Wonderful Viking river cruise along the Seine River in Western France. Peaceful and relaxing countryside cruising to the historical and emotional WWII beaches and U.S. Cemetery at Normandy. Viking does it right. Well planned excursions; free time; excellent food and exceptionally clean ship. Ships staff were excellent and very accommodating. River cruising brings with it a smaller number of guests (approximately ~ 140). This makes it a more relaxed, intimate and social holiday experience. My wife and I love kids, but sometime we feel that it is good to vacation in a "child free" environment and river cruising gives you this. It is what it is...an adult river cruising experience. The other upside that made this a relaxed experienced was that the Viking travel group planned all of our flights at a very affordable price. If you extend your vacation over and above the Viking river cruise, for a minimal deviation fee, they will also plan your flights accordingly. This was just an overall Outstanding experience. Viking commercials on Alabama Public Television were very attractive and I have heard great things about Viking. Visiting Normandy and seeing the invasion beaches has long been on my bucket list. I can't find enough words to say how much we enjoyed the trip. The longship was immaculate and very comfortable. The food was to die for. The crew knocked themselves to take care of us from the time they picked us up at CDG airport until they saw us off. The only thing I could find to complain about was the buses used for the shore side trips. The seats were too close together in some of the buses and the windows were dirty and too small for sightseeing. I am definitely recommend Viking cruises to my friends and we enjoyed it so much we have signed up for the Rhine Gateway next April. Read Less

We chose the Normandy cruise because it was a place we had wanted to visit. Several couples from our development had been on this Viking cruise. Also our travel agent recommended Viking cruises. From the beginning of the cruise to the end we were treated royally. Viking met us at the airport and took us to a Viking bus. When we ended our cruise the reverse was true. Viking has thought of everything that will make a cruise comfortable and luxurious. It was our 50th anniversary year, and we found a bottle of champagne and two glasses in our room in honor of the occasion. Our program director was outstanding. He was extremely helpful and gave excellent lectures. The food was delicious; service excellent. We even had various drinks handed to us when we returned to the boat after a tour-- sometimes water, sometimes wine. The crew always had smiles and we're always considerate and understanding. We did not attend any of the evening entertainment , but we heard from others that it was excellent. Our tour guides were outstanding. Each guide had a different style in terms of how he or she presented the information on each tour. Part of the Normandy tour is a special service at the site given by an employee at Normandy, and it was very moving. Our room was ample in space. There was plenty of storage for our luggage. The staff was courteous and refreshed our room several times during each day. The wifi was often sporatic but that was no fault of Viking. Wifi connection depended on where we were. We met so many nice people on the boat. It was nice to visit with different people throughout the week during meal times and also on the tours. And as time went on we began to gravitate toward several couples whose company we enjoyed. We had beautiful weather on our trip, and our trip was over too soon. I in particular loved being pampered. We hope to enjoy another tour in the future. Read Less

This was our second Viking cruise and we've already scheduled a third. As always we were met by a Viking representative to guide us to our motor coach. Paris no longer allows River Cruise boats to dock in the city so we had to travel to Le Pecq by motor coach to board, which was almost an hour away. However, Viking made sure that we spent plenty of time in Paris. Our favorite stops were Monet's Gardens, the American Cemetery at Normandy and of course Paris. You will also stop at other small French cities such as where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake and Richard the Lion Hearted's Castle. If you have any difficulty walking you may want to take a cane or walking stick as some of the streets are cobble stones or very uneven. The scenery is more sedate along the Seine River, mostly French homes currently occupied. The food was gourmet all the way and the service outstanding. At the end of the cruise Viking makes sure you get to the airport of time and problem free. There is a Viking rep waiting for your motor coach to arrive and guides you all the way. Read Less

He did not seem to care, taking turns as fast as he could. I hope you look into this driver before he kills someone! Crew was wonderful, accommodating, and gracious. They seemed to know what we wanted before we did. Cabin was always nice and clean. Bartender was terrific, and such a good memory. The excursions were so informative, getting us all in touch with history and the beautiful country of France. The guides spoke great English and were there to make sure we all had a good time. What a nice touch to be greeted with a warm terry towel when returning from an outing. We will definitely recommend Viking to friends and family, the service is unsurpassed! Read Less

This cruise was chosen for the itinerary. The Normandie landing beaches appealed to me, Monet appealed to my wife. We are experienced ocean cruisers but had never done a river cruise before. We enjoyed the experience immensely but found it quite different from an ocean cruise. The river cruise was more active with more tours, not as laid back as the ocean cruises. Also, not surprisingly, the ship, Viking Rinda, had fewer amenities but having completed the cruise, we understand why and, frankly, didn't miss them. The Rinda is a beautiful ship and it is beautifully maintained. The food and service were superb. A very special touch was being greeted by the ship's executive staff when returning from some of the tours. To approach the ship and see on the gangway the Captain, the First Officer, the Hotel Director, the Maitre'd, and the Executive Chef waiting to great you was, quite simply "wow." Our waiter, Ivan, was superior. The itinerary was fantastic and the tours were outstanding. The tour guides were superlative. For me, an extraordinary experience was in Vernon where during our tour an older woman leaned out her balcony and waved French, British, Canadian and USA flags. Our guide told us that she had lived there during the occupation and waved the flags whenever she heard an English tour in the square below her window. The Tour Director, Ken, was extraordinary and, it seemed, ubiquitous. In short, the Seine cruise to Normandie on the Viking Rinda was outstanding. We recommend it highly. Hard to imagine a better experience than what we had. As a result, we strongly recommend Viking River Cruises. Read Less

We heard from several friends that Viking cruises were excellent and we now agree. This was our first cruise and we look forward to more. Our only regret is we probably won't see the same crew next time as they were great. The cabin, the food and the ship in general were perfect for a relaxing vacation. The shore excursions were excellent and the option to stay on board or choose your own excursion was very useful. My wife is limited in her mobility and she was comfortable on board and on the excursions we took. The smaller number of passengers made it very easy to meet and socialize with many. We enjoyed meeting people from England, Texas and Hawaii as well as many other places. . The only black mark was due to Air France, our arrival and departure at DeGaulle was so inept and passenger unfriendly that cattle would have gone back to the barn rather than fly Air France. Our first time traveling with Viking on our first river cruise was awesome! Everything went smoothly. The Rinda is a beautiful ship. We truly enjoyed sitting on our balcony when we were in our cabin. The cabin was lovely. The staff and service was absolutely outstanding! Dining far far exceeded my expectations, as I am restricted to gluten free ... I was blissfully happy with the buttery flaky croissants I had each morning in addition to what I was able to order from the menu; and it just got better from there. That was such a huge and delightful relief for me The entertainment and activities were fun and light and enjoyable. Clearly, the staff enjoy working with each other. Our excursions were terrific and my husband and I reveled in all of them. A dream come true for me to visit the Eiffel, and shop in Paris. Learning so much history made me wish I had taken notes (for scrapbooking purposes later). Visiting Giverny and seeing the home and gardens of Claude Monet was wonderful. Visiting Normandy and stepping onto Omaha Beach, really there are no words to adequately describe the heroic sacrifices and what it felt like to be there. My husband and I cannot wait to choose another Viking River Cruise. We are even contemplating a Viking Ocean Cruise as well. Read Less

Viking was particularly thoughtful about Normandy and allowed us to participate in a small ceremony that made the experience even more meaningful! The crew seemed to anticipate our every need! We enjoyed the well prepared food. We also enjoyed that out trip was all inclusive. This is our eighth cruise and we usually end up with a big balance at the end, not with Viking! We have memories to last a lifetime and plan to go again soon. We met wonderful people and the mood on the boat was always upbeat. The stateroom was small, but well appointed. We added several days on in a Paris Hotel and the Viking hospitality continued. Our rooms were ready when we arrived, all of the transportation was first class and the transitions were seamless. A concierge was available to us at the hotel and the hotel was very nice, in a good location. Read Less

Had a friend who had taken a river cruise in Germany. Very impressed with Viking and taking another ocean cruise in May 2017. This river cruise was after a 7 day cruise on the Delling. Enjoyed Delling more mostly because of the place visited in southern France. Staff and facilities on both ships were excellent. Staff seemed to anticipate guest needs. The food was superb and chef and staff very friendly and helpful. The cabins were comfortable and bathroom and shower were above average. Enjoyed Normandy the most even though it was a long bus trip. Gave us enough time to see all the sites and do any shopping we wished to do. Paris was so large and could only do a limited number of tours but feel received best value for tours I was on. Also Paris was very crowded. Loved Notre Dame and had the best shopping. The guides on the tours were all very knowledgeable and very friendly. Overall a very wonderful vacation. Once on the ship (Viking Rinda) we were amazed at how quickly things were ready for us to start unpacking and enjoy the rest of the cruise. All of the staff were EXCELLENT and we felt very comfortable right away. The cabin was at water level but, very nice and we knew that long before we got on. (never planned to do anything but sleep there anyway.) We were certainly kept very busy for the entire cruise and took many tours to see as many places as we could manage...Yes we were tired by the end of the day but, that's what we signed up for! The tour guides were very knowledgeable and we really liked the headsets for the tours. The food, the tours, the accommodations, and the service were all first class. We were greeted at the airport by the Viking concierge and it made the first impression a very good one. We opted for the 3 days in Paris before the cruise started, so we were supplied with a driver from the airport to the hotel - an added bonus! The highlights were - The Monet gardens and house; seeing some of the beautiful sights as we cruised the river; Palace of Versailles; going through the locks; the fabulous meals; meeting some new people and becoming friends; the Normandy cemetery was beautiful, yet emotional at the same time. We originally chose this cruise to see the beaches @ Normandy because our fathers landed there. We have been to Paris a number of times, so we enjoyed Paris on our own except for a late night "Paris under the lights" bus tour with a stop at the Eiffel tower..We were pleasantly surprised with the rest of the ports we stopped at. Monet's Gardens were extravagant and the excursions being included with local guides over a headset in our ears made it extremely informative. The beaches at Normandy were outstanding with stops at two beaches and an included tour of the museum on the British beach. The ceremony at the American cemetery was emotionally moving with each of us being given a rose to lay on a grave of one of the brave souls who gave their lives to establish a beachhead for the Allies to advance against the Third Reich. The meals and service on board were impeccable. In my estimation it was more than worth the investment. Crew was very friendly. The concierge went out of her way to help a friend traveling with us to pack and ship an oversize picture with frame he had purchased. Even the meal provided in a restaurant in one of the beach towns was outstanding. I will definitely cruise with Viking a third time. We had done the Christmas Markets on the Romantic Danube before this cruise and liked it very much as well. Viking is launching ships and expanding, but keeping the quality of its products and service at a high level. Other European River Cruise companies may appeal to those with "snobby" attitudes, but for my money, the value is exceptional with Viking. Read Less

France's Finest started in Marseilles and went to Lyon. Then a transfer by TGV (high speed train to Le Peq to catch the Rinda. The first comment that I have is that Le Peq isn't Paris, or even very close. The times that we took the bus in to Paris it took just over an hour each way, because of traffic. Destroys tours that are slated to be four hours. The optional tour for the City Highlights and the Louvre is a waste of time and money. After five hours of 'touring', we saw the inside of Notre Dame and had lunch. Lunch, at a café, was a very dry piece of white meat partially covered in tomato sauce. Could have been from a can. There was also a scoop of very undercooked rice. Two passengers thought for sure it was Minute Rice. The best part of the lunch was that you could get a beer. Ultimately we had less that one and three quarter hours in the Louvre. We really only had time to see the big three (Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo and Winged Victory) and a couple of other things the guide thought were interesting. Again, the tour was a waste of time and money. Do a pre or post extension and do the Louvre on your own. Also, on the option tour of Versailles, with a worker strike warning for the day of the tour, the time was shortened by an hour. They offered to cancel and refund the money and we took that option. The tour did get in but only for three hours. We did the tour during our post extension and spent an entire day there and we could have spent more time in the gardens. All the other packaged tours were very good. The all day Normandy tour was excellent. We would have liked more time there but it took over two hours each way to get there by bus so I understand why times were as they were. The other thing that bothered us some was that there were basically four nights in Le Peq and two nights in Rouen. All four nights in Le Peq we had a very nice view from our veranda of a parking lot, police station, brassiere, and super market. I would also like to add that the dining room staff was excellent. Since we always sat in the same section, our servers figured out what we liked and met those needs. Also it would be nice if there were tables for two or four. Sometimes, you just feel like having a quiet dinner for two rather than having to converse with for or more other people. I don't think I would take this section of the cruise again. I might think about doing a few days in Paris and then stay in the Normandy are for a couple of days to see more sights there. Read Less

First time on Viking, but I have been on many other ocean and river cruises. Viking is pricey, but decided to try them due to included wine, beer and most excursions. Viking delivered in terms of personal service, delicious foods, organization, beautiful ship and great itinerary. Viking did not deliver in terms of included wines. They tasted like water, so we had to buy wines at local stores. This is one of the main reasons why I did not rate the cruise as excellent. For that price, you should get decent wine. The staff was magnificent. The cocktails were excellent. The excursions were great. It would be nice if Viking had some tables for two or four in the main dining room for those of us who do not want to repeat our life stories to strangers every day. Pastries at the coffee bar were great. It would also be nice if Viking had iced tea or other soft drinks available for those who do not drink coffee and hot tea. I would cruise on Viking again. I just hope they upgrade the wine or provide a choice of included wines with meals. Read Less

It has been years since my wife and I had been to Paris and France and we wanted to have the opportunity of seeing, not only Paris, but the French countryside. Except to the weather, it rained every day, over which Viking has no control, we enjoyed the service, the food and the intimacy of such a small number of guests. We got to meet and know many more people than we ever have on the larger ocean cruises. We are both in our seventies and we appreciated all the amenities available for all, such as the umbrellas handed out for all the rainy days we experienced and the refreshments offered when returning to the ship. The food was excellent and we would do another Viking river cruise for the food alone, let alone the terrific scenery of a river cruise that a river cruise provides. The fact that we had the chance to visit the Normandy and Omaha beaches made the trip historically significant as the second World War was not taught as history when we were being educated in the 50's and 60's. At the time of our cruise, Paris and the Seine were experiencing some of the worst flooding in decades. We were apprehensive about what might happen. Viking and its wonderful staff went out of their way to make the experience fantastic! They had to juggle itineraries, arrange for transportation, and deal with Mother Nature all at once, yet it was seamless. The food on board was excellent. While we had plenty of options (dinner, for example, had several nightly specials along with a fixed menu), the selection was easy -- every night I just told the waiter, "Bring me the Chef's recommendations!" I was never disappointed. Breakfast and lunch were also tremendous. The excursions were well executed, with friendly and well-qualified guides everywhere we went. We booked a trip to the Palace at Versailles, at an additional charge, but arrived to find that the staff at the Palace had gone on strike (the Viking staff, ever alert to these things, warned us the night before that it might happen). I called Viking the first business day after we returned to ask about a refund, and the friendly customer service rep advised that the refund had already been completed -- days before I even called. As for the destinations: Viking bills the cruise we took as "Paris and the Heart of Normandy." We loved it so much that we are considering doing the same cruise again, even though Viking offers plenty of other trips. Monet's gardens at Giverny, the beautiful Medieval city of Rouen, and the D-Day landing beaches at Normandy were all fantastic. My wife and I have been on the "Big Boat" cruises, but never again! The River Cruise concept, and especially Viking's execution, is all we'll do from now on. The smaller boat, with a small passenger size (but great staff to passenger ratio) made the River Cruise much more enjoyable. The number of ports gives you plenty to see, and river sailing is nice and smooth. We met many wonderful fellow travelers, and the question always came up: "Is this your first Viking cruise?" For my wife and I, the answer was "Yes." But, for the majority of people, it was, "No, this is my second" or third or fourth or fifth. The number of repeat Viking River Cruise customers says it all -- we are looking forward to our next one! Read Less

It was selected by a Travel agency my brother has booked with many times. We did the pre-trip to Paris then down the Seine to Normandy. All the side excursions were well planned and informative. Our tour guides were well informed and delightful. The rooms were just right for what the trip had planned. The food was excellent and wait staff were superbly trained as well as pleasant to interact with. The ship was easily navigated by a novice traveler. The areas for visiting and relaxing were inviting. My husband who is not a traveler could only sing praises for the trip, the ship's accommodations, and the variety of the menu. I would recommend this trip to all who have a need to see Paris. It was a comprehensive tour of all the must see places in the city. You were able to see many of the sights, but some were only from the bus. I would certainly take another Viking Tour without hesitation. I do need to say that we arrived right after this years flooding so there were some questions on whether we would be able to do some of the tours by ship, but the Seine went down enough to allow the tour to go on as scheduled. The Viking agent actually walked all passengers in our van into the airport to ensure we had no problems navigating the check-in process. We traveled on the Viking Rinda, cruising down the Seine from Paris to Normandy. What a wonderful and carefree way to travel. The Viking experience offers excellent customer service from start to finish. Staff on board the ship go out of their way to engage in conversation and ensure your care and comfort. Cuisine is very good and the chef incorporates local recipes to enhance the ambiance and experience of local flavors. Dining is freestyle which offers the opportunity to make new friends. We had a French Balcony cabin with a wonderful view out the sliding glass door. The bed was very comfortable. There is ample storage and space to store all travel necessities. There is also very good in room entertainment. Wifi is available at no cost, but can be spotty at times, depending on location. We absolutely loved the tours. Viking handles everything and excursions ran smoothly and on time. We elected to add a couple special tours, Palace of Versailles and Paris by Night. The only downside was that the ship was technically not docked in Paris but about a half hour drive away with no view of the city. Plus, there wasn't much cruising because we didn't go very far up the Seine. Our first river cruise with Viking was 15 nights from Amsterdam to Budapest and an add on excursion to Prague; if you are looking for more cruising time, that is the cruise to take! Read Less
