We chose this cruise as 13 days is a nice long cruise and we enjoy sea days. We stayed 3 nights in Dubai which we thoroughly enjoyed, we also stayed in Barcelona before our short fllght back to Malaga. We arrived before the amended time but we were able to embark very quickly. We had a junior suite which was very nice, and our attendant looked after us. We enjoyed the food in the windjammer, and usually had breakfast in the dining room at a more sedate pace, I tend to eat too much in the windjammer. Cannot complain about the food. In the evening we were on deck 5 and our waiters were brilliant, very attentive and always there to ask us if we wanted more drinks. Th entertainment in the theatre was good. My only complaint was that the 70s night in the Centrum was when we were having dinner so missed it. Alex the entertainment manager was great but the 2 girls he had were pretty useless and we watched one who was supposed to be teaching a dance and getting client participation just looked at herself in the mirror the whole time. The two of them showed no great interest, in my opinion. The colouring in and paper aeroplane making and throwing bean bags and other garden games were not what I expected, therefore did not participate. There should have been a sexy man competition on deck but apparently the staff never bothered to stir up enthusiasm so it did not take place. This is the first cruise we have been on where there were no sail away parties, let alone the very last departure from Malta. Usually there is keep fit or dancing on deck but I did not see that. On deck, one activities staff member tried asking questions and we had to put our hands up to give him an answer, an impossibe job as people were shouting out the answers. He had no personality or interest. The bar staff we met were all very pleasant and helpful. Read Less

This was a repositioning cruise and was very good value We had a wonderful experience meeting friendly people from many countries The crew and staff left nothing to chance and were very helpful and friendly As it was only our 2nd cruise we loved the whole trip We were nine days at sea before we arrived at Athens but personally I found it quite restful Some found it too long without a stop. The speciallity restaurants were excellent with helpful waiting staff If i had one complaint it is that the drink prices are pretty high which surprises me as I would expect them to be duty free at sea.The entertainment could have been better but it was`nt important to us Thoroughly enjoyed our cruise with the Suez Canal Passage being the highlight We had a lovely Shore excursion in Athens with a lovely guide All glad to reach land Looking forward to our next cruise with Royal Carribean Read Less

Yes, Legend of the Seas is old and yes stocks were running low, I get that, but people who booked on the last few legs knew what they were in for. I get tired of all the complaints about these things, we all knew what we were getting. I thoroughly enjoyed my last cruise on this fine lady of the seas under the Royal brand and everything she is about. I love the vision class ships and are sad to see her go. I hope the new owners treat her with the love and care she deserves. The crew worked hard to make our cruise a pleasure and most of the shows were good. The food was still cooked well and maintained the quality we have come to know. Cruising is a mixed bag, we don't know what we are going to get, but it is our job to make the most of it and enjoy it and accept that sometimes things just don't go the way we want it to. Read Less

We thought a cruise from Dubai through Suez Canal and the Med with stops in Greece and Malta would be great. Also with hotel stays in Dubai & Barcelona would be good to do. The 3 day stay in Dubai was great and than we boarded the ship. It was a very tired ship and the conditions very horrible. Complained to guest relations and are told " you get what you pay for " Stressed before the cruise started i got sick and we disembarked. We later found out that this was the last cruise for this ship as it was sold. We complained to Royal Caribbean through our travel agent and were told that they can't do anything about it. We travelled all the way from Vancouver, Canada to Dubai for this memorable cruise for my wife, and were very disappointed with the whole experience. We have done many a cruises and this was the worst ! No Royal Caribbean again. Read Less

We chose this cruise to see the Suez Canal. The ship is 20 years old and was on its last Royal Caribbean cruise. The ship seemed dated, crowded, and run down. We had 2 days in Dubai before we boarded, and 2 days in Barcelona when we disembarked. Every day all day the staff tried to sell upgrades to the premier restaurants and the spa services. There were 8 long days at sea on an old ship with a tired staff before the 1st port. We had dinner each night in the dining room with a great group of new friends. The food was always substandard. The buffet at breakfast and lunch was OK, little variety. The service by the housekeeping staff was very good. We enjoyed the entertainment and enrichment seminars. Our best days were going through the Suez and our stops in Malta and Athens. We enjoyed our coffee and fruit each morning in our cabin. The weather was cool so we were unable to swim or suntan. All the chairs were saved by 0700 in the solarium, we managed to get one on 1 day. Embarkation and disembarkation were very smooth. The frequent travelers on Royal Caribbean were all happy as they got free drinks every evening. Read Less

This was the cruise of a lifetime, from Brisbane to Barcelona....stops were awesome...crew were fantastic, friendly and always there to help.....food was awesome(except for poached eggs that were floating in too much vinegar, so tasted awful, & toast was like concrete).... As usual the pool junkies hogged the chairs, so trying to find a chair just for an hour was impossible, even to watch the movies they screened on the outdoor screen.....would have been better to have more movies indoors or direct to room....shops sold the same junk as other cruise lines, must be bought in bulk.....the ship was a grand old lady, showing a little age in some places, but she is off to a complete revamp with a new company....I hope I get to sail on her again oneday....prefer this size ship to the new super huge things coming out now....felt more like a large family as you kept seeing the same faces.....staff knew you.....didi my booking through cruise1st, no problems. This cruise for my wife and I was part of a package allowing 2n hotel stays at start and end of cruise in Singapore and Dubai. RCCL operate both Celebrity cruises and Royal Carribean thus it was an opportunity to compare the 2 cruise lines. We have cruised with Celebrity several times and have really enjoyed our experience. and our hope was to have a similar experience this cruise. Unfortunately the standards of R.C. fall very far below those of Celebrity. Bad start to cruise my case not delivered to stateroom. After 6hours I went in search of it & found it held back because it had a bottle of liquor in it. They would not release case until bottle had been "confiscated". Their words not mine. I don't disagree with their rules but I am disappointed that no attempt to inform me why my case was not being delivered. Sea pass card issued without the included drinks package. This I was told was because I did not have a drinks package. Fortunately I had the confirmation e-mail on my Ipad to prove I had one and they finally agreed. Whilst I was arguing my case 2 other passengers appeared complaining that their sea pass card showed no drinks package. Quality & range of food very disappointing. Not bad but certainly way below the standard of Celebrity. The Windjammer buffet at both breakfast and lunch was boringly limited and the hot food was often cold. The Romeo & Juliet main dng rm varied from excellent to really unacceptable, particularly in portion size. Presentation and taste was generally good. Getting a 2nd drink in the dng rm was very difficult. Definitely got the impression they were rationing the wine so you bought a bottle. On not a single occasion on this 10n cruise did a drinks waiter ask if I would like another glass of wine. Hotel staff were reasonably friendly and competent but they just seemed to be shorthanded. There was a total lack of information about ports of call. Most cruise lines give talks in the theatre to provide useful information on venues being visited. R.C. -- absolutely nothing. Not even a printed sheet. You have option to buy their excursion or take pot luck. There are several other things I could criticise but it would just be a continuing theme. If you are thinking about a cruise with Royal Caribbean think again. Consider Celebrity if you want to cruise RCCL or consider another cruise line. Why the standards within the 2 cruise lines are so different I do not know. Particularly as there was no great disparity in cost between what I paid on this cruise and what I would have paid on Celebrity. Read Less

We needed 10 nights to make Diamond status with C&A - so this 11 night cruise from Brisbane to Singapore was perfect. Having been on the Allure OTS (12 nights -which we loved) and the Ovation OTS recently (15 nights - which we didn't really enjoy) it was wonderful to be back on a smaller ship again. Being her last cruise out of Australia, the ship and the staff excelled themselves, making it one of the best cruises we have undertaken. The food was fantastic and there were many extra dining opportunities offered at random - including culinary tours on a daily basis. We met new friends and our only issue (and it was minor) was the Pianist in the Schooner Bar had the volume up too loud, which drove people away as they were tired of yelling at each other. Entertainment was good - some better than others, which you find on any cruise Read Less

The ship is tired and the staff seemed to lack the enthusiasm that we are used to. The Windjammer restaraunt staff did not keep up with the demand and restock low or empty food dishes. The bars also seems to be understaffed with the resulting slow service. I've never been on a cruise where the main evening entertainment was a film in the theatre. And one that had been shown previously during the cruise during the daytime at that. The entertainment was generally poor and on the overnight stops I felt it was geared to giving the crew time off to go and have fun. The age old issue of dress code or lack of it was evident. People were allowed into the main dining room wearing shorts. Whether it's an Aussie thing to dress down I don't know, but Royal Caribbean need to either change their policy or enforce it. We had originally booked four back to back cruises from Brisbane to Barcelona, fortunately due to other reasons we can opted to cancel the last two. Read Less

I found the whole Cruise to be exceptional. I have sailed on 17 cruises including 5 with RCI. The only negative that l would have, is the lack of entertainment when leaving ports. When you have hundreds of people around the deck and pool area watching the ship sail out, it would have been nice to have a band ( like the Rhapsody that had a Jamacian band) that played every time you left port and every afternoon around the pool. I don't think that l have seen harder working staff anywhere. Great job to them all. Nothing was too much trouble. Room service for breakfast, which we had on 2 occasions was also spot on with the time. The Cruise Director ( Alex Schmidt) was exceptional at his job. The words "Ciao Ciao" will ring in our ears for a very long time...Great job Alex - you are to be commended. The rest of the entertainment staff being: James, Tori, J.J and the D.J Lucian- are also to be commended, Fabulous job guys. It was all of you that made our adventure so great. Cabin was very clean and tidy and the food was also great. I also commend the staff from the Cabin crew all the way up to the Captain, for making our holiday so memorable. I am now in the process of planning my next one. Thanks again RCI and cannot wait to sail with you again. Read Less

We wanted to be on Legend for its last cruise out of Brisbane and to visit Champagne Bay. Other ports had been visited on previous occasions. We had previously adored Rhapsody of the Seas and found Legend and its crew were to the same very high standard. Facilities were totally up to expectations as were the service, dining and entertainment. Three of us shared a cabin and it was comfortable (even the sofa bed), clean and functional. Although we were caught in a torrential downpour in Mare all ports met our expectations. Back on board the crew were helpful and understanding. Embarking and disembarking at Hamilton in Brisbane was smooth and simple - a credit to both ship and shore staff. Unfortunately we cannot repeat this trip as the ship has left Australia for good. Royal Caribbean should bring similar smaller ships to Brisbane in future so that we can repeat this experience. Read Less

This was our last opportunity to experience "Legend Of The Seas" before she was transferred over to The Thompson Group. My wife and I loved sailing on this vessel - three times last year alone - and needless to say we are sorry to see her go. Unfortunately she is the only ship in the RCI fleet that can get under the Gateway Bridge in our hometown of Brisbane, and we must now incur plane fares to Sydney to remain "Loyal To Royal". Hopefully it is not to long before a proposed terminal on the Bay side of the bridge is forthcoming, as Queensland has responded well to RCI's venture into our fair state and it has been a profitable exercise for the company. As the ship is not going to be with us for much longer there is not much point in extolling her virtues, of which there are many. Instead I will mention the wonderful crew which have come to know over the last year or so, many of whom remembered us from previous cruises. Not only our cabin steward Lucky who did a great job, but all of the stewards that we met as we walked through the ship who greeted us with a smile and a " Good Morning, have a nice day" or a similar greeting, which always sounded genuine; and busy though they always are they usually found time to have a few words with you. The service and attention we received from the staff in the Guest Services area was beyond our expectations, nothing was too much trouble for them even though at times they were absolutely snowed under. Special mention must go to Ilya Zhang who was just brilliant, a shining star. Our wait staff in the Romeo & Juliet Dining room were thoroughly professional in performing their duties, our thanks in particular to Expedito Cubar and Atish Poorhun, a young man who has a big future in the industry in my opinion. These people, and the rest of the bar staff, entertainers, Cruise Director, activities manager, Chefs cooks and bottle washers etc etc are the main reason we keep coming back to this cruise line and are "LOYAL TO ROYAL." Boarded this cruise with no hassles, we checked in just after 10.50 am and were sitting down to lunch in the Windjammer by 11.30 am. The food in the windjammer buffet was very good and had a great selection to choose from, this continued throughout the cruise for breakfast and lunch, though some of the food was not hot it was still in between warm to hot and very tasty. We enjoyed dinner just the once for the buffet and enjoyed the meal we had. Our dinner dining was done in the main dining room where the service and the waiters on our table were exceptional and very professional, thank you Arnold and Monica. Our cabin 8572 was very nice, we were lucky enough to be given an upgrade from a balcony cabin to a junior suite and were given all the trimming that came with it, the only drawback was, we where directly under the gym and at six every morning it sounded like we had a herd of elephants dancing on the ceiling, this really was a problem after the second night as we had to put the clock forward one hour, as my wife and I are normally early rises we did not complain. All the junior suits are on deck 8 and I am glad I didn't have to pay for mine as deck nine is very noisy with chairs getting dragged around and trolleys rumbling across the deck, if I had paid what others had for these cabins I would most definitely complained. Our cabin steward Ida was exceptional and he could not do enough for us, if we asked for something within 5 minutes it was there, thanks Ida. The entertainment was very good and the staff was so good, even joining in with the passengers to sing and dance with the band. The shows in the theater put on by the Royal Caribbean dancers and singers were excellent and the guest acts also a joy. Overall we enjoyed a very good cruise and cannot thank the whole staff enough for their friendliness and service with a smile. Read Less

Legend of the Seas Review. In this review I’ll focus on the ship facilities and service. I also didn’t use the pool, spas, gym or set foot in the Day Spa. Not my scene (others can comment). By way of background, this is my 9th cruise and 4th with RCI. I’ve previously cruised from Australia on Voyager and Explorer of the Seas (both sister ships) and Rhapsody of the Seas. Although Legend is a Vision Class Ship (same as Rhapsody) she was the first of the class and her design is a little different to Rhapsody (for example, Windjammer is at the front of Legend whereas it is at the rear on Rhapsody; the MDR on Legend has huge panoramic windows that let in a lot of natural light; and the smokestack and Viking Crown Lounge on Legend is positioned more amidships, which reduces the pool area but does leave room for a 9 hole putt putt golf course at the stern). Like for like I preferred the layout on Legend compared to Rhapsody. Knowing that Legend has been sold to Thompson/TUI (and they make no secret of this) and that this was the second last of her South Pacific cruises I set my expectations low, expecting service levels and maintenance to be slipping. I was totally wrong. The service on board was fantastic, and being a smaller ship, staff do recognise and acknowledge you (hence I was “Mister David” to the bartenders in the Schooner Bar and the Viking Crown Lounge). Sometimes the service at the Pool Bar was a little slow (not their fault; I suspect a lot of people who use this bar are on a drinks package as the bar staff seem to be very busy making non-stop cocktails). Hint, if service is slow at the Pool Bar, go to the bar in the Solarium (same level) which is often quicker. The foredeck plan on the Vision Class ships is open, so you get to see the staff working hard on port days anchoring or mooring. I was there a few times and they constantly play “It’s the Final Countdown…” to the crew decks and are always urging the staff to keeping serving “the Royal Way”. RCI is certainly doing its best to keep staff morale at the highest level, and this reflects well. That said, there are a few indicators that the ship is on its way out. The mechanism for the aerial shows in the Centrum seems out of service and we never had any of the aerial shows on this cruise. I assume that’s it, which is a pity. A few of the deck chairs look a bit worse for wear, and many of the clocks on board have either stopped working or are set on the wrong time (the clock in the Schooner Bar is locked on to 5pm, which could be a good thing). However the crew were constantly working on maintenance (rust repair, pressure cleaning etc). The MDR is great. Try and get there for breakfast as you will get table service and get to meet new fellow cruisers. The same for lunch (except on port days when your only lunch options are the Windjammer Café or the Park Café). Windjammer is Windjammer. You either like it or put up with it. Buffet service, and it can get very busy at peak times (breakfast and lunch), however good if you have young children to feed or you are pushed for time. I tried the two speciality restaurants (Chops and Izumi). I love Japanese food so I went four times to Izumi (they offered me a 20% discount on port days). I tried Chops once and the food is high quality (although I struggled to get through all the courses). You pay extra for Chops ($35 USD per person) and a small cover charge and a la carte pricing for Izumi. My favourite place on all the RCI ships is the Viking Crown Lounge (deck 11 on Legend). It’s a great spot to escape the busy public areas on the ship for some quiet time (reading or playing games). You get a great view of the pool deck from up there and you are in air conditioning. And as a bonus you can indulge in a drink when the bar is open. However, on Legend the Viking Crown Lounge was my (personal) biggest disappointment. During the 2013 refurb they added Izumi and Chops to the area normally allocated to the Viking Crown Lounge, reducing it to around one third of its former size, and with views on the starboard side only (Izumi has the pick of the forward views). To add further to my woes, the best part of the Viking Crown Lounge was closed off each evening on my cruise from 5pm to 8.30pm for the overflow from the Diamond, Diamond Plus and Pinnacle Lounge. There seemed to be a disproportionate number of Diamond and higher cruisers on this cruise, and I assume this trend will continue until she is transferred to Thompson/TUI (quite a few on board are continuing through to Barcelona). I like the Schooner Bar on Legend. It seems larger and better laid out than on the past three RCI ships I’ve been on, however it does get used a lot for Trivia Comps, Scrapbooking seminars etc. The R Bar can also get very busy when there are performances on in the Centrum. I did notice an increasing trend by RCI to “sell stuff” on board. In this cruise, they introduced an Art Auction program. Now I don’t mind the RCI selling culture. I understand that if they can supplement revenue by selling value add on board, then that can help contain fare rises and make the base cruise affordable to more, but the problem with the Art Auction is that it takes up valuable real estate on a small ship. During the day an area within the Centrum (which is already crowded) is taken up by art displays, and when the regular auctions are on, the Anchors Aweigh Lounge, which would be ideal for the trivia comps and others that clog up the Schooner Bar, is taken over by art works. All in all I enjoyed myself. This review probably isn’t going to help many as I believe all the remaining cruises are (or are close to be) sold out. At the Senior Officers briefing on the second last day a few questions were asked about the ship’s transition to Thompson/TUI. It seems that it will be configured for the UK market, and the casino will be gutted and replaced by enhanced public areas. I’d love to go back and experience her as Discovery 2 to see the changes. We chose to do this cruise as it was for New Year and departure port was Brisbane. We also knew before we travelled that the ship had been sold, which made us think some things would be neglected. The ship appeared to be clean and tidy at all times. Being a New Year cruise there were a lot of kids on board especially around our cabin!! We knew there would be a lot of kids being this time of the year, so we chose to spend our days around the pool in the solarium, which was kid free and for the most the security kept them out. We where travelling as a group of 8 (4 couples) although we started with late sitting for dinner, one couples had not organised to be at our table, so to have a table of 8 we had to go to any time dining. We where able to get the same table each night with two wonderful wait staff (Stanley and Ash - table 6). They could not do enough for us each night at dinner and their service was great. Also have to say the food in the MDR each night was very good, probably the best we have had on any ship (this was our 16th cruise). Even Windjammer buffet was pretty good. We did Chops Grille and this was excellent. All in our group had the premium drinks package, which was great you could pretty much ask for any drink/cocktail and they would be covered under the package. Only downfall to this is everyone on board appeared to have the package, which meant people who usually just had beer or wine would have cocktails, which meant a very long line up at the bar. The bar staff did a great job, but where very understaffed we also noticed not a lot of wait staff wandering around to take drink orders, but as the cruise went on we just got use to the wait. We only had two ports which were Lifou and Noumea, been there many times before, so we didn't chose cruise for ports but more for the holiday. Our cabin was always clean and tidy with fresh towels, great cabin steward in Lu he was like the invisible man, we didn't see much of him but the cabin always cleaned. As for cabin 8521 (we picked the cabin, so only have ourselves to blame) but it was very noisy with the pool deck above and lots of kids running around, so would not recommend the cabin to anyone. Plus we had lots of children staying in cabins around us, who felt that they could just go around knocking on all the cabin doors. The ship overall was very good and really liked that it was a smaller ship. This was our first cruise with RCI and if they based another ship out of Brisbane I am sure we would do more cruises with them. We thought the entertainment was pretty good, although there didn't seem a lot of activities during the day but we were ok with that as we did just want to relax. Overall a great cruise. Read Less

Just back from an eight day cruise to the South Pacific. What a wonderful time we had. Couldn't ask for anything more from the crew and the facilities on board. My only negatives and perhaps I am being harsh was the day stopover in Lito, still wondering why we stopped there. Mystery Islanf was beautiful, sparkling clean water. Not sure about Port Vila, cheap duty free. Drinks aboard are reasonably priced, stubble of fourex gold was $6.50 US. We had contemplated buying the drinks package, $66 AUS before we left, $79 US once on board, a bit steep. You would to drink an awful lot to be in front. Food was good, went o Romeo and Juliet formal dining for first couple of nights, ended up eating dinner at Windjammer which was great and less formal, heaps of food and good quality. The staff both in housekeeping and bars were very helpful and would rate them very high. The only downside, is that the Legend will soon leave Australian waters for good, I hope a Royal Caribbean have a replacement ship in mind for Brisbane, not keen on travelling to Sydney for catch a cruise. My wife and I just got off an 8 nighter on Legend, this was last minute decision as a very good rate became available. We had previously sailed on her in 2013 from Singapore to Dubai and had enjoyed the cruise. We had opted for a balcony guarantee and got a superior balcony on deck 7. Everything in the cabin was fine and in good working order. The cabin had a 3 seater couch and a small refrigerator which kept things cool but not cold Staff throughout the ship gave us excellent service and were quick to remember our names. Food in both the restaurant and the buffet was good. Entertainment was fair. Check in went without any hitches ... thank you to the staff at the Port... There was a mix up with our dining time despite everything our helpful travel agent did to arrange for 8 of us to do the 6.00pm dining months ahead. We were notified 2 days before our cruise that this had been changed to 8.30pm dining. Again our travel agent organised for us to go back to the 6.00pm dining which was confirmed. On embarking ... yes you guessed it we were on 8.30pm dining again. NOT HAPPY ... Eventually on night 3 or was it 4 ?? we were all able to be seated at 6.00pm dining ... YEAH !!! Having said that, the dining staff were excellent ... they had arranged for canapes and special 'treats' to be delivered to our cabin each day ... even a lunch at Chops Grille was provided ... the staff could not have been more apologetic or obliging ... thank you dining room staff .. Great great great entertainment ... we were very fortunate to have The Queen Experience perform while on board ... what a great night ... the rest of the entertainment was so so ... nothing to rave about ... Activities were fun and a lot of laughs ... although there were quite a few long breaks in between some .. Cabin was fine ... needed a good vacuum in the corners though ... By Far my most enjoyable family cruise. Our room attendant was fantastic, the food attendants in the Windjammer were on top of the food, cleanliness and drink service. The variety of foods to choose from was very good. I think the only complaint I heard from my group was BBQ was not always available, and a bit of dryer chicken here and there. Several nights there were extra servings of Soups & deserts like the warm chocolate and banana strudell MMMM MMM. Lots of variety of activities available and something for all ages. I thoroughly enjoyed the mini-golf together with my daughter and as it is available 24 hours, we could putt through at out own pace without holding anybody up, which is great as I am usually on O2, so I slipped it off to be a bit more free (but slower) to play. Embarkation was quick and easy as I am priority assisted and disembarkation was an absolute breeze! The quickest EVER to pick up our bags on Tuesday and go through customs etc. we were off the ship and in our car by 9am! :) I was lucky enough to celebrate my birthday on board and my husband found it very easy to organise a special touch to celebrate it at dinner. The chocolate cake was moist enough to me to be a mud cake with like a layer of gnache of some sort chilled in a layer in it. The entertainment at night was varied and as I had seen a few shows opted to try for a few different things like the quizz's, watching karioke and the casino. The Magician Comedien Nick Nikolas was awesome and performed on 2 nights. Read Less

We went on this ship in January 2016 and decided to give it one last go - and just like the first ship was not disappointed. To those people that want to complain about the small stuff the entertainment in the centrum was sensational - the dinner in the main Restaurant was very good - DO NOT COMPARE THIS SHIP TO PRINCESS ETC AS IT IS UNIQUE WITHIN ITSELF - IT IS ONLY 31/2 TO 4 STARS SO LIVE WITH IT - The crew were super friendly from our cabin steward to the waiters to the bar staff Speaking of bar staff they were fantastic all round and yes sometimes we had to wait 2 minutes or so but where else were we going - to those complaining take a chill pill Of ALL the cruise ships we have been on from p&o to Princess to RC to HA this is by far our favorite ship - to me 5 stars all round Read Less

I was so looking forward to finally cruising with Royal Caribbean, I had been wanting to go for so long and was really looking forward to it, so when we saw a 3 night weekend cruise we jumped at the chance. I travelled with my mother (her first cruise), sister and a group of friends and their mothers. I'll start with the positives....embarkation in Brisbane was seamless and we were enjoying lunch in the Windjammer by midday. Staff in both the Windjammer and the Romeo & Juliet Dining room were very friendly and helpful, service was what I'd expect based on other cruises I've done with P&O. The food in the Windjammer was mostly good, I am not a huge fan of buffets usually but we found this the easiest option for such a short cruise. The food in the dining room was also quite good, although I'd have to say some dishes were slightly below par compared to meals I've had on P&O. We dined in Chops Grille one night which was excellent (but of course you pay extra for that so it would want to be). Our cabin was always very clean and so were public areas, toilets etc. Housekeeping staff work very hard on these cruises and deserve their tips. The Ab-Fab show was fairly good and we all enjoyed that. Unfortunately though the negatives outweigh the positives. Our biggest disappointment of all was the Ultimate Drinks package we purchased prior to the cruise. We paid $67USD per day for unlimited beer, wine, spirits, cocktails under $12, soft drinks, juices, tea, coffee etc. My friends and I enjoy a cocktail or two and figured this would probably be the way to go. Not only was the variety & quality of cocktails disappointing, the service in ALL bars was simply appalling. Incredibly slow and took forever to get served! Waiters would slowly wipe down tables and bench tops before casually serving the next passenger, it was so obvious this was deliberate. There was no sense of urgency or rushing whatsoever, even when the bar was crowded. They simply did not seem to care and we all felt this was a blatant attempt by RC to limit the value passengers received out of purchasing these packages. It was disgusting really and false advertising at its worst. I have been on 2 other cruises with P&O and the bar service on both was simply outstanding. This was a joke, and so many people we spoke to were complaining about it. Furthermore, we had pre-paid our gratuities and felt this was a huge mistake but there was nothing we could do about it. Someone onboard told us Australians have a reputation for refusing to tip (which definitely seems to be the case), so I understand why they offer this service and they also automatically add it to everyones sea pass who hasn't prepaid them, but I feel this policy has contributed to a huge drop in quality of service onboard. We really didn't partake in a lot of the entertainment options as this was just a weekend cruise and our plan was to sit poolside with a book and a cocktail (thankfully we were blessed with perfect weather to be able to do this). A couple of us went to bingo but even that was disappointing - bingo cards were incredibly expensive, and the young girl who called the numbers was SO SLOW and dragged the whole process out unnecessarily. Its like the Americans have to dramatise and draw everything out - we were so frustrated after the first game and so many were telling her to just get on with it!! We all had early dinner reservations and were worried we'd have to leave before all the cards were finished. My husband and I are booked on a weekend cruise on the Ovation of the Seas next year, however I am seriously considering cancelling because of the disappointing service we received on Legend of the Seas. Some staff we encountered were very friendly and efficient, but a lot just didn't impress. Perhaps we have been spoiled on previous cruises, but all in all I felt this wasn't great value at all. Although we had a wonderful weekend away with family and friends and it really was the company of good people that made it such a memorable getaway, there were definitely some big niggles that although I don't want to focus on and draw a negative aspect to our trip, I feel are worth mentioning to fellow cruisers.
