe it's my demographic and I may be biased; but that should matter. I was shocked that there were only maybe 5 or 6 decks with rooms. Because the ship is smaller, it seemed like everyone was on top of one another the first day. There is one main (small) pool, a kiddie pool on the other side, and 4 jacuzzis. There is a bar on either side of the pool area. The comedy show was TRASH. Maybe it you're a retired person the jokes might hit home. The rest of the entertainment crew was AWESOME. The staff was GREAT. Being that the ship is small (very) there is a homely feel to the ship. I would not recommend this cruise to any young adults as the programming was boring and there were a lot of older people on this cruiseline. And then I realized I could write more than 150 words.....let's go! Cuba is a very beautiful. Like everyone else says it is a city suspended in the 50s. I felt bad for the citizens at first but quickly realized they arent as materialistic as the rest of the world and were content. DO NOT PAY FOR A TOUR. As soon as you get off the ship walk to the parque central hotel. Try to get a 5 hour wifi card (you get a free drink from the bar with purchase). DOWNLOAD OF CUBA OFFLINE" (MAKE SURE TO DISCONNECT WHEN NOT USING THE INTERNET OR YOUR TIME WILL RUNOUT. ALSO YOU CAN ONLY GET ACCESS NEAR NEWER BUILDINGS OR HOTELS) better to download it before you leave the states). What a great app. It showed us our current location even without internet. We were able to search famous locations as well as well known spots. THIS APP WAS A LIFE SAVER FOR SURE. Beware of cab drivers. They overcharge you if they think you're a tourist. You can probably get away with hiring a driver for the day. Pay them half up front and the rest later (30 cuc might be good). Back to the parque central hotel. Outside of the hotel there are two buses. One bus takes you on a tour of cuba. It is an air conditioned coach with a bathroom. It cost 10 cuc roundtrip! The second bus will take you to the Santa Marie beach for 5 cuc roundtrip. Dont be tempted to get off at the first few stops. GET OFF AT THE TROPICANA HOTEL (Might have spelt it wrong). MOST OF THE SOUVENIRS THERE ARE MARKED HIGHER THAN IN HAVANA. The beach is beautiful. You can get 2 beach chairs and an umbrella for 4 cuc. They will try to charge you more. DONT BUY THE COCONUT AND RUM. IT WAS HORRIBLE AND HOT. They have catamarans, kayaks, and there were sailboats giving rides. The police were on the beach and everyone was friendly. The last bus back to havana is at 6pm and the lines may be long. Leave sooner. I recommend not telling people you're american or flaunting it as people will follow you and try to get you to go places to buy stuff or to eat. They seem harmless though. Becareful. I hope this helps someone out there. Bring a rag or hand towel to wipe off sweat. Most places are not air conditioned. Carry sunscreen, bug repellent, TISSUE, wipes, and hand sanitizer. Read Less

Too many bars and drunk people, crowded and disgusting pools, no adult movies, no place to eat outside, no religious services of any kind, no variety of music offerings, mediocre food at Marketplace and average in dining room, no library or newspapers, poolside bathrooms weren't cleaned often enough, toilet flushing was inadequate and LOUD, similar to those on an airplane. You could hear neighboring cabins flushing. There was no laundry bag or service, hot tubs were filled with kids, loud music and yelling into microphone interrupted dinner on two evenings, and the overall cleanliness and upkeep of ship was lacking. This cruise is NOT for adults who don't drink to get drunk. Too many kids (400 on our cruise) who were loud and unaccompanied by their parents. The main focus on this cruise was selling liquor, and lots of it. Horrible coffee in Marketplace forced us to buy overpriced coffee at Latte-tudes. We thought the entertainment was very good, the beds were comfortable and there was good A/C in our cabin. RC is clearly not for us, and we will never return. Read Less

Cruise Staff were excellent in service. There was not a lot of variety of activities compared to other cruise lines we have traveled with. The ships appeareance is old in our opinion. The casino was smaller than other cruise lines we traveled with in our opinion. The food quality was average. Their wasn’t much different types of cuisines, so after 2 days, we were bored of the food choices. Guest relations had excellent customer service. The person who cleaned our room was friendly and our room was clean. The tv in our room is small and there were not a lot of channels to watch. The room service isn’t free. We had to pay a room service charge. The kids camp program was excellent. The excursion prices were expensive. Overall We didn’t have a good vacation. Next time, we will research online what other people say in their opinion on which cruises they had thought were excellent. Read Less

Ship is too small and lacks adequate facilities (only one soda machine on the entire ship, not enough bathrooms in common areas, not enough seating in Windjammer or around the pool). There was a sewer smell in the hallways . In the rooms there wasnt enough storage space. The beds were different heights and you could tell where the twin bed ended. Only had 3 small hot tubs and they were always full. The excursions time was printed incorrectly for the excursion that we purchased and we missed the excursions. The food in the main dining was just okay, nothing spectacular. The ship was currently refurbished but the rooms were not.... they are very outdated. The entertainment was good and the cruise director ws great. But the negatives far outweighed the positives. Would not recommend this ship. Honestly we would have been better off going to a resort in Mexico. Read Less

Me and 33 of my friends went aboard this cruise to travel to Cuba for my birthday. Worst decision ever. This ship should be retired. The hallways smell like someone has left a dirty diaper in them (smells like sewage). The entire ship was HOT. I have never been on a cruise ship that you didn't need a jacket and in some areas a COAT. Not on this ship. It was HOT. When you dock, your entire cabin fills with the smell of gas. My roommate almost had an asthma attack being awakened by the smell of gas filling our cabin. The crew was unfriendly and disgruntled acting. Many of them you could see the unhappiness on their faces. It wasn't as clean as some ships I have been on. The toilets were backing up everywhere and I suspect the big fans that were drying the floors in the common areas was due to some toilet overflowing. The big fans were drying carpet the entire cruise. The food was so-so, the entertainment was so-so, but that's to be expected for the size of the ship. There were roaches in our cabin, it wasn't cleaned. There were cigarette packages under the bed and neither of us smoke. Overall we had a good time, but it was nothing due to Royal Caribbean. To top it off. Upon our return 13 of the 34 are sick. I suspect they have norovirus, but not all of them went to the doctor.. Read Less

Prior to the Cuba trip, we had been on 1 celebrity cruise, 1 NCL cruise and 3 Carnival cruises. This was our first experience with Royal Caribbean. It is a complete disaster! First was the long line at Tampa port. Took us two hours to get on the ship, even slower than the much bigger Port of Miami! Then come the small cabins....no not small, they are TINY! We had the ocean view cabins on the fourth floor, which is very convenient, close to everything. However, it's only 120sf, extremely difficult for three people to maneuver. But since it's either that or double priced suites, we did not have much choice. Next surprise was the cold bread and chilled butter in the plastic square box. On Carnival we always had warm bread and soft butter. After I complained they finally gave us warm bread on the last night. More disappointment was the shore excursion in Cuba. We were led to believe that without a Cuban guide, we could not wander on shore. So we booked a city tour. It was mostly in the bus, and the few stops were boring government appointed "revolution pride" kind of places that no one wants to see. Of all the well built Spanish style buildings, we stopped at NONE of them. Many of these buildings are close to be "ruins" due to disappear in recent decades. We also arrived at the Rainiest Month of May, which no one bother to tell us, so it rained both afternoons we were in Cuba. LAST BUT THE WORST was, we went as a party of 12. Four (4) of us got ill on board, with fever and sore throat that hit us pretty quick. Two (2) of us had sore throat but did not get sick while on the ship. It was Strep Throat, I came to find out after we got off the ship. It's been 3 days since then, and I am STILL COUGHING. (NO ONE got sick on any of the other cruises we had been on in the last 3 years.) If there is anything I could suggest, is that DON'T go on this ship. ALSO don't book their shore excursions, just go there and hire a vintage car taxi or horse carriage to take you around the city, and stop where YOU want to stop, not where THE GOVERNMENT wants you stop. Plus it would be a LOT cheaper! Read Less

Going to Cuba was a bucket list item of mine. I've always wanted to go, but never could. Then it opened up, and best of all, a reasonably priced Royal Caribbean cruise could take me there from my hometown of Tampa! What could be better? Well let me tell you, Cuba was spectacular, but find a different way to get there. Majesty of the seas is a 70,000 ton ship that carries almost as many people (2,700) as the 130,000 ton ships (Carnival Breeze, Regal Princess: carry approx 3,200-3,500) but with only half the size. The ship feels completely crowded everywhere you go. Want a table at the buffet? best of luck! In addition, the security staff is grossly incompetent. It took 2 hours to board the ship in Tampa. It took well over an hour to board in Havana, Cuba. It was a single file line that went back and forth the length of the ship 4 times to get back on board. They only had one single line to get back on the ship... for almost 3,000 people. Then, they tried to blame Cuba customs. But nope, this was after Cuba customs (which by the way just waives everyone through). Fine, Cuba is new, but then the ship went to Cozumel. Every ship goes to Cozumel. So guess what.... another single file line with 1,000 people trying to get back onboard as heavy rain fell on us. Finally, some officer must have seen something from the bridge, because the crew finally opened a second line. We had some other issues too. During our time in Cuba, we could smell fuel or oil in our cabin, an inside stateroom. In addition, the ship rocked so bad that my wife, who was on her 7th cruise, got seasick for the first time ever. Let's not forget the cabin. I have never had such a small cabin. The bed was pushed together but was so small that one half (my half) was surrounded on 3 sides by the wall. Then, the shower was so small that every time she ship rocked that nasty curtain would rub against me (eeewwwww). Honestly, I love cruising. I absolutely love it! Yet, this cruise was so bad, that I'm rethinking whether I even want to go again at all. Fortunately, I already have a 10 night Panama Canal trip booked with Princess, my favorite line, later this year. Seriously, this cruise was terrible. I usually try to make the best of anything, but even I snapped on this cruise. It was so bad. Re: the ports Havana, Cuba: Simply incredible! Old cars everywhere. It's very safe. Like being in Europe but so much closer. I strongly recommend going to Cuba. Cozumel, Mexico: An oldie and a goodie. We did snorkeling then went to Senior Frog's. Always a good time. Read Less

We have previously been on a wonderful Mediterranean cruise with Royal Caribean November 2016. As a final part of our Florida holiday, we decided as a treat to do the 3 day cruise around the Bahamas. I can safely say that this cruise was not at all relaxing or enjoyable due to the following reasons: 1. When we boarded the boat the majority of the occupants were very drunk/ the language was disgusting and vulgar. We did our safety procedures, which involves meeting by your life boat to insure that in case of an emergency you know where to go. As you can imagine this was a joke due to the high amounts of alcohol that most guests had already consumed. How a company can do a mandatory safety procedure after large amounts of alcohol has been served is beyond me. 2. Boat clenleness: The boat seemed to need little bits of repair work done in our state room. Not only was the floor cracked, our toilet seat was broken (in fact the majority of the female toilets on the boat had broken seats) and our towels were dirty. Sewage smell: Our cabin was on level 2 and for some reason had a smell of sewage in the corridor. Cannabis smell: One evening when we were heading for our meal there was a strong smell of cannabis in the corridor on level 2. Even though this is completely unacceptable, it was a welcomed relief to the sewage smell. 3. Shore excursions: my husband booked an excursion for us one month in advance. We did not have any information left in our room the night before (which they usually do). When we inquired at guest relations they told us that we were mistaken and that we did not have a booking. This resulted in my husband having to pay to use their Wi-Fi, log in to his computer to not only show them an email from them to confirm but also the payment coming out. I should mention that at this time we had already missed the excursion departure time. Once we had proven our booking it took 3 separate employees to be able to tell us that it was not their fault but it had been a system error. I had to inquire about a refund and what they were going to do to resolve this. We were made to feel that this was our fault some how. They also informed us that we would have to contact Royal Carribean once we get back to the UK about our refund! 4. Boat employees: on the first morning of our cruise we decided to have breakfast in our room. When our breakfast was delivered the staff member was quite rude, we asked where the remaining parts of our breakfast were and she told us to call room service. We called room service to let them know that half our items were missing and that we also need cutlery. By the time this arrived my breakfast was cold. Waiting staff: during our evening meal which we pre booked in the formal dining room we were constantly asked to make sure that we left them a good review which became more and more irritating. On our last evening our waiter told us to leave him a tip in an envelope (these envelopes had been left in our room already). Our waiter told us to make sure that we put his name on it and hand it to guest relations. I should mention that our envelope already had a name written on it..and it was not our waiters name and neither did we write this! 5. Cruise Atmosphere: during each evening meal as soon as our main course arrived music started being blasted through a speaker directly above our head to encourage us to get up and dance. The staff were expected to dance and perform for diners which was incredibly uncomfortable to watch. On the eve of the formal attire all guests and staff were expected to get up and dance the Macarena! This did not seem to fit the 'formal attire' atmosphere you would expect. We have another cruise booked with Royal Carribean September 2018 which we will now be cancelling due to the experience. Read Less

I was very disappointed with this ship. I have a frequent cruiser and this was my 1st time on RCL. My expectations were higher and they didn’t meet the requirements. I would expect the food and cleanliness out of Carnival being not so good. I’m not sure if it’s the ship that was choosen or the cruise line. I was not impressed at all. They have limited activities and they charge for things most Cruises lines don’t charge for like ironing. The presentation of the food in the windjammer was good. The taste was not good, very bland reminds me of cafeteria food. The bathrooms on the ship were not cleaned at all, both stall on the 9th deck had feces in the toilet. This ship to me needs to be updated. They make you pay $9.99 to eat at Johnny Rockets. The food was ok, but no tables were clean and they only had 2 other guest beside me and my husband. They cleaned out a spot for us, but they shouldn’t have the tables dirty if no one is even really there to dine. I can go on and on, but overall I have a bad experience. Read Less

We were very excited about snorkeling at CocoCay. We even purchased snorkeling gear. We were notified the evening before that we wouldn't go for safety reasons. DISAPPOINTMENT. AND IT WAS NOT COMPENSATED FOR. An added movie and the like. Not worth the money we paid for them to bring us to two ports and only get brought to one. It seems as though they could have brought us somewhere instead of cococay or done partial refunds or even partial credit for a future cruise. But NOTHING. No compensation even when we talked to guest services and called customer service after. Unimpressed. Crowded hot tubs and the hallways outside our room literally smelled like poop. Dining room service was good for the record. Everything was highly scheduled, adding too much stress to the day. The overall ship was too crowded for the capacity of people. The buffet area was overpacked. Even the art auction was overpacked. Husband was NOT a fan of the coffee. We decided to buy a Starbucks coffee package #takeallourmoneyRC. The elevators to get to the windjammer took FOREVER to get. Pizza tasted like low grade frozen pizza. Read Less

This was a first-time cruise, and we chose Royal Caribbean for the destinations of Coco Cay and Nassau. We had two special occasions that we received little to no accommodation with: a wedding proposal and a birthday. Despite our requests, we did not gain any significant help from Guest Services and Photography to make these moments extra special. Also, on the evening of May 1st, $20 was stolen out of our wallet in the cabin. Additionally, our van broke down during the Charm & Beauty of Nassau excursion. The tour started late, and was to run from 10:45 to 1:45 pm. Instead, it went on to take up a great part of our day, and ended at 3 p.m. Nassau shops closed at 6 p.m, and the weather was too rainy for the beach. This largely forced us to go back on the ship. We did not know that Coco Cay was to be cancelled. One of two of the ports (Coco Cay) was entirely cancelled due to inclement weather. In sum, we were only able to enjoy any port of call for a total of about 5 hours. (On a four day trip!) We look forward to someday snorkeling the beautiful waters of the Bahamas, but will consider another cruise line altogether. Read Less

I have cruised many times prior and even cruised on Royal Caribbean before. No other cruise that I have taken was as bad as this one. Aside from being thankful I was safe and came home to my family the cruise really was not what I had expected. I hold RC to a higher standard then other lines because they pride themselves on being better than the rest! Being that I have cruised with them prior I too believed that they take pride in making sure they provide a quality and enjoyable cruise for adults as well as families. This cruise lacked events, quality food, ample food and surely did not cater to their itinerary. Knowing people would be out until late the shut down the restaurant that serves buffet style food which left people to eat pizza (taste like cardboard) tacos which was always a sloppy mess in that area or pay to go to Johnny rockets. No clubs on board, simple small area bars that they tried to get everyone together in. Kids as well as adults were unable to get ice cream whenever they wanted unless they paid for Ben and Jerry’s and even they closed early. You know pay for towels and they do not hesitate to apply a towel charge to you even when your on board knowing the towel couldn’t have left it’s somewhere on someone else’s chair because folks just take your towel when you move around. The lines are ridiculous to take to guest services in regards to that matter to have charges removed only for them to tell you to stand in line again the next day at the towel station to let them know. We booked massages on the beach at Coco Key and the therapist were awesome but the facility is nasty. The way it is presented you would think you would be in a secluded area in a cabana in the water or right there close by. You in a little wooden shack with cheap curtains and ridiculous blinds. You get charged a 18% gratuity (which the girls deserved for having to even work in that nasty place). In my opinion of your going to offer a service at least make it a clean facility not a shack where you have men working at less that 200ft away because they are building up the island. You can’t relax because you hear the banging from the workers. Usually cruise ships have events for all ages the teen room looked so boring. Unlike the inviting look that other ships provide. Other ships draw the attention of the youth. We asked if the ship had water slides they said yes and sadly it was for toddlers young children they did have rock climbing and basketball with ping pong and corn hole. First night was 70’s night..... ok boogie wonderland performance was fun and brought back good tunes of my parents music.... then they had a 70’s party, ok well what about people that want to hear something other than disco. They didn’t have anything else. They have a Latin bar but no night was there Latin dancing in there. The fair well party was basic many gathered drunk and made the best of it but again nothing like parties we have ever had in the past. Music was mainly songs that had a dance to it..(cha-cha slide, electric slide) I can go on and on but I will never take this cruise or sail on this ship again. Only specialty restaurant was Johnny Rockets... Room Service was a hour and a half wait and they now charge a $7.95 delivery charge. But the food gets delivered cold. There is no longer a room to iron or wash your clothes. It is strictly dry cleaning service so brace yourself to pay. Shops had cheap items prices hi... however they do offer Nike, Jordan and Nautica apparel now. At one point the elevators reeked of vomit and also the main stairs. Photograhy was at a minimal. Hardly seen anyone to capture moments etc. we paid for the lounge chair with umbrellas. The young lady Kelly was so accommodating at coco key.... that side of the beach was awesome, highly recommended. The little golf trolley they have for shuttles are always available and the gentleman are very nice and pleasing to speak with. Some of the woman that work there on the island selling items are not the easiest to deal with however the lady directly in the front with the ropes T-shirt’s is very nice and super friendly. I can continue to go on and on about other issues and lack of attention to their customers but I am not allowing myself any more time to give to Royal Carribean. Read Less
