Highly rated and many other satisfied customers. Found it all to be true. Ship was amazing, everything was thought out and crew was always attentive and prepared. Staterooms were clean, well appointed and plenty of room. Food on the ship was excellent - plenty of selection and variety, regional dishes served, service was outstanding. Manfredi's (Italian restaurant on ship) was our favorite place to dine, excellent food, service, selection. Tours (with one exception) were well planned, educational with well informed guides, always some free time after the tours to explore, eat or relax. Evening entertainment on ship was outstanding, young performers that I would not be surprised to see on Broadway one day. There were also good lectures and discussions about the ports of call and related subjects. Without exception, all the staff working on the ship were friendly, courteous, attentive and efficient. Met a lot of enjoyable passengers as well, enjoyed meals together. The extension trip was wonderful, the best part being the Viking appointed hostess. She was well above all our expectations! Scenery, tours, restaurants and hotels were most enjoyable. Will definitely be taking another Viking cruise in the future. Read Less

I wasnt quite sure what to expect for our Viking Star Ocean voyage after six previous Viking river cruises. Needless to say I was extremely pleased. Everything about the ship from our 3rd deck veranda stateroom to the excellent service and friendly crew was great. You would never know that the ship had over 600 passengers aboard as there was plenty of space to relax and enjoy being not on a crowded larger cruise ship. Our shore excursions more often than not had superb guides, we chose to take several extra charge trips and are glad we did. The weather, except for the very first day, was spectacular. Unfortunately, the winds off of Santorini were too high to allow tenders to be used so we missed that trip. Food aboard the Viking Star was always good, ranging from excellent (Mamsens and Manfredi) to very good choices at the breakfast and lunch buffets. The main dining room was also usually good, but got extremely noisy after 730 pm. I used the very large fitness center a couple of times and we certainly were surprised by the free laundry room and 24 hour room service. Read Less

Having loved our Viking River Cruise in 2017, we decided to try the Viking Ocean Cruise. So glad we did. Everything about the ship and the crew was exceptional. The atmosphere, the food, wine, shore excursions, on board activities, it was all marvelous. With only 930 passengers, one never felt crowded and we never had to wait for a table or any type of service. The crew was super professional, courteous and friendly. They helped to create an atmosphere wherein it was easy to make friends with fellow passengers. The cabin design was streamlined and gave a sense of space. Having all cabins with balconies is a huge bonus. Having room service breakfast on our balcony a couple of time was a lovely luxury. The staff in all the restaurants, bars and spa were fabulous. We attended several shows, all of which were fun and entertaining. We have already booked our next Viking Ocean cruise and can't wait for it. Thank you Viking! Read Less

This was luxury. The ports were all delightful to visit. Excellent guides in every port who knew all about the places we were in. Ship lectures were very good, again the speakers were extremely knowledgeable. All the staff seemed genuinely happy and ready to please. Nothing was too much trouble. Drinks included with meals were plentiful and good quality wines. Restaurant food was first class.. Melt in the mouth steaks, lobster, oysters. Eggs so fresh. We were disappointed that they did not make a fuss of sail away but the captain was good. Shipped left port without us feeling a thing. Entertainment good. Young group were professional. Cruise director had a great voice. Ship ba d good too. Leaving the ship went smoothly although we were very early at the airport. Flight delayed and then the airline lost our baggage but we got it delivered to home three days later. Read Less

We wanted to visit this part of the world and this itinerary gave us the perfect opportunity to see several places in one holiday. We enjoyed all the stops, and loved everything about the onboard experience. The ship design, decor and upkeep are excellent. Food and drink are fabulous. We especially loved Manfredis restaurant, but we enjoyed the Chefs Table too although we selected our menu carefully because not all of them appealed to us. The Restaurant was consistently high standard, Mamsens deli has a limited selection but us great for a simple breakfast or lunch. There are bars everywhere so you don’t have to go far for a drink. The Explorers Lounge bar was our favourite spot because of the stunning views. There is a main pool with covered and uncovered loungers and sofa style seating, and and aft infinity pool with loungers that shares space with the Aquavit terrace. We hung out at the aft pool. There is a sun deck too. Absolutely no problem finding somewhere to chill out. Every staff member was great to interact with. Read Less

Recommendation from friends. The ship was clean and efficient. The staff were truly great - responsive and polite. The food was excellent at Manfreds but could only get a reservation one night - very disappointing. Some meals at The Restaurant were good and others not so - for example, Sword Fish over cooked. The public places on board were very comfortable. The optional excursions were great. The optional Silver Beverage Package was well worth it. The cabin Stewart, Josephine, was so good. So was Jean Paul at The Restaurant. We used the Explorers’ Lounge a lot and found it so comfortable and the service excellent. We particularly enjoyed the guitarist. When we book another cruise we will use Viking again - smaller ship, no children, no casino, etc. we are considering a river cruise, particularly the Danube. Thanks to the crew of the Viking Star for such a pleasant experience. Read Less

We had previously used Viking for China and had THE most amazing and wonderful experience so we naturally looked at Viking for the Mediterranean. The ship, Viking Star was immaculate at all times, the staff friendly and helpful, cabin clean and spacious and the communal areas well maintained. The buffet food was incredible and the special seafood night at poolside was a foodies delight. We did all the included excursions and bought 3 additional trips. Venice Opera, was expensive and didn't live up to the brochure explanation...warm wine and no snacks! However, the balance of the trips where good but very busy in Athens as there where several other cruise ships and it was a bit of a bun fight at times, that aside we enjoyed them. Several of the guides where exceptional, a few good and one mmmmmm just ok...but it didn't spoil our overall experience. If we did Viking again we would look again at the additional trips that say 'with wine and snacks' a little more carefully ! Read Less

We have received brochures from Viking for many years, for river cruises, most of which went to places we had already visited by land. When this cruise down the Adriatic came through, we chose it to celebrate our Golden Wedding, as a special treat. It could not have been more wonderful. The whole ship was beautifully laid out, with attractive, subtle decoration (not all gold and glitz), it was extremely efficiently run with every procedure going smoothly, and the staff were all fantastic - friendly, helpful and cheerful, even when they had been working all day, and some during the night too while we sailed. All the visits in port were beautifully organised and the guides were good. The crowds in some towns were unfortunate but on board, we did not feel at all crowded, despite there being 1400 people on board. This holiday was way beyond our expectations and we are recommending Viking to all our friends. Another trip may well be in the diary at some stage. Read Less

We chose Viking Ocean Cruise because we have taken 2 river cruises and we were extremely impressed with the staff, the ship and the excursions so we decided to go with Viking Ocean. The ship had so much to offer. We loved having the infinity pool to hang out at after an excursion. It was so relaxing and a great place to meet other people. The suites are fabulous, plenty of room to relax and enjoy. The housekeeping staff and other staff are very friendly and always trying to please. We felt the dining was a bit off for breakfast and lunch. We would sit at a table and there would not be a salt and pepper shaker on the table and it would take awhile before someone would come over to help us. The restaurants on the ship were excellent. The only disappointment was that the food did not match the ports that we visited. We felt the food on the river cruise was much better and the variety of food was excellent on the river cruise. We would take another ocean cruise with viking but we prefer the river cruises with less people on the ship. Read Less

The Viking Star and crew did not disappoint. It is often said you get what you pay for and Viking stood tall. The crew hospitality was heart warming to say the least, always personalized and always delivered in a jubilant way that is refreshingly uplifting to the spirt after a long day ashore or leaving your cabin for an anticipated dinner experience. The physical appearance of The Star is impressive in it’s absolutely clean environment throughout the ship. This was our second Viking Cruise on The Star, the last being 15 nights out of Barcelona to Bergen in 2018. It was uplifting to see again so many crew members who’s interactions with each other, regardless of status, continue to be seamlessly positive. Five stars to the entertainment on-board. It would be unjust to single anyone out, least I forget to mention someone, from singers to band members all were exceptionally talented. My only (false) negative is that my failure at self discipline led to a few pounds joining us is a testament to the exceptional variety and quality of food and beverage. We look forward to next summer where a Viking River Cruise awaits our discovery and new adventures. Tom & Regina Read Less

We like smaller ships rather than the huge ocean liners., which is why we picked Viking. The Viking Star is very elegant and first class in every way and has a personal feel because of the smaller size. The food at all the restaurants was very high quality. We were impressed with all the healthy choices and the variety of great food. The service on the ship was extremely attentive. The cabin was very spacious. The one thing I would criticize would be the lack of drawers for clothing. I think more drawers would make the room perfect. I requested more hangers, which definitely helped. The bathroom had a good amount of storage space and the shower was a very comfortable size. Embarkation and disembarkation went very smoothly. The selection of shore excursions was very good and we enjoyed our tours. The entertainment was fun and well done. We traveled with 3 other couples and we all enjoyed having meals together in the beautiful dining rooms. The Restaurant was a particular favorite. We loved World Cafe for breakfast. We also enjoyed hanging out at the infinity pool during our free time and going into the hot tub., We would definitely do another cruise with Viking. Read Less

We had been anxious to visit the Balkan countries along the Adriatic, and felt that the cruise itinerary offered on the Viking Star would be the best way to do this. Having traveled on other ocean cruise lines, we were pleasantly surprised at how much of a "step up" our experience on Viking was. Lots of space, pleasant environs, excellent dining and top of the line shore excursions. The staff were definitely there to serve. Guest Services did an outstanding job when we had any questions or concerns. The ports of call were excellent, however, we were a little disappointed in how crowded several of the ports were (Dubrovnik and Santorini). The main Restaurant offered an excellent menu, with "local" offerings associated with the current port of call. The wine selection was good. The Explorers Lounge was a pleasant place for a pre-dinner cocktail, especially when sailing away from port. We definitely would sail with Viking again. Read Less

The 12 night Viking Mediterranean odyssey cruise was our 1st trip to Europe in celebration of our retirements this year. Viking was by far superior to the other 3 cruise lines we’ve previously traveled with. The ship and food were high quality and absolutely amazing. All the complimentary amenities- free excursion in each port, high tea, speciality dining and free wine and beer with meals, free laundry along with no sales pressure anywhere - spa, dining etc - and Viking staff anticipating and responding to our every need and desire - made this a true luxury experience. We would have appreciated the port talks occurring prior to the cut off times to book or change excursions. We’d also have enjoyed more guided tour time and less free time - which seemed to be primarily shopping time. Overall we loved the cruise - and made an onboard deposit for a Viking cruise in the future. Read Less

My sister had never been outside the US and when I went to Barcelona 2 years ago she said to take lots of pictures because that would be the closest she’d ever get to Europe. I said “WHY?!?” She said her husband hates traveling. I said, “You don’t need him to go, I’ll go with you!” And the adventure was on! For 13 glorious days we explored a total of 8 countries and fell in love with every one of them! The Viking Star is luxurious elegance, from the deluxe veranda where I sipped hot tea in the mornings while watching the sun rise, to the multiple dining venues, the Explorer’s Lounge to the infinity pool, and the Spa... Let me just say that Nordic Bathing is my new indulgence! Those Vikings really knew how to pamper themselves! The ports on the Mediterranean Odyssey cruise were amazing, each one so unique that every morning was like Christmas, with a delightful new gift to unwrap and explore each day. Without a doubt, though, the best surprise for me was the staff. From Tejo, who greeted us with a smile every time we entered or left our cabin, and kept it sparkling clean and well stocked with whatever we wanted, to the maitre’d of the Restaurant, who greeted us by name and sat us at a shared table with 6 other delightful voyagers the first night. We all became fast friends and spent most of the rest of the evenings of the cruise laughing and sharing our days’ adventures with each other over delicious meals representing whatever country we had just visited. From start to finish, this was the adventure of a lifetime, shared with my best and oldest friend, my sister.5061 Read Less

We also liked that there were no passengers under the age of 18. We were expecting a great cruise and it far exceeded our expectations. The food crew, excursions were all wonderful. Our cabin was large and very comfortable. We spent time on the deck eating, reading and taking pictures! The crew were always helpful and respectful. The entertainment was very enjoyable. Especially enjoyed the Explorers Lounge on the day we spent at sea.We loved that we didn't have a specific time for all our meals and could spend extra time in the ports if we wanted. We loved our two Viking river cruises and had never been on an ocean cruise, so, of course, we chose Viking for our first ocean experience! It was even better than we had hoped it would be! The Star was beautifully decorated and gave us a feeling of peaceful elegance! Our room was so comfortable and the shower was amazing! I didn’t even miss my Sleep Number bed or my tub for bubble baths! The dining options allowed us to dress up for a sit down dinner or be casual after being ashore all day. We really loved the variety provided by the buffet style in the World Cafe! Our room was maintained by friendly, courteous staff who came in numerous times when we were out to straighten up and leave us goodies, as well as the Viking Daily. I saved all of my Viking Dailies for souvenirs because they were so informative and helped us stay organized each day! We learned so much from our guides about each of our onshore excursions. The Quiet Vox is a great way to hear every word so we didn’t miss a thing! The Star was such a smooth way to travel that we couldn’t believe we were moving through the water until we went out on the deck! We are so in love with Viking that we booked another ocean voyage before we even left the Star! Viking is the best! Read Less

We chose the Mediterranean Odyssey as a mode of travel in order to enjoy sights centered near the ports of call on this particular itinerary. We also selected the Viking cruise line for its reputation of quality as well as the smaller number of passengers on this particular voyage. The timing of the cruise was also meaningful to us as it was in celebration of our 40th wedding anniversary as well as the time of the year weather wise. The entertainment turned out to be a complete surprise as we did not choose Viking with the expectation of being presented with famous singers, comedians, etc. The cruise director and vocalists were superb and the band musicians were outstanding. It was just enough variety after full days of sightseeing. The cruise had a very low key relaxed ambiance. The fact that it was a non smoking ship, no casino with smokers to navigate through was a most welcome pleasure. Viking also engaged excellent local tour guides which added greatly to the enjoyment of the land excursions. Read Less

That added so much to our understanding of what we were seeing. we loved every one of our tour guides since they made the cities come alive with details of history. I can not say enough wonderful things about this trip!! Our beds were comfortable, the bathrooms were pretty and very functional and we loved every meal we ate on that ship. The adage, you get what you pay for, certainly applies. A wonderful trip visiting a city of Europe almost every day. While it was difficult (though with some outside excursions) to see a city in one day, you get a feel for it and can return if you are so inclined. We were busy almost every single moment. The walking/bus tours were pretty nice especially because of the added devices that let you hear the leaders story, comments, and descriptions of the city. I learned a lot and saw the most famous of the iconic landmarks . Food was wonderful with a themed food every day corresponding with the city visiting. If you wanted a steak, just ask for it. Tasty and so much better than the usual cruise food. Entertainment was a bit of a let down. The same people did different genre of songs each evening, but we were so tired out that it was just fine. The best feature was the wonderful support staff. You developed a rapport with those you see each day and while they may be friendly just to get your tip, I don't think so. They genuinely seemed to care for your welfare. You treated them right, they returned it - double! Loved our Viking trip and truth be told, won't be going on any other ever again!!!! GREAT JOB! We enjoyed lectures available on board, and also the evening entertainment in the Star Lounge. An unexpected acknowledgment and recognition of the Viking staff on our last night onboard by the cruise director was a very poignant moment. (Good job!)
